It's a lot about timing with most second hand stores if you have a great experience or just an okay time. This location is meh! Dark, really dark. As if it were a romantic restaurant dark and it didn't seem clean, smelt musty. Maybe hiding something. It seemed to be full but a lot of the merchandise was unusable and maybe should have been pulled. So the hunting is for real. The name brand clothing is marked up even the well worn stuff. Why did I even bother going inside this Goodwill? It was dimly lit and dirty. Not all thrift stores are dirty. Goodwill sells overpriced junk. They keep all of the good stuff that's been donated to them and sell it on their website. The days of thrift stores selling 2nd hand goods at thrifty prices is long gone, because it's become trendy to shop at thrift stores. This location is next door to Bookman's. read more

Goodwill is the real-life version of The Price Is Right. Hidden treasures are just within your grasp if you manage to find yourself in the right place at the right time. As a person who takes thrifting seriously, the abundance of second-hand goods here in Phoenix is definitely a welcome relief. It is also uplifting to know that at least a portion of the millions AND MILLIONS! Of people in this metropolitan area choose to donate unused or unwanted items instead of sending them to the landfill. The Great Barrier Reef, the Ozone, & myself, of course, all thank you! This particular Goodwill is extremely well maintained, & from the items that I saw, the location features an eclectic variety of items. Typically, the sorting staff has the final say on what does or doesn't pass the eye test & ultimately ends up on the floor. So whoever the curators are seems to have a keen eye for fashionable items. My experience at this location definitely went above and beyond my expectations. This is due in large part to the manager who was working during my visit on October 10, 2023. Without going too deep into the entire conversation, I asked for an accommodation, appealing to the empathy of the Goodwill staff, which at first was denied by the cashier but then was approved by the manager. I can't begin to express how grateful I am for the act of kindness shown by this particular Goodwill manager. Good things happen to good people, & I guarantee the cosmic forces will reward that individual 10 fold due to the judgment that they more than likely use on a day-to-day basis. My respect, Goodwill, you absolutely nailed it with this person. The right person got promoted for sure, & I wish them nothing but happiness and success going forward. If you're looking to visit this location during your MLB fan experience, I STRONGLY SUGGEST IT!   However, Mesa isn't the most POC-friendly area on earth, so I advise that you use caution when visiting. But with this goodwill, your money is always good here. There may be other locations, but this one will value not only your business but will also treat you in a respectful manner.   As you can see from my other reviews, I have not had the most pleasant experiences lately. So this location was definitely a breath of fresh air!   However! Large store, with spacious shelves for households and long rows of clothing. Households appeared picked over; it was unclear whether this was related to the day of the week, number of pickers in the area, or some other factor. Price points for some households seemed unrealistically high. read more

I was very disappointed to find that the closest Goodwill to my daughter's had closed--until I saw this location which is even closer to where I am staying in town. I stopped in there this evening and found it is an even larger store located where the Gold's Gym used to be, a 30,000 sq. ft. area. They have a pretty big selection spread out, all the usual clothing and housewares plus tons of Halloween costumes, accessories and decorations since it's September. I found the sewing and notions section off on the left wall and bought some yarn for the preemie hats I knit, plus a pretty lavender baby blanket for my new granddaughter and a plastic container to keep craft supplies in. Today was senior day (lucky break) so I got 25% off my purchase, also there isis always one color tag 50% off and once or twice a month they have a 50% off everything day. They don't have garage sale prices because it's a store with rent, employees, electricity, phone and advertising, etc. to pay but the prices still beat what buying new costs. If I don't want to pay the price I just don't buy it. The store looked as clean as can be expected for a thrift shop where customers are constantly messing things up and the two clerks I dealt with we're pleasant and helpful. There is a huge private lot to park in. I'll be back soon with my daughter to look around again. read more

I bought a film camera here which seemed to be in good shape, but I wondered why the price sticker was wrapped around the side of it. When I got it home and pulled the sticker off, I saw that the back couldn't stay closed, which makes the camera useless. The sticker was keeping it shut. It seems to me they knew what they were doing when they put it on. I have gotten a lot of cameras from other stores, but I won't from this one again. read more

