The store is well organized and has a good variety of items. Prices are usually pretty reasonable and the staff is friendly. I take off three stars since they began using commercial scent diffusers mounted high on the walls. This stuff gets absorbed by everything and nearly impossible to remove. Recently bought a Keurig machine. The plastic had absorbed the scent and it's not going away. The clothing is the same. And breathing in this stuff is toxic and hideous, especially if you have asthma or any other breathing disorder. I'll have to thrift elsewhere. read more

Way too expensive. Prices are getting higher and higher. Some new creepy assistant manager came along and raised prices like he owned the store. You do know you got the stuff for free???? You can buy new at regular stores for cheaper. Management team is rude and very unfriendly. Otherwise don't waste your time looking at a pile of junk that cost a lot of money. read more

I have been to this GW many times because it is very close to my home. Actually, I frequent many GW's around the area and find the uniqueness of their inventory fascinating. Also fascinating is the difference in policies between the GW's. Sadly, this GW not only does NOT allow you try on clothing, but when asked "Where are your scrubs?" I was told, "Due to COVID, we are not longer selling scrubs. They are too risky." Really? Each of your neighboring GW's are still selling scrubs and many are allowing clothing to be tried on. For these reasons I will no longer be purchasing clothing at this GW but I will continue to browse their other "stuff". They do have a decent DVD area. read more

Goodwills vary a lot depending on the people donating the product. This one always come through with clothes for my highschool kid who loves thrifting!!! Decent prices too. I can't believe I'm complaining about the pricing at Goodwill and yet here I am. Almost every pair of jeans was priced at $9.99. Anything that was Athleta branded was automatically $9.99. Just call this place the $10 store because everything is $10. The items they were charging $10 each for were heavily used and didn't even really have much life left. They should've definitely been sent to the bins. Inflation is everywhere but this is more corporate greed than inflation. read more

This Goodwill is nicer than my usual one near Forest Park. Employees wear name tags and matching uniforms here, greet you in the store and at the register, and even say to everyone after check-out, "Thank you for supporting the Goodwill mission." There was a janitor with a cart walking around tidying up, even picking up little bits of paper from the floor. The toy section was not ideal, they also have big bins filled with random toys, but the games and children's books are arranged nicely. Most shelves were very well organized, a few were just piles of random stuff. Bathrooms are small and there was a long line. read more

I use to come here a lot before Covid-19 hit. Of course things have changed so much. But it doesn't stop me from donating at all. First off, I can donate outside and keep a great distance with anyone. They also give you a receipt for your tax purposes. I miss being able to go inside. But folks still do, I guess it says a whole lot of the establishment and staff. Jist wonderful people and although I work too much to stop in, I do appreciate how much the staff are always so attentive and promise to make your experience a pleasant one. I have been to many. Brand new Goodwill shows lots of promise! Unbelievably clean and organized! We came to find some furniture I could upcycle but didn't find anything much - at least not this time around. I will definitely be back though because these prices are comparable to the prices at their Naperville store. My daughter always has fun finding crazy shoes and this was a total score! I was in the area and had to kill time but I remembered that I had some items I intended to donate that were still in my trunk. This was the nearest Goodwill to where I was at that time. Donating was a breeze. Their lot is huge since they're part of a strip mall and I walked my bags over. There was already a guy standing outside with a huge bin and tax slips. I also noticed that they have a drive-through drop-off option, as well, which I hadn't seen before at a Goodwill. Nice way to expedite the process. read more

A brand spankin' new Goodwill in my neck of the woods? You bet your ass I was one of the first people there. The store was bright and clean, albeit a little cluttered in the back. The lighting was better in the front, and darker in the back. The store was chock full of goodies for everyone. I found some really great deals for my "home improvement" apartment design, so I was stoked. Like many Goodwill stores, you've got to dig a little to find the gems, but when you find one, it's probably awesome. The cashier was awesome-super friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. Any thrift shop can expect to reflect the retail stores surrounding it, which is why until recently this was my favorite Goodwill. You can tell a lot of the donations that come through this location are from people who like to shop at the Yorktown mall, which as a Forever21 shopper I won't complain about. But as of lately it seems like the quality of what they'll price and put out seems to be going down. The last couple of times I've shopped there I've found more and more clothes that are either smelly or so worn they wouldn't last a cycle through the wash. I was in there yesterday for about an hour and there were at least three intercom calls requesting return assistance. But the worst was thinking I had a good cardigan, but it wasn't until I cut the tag off that I saw the hem tearing off at the top and a hole on the bottom back. This Goodwill really needs to check their stock better. Update: I will give goodwill props on the fact that as long as there's visual damage to the product they'll give you store credit for your item with no hassle. Granted, you still need a receipt and it's probably wise to keep the tag even if you've snipped it. I have also seen an improvement in the quality of their products, but as any thrifter will tell you, you can never be too careful. Always check twice before cutting the tag, and happy shopping read more

