Beer menu
Brendan S.

My wife and I stopped in here a few weeks back. The beers were awesome and the menu had a lot of variety. We didn't see a handicapped ramp, so I had to carry the baby stroller up the stairs, which wasn't a big deal for me, but unless there's a ramp or elevator I missed (which is possible) it doesn't appear to be wheelchair friendly.

Gastro go-go event

The beer here is okay but not my favorite. I want to like it more because it's a seemingly cool place, and the staff are always friendly, but I'm just not a huge fan of the beer itself. The one that I do like a lot is the Moon Jellies sour, so I'll give that lots of credit. I love going to Goodfire in the summer, especially for the Gastro go-go events where Goodfire and other breweries in and around the same complex are open, it's nice out, you can wander around (even though you can't openly carry drinks from place to place legally in Portland), the food trucks are out back, there is music playing, the picnic tables are out, etc. Unfortunately, if it's not summer, it's just not the same vibe. The interior of Goodfire really isn't set up well, especially for groups. I want to like it so much more than I do. The front room is small and only has a few high-top tables right next to the bathrooms. It's cramped at best. It's awesome that they have a whole open back room, but the lighting there is much more harsh, and there is no music. HUGE downfall. It feels so stale in that room. I think an upgrade would make Goodfire a much more fun place.

Fiona and a Pint of Fiona

In a small little neighborhood tucked away in east Portland called East Bayside is a killer brewery called Goodfire Brewing. If you're a fan of New England style beer, this is your joint/jam/spot/gig/fave/ whatever you wanna call it but you MUST go! I stopped by today because the star of the show, Fiona, the brewery pup is debuting her DIPA beer and lemme tell ya, it doesn't disappoint! It's an easy drinker so beware, at 8.0% it will sneak up on you. I had one and took two 4- paks to go for some enjoyment this weekend. Give Miss Fifi a rub on the head and enjoy a pint, you won't go wrong!

So happy Goodfire opened! So bold for opening with 2 IPAs. Love it! They have a pretty big space- a staff member noted they wanted a place to grow into and I'd say they are going to need it . The beer is really solid and they have space for events for rent. Reasonable prices on drafts and cans annnnd there's parking. I'll be back!

Crystals in sitting room!

Being able to live in a city where there are so many unique craft breweries is a dream, and I actually get to live in it! In the midst of all the breweries, Goodfire Brewing Co continues to stretch Portland's craft brewery scene. Located behind the Lone Pine brewery, Goodfire is a hidden gem. There are no signs in the front of the building to indicate their presence, so once you hit Lone Pine, it's time to make the trek to the back of the building (literally, you have to walk around to the back of the building, which might seem sketchy at first, but it's worth it). Walking into Goodfire, your initial thought is that it looks like every other brewery you have ever been to. Concrete floors, long bar tables, large exposed beer kettles...it's all the same. However, if that is not your cup of tea, Goodfire also have a backroom which is very inviting and fairly quiet when compared to their actual brewery section. I found this to be awesome, as you get the best of both worlds. In the back room, there are some games at the tables and their modern light fixtures add a cool flair to the brewery. As far as their beer, it is decent. I'm not sure if they are producing anything extraordinarily different in the Portland scene, but they provide solid IPA beers. I decided to try the Crystals, which was a Galaxy Double-IPA and it was fruity and hoppy. My husband ordered the Waves, which was subtle and also fruity. I also have a thing for breweries that take the time to produce quality labels for their beer, and I really enjoy Goodfire's labeling, logo, and aesthetic. It's a great representation of their beers and when we went, they had a great deal of cans for sale so that you could take their beer home with you. Overall, Goodfire is a solid brewery with lots of room for seating. I look forward to seeing what else they produce in the future!

Out on a Sunday drive to the Riverside area of town. Wanted to check out an apartment neighborhood…read morefor our son. We turned down the road and boom, three breweries!! Had no idea all three were located here, pleasant surprise. I enjoy Allagash white so we decided to stop in. The campus is a good size with gigantic tanks no doubt filled with liquid gold! Outdoor seating area with fire pits for warmer weather enjoyment. Entrance had a woodsy feel to it with signage that was clear to read. In the courtyard you choose which way to go; right heads into the outside beer garden and left brings you inside the brewery and gift shop. Beer garden for us. Seeing that it was covered by a tent thought for sure it was going to be cold inside , we were pleasantly surprised! Decor was paper chains and tissue paper hearts for Valentine's season. They had a creative station for folks to make their own Valentines. Also in the same area was a game bookshelf filled with board and card games to play. At the bar was a young man smiling as he welcomed us. We read the menu and for something different I chose "Cabin Weekend" the name reminded me of our camp in the Western mountains. We both enjoy whiskey so thought the aged barrels used for this brew would make a tasty treat. Grabbed our beers and then over to the food truck attached to the tent, clever. Bite into Maine is the food truck here today, unsure if different trucks come here or not. We wanted something small and shareable. Mac and cheese it was. We sat down at one of the many empty tables and began to enjoy our beers and food. Cabin weekend was so delicious! It was a strong onto 8.9%! Tasty with the faintest hint of whiskey and a cabin feel for the finish. The Mac and cheese was dense and rich!! The fork could practically stand upon its own! It was good in my opinion however don't think I could have finished the portion in my own. We enjoyed so much we will be back for some to bring away with us to our cabin in the woods.

