Went to Goodland BBQ to get lunch to-go. Ordered a Brisket Sandwich, which was just okay. Also, order was a 3 piece combo with chicken, tri-tip, and pork ribs. -The chicken was very tender but lacked flavor and season even with the BBQ sauce, which isn't all that great. -The tri-tip also lacked flavor. BBQ should not be the only source for trying to add flavor. The meat was cooked medium-well, which makes tri-tip dry. -The most disappointing were the pork ribs. The chef/cook should have never served those ribs in the condition they were in. They were old, hard, burnt black, tough, ugly, and the bones themselves were dry and brittle looking, like they had been laying in the sun. After taking a bite off the rib that looked ok, it took several minutes to chew it before it could be swallowed. Goodland should not do this to customers when packing meals to-go because some people drive out of their way to support the small business, and then they get home to an inedible meal. Not even covering it in BBQ sauce could cover up, nor soften up, this meat. This combo was a waste of money and disappointing. My family and I came in before a UCSB basketball game to try out this place. The place is is/was clean and simple. I actually loved the flooring in there. But we are simple people and we ordered 3 pulled chicken and 1 pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and fries. Everybody loved their meals and the portions were just right for our liking. My only complaint would be was the iced tea was to my personal liking but that's just me. As for complaints some of the reviewers need to get a life. Good lord! I was perusing these reviews while eating my lunch here and I'm astounded at the lack of humanity some of y'all have. The petty, smug, and just flat out rudeness of some people. Anyways...I just wanted to come on here to leave a review because I happened to thoroughly enjoy this spot. First off, the decor. It's homey, simple and unpretentious, the way you would expect a bbq joint to look. I found the place to be very clean including the bathroom. 2nd, the customer service. Friendly, helpful and laid back. 3rd, the price. Now some of you have said the portions are too small and too expensive. HAVE YOU BEEN LIVING UNDER A ROCK? Have you seen how expensive meat is at the grocery store? I'm amazed that my plate wasn't closer to $30! I felt like what I got was a bargain. Lastly, the food. I got a two meat combo with the brisket and the pork ribs. Let's do the bad news first. The potato salad needs some acidity. A little mustard would really take it up a notch. The Texas toast could have used a little more garlic kick. The coleslaw could also use some acidity. Perhaps a little apple cider vinegar. Thats it for the bad but it doesn't really matter because it's all about the meat. It was DELICIOUS! The brisket and ribs had just the right amount of smoke and perfectly seasoned. There was a lot of fat on the brisket but it was completely rendered and delicious. I didn't enjoy the ribs as much but I still picked those bones clean! So disappointed! I really wanted this place to be good, or even better, great. I ordered the 3 meat combo with pork ribs, tri-tip, chicken, and potato salad to split with my friend. First, delivery was super quick, but then that might be part of the problem because everything except the potato salad tasted like it was left out in the open air to dry out. The potato salad was good - not sweet and not too much mayo. Not the tastiest, but it was fine. Pork ribs: so dry and flavorless, and not very meaty. I've made much better pork ribs in 45 minutes in my Instant Pot. (I wanted to order beef ribs too but they were out. Tri-tip: exceedingly dry. Probably the worst I've ever had. Chicken: flavorless and mealy. There was no smoky taste, no evidence of a marinade, rub, or brine. Garlic bread: cold and dry. The garlic butter had a good flavor. In addition the serving size of the tri-tip and ribs was quite small. Beans: more like bean soup! (See photo) The beans had not been cooked low and slow as evidenced by the broken, hard skins. When I emptied the cup of beans into another container only half were beans, the other half broth. I so wanted to like this restaurant! Wowzers! Some of these reviews are awfully harsh for a brand-spankin' new business. I always lean a bit more towards the generous side during opening week. This is the time when a business assesses what works, what improvements can be made, how much supplies to have on hand, staffing, etc. After all, I can't think of a decent BBQ joint in the Santa Barbara/Goleta area. I came in to Goodland BBQ the day after their Grand Opening. I arrived 10 minutes before the opening time of 11 am expecting a line, which did eventually appear and wrap around the building. Upon ordering, the staff was friendly and willing to answer questions about their menu. I ended up going with with the Beef Brisket sandwich since it is my favorite BBQ meat--sorry Tri Tip fans! The meat was super moist and flavorful. I personally enjoyed the BBQ sauce, which could be seen as on the sweeter side and definitely not spicy or having a kick. Although I ordered my sandwich Torta Style (Brioche bun topped with Sriracha coleslaw, fried jalapeño and crunchy onions) it came instead with the classic BBQ Style (Fresh roll with lettuce, tomato, pico de gallo, avocado spread with fried jalapeño and crunchy onion). I still enjoyed it a lot so no complaints! Their French fries were also hot and perfectly crispy. I had a taste of buddy's Tri Tip Sandwich which was decent but definitely couldn't stand up to other places in town like Cold Springs Tavern or Jill's Place. A few recommendations: - Have two separate registers to take orders and move the line along faster. - Provide BBQ sauce and ketchup dispenser at the counter, versus a limited amount in small plastic cups that need to be requested and take up employees time. - Have more trash cans since they were quickly