Oh...I dislike having to write this, but I have too. St.Vincent was the place I enjoyed going to just to escape the world and find some peace and quiet while I hunted and pecked to find deals...not for resale, but for myself. I am not slamming the top manager. He is only trying to make money for the program St. Vincent has to help people in need. As a past reselller, estate sale conductor, a once partner to an estate sale company, I can see things of value...not clothing, I can't stand that. But collectibles. I've noticed new patterns. 1. Prices are up to at least 1/2 the cost of an ebay asking price. 2. Broken collectibles still priced high as if undamaged. 3. Collectible pieces put behind the check out counter holding high prices. 4. A new sneaky practice I only saw at a Goodwill I was a manager at and discountinued, the practice of burying large items of collectible furniture, or marking it sold. To back up this claim, I have seen flippers (you get to recognize them after you see them a slew of times) ask for the manager...ugg...and he comes out and I hear, "Hey...what can you do on the price for this?" The worst piss me off time was when a man walked into the work area the public is not allowed to go in and he came out with the manager. He pointed to a folding MCM dining table, I knew what it was, and the possiblity of it's worth, and it was sold for 10 bucks. Yeah....a cherry/walnut folding dining table for 10 bucks. I've seen Heywood Wakefield dining sets behind chairs (we are talking now in the thousands). 1930s metal cabinets or display cases which bring in a pretty good 200-300 bucks return...sold for 15 dollars. That gets my goat more than anything. Goodwill stopped the practice of that. They do it for themselves now. The people who donate items out of generosity or need, may write things off their taxes. To me, this is against the policy of helping people in need. Yeah, people can say...if you want a deal get there before the flippers...I get it. Today was the 'straw that broke the camels back'. I was going to pick up my meds. I stopped at the store for snits and giggles. I saw two items...no price tag. The lady in front said she would get the manager. Now, she is new I think and have tried to talk with her before. Her attitude is worse than a person with hallotosis, and b.o. at the same time. Her attitude. She placed a price on them which if they were at regular price I would walk. But today was half off day. Score. Yes, I bought them. One for me and one for my daughter. Then I saw a wall coat rack bar. It was 6 feet long made of hard wood. Did i want to buy it for my wall and coats? NO. My bed broke last night and I had to repair the frame. So,I thought, hey, I could buy the rack and support the mission, and save money because I am a person in financial need. It was not priced. The lady who helped me the first time said, it was not marked I couldn't buy it. Then she called the 'manager' I was told it belonged to another piece of furniture. I said, no...it was a wall coat rack. She insisted it was part of another piece of furniture. I remained polite, and respectful. I pulled up a photo of a similar product to 'teach' someone it was not what they thought. It didn't matter. Now the story was, "it is not priced and had to go through the process." exact quote. I looked at her. "Really? You priced these two thing." She just reiterated her excuse. I had felt a feeling I hadn't before. On top of the sneakiness, high prices, and rudeness by this one person, I realized, I can't shop here anymore. I stopped looking for that cool handmade mug by an artesian from Europe. I stopped looking for the depression glass juicer. I stopped looking for Theodore Haviland China, Waterford Crystal, Limoges, Belleck..and more. This store has become a mutant offshoot of Goodwill and Salvation Army. Now, for clothing fine, and that is great for people who wear clothes. I do...lol...but for everything else...it just seems it is not about helping people anymore, but helping those who don't need it (flippers...hey if a person wants to flip, let them register and donate 25% of the profit to St. Vincent) and not helping those who do need help. Not everyone needs to walk in and fill out a form who is in need. Most of us, walk in and look for something to save a few or a bunch of bucks. Oh well...the last of thrift stores for escaping reality is over for me at St. Vincent, which a flipper may enjoy because I might pick up an American Brilliant Cut Glass with a first generation Copley marking which could bring in over $600! I know because I sold a second generation one ten years ago for $250. No more. And to top all this off, is hearing an employee talk about the flippers who come in. Okay fine. worked there as a voulenteer for about a month liked it but i came in one day I was told that they do not need a voulenteer because of insurance purposes, I have noticed that the employees were saving things for themselves and do not put items on the floor but in a cart to check out. Janelle is ok but needs more manners. other employees need not to be rude. when I helped customers with items that don not have a price on an item the employee said they can not sell it it has to go back into production to get a price . when the store closes thats when items are being brought out for the employees. Janelle fills up her car. That store in addison should get different employees that are more honest I will tell other people about what happens at the store about the theft of the employees. There are days that I would give this thrift store a five-star rating and there are days such as yesterday. If possible I would have given them no Stars. I spend over $100 at this thrift store on a regular basis. As a regular customer that spends plenty of money there and plan to do so in the future, the manager Danielle, was extremely rude to me when all I was doing was checking clothing for stains and damage. I set these aside to give to them so they were not sold to others that didn't notice the damage because nothing is returnable. Most visits I am welcomed with smiles, pleasant communications and a feeling of appreciation and satisfaction after leaving. I was given attitude today by Danielle even after telling her I had separated the damaged materials and she told me to do it in the aisles and if I don't want to purchase it , to place damaged goods back on the rack for someone else 2 weeks their money on. When I decided not to purchase some items I was going to put the items on the dressing room return rack so I did not put them back in the incorrect place. For this I was pretty much yelled at. For a religious thrift store I was not treated with the actions of a religious person. I was so offended that I left my cart and any other items