Initial Impression: Next to quite a bit of restaurants & easy to find. Looked bigger than what it actually was. Pros: Clean Alot of items on hand. Parking was great Greeted right at the door Cons: Shopped on Friday instead of 50% off on Saturday Alot of homeless people outside asking for a handout Experience: As we walked in there were smokers right by the front enterance. The smell of cigarettes discuss me. We walked in & staff was friendly, they had a lot of items. We had fun. Well priced for being Goodwill. I get in line to return one thing. The gal doing returns calls for Tracy to come and help because the other person hasn't been trained to do so, and there is a person with a very large order in front of me. She calls her twice and she takes at least 10-15 minutes to come over. Then when she does, she stands and talks with another clerk for another 5 minutes instead of offering to help me with my return. I ask the one checking out if she is the one she was calling for returns, to which she responded- no I'm the one who does returns. Finally after talking with the other clerk she calls me over and says ' this is a couple days past the 7 day mark. I can only give you a dollar, as our return policy recently changed. Sorry. What poor customer service. read more

This location had a lot of decent books possibly because it's next to a used bookstore and the rejected books end up being dumped here. That's just speculation though. The building interior could use some upkeep as a fair amount of lights were either not on or not working. Still it's worth a look if you are headed to the bookstore next door. read more

Went here while visiting some relatives that live in the area. I was immediately impressed by the cleanliness and organization of the store. Really enjoyed the assortment of books ranging from .$99 to $2.99. Also browsed the household appliances, furniture, and children's clothing. Eventually settled on 10 brand name T-shirts for $1.99 a piece. Yes the cashier did ask if I wanted to donate my change but seriously with what your saving can you blame them? I happily obliged. I would totally shop there again if I'm in the area. read more

Great location, because it's next to Bookman's. Been years since I've been in there. So anyway, came here on a Sunday and picked up a few things. The tchochkis were sparse, the shoes were ALL OVER the place, some of the staff I couldn't tell the difference between them and actual customers, people (staff) were hanging around talking -loudly, racks were parked in the middle of aisles while the employees chatted. Seemed poorly managed as a whole. Saw a customer in the very back going through packages but I didn't even want to stick around to see what he was in search of. Check out line, yes, just one at that time, was rather long and when another register did open I did not hesitate to jump on that action so I could get out of this place. Young man working the register was polite and efficient and he even honored the student discount for my college student son. That was ALMOST a bargain had this Goodwill marked their items consistently. I had a suede jacket that I could have purchased at any other location for $7.99 -here they marked it to $24.00 for one jacket and $19.99 for another. Ladies jackets at every other Goodwill location is $7.99... And please Goodwill, you make huge profits already and pay your employees minimum wage, stop asking for me (or anyone else) to donate our spare change at the end of each transaction. Many more thrift stores that actually benefit our community around town, including the Salvation Army, and they don't ask for more. read more

I love visiting this Goodwill on Saturday because it's all half-price! Even though it gets pretty busy, the lines move nicely. The only complaint I have about this store is that the clothing selection is always terrible! Most Goodwills I visit, I can find a basket full of awesome clothes with no problem, but not here. I do love the plates, glassware, etc. It's so fun to rummage through! read more

This was my first time in this goodwill and it was a great experience! It was the biggest goodwill I've ever seen and had amazing prices. It was clean and very very organized. All the same sizes were together as well as the colors and types of clothing. The staff was a little low but besides that everything was great and I would definetely go back again sometime! read more

I was there February 28th. Everything was fine until I told the cashier no thank you when she asked if I wanted to contribute money to Goodwill, too, in addition to my purchase. She became very nasty towards me. I told her I am a teacher and that I contribute to the community already that way,besides shopping there.. .both my husband and I work 2 jobs each,We are both Veterans. We put ourselves through college and no one ever gave us anything. What we have we worked for. What a concept! So...not real happy with the snarky employee. Let's see her work more than one job, put herself through college, and serve our country, THEN she can be snarky! read more
