Foundation brewery is a relaxed , welcoming place. Service was excellent and was patient with us when we asked many questions about their beers. We tried the fetch , mangoes don't cry and la luz . Their happy hour special is a pint and slice of pizza for $10. The pizza was Detroit style, with a crispy , thick crust and sweet sauce. We also tried the cheese curds with spicy mayo sauce. The curds were very good. A great combination of beer and pizza!

amazing pizza, great beer, and lovely staff! stopped here after some Serious Food Research while visiting from Mass. I got a half cheese, half pepperoni pizza and a pint of the Raspberry's My Jam. The crust is divine, perfect crunch and pull. Cheese and sauce is amazingly balanced with the pie. The raspberry sour was delicious!! I would've loved to have another, but I'm a lightweight. Appreciate all your work! I can't wait to come back on my next trip up there.

Inconsistent crust. Pizza 1: Buffalo Chicken Not really my jam (Buffalo sauce can be too much for me) but I was throwing my husband a bone. The crust was DELICIOUS! Cooked perfectly. But as suspected, the buffalo was just too much for me. Pizza 2: Pepperoni Looked delicious but fell flat. The crust wasn't as good as the buffalo pizza (not as crispy or soft dough inside). Lacked sauce flavor but had the good pepperonis. Love this industrial brewery area- so great location. Offers inside and outside eating space. Super nice people working there- we were bantering. I did try their It's My Jam Beer. I do like having a sip of sours (I am not a beer drinker) and it was T-A-S-T-Y! I was saving myself for Definitive next door but I can share I tried 4 at Definitive and guess what? The Jam won the sour battle of Portland 2024 in my book! True score: 3.5

Great brewery! It's nice it's on the same street as a few other breweries. They had a good variety of beers. It was fun to taste a few different ones. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I typically go with a Hazy IPA and it was really good. They also had some really good looking Detroit style pizza. We were full from lunch otherwise we would have definitely ordered some. They do it by the slice on some days as well. They have indoor and outdoor seating along with TVs. We were able to watch some football while we were there. I loved their merch section, lots of great stuff.

Detriot style pizza is amazing! Can't go wrong here. Hazy IPA and spiked lemonade hit the spot! Outside sitting area, merch for sale as well.

    The very berry Torte Spectacular!

First adventure into craft beer drinking with Foundation Brewing and it was okay. The Torte Spectacular was the beer I had. A Milk Sweet Stout which I normally like but this one was just too sweet. Flavors involved are raspberry and cocoa. Not as heavy as I was bracing myself for the body was thin compared to other beers of this style but as I said the beer was just too sweet and the raspberries too dominating. The touch of vanilla attempts to seize a balance but I'm not so sure that it does. Probably the best way for beer drinkers who don't want a sweet, sugary beer with this one is to have it in a taster flight or perhaps schooner size if possible.

    Cheese pizza, amazing!

Fun little place to grab some good beer and amazing pizza. The staff were all super friendly and helpful while we were making our selections.

A solid brewery in an area teeming with breweries. We looked at the tap lists at the breweries nearby and decided Foundation looked good. My favorite beer we had was the Tropical Jam. It was so delicious and fruity, but not super sour. The other beers we tried weren't super exciting, just middle of the road. We also had chips and queso, which was surprisingly delicious. The perfect snack to go with some beer.

Kick ass Detroit style cheesy bread- do not miss out on the food.

Came in for a beer tasting and some Detroit style pizza. The front staff lady was super helpful and gave us some great suggestions. Indoor and outdoor seating and amazing pizza and cheesy bread- I need them to serve this stuff in VA. We liked the stout and some of the lagers. Also got a Rice Krispie and it was magical. This places food shines.