that I was going to return to where they belonged wherever and walked out. This is not the person I am but I refuse to be disrespected by anyone let alone from the place that I donate to and spend plenty of money at. I understand people have bad days but even on my bad days I would prefer being kind and making others happy because that improves my life and emotional well-being. I am a firm believer in recycling and selling or giving away used items that are in good condition. This was a thrift store that was helping me make quality clothes, that requires much attention to make Brand name items that are in condition to affordable to those that cannot afford brand name clothes. This not only helps those that cannot afford the clothes they require in excessive amount of money that in this economy most people cannot afford. This is along with keeping more items out of the dump. I find it frustrating when people throw away items that have nothing wrong with them and can benefit others including plastic children's toys. I will grab them, clean them up and give them away for free just to keep them out of the dump and island of plastic in the ocean. Thrift stores are also a necessity for me because I am disabled and cannot afford to purchase regular priced clothing. In the last year and a half I went from a size 14 to a size 8 to 10 requiring me to purchase multiple new wardrobes, which without thrift stores like this which I want to support because profits go towards a good a good cause. Before visiting this thrift store ever again, I feel the need to call and check if Danielle is working because I want nothing to do with that place while she is in it. I cannot believe how much I was disrespected by the manager after trying to be very respectful. This disrespect included multiple passive aggressive nasty comments which is something you wouldn't respect from a place like this. They became so extreme I just left from being so utterly disrespected. I hope the manager, Danielle, steps up and drops the attitude that should not be allowed in a place like this or anywhere. Other than her, I really enjoy shopping there and the other employees and there their attitudes. This is a main reason why I will continue to shop here, after being treated horribly and ridiculously out of line manager is not there. Pretty much the staff is a mixed bag of super friendly, helpful workers and super disrespectfuland unprofessional and mean employees. The rudest one I have come into contact with is the manager. Don't ever shop at or donate to this company! If you are looking for a new job and are considering applying here, save yourself from the emotional distress and aggravation and look elsewhere. Their leadership is rotten to it's core, they are poorly managed, they treat the majority of their employees like crap, some of their managers are stealing the cream of the crop intended to be sold to customers at discounted prices to help the poor only for those managers to keep for themselves and to resell for a profit, and they have broken several laws in running the business especially laws prohibiting Workplace Harassment as well as labor laws protecting an employee's right to a 30 minute lunch. To start off, another reviewer wrote on here about one of their manager's named Janelle a while back taking the items, that were intended to help the poor, in the back to keep for herself. At one point long ago I used to think that review was just a frivolous complaint but now after what I have seen and witnessed and from knowing people who have worked on the inside and witnessed Janelle's behavior I believe every word of it now but it's gets even better. Janelle has a pattern of harassing behavior toward several employees on many occasions including the berating of an elderly woman and 2 employees who have a disability as well as others. The harassing behavior has been escalating in the last couple of months but has caused a lot of emotional distress to people I am close with who work there. The harassing behavior was reported to Human Resources about a week or so ago but low and behold, a few days after the harassment was reported, the Human Resources manager no longer works there. How convenient! The timing of this just seems too suspicious like this was an act to cover up the harassment complaint that this person was in charge of investigating and should have escalated to their Store Manager, Gerardo. 1 week later a Whistleblower, who is supposed to be protected, is let go by Gerardo which is an illegal act of Retaliation. Gerardo had to know about the harassment complaint when he fired the Human Resources Manager because it was shortly after that complaint filed with Human Resources when the Human Resources manager was let go. He lied and said the firing of the Whistleblower had to do with not showing up to work but the reason she didn't show up for work was due to the toxic work environment Janelle created. State of Illinois and Federal laws prohibit Harassment in the workplace and there are legal penalties for all employers that fail to take a reported allegation of harassment seriously as well as for Retaliation for filing a complaint of workplace harassment with company management in good faith. State of Illinois law also mandates that all employers in the State provide annual anti-harassment training for all employees at least once a year but this never happened at least for one of the employees I know who worked there. I can go on and on about other laws they have broken. They have used short staffing as an excuse not to provide employees a 30 minute lunch when someone works a 10 hour shift because no one is around to relieve the cashier at the register. Another example that they don't care about the Safety, Health and Wellbeing of their employees and they just use people and pay them peanuts to treat them like crap. Note to Gerardo if you are reading this: If you and Janelle worked at my company, a well known big Fortune 500 company, they would not tolerate Janelle's behavior nor your choice to ignore the Harassment complaint and sweep it under the rug and protect her. Both you and Janelle would be gone that very day the allegation of harassment was escalated above you to upper management. The fact you have chosen to be dismissive by not taking this matter seriously shows how unprofessional and how bad of a manager you really are but if you think you can get away with this, you are very mistaken because Karma can be a bitch! Maybe the board at St. Vincent will see things differently than you when St. Vincent is held accountable to pay the fines for the many violations of the law that took place after the State does its investigation and finds the complaints of those violations of the law to be credible. read more