Several more visits since my last review…read more Some things haven't changed: -- The beers are still great. Swish, Here's to Feeling Good All the Time, Nothing Gold, and Reciprocal are a formidable foursome. At any given time, you can usually get at least two, more often three, sometimes all four. -- You'd be hard pressed (pun intended) to find a better smashburger in Portland, but I'd also put it up against any regularly-offered burger I've had in Portland--smashed or otherwise. I love everything about it, from the high caliber of the beef to the fresh pillowy milk bun to the exhilaratingly strong cure of the bacon to the razor-thin cutting of the vegetables to the execution that gets even a smashburger burger juicy. -- I'm still not crazy about the wings. They have a frozen dinner feel to them. A few things, though, have changed: -- Full service now instead of having to order everything at the bar. That's a plus. -- The place is much more crowded-- including screaming tykes-- on the weekends. Not a plus, but can't fault a place for its own popularity. -- The fries are now the industrial strength coated kind. A big minus and a sad drop off from prior greatness, but better that than from an item off the main cast. -- You can now order beer cans to go from the table rather than having to get in line. A nice convenience. A few things to know: -- It's a surprisingly good option for vegetarians and pescatarians. The veggie burger and the grilled fish sandwich are both much more than solid. -- There's outdoor seating in front of the building and also to the right. -- The bar room to the right of the entrance is adults only, so if those screaming tykes get on your nerves, this is the place to be. -- You can still order beer at the bar if that's your preference over table service. Still a favorite, and the combo of beer, food, and space is tough to beat (Mast Landing and Maine Beer in Freeport are also somewhere in that echelon).

This beer release brought my wife and I for our visit today. As an IPA fan I enjoyed this new version very much for its hop saturated citrusy forward taste that drank quite smooth for the 9.5%. At this point now Bissell is broken into two separate parts. The first will be the space welcoming to families and is more of their restaurant style area. Appeared to be a popular area and does offer reservations. My preferred area is the Bissell Garden as they call it. Those entering need to be of drinking age and have more lounge vibes where you order at the bar. It still offers full kitchen menu so is perfect. Particularly my favorite is snagging bar stools to grab some beers and food. I had to try out the Super Swish while my wife grabbed their red ale named Turnpike. Then food wise we split their kitchen special Classic Poutine. Some of the best classic kept simple poutine I have had. The perfect comfort food for yet another cold weather day in Maine. Have been impressed by all the food from Bissell. Truly the only negative still stands being the fact it's on Thompson's Point and required paid parking (not Bissell Brothers call but still). One of the most popular Maine breweries for a reason especially in the IPA game. Give all their other style of beers a try too though, top notch brewery!

If you were unaware Austin Street found their start with their original location in Industrial Way Portland area alongside lots of breweries in the area. I believe my first visit and taste of their beers was around 9 or 8 years ago. Once this location opened up it became the go-to for visiting Austin Street as it's updated and honestly nicer. I enjoyed their first location but let's be real this space is more unique and larger! Been to this spot many a times including earlier today. They still have an industrial feel to the place but have so many plants all around to brighten the spot up. Inside while beautiful I must say the true highlight is during warm weather with their large garage doors open. It also adds tons of additional seating to enjoy the weather too! Staff is always so friendly and ready to pour your drink with a smile. Beer wise they have a large variety including IPAs, pale ales, lagers, and sours. Including a special release each year made for International Women's.For non-beer drinkers don't fret, you can find wine, ciders, seltzers, cocktails, and plenty of non-alcoholic options. They also offer some snacks and frequently have food trucks/carts serving as well. With a lot of events scheduled too, including today that was a Summer Puppy Pool Party so as you can tell they are dog friendly. One of the many amazing breweries in this area of Portland. Well made beers with enough options for everyone to enjoy a drink even non beer fans. A place that supports many good charities/causes and hosts lots of events.

They nail the IPAs and all variations of them but also can do every other style very well too!
