If never judge a book by its cover was a restaurant!!!!!! Def a ma and pa shop and the only non-chain restaurant in the area. You know the food was EXCEPTIONAL when a Yelp Elite forgets to take photos before devouring the whole thing. I got the fish and chips (so fresh, tender, and juicy and probably the best I've ever had?) and my party got the salmon grilled, seafood platter, and chicken strips. All DELICIOUS 10/10. The service was also exceptional. The always asked our preference (if we wanted the clam chowder before our meal, if we wanted the staff to sing to us happy birthday, etc) and made us feel so special. Looking for an omelette in town. Almost didn't come after seeing a 3.9 rating but glad we decided to try them. My husband absolutely loved his seafood omelette and my Denver one was one of the best I've had. I opted for a side salad in place of the hash browns and toast. It was made with good greens (not just iceberg lettuce). It did come with beats which I don't care for, but that's a personal preference. I love their coffee and the service was superb. I was hoping for banana cream (my favorite), but they were out. Ended up with a slice of chocolate (maybe chocolate peanut butter?) and damn. I usually don't even like sweets--most desserts are way too sugary for me--but this one was different. My guy said something like, "If it's too sweet, I'll take it," and we ended up fighting over it lol. It was layered perfectly--light whipped cream, smooth filling, not cloying at all. Just absolutely perfect. I don't even go for pie like that normally, but this one changed everything. It's been months and I'm still thinking about it. I think overall, the price was a little steep considering we were in basically Oregon in the middle of nowhere. But it was worth it, especially that pie. First time I've been back here in over 10 years now. We, a party of 4 on a Sunday afternoon, were sat right away by a smiling server. Although she only had one other active table, it took a little longer than I'd hoped to get our beverages but no big deal. Very quiet service, seemed like it wasn't quite her day. Two errors too mention: 1. I ordered CFS and eggs (add two eggs for four over medium) hash browns (9.5/10) and sourdough toast plus a side of biscuit and gravy. Eggs were closer to over well and never got my toast, gravy was from a can and lukewarm at best and when I asked for an extra plate for my CFS there was a returned sigh...*sigh.* My partners wife ordered the clam chowder as an appetizer, got it WITH her fish and chips. It was warm/lukewarm and had a light ammonia aftertaste. Not pleasant or timed right. I've been in food service for 38+years professionally. I don't like putting anyone down or hurting businesses but I paid $28 for my brunch/breakfast and I expect it to at least be hot and the eggs cooked to order. Over medium is NOT hard to execute. I also never received a refill on my ice tea. I understand that restaurants wind down on Sundays from the week. I know how tight margins are but another cook or prep cook on shift would have helped. The chowder was old and not up to par. No excuse there. I paid $128 total (including two desserts to go) and tipped $22. Now for two breakfasts, 1~ B and G, 4 beverages, 1 bowl of chowder, and a fish and chips (split) it seems to me like my cover of $32/person left me feeling overcharged.