I've been coming here for years and have never had a problem other than Janelle who is always rude and I always see her carry things from the back room straight to the register where she holds the stuff she wants and probably doesn't even pay for. My point is I don't think it's right for the workers to keep DONATED items that the store is suppose to sell. I wasn't aware this was a third hand store but I always see her doing this. Today was by far the worst experience because the item I wanted to buy Janelle said that wasn't the right price tag (in a very rude manner). Then I asked her "well what do you mean". Then she says "someone changed the price". She told the other lady to go have them write a different price. So I waited and they come back with a price of $15.99. For a USED, DONATED item. At that point she wasn't even talking directly to me anymore and just put it behind the counter without even asking if I still wanted it which is why I felt wrongly accused. They should really make sure they price items right before letting a customer find it and want to buy it but then raise the price on them and basically accuse them and say "someone changed the price". Which is ridiculous. I'll post the pictures I took to show proof they have items they want stored in their lunch room and behind the register which is down right wrong. Ive heard Janelle tell coworkers "this is mine" while she's putting the items behind the register. I've even seen Janelle and her husband/boyfriend (a bald guy) pull up their car and put stuff in their trunk when the store is closed. Someone like her should not be working there she has horrible customer service and doesn't care about the rights of the customers or people who donate the items because it's sad the people who donate items are thinking they're items are going on the floor for low income families but a lot of it gets taken from the workers. St. Vincente De Paul Society Thrift store is located off of Lake Street in Addison. In stopping by I walked in only to see two check out counters and a line built up. Normally this wouldn't be out of the ordinary, except for the fact that there was no cashier visible at either counter. They were lining up, waiting for a cashier to notice them to check out. That's kind of unusual. Beyond that this Thrift store is reasonably unremarkable they have a lot of clothes, but other things seemed to be in shorter supply here than most thrifts. I took a look through their electronics section only to come out disappointed. For a thrift it's messy, keep in mind your average goodwill, Salvation Army and Savers aren't exactly the cleanest places in the world, but this was just a giant mess. I'd say it's probably a waste of time to visit unless you're looking for clothes. read more