I have lived in the area for almost 4 years and within the 4 years I have only purchased a handful of items from this Goodwill location. Although their store is usually clean (minus the bathroom) and organized their prices are outrageous. Sure, there are some customers who try to profit off of the low prices of items sold at thrift stores, however, there are plenty of customers who can't afford retail or brand new items and turn to thrift stores in order to provide for themselves and family. I posted a photo of a prime example of the ridiculous pricing that the manager allows to be put onto the floor. An item had their retail sticker pricing on it and Goodwill only took approx. 17% off. Really? This item is USED. Minus well just go to Pier 1 and buy the item brand new for $1.99 more. I feel that most Goodwill locations, especially this one in Downer's Grove, is out for themselves and profit, even though they are supposedly a "non-profit organization." read more

Always find some great stuff at this store. When I hit a Goodwill, it is normally for music or books and I find some solid stuff at good prices. Whenever I find myself in the area, I stop in to see if they got new product and normally they do! The staff are very helpful as well. read more

This place is not well run. I work in the area and come frequetly. The lines are horrendous yet there is one cashier. I see about 10 employees roaming the store though. I have gone to purchase items listed at $3.99-$5.99 yet clearly marked is a tag that says Family Dollar. This hasn't happened once, I see this on about 10 to 15% of their items. Or better yet I see it from donations from TJ Maxx, Marshalls, etc. The "dollar up" is a scam also as I have always dollared up, feeling the need to support their mission yet this has gone on for 2 years and it needs to stop! Goodwill gains millions of dollars in profit. They need to do this once a year and also they need to promote where all the money is going because I have read more than one article that Goodwill is one of the worst organizations to donate too! read more

Clean and organized. A great place for kids clothes and toys. The staff is helpful and expresses a genuine interest in your experience. I've been to many thrift shops and there's a huge difference between the ones that are run well. This is one of the best. This is a smaller Goodwill, but is my go-to thrift store in this area. Due to the relative affluence of the surrounding areas, this store gets plenty of good stuff. Lots of quality clothes, often from good brands and like new. Furniture also is a good selection, as is the remainder of the hard goods. I've bought a brand new convection oven here for $5 and have left here with multiple bags of merchandise on several occasions, which says a lot about the good stuff you will find. (I am pretty picky, most other places I walk out empty-handed!) Staff is helpful, and is always tidying up and putting own new merchandise. Store is pretty clean as far as thrift stores go. The prices here are not dirt cheap, but not as overpriced like the other major thrift chain located in the area. Definitely worth a visit. read more

I'm used to going to Goodwill in Willowbrook, which is nice, but I feel like this location is way more profitable in finding hidden gems. I always have something I need to try on when I come here, and thankfully the staff isn't too hard to find to get into a fitting room. The fitting rooms were clean, and the floors were also free of dust (which is good because the light pink dress I tried slipped out of my hands and onto the floor). The get some past season/overstock items from Target, but not as much as Salvation army would. I definitely think this is worth the trip, plus its in a big strip mall so you can get some other errands done as well after stopping in! read more

This is definitely a good place to look for deals - saw some DVDs that were worth purchasing and it is a bright and clean place. The people here were very friendly and helpful. My first time at a Goodwill - I was dropping off donations, and I'll definitely be back. Tip: Donation doors are to the right and on the side of the building. As far as resale stores go , you would be hard pressed to find a better one , anywhere in the area . I have been to a lot of resale stores and a lot of goodwill locations in the Chicago area and abroad. There is some very good ones near us , we are lucky , and the Ogden store is tops. Its not just the quality of the merch , its the staff , the store itself , location , the merch, pricing and when all of that lines up -that makes for MUCH happier customers which makes a better, less challenging experience. Lets face it resale shopping is a bit of a gamble, it can be time consuming, but when its done right , it can be fun, addictive and so rewarding. On the other hand in a messy store full of frustrated overworked employees, where the norm is a spirit of contention, where the merch is kind of bunk and overpriced , well that produces a less than favorable experience, all the way around. YES - There is good and bad where ever you look . DG GW has a lot of good to offer . Its clean , well organized , its never over stocked , the prices are fair , there is very little items that are not tagged , and for the most part the employees are great. standouts - the store manager is great , Mike the cashier with his smile and tagline -"i can help" , John the stock guy is always having fun working hard and he is glad to help ANY customer out - where else do you see this kind of spirit ? if you only have time to hit one GW on your outing , plan to hit the DG GW , you could do a LOT worse ... read more