filled up and were a bit hidden. - Sadly, while the chalkboard painted wall is fun, some people had written and drawn unacceptable things. Beware Customers!!! Two comments about this place. It looked like a good place to have some good BBQ. Food: I asked for a chicken sandwich but first they told me they were out. Then they said they had some. The chicken was like the left over parts from the pot. There was dried skin and cartilage pieces. Needless to say, it was not good. Business practices: They charge a 3.5% service charge for credit cards but there was no sign to inform customers. When I asked the person who appeared to be in-charge and maybe the owner, she apologized and said she was told to take down the sign because someone told her it was inappropriate. I told her the employees should notify the customers. While I was eating the underwhelming food, she brought me a receipt letting me know she had refunded my service fee. I saw the credit on my account that night but it was taken back the next day. It feels a bit illegal to be doing any type of transaction to my credit card after I leave the establishment. I'll start by saying I was told it was there Grand Opening yesterday. Upon arrival for lunch there was a sign on the counter that read: No tri tip, No beef ribs, No pork ribs, No pulled pork. That left hot links, brisket and chicken. So I ordered brisket and hot links. After at least 20 minutes of waiting I went to the counter to see what the issue was. There were four other people doing the same thing. It appeared to be chaos. I went back to our table. At around 25 minutes our food came. The brisket was lukewarm and had too much fat on it. I left two slices on the plate (I never leave brisket). The hot links were good. The bread was good. The potato salad was ok. The beans lacked flavor. I came here after work to try out some bbq since there aren't many places to go for good quality bbq. I ordered three brisket sandwiches with bbq sauce that came with fries and a kids hamburger meal which includes fries and a drink. The brisket meat was definitely tasty and tender. The only thing I didn't like was how greasy the sandwich bun was on the bottom. My stomach gets upset whenever I eat greasy/oily foods so after I ate it, I was not feeling well. I had to take the brisket out and eat it by itself. After I left, I had completely forgot that the kids hamburger meal came with a drink, which I never got. It was no problem though since they were busy. I'll most likely be coming back to try the tri tip and pulled pork. Hopefully the sandwich won't be as greasy. read more

Very disappointing..... ordered pulled pork sandwich for myself and kids hotdog meal for my son. Wait for food was pretty long and when it finally arrived it was cold! My sons hotdog looked and felt as if it wasn't even cooked, it was still cold to the touch; literally felt like they just put it on his tray, I would think at a bbq place it would at least be grilled. My pulled pork sandwich looked great on the tray and looks were very deceiving: it was also cold, flavorless, had a few pieces of purple cabbage (definitely can't call Cole slaw) and very dry. The meats were delicious as were the fries and coleslaw. The beans really stood out to me, they tasted homemade and delicious. So much better than the typical bbq restaurant canned tasting beans. Yes we did have to wait a while but that's understandable, they are a new and busy restaurant. After much anticipation, we finally got the opportunity to try Goodland's BBQ. I was excited to eat here, but will have to come back when I am not on a strict diet to try it again. The service was quick, and the person taking our order was very nice and reconfirmed our order to make sure it was correct twice, which we appreciate greatly. I ordered the BBQ chicken and a salad, and my other half ordered the tri-tip with Mac and cheese and a sausage. I had to taste it all, and I will say the sausage was absolutely delicious especially when dipping it in their BBQ Sauce. The rest was ok. The Mac & Cheese seemed overcooked and the cheese could be better, the tri-tip was a bit dry and missing flavor, and my chicken had all the flavor on the skin, but if you don't eat the skin, it just tastes like plain chicken. The price for 2 meals and 1 drink was about $45 which seems very overpriced for the quality of food. I do hope they can figure things out quickly because it would be great to have a wonderful BBQ restaurant in our own backyard! We go to WoodRanch in Camarillo, Ventura, and Woodland Hills a lot and also Best BBQ in Santa Paula and we were hoping this place would be just as good or even better but it's not quite there yet. Not sure if the quality of the ingredients, meats and BBQ Grill can be improved or they are still working out some kinks. My bun looked good but seemed to be warmed over, it was hard at the ends. Ok Fries, they have a house seasoning I guess. Now I'm biased because I like salt. The fries have a sweet seasoning on them, like brown sugar. I am guessing this is more of a rub for meat. Only a guess. I didn't care for them. Also they were hard. Like warmed over. As a Kansas City native, I have generally high expectations of barbecue, but I temper them when I'm visiting joints outside of my hometown. Even with that mindset, this was quite a disappointment. I ordered a half a pound of brisket with sides of macaroni and cheese and chili beans, and nothing about my meal was good. 1/4 of my brisket was fatty, did not have any seasoning and absolutely needed the BBQ sauce to carry the flavor. The BBQ sauce itself was alright, but nothing fondly distinct to remember. The macaroni's texture (think cheese pull) was really impressive, but bland outside of that. I still don't understand why the beans were borderline watery in texture, but out of the three, this had the most flavor. They offered a horchata drink as a daily special, and even that lacked a healthy amount of vanilla and cinnamon.