Thrifting on a Saturday is big business. It means lots of people including tons of children who don't want to be there, being swift in your decision making so you don't miss out on something, a hard time parking and my favorite part - things keep hitting the sales floor. This thrift store kinda blew me away. I walked into what I thought was a small storefront with a few jewelry cases, some purses, a 'menu board' with the day's sales listed and an aisle of housewares. As I walked along, I found a great buy within two minutes. Score! I kept on walking only to realize that this store makes an L shaped turn and goes on for a while. Book, more jewelry, tons of clothes, luggage, a bunch of furniture, electronics, more purses and the list goes on and on. I didn't even try to look at the clothes as that's not usually my go-to at a thrift store, but I did notice a lot of clothes that were brand new with tags as I walked by. The furniture sale was 50% off the peach colored tags. I found another bargain. I was thrilled! I have no doubt that I'll be back sooner rather than later. It's a thrift store so you gotta be in the mood to scour and dig. There is no real organization of most of everything is just thrown on a rack or on the floor. No biggie. I can pick stuff up off the floor and I know how to wash clothes and drop things at the dry cleaner. My target is designer vintage clothing so I always go in with those qualification in mind. At this point in the game I rarely shop for myself. Only business, never pleasure. Sounds kinda lame but you should see my closet.... Average prices, leaning a little high on the things I look for but everybody needs to make a profit and I still do on their higher prices. Cutting into my profit margin is never good but everyone needs to make a dollar. It's a thrift store (I say it again as some people think that it should be organized like a department store) so you will have to deal with smells, stains and missing buttons or other general flaws in items. No need to point it out, captain obvious, this is other peoples' junk. Stop acting like you are entitled to something for nothing. Best. Resale. Ever. I'm cheap and weird, so resale shops are a must. You can't find unique t-shirts, tacky prom dresses, and vintage tuxedos for decent prices at used-clothing stores in the city, and definitely not at first-run retail joints. This cavernous store has a great selection of furniture, clothing, toys, games, appliances, books, CDs, movies--just about everything. I used to work and live just a few minutes away, so I'd be there every other week. Now, I'm there less, but whenever I go, I ALWAYS score decent stuff. My favorite purchases: 1. S'mores maker, $3: Put a can of Sterno in the little stovelike thing and you can make yummy treats in your living room. It has a lazy susan with places to put your makings, and six forks to spear/cook your marshmallows. 2. Vinyl: Records are usually six for a buck, and occasionally cheaper. I've bought dozens of records--mostly for looks (I've wallpapered my living room with them), but also scored some classics I listen to on my turntable (Liza With a Z, anyone?) 3. Vintage tuxedos: I have three, each purchased for $10--if I were to sell on eBay, they'd be worth as much as $150 apiece. The space is old (the strip mall has been here for 20+years) and inside the shop does show it's age, but it that shouldn't deter anyone from checking out what St. Vincent's resale shop has to offer. The store is kept organized and the folks working there are helpful. This is the first place I always visit if I need a costume of sorts. Fisherman for Halloween (shut up, it was a Trivia team thing "Fishing for Answers") and most recently an ugly Holiday sweater for a Yelp shindig. I was successful each time. All their items, though used, are well kept and nice quality. This really isn't a "vintage" shop but there a lot of everyday clothing and a nice selection of winter coats. Other times I've found some great items like an old Member's Only jacket and some nice Eddie Bauer spring jackets here as well. They also have small household appliances--I almost bought a breadmaker for $20 that was pretty much brand new and still had the manufacturer's stickers attached. Lots of coffeemakers, irons, telephones, crock pots, kitchenware, glassware, etc. The children's clothing section is much smaller than the adults clothing section, but there are a lot of toys and books that would appeal to kids. If you're not looking for brand new and/or are interested in reusing/recycling, you just might find something to your liking here. read more