I just purchased a jewelry jar/vase today and after spending $161.99 I didn't find a single item or piece worth more than a penny not even single pair of earrings just individual mostly damage pieces. Zero gold/sterling silver and any vintage or custom items. If this is supposed to be some kind of mission to help other people what's the common sense for the customer to waste and blow money on useless and worthless junk. We have to work hard to earn our money we don't have it for free .Why are you taking advantage of people and keep telling the general public how wonderful you are ? Selling glass jar filled with junk and marked with pink tag for 149.99 - isn't it shameful ? Specially this location has the best donations . If there's so much good and valuable stuff donated by other people where is it ? What happened to the honesty ? I'm not even interested to go back and ask for a refund/return - karma will do the job. Come to THIS goodwill for clean, well organized, fairly priced resale shopping- with a smile. The employees are happy and helpful , the store is well organized. The pricing is fair to great - i have found some amazing good deals at this location. I do a lot of goodwill shopping, its fun for me when i come to CERTAIN GW stores and this DG location is top of our list. The quality of the merchandise is above average, but i attribute this stores sucess because the management is very good, freindly and helpful. i have learned a few of the workers / cashiers names Mike is allways freindly and he has a great sense of humor as well, a gem of a human being - he CAN help, and i have seen John go out of his way to help people with unusual requests despite he is allways hustling. i can allways count on the fact i will leave the Downers Grove Goodwill location with a nice smile , which is not allways the case when visiting these places ... willowbrook and naperville i am looking your way... The folks who run GW should give everyone who works at the DG GW store HUGE raises in sallery , after they get rid of the problem area stores that have festered for long enough IMO. For me its simple, how can you tell a decent resale store? Check the harware section or the electronics aisle. Other areas such as toys , kitchen accessorys are equally telling and they do a great job at the DG GW of keeping these typical "eye roll areas" well stocked yet organized allways with reasonable pricing. When its messy, over-stocked or even jammed full of way too much broken junk spilling out to the floor and over priced ... these issues pile up, cutomers get grumpy and disrespectful, as it all just gets worse. Let me try to focus on the good - Downers Grove Goodwill is a very busy but well maintained resale store. It should be a model for their other operations. Overpriced furniture. Smaller than other Goodwills in the area. And may I please just add the following advice to all Goodwill stores: for the love of everything good and holy figure out how to better display art. Half the time the frames are SO jammed into the tiniest metal bin in the store that I just walk away. The glass is broken because you just keep shoving more in there. Secondly, men, I know your girl/guy is taking FOREVER and you're bored. Go sit in your car, not on the (over priced) sofas and chairs that are out for sale. I've never come across a sofa worth actually buying, but I'm always hopeful..and you're hiding the stains and pissing me off by blocking the aisle with your lazy man-spread legs. I'll take out your knee with my cart like a passive aggressive flight attendant. IDGAF. Lastly, to the employees that insist on squeezing their self-important ass down an aisle -only to make every single customer with a cart maneuver out of the way- to put a .99 cent plastic vase back where it belongs- HEY, go take a f-ing break alright? Go tell that asshole to get off the couch I won't ever buy and dont even like. Come back when its not so packed in that area. This is one of my favorite Goodwill stores (the other is Wilowbrook) great finds, some nice musical instruments. The star of the show is the cleaning guy, Robert. Always helpful and he has a lifetime supply of jokes that are so stale that they're fresh. He works the room like a Vegas lounge lizard with an undertone of uneasiness that makes it seem like his loan shark has put out a mark on him. read more

goodwill sucks. unless you're looking for clothes or cheap appliances, it's complete garbage. they run an ebay operation, thus everything decent gets filtered through that. you'll never find a book worth buying here, they barcode scan them before they hit stores and put expensive copies on ebay. i dislike goodwill. when you see barcode systems at a thrift store, that should be your first red flag that you're already paying a premium on anything for that service to be in place. avoid unless you're shopping for clothes. read more