We were pointed in this direction since it's dog friendly & Bissell brothers is NOT. Boo. The beer was so-so. I really enjoyed the Jam Packed Blueberry Pie sour. We were also hungry so we got the clam chowder (GF) & hot dog w/potato salad & mustard side (additional $1) The chowder was great & my husband said the hotdog bun was especially delicious but halfway through he thought it was too rich & did away with the bun. The potato salad was kind of like cold mashed potatoes, and I typically do not like raw onion in potato salad, BLAH, but it tasted like they pickled red onion in this salad & that made it much more tolerable. We liked the atmosphere, picnic tables under a tent, the pizza looked really good so I think we'd come back to try new brews & the other varieties of food.

I went to Foundation Brewery last weekend located on 1 Industrial Way #7 in Portland, ME. I not only came here to try their awesome selection of beer but to try their detroit style pizza. Detroit style pizza is typically made in a rectangular pan and has a thick crispy crust. This pizza lived up to the hype as the crust on this was cooked to perfection. We ended up getting their hot buzz pizza and adding pepperoni. They have quite a number of different pizza options and you can customize to your liking. The hot buzz pizza had mushrooms, roasted garlic, gorgonzola and hot honey. The roasted garlic pieces were amazing! If you are a garlic fan like myself you'd be in heaven with this pizza 9/10. For beer we got a flight and my personal favorite was the raspberry my jam. I'm a sour lover when it comes to beer so that is all personal preference for me! Check out this spot next time you are visiting portland. Industrial way has a ton of great brewery options so don't skip out on foundation! Food: 9/10 Ambiance: 6/10 Affordability: 6/10

Do they have high chairs available for those of us with offspring?

Hi Scott, we don't have high chairs available at the brewery. Some people bring the ones that attach to the tables as we do have tables which allow for that. But this is a great question, and I'm going to order one to have on hand! Thank you for… Read more

It's unique and it's simple -- but the flavors created are something to keep coming back for. In my most recent visit, we had a pretty bad experience leading up to the pizzas actually being served. We had some friends visiting and decided to go to grab pizza after sending a small group back to the mainland on the 6 o'clock boat. Our order must have been placed maybe 5 or 10 minutes after 6... we weren't served our first pizza until after 8 PM. And our second pizza lagged behind that one by nearly 10 minutes. I can understand how, taken out of context, this can be seen as a petty complaint. However, it really was a discouraging experience because we had multiple (at least half a dozen) other groups order well after us and enjoy their entire dining experience all around us. The group ordering behind us enjoyed their pizzas, bottles of wine and chit chatted for nearly a half hour after their indulgences... and still rode off in their golf cart before our pizzas even made it into the oven. The part that really baffled me was that we took the opportunity to speak with the staff about what was causing the delay -- simply asking if our pizza order had been started or not yet and the explanation was "our team has made several mistakes this evening and we don't have a good estimate on how long it'll take for your pizzas to be ready". We got the same explanation after waiting for 45 minutes and again after nearly an hour and a half. It seemed like a pretty inadequate answer when their wood-fired oven was often not full of cooking pizzas and their entire staff was dancing to the music playing on their speakers. In the end... the pizza was good (same quality as expected). But my experience left something to be seriously desired.

My friend and I decided to split a pizza and it was a good sharing size. We got the burrata and it was delicious! The cashier told us it would be about 45 and I think it was a bit less than that but expect a bit of a wait on a busy weekend. The crust is super thin and floppy but good texture and taste! The sauce was flavorful and the burrata was perfect.

I do wish I would have returned sooner and/or may need to come back one more time before they close. Street parking nearby was easy enough to find. Walking in mid day on Saturday it wasn't too busy so after a short wait we were sat down. Which then lead to the biggest negative of our experience which was waiting for being greeted and also orders being taken. Granted our server did apologize and thank us for our patience. We started off with a cocktail I had the California Sour (had a good bourbon kick) and my wife had the Pineapple Rum Punch and enjoyed it. I enjoyed their rotating speciality pizza that was a Chicken Bacon Ranch and it was delicious top notch pizza. My wife got the Fried Chicken Vodka Parm Sandwich and the chicken was cooked to perfection! We also tried their appetizer of Scrappy Fries and it was a perfect app for our table to share and the meat scraps stood and had so much flavor to it.