DO NOT DONATE TO THIS CHARITY! I have donated thousand of dollars over the years & did not realize how they operated. I left my donations for pick up & never realized how badly this operation is run. Today, I donated two nice couches. When they pulled up, driver almost hit my car & then rejected the donation. Said I need to professionally clean the couches before he would take them. We already cleaned them nicely. GET THIS .... When they pulled up in the truck, they threw several other donations & I heard breaking from these other pickups. How much money is wasted? I followed up with a phone call & got no feedback from their office. Give both your donations & money to people who treat you & your donation with respect. read more

I was looking for a plain black sweater and some furniture pieces on my thrift shop adventures today. I was not impressed with the layout here in the clothes section. Nothing was marked with sizes so you could go from a size 6 pant next to a size 24. There's at least ten racks of clothes. I really don't have the patience to go through every piece of clothing to find my size while fighting off 6 other women doing the same thing. Yes I'm fussy that way. The housewares section wasn't too bad. If you're looking for some cheap glassware this would be a good stop. The furniture section was hit and miss. Yes I know they're donations but the pieces I saw needed a lot of work. I hate to knock a place that gives back to the community but there's other resale places with better selection (and organization) of goods. read more

One of my favorites when I've got some time to kill... I really like this store, as I am a clothes shopper and they have a huge selection. It's divided by type (long sleeve, short sleeve, pants, etc) and by color (all denim together, all blue shirts together, etc.) but NOT BY SIZE. This is important because if you are in a hurry you cannot walk right up to large long sleeve shirts and start looking. But the bright side is that the selection is large, as when I shopped for jeans I had to look through them all, but did find over 20 pair to try on. From what I have glanced at, their house wares and furniture section are fairly large as well. Okay, so here's the best part. Every day you walk in something is on SALE. They have a board hanging on the wall (with three categories-full price, half price, and $0.99) that tells you what color tags are what price that day. For example, blue and yellow tags may be full-price that day, orange may be half price and green tagged items may be 99 cents. So on the worst day, two colors are on sale and sometimes (more often than you'd think) you'll walk in to find everything half price....LOVE IT! If I could just change one thing about this store, I'd have them better sort their clothes, as I often find men's clothes in the women's and vice versa. The problem they have is that they have community service workers re-racking clothes and a lot of them cannot tell the difference between men's and women's clothes....yeah, crazy I know but what are you going to do. read more

This is definitely a thrift store so any time you go into a store like this, you've got to be ready to dig. I went, checked the board for the "tag color of the day" because I'm unemployed and needed a cheap but nice button down shirt for an interview. They do put some of the clearance items in one spot so after sifting through the regular racks, I found the clearance rack. Got an Izod blue button down for $0.99! Exactly what I needed. It's not the cleanest store, but it is a thrift store so what do you expect. Will definitely go back. The cashier was super pleasant as well. All in all, a good experience. read more

This Thrift store, THIS THRIFT STORE , oh my goodness I cannot emphasize enough what a freaking gold mine this place is. First let me say that I've been thrifting since high school in both Los Angeles and Chicago and now the 'burbs (I'm in my 30's) and let me tell you the average thrift store takes A LOT of patience to go through as it is usually a semi organized pile of mess you sift through ONE by ONE until you find that one awesome thing! Anyhoo... That is not really something you would have to suffer through here. Clothes are organized by size, style of shirt (blazer,short sleeved, long sleeved,sweater) and sometimes even by color. So if you're in the mood for say , a short sleeved purple shirt for a girl, you know where to go. They have a huge womens/jrs sections and a few rows of little girls,little boys and then men. Their shoes are neatly organized on shelves and on a few tables and their purses are again the walls in back,where they also have a racks for wallets. My only beef is the jeans section which is a few rows of semi organized jeans but that only takes about 10 min to go through which is nothing with thrifting. They also have a huge area of stuff for the house when you walk in from Lake St side: pots and pans, tea sets, waffle irons. And if you walk in from the side facing Dollar Tree, you'll have the furniture section and the book/cd section. They move sections around sometimes but usually the clothes are the most consistent in how theyre placed and organized. (they also have dressing rooms fyi) I bout a 42 inch Sony TV here for $65 and 4 shelf (real wood) TV stand for $35. Sometimes their household items and electronics go on sale. (as does everything else, including their color coded tags ,more on that in a bit). I also bought two tea sets here for $6 and a GAP pea coat for $8. Their clothing items are coded, red , gray,green,yellow,blue and orange. And every day some of the colors go on sale: 50% or .89 cents. So I've walked away with shirts from New York and Co., Ann Taylor, Liz Clairborn, GAP, The Limited, and more spending no more then $15 for a few bags of said items. Needless to say, living on my own and not being super rich, I was able to stock my wardrobe here for the office on way waaaaay less then what people pay at the mall. Also during certain holidays theyll have the entire store on sale. And they also have senior days. It's good just to frequent the store and see what sales are going on. This place obviously has amazing donations so I would take advantage! (they also accept cash/debit/and credit cards.) Edited 6/5 to add a few helpful notes: -If you go to the thrift store after a holiday (Fathers Day, Memorial Day, Easter, etc) expect the "interesting items" to be limited. They usually have major discounts holiday weekends so they're usually wiped out until the fresh donations come in. So if you're looking for cool stuff wait a week or so for their inventory to replenish. -If you're a record junkie of music (disco, classic rock, cheesy Christmas music, big band swing music) they have a ton of records by the back cash registers facing Dollar Tree. -There is a minimum for using debit/credit which I believe is $3 or $5 -Sometimes they randomly close early, but in the almost four years I've been living in Addison, I only see it a few times, usually the eve of a major holiday, or if the weather is real bad. I have lived 10 minutes from this place for many many years and never stopped in. I'm a thrifting aficionado, so I don't know what was taking me so damn long to go in. This store has 2 entrances, one on the backside of the store (which you can see Village Discount within walking distance) and one on the frontside of the store, off of Lake Street. The first time I went in, I went in on the front entrance (the smaller entrance) and had absolutely no idea it went back so far. The "front entrance" side is very small and houses all of the household chatchkies while the "backside" entrance is where all the furniture and clothing is. The place is pretty neat and never messy and the prices are comprable to what you'd find at Village Discount. They have "tag specials" frequently for % off of items of certain tag colors on certain days. There is a dry erase board at the back entrance so just check it when you go in. The clothing aisles are very very tight (barely a shopping cart width wide) and not particularly long so if there is someone else in an aisle looking through the rack, you are much better off going through another aisle until they are done in that one. They have a decent selection of clothes and shoes; you'll find a LOT of crap and low end used clothing and on occasion you might find a nicer vintage find (but its highly unlikely). There is no dressing room here however, they DO allow exchanges if you have your receipt. So if you get something home and it doesn't fit, bring it back within 2 days (it could be longer, but I'm not sure) and you can get a store credit for something different. There is a locked display case which usually has a variety of items that the store deems more "valuable". One of the last times I was there there was quite a few designer (or knock off) purses. I spotted a "Prada" one and it was priced $50. It looked decent and I was worried if I didn't buy it then and there when I came back it would be gone so I bought it. I really learned my lesson. When I got home and did my research, it was definately a fake. It is still a nice purse I can use but ultimately, I could have spent $50 on a new purse at TJMaxx. So word to the wise, if you are going to buy a purse here that looks like a designer one (Dooney, Coach, Prada, Louis), know enough about how to spot a fake before you buy it. Because chances are, it WILL be a fake. There have been tales of people finding authentic designer handbags at thrift stores, but they are few and far between. Just make sure you do your homework so you don't get hosed. I contemplated between returning it and getting a $50 credit or just keeping it and considering it a $50 donation to a good cause. I chose the latter. I still haven't used that purse though. I don't want to be perceived as someone who knowingly buys counterfeit merchandise. The neighborhood that both this store and the Village Discount behind it is in is a rather Hispanic/lower income neighborhood. I'm not saying this is a good thing or a bad thing, but typically the people shopping here are lower income/undocumented types looking to find $2 shirts and pants to clothe themselves and their family, not hipsters or vintage shop owners looking for 1930's vintage wool pencil skirts or silk tie neck blouses. So, if you are the later, you shouldn't have much competition scoring some nicer vintage items should they arrive here (unlike thrift stores in many of the neighborhoods in the city which tends to get picked over very fast). read more

This is a great place to check if you're looking to nab any furniture for dirt cheap - their used furniture selection is expansive and for the longest time has been 50% off. We come here if we're looking for a random piece of furniture (e.g. nightstand, bookshelf, even a small dresser) but don't want to pay top dollar for something new. I also recently found a new set four of white mugs from Crate & Barrel, and some gorgeous wrought iron-style candle holders for my bedroom. Total cost? $7.50. read more

Had minimal time in here today, but I'm going back tomorrow. It's a pretty big store. The housewear section is awesome and they have alot of it. I had only picked up a shopping basket, not expecting to find much and I filled it within ten minutes. They had a lot of sales today. Not sure if they do that all the time but everything seemed to be discounted in some way. Housewear and furniture, and also shoes and furniture were 50% off. I didn't get to look at the clothing and furniture, but I definitely will when I head back tomorrow. The woman at the register was really nice and polite. It was pretty clean and organized for a thrift store, and the hours are good. Great frame selection and you could find a lot of wall art for your home. It's just ok. I have actually donated a buttload of stuff here. Truckloads in fact over the years. I've only purchased a small handful of items tho. Not a great selection of kids stuff and to be honest from an expert thrifter this place is pricey! It's not like I'm cheaper than cheap because I certainly have quality taste and high standards in thrifting but I have had greater success elsewhere. But it is a thrift store and hit or miss just like any of them. I will check it out again sometime. read more

I enjoyed this place however they open super late and lock the doors super early. My husband and I were shopping here they close at 5 on Sunday and they started turning off the lights and locking doors at 4:30!! And refused to turn the lights back on. Goodwill is much better read more

I've shopped at the St. Vincent DePaul thrift store in Addison many times over the years and feel they are just as good as the rest. Prices are reasonable and they have good sales. Not sure what happened with the person who said there was no cashier. I've never had this problem. read more

If you want a good, honest home to donate your gently used clothing, furniture, misc. household items, this place is one of the best. Similar to the Lombard Goodwill, you donate stuff on Sunday, and by Monday, you'll see your items on the shelves for sale. No worries about the employees snagging your donations as their finds. I don't think that happens here (or at Goodwill). Shopping at St Vincent DePaul Addison is a virtual cornucopia of brand names and quality merchandise for dirt cheap! It's usual to find a Ralph Lauren polo for 4 bucks, a 100% wool Ann Taylor coat for 10 bucks, a new Vera Bradley small tote for 5 bucks. Not unusual to find all leather pumps and flats by Bally, Coach, Ivanka Trump, Franco Sarto. As the poster below me attests, this place is a gold mine. TRUE! A friend found a ladies Burberry trench in great condition several months ago for $24 and a beautiful Kooba leather purse for 12 bucks last month. read more

What a great place to shop! You'll find everything from Stuffed animals and baskets to electronics, furniture and occaisionally larger appliances. The store is always clean and neat although the aisles are a little tight. Sales daily - vary from 50% off clothing to up to 50% off furniture. I'm so happy to see the religious statuary is back in the store. The management is exceptional always smiling employees, and a plethora or interesting things to rummage through. Another shop is close by so this is a regular stop on the thrifting route. read more

Nice place if you want mundane! But if you are looking for antiques, unique, interesting you would be better off going elsewhere. Those things are being ebayed or stolen out of the store. I watched as 5 employees rifled through boxes, take things out & put them in cars or pockets. No silver, or vintage jewelry anymore it's just disappeared! read more

I've been shopping at St. Vincent for a long time and I always find great stuff. I've noticed that starting a just a few months back everything seems so overpriced! I've seen many very old worn and faded shirts but just because they're from a brand name store they are priced too high. I understand that if items are brand name they will be a little higher in price but come on look at the quality of the item first! The other day I came across a box of crayola crayons I opened the box to find several missing and some broken. Can you believe it was priced $1.99!? come on how much are they brand new? Like $1.00!? I also saw a nice pair of flip flops brand new still with the store tags attached they were priced $4.99 and the actual store label had $3.50 on it! I couldn't believe they were more expensive here than at the actual store! I have found many shirts and pants with holes on them priced for $3.99/$4.99 and I give them to employees who have agreed with me that such items should not be on the racks. I have also noticed that now all the racks are too packed its hard to look at the clothes you could barely move the hangers that's probably why I now see alot of clothes on the floor.
