I've passed up this Goodwill location numerous times and I've been curious about what this Goodwill location offers unfortunately this location is pretty lousy. In the men's section they mixed the formal pants with the jeans as well as the shirt section where they mix the nice shirts with the casual shirts. There's a really nasty smell inside the place as well. Store is not really that clean either. And the kitchen section staff is just putting a random stuff on shelves instead of trying to organize stuff by section. Check out lines are very long. I have a soft spot for this location - I check it out weekly, and I have found some real gems here. Will I keep going - yes. However - the store is a disaster (organization-wise). Stuff all over, just not well kept. Be weary when going here - it's a mess. I realize customers mostly contribute to this mess, but many other Goodwill's are much neater and cleaner, so their stores/management must be doing something better. read more

I find that the store has been going downhill lately. They don't have new toys or interesting toys like they used to. They tend to put all the good merchandise they have on their Goodwill values website which defeats the whole purpose of a Goodwill store. They also send the good clothing merchandise to other stores outside of Elmhurst. Elmhurst is a high-end community with a lot of good merchandise that should be showing up in the local Goodwill store. But lately I'm not seeing anything, in fact the last two times I visited Goodwill in Elmhurst , over the last three weeks, I walked out with nothing. I used to be able to find interesting toys, action figures, clothing, art supplies, whatever, not anymore. So I think they need to rework how they operate to make the store more attractive. I'm giving this review so that you guys will work on making the store excellent. My recent poor experience at this SECOND HAND left me compelled to leave this review to warn others of what's supposed to be a not for profit business... It's really disappointing what's happening at this Goodwill location. The pricing has become completely unreasonable--and frankly, it's insulting given that everything in the store is *donated*. The mission of Goodwill is supposed to be about helping people and communities, but based on what I saw (and experienced), it seems like profit has taken priority over purpose. * I saw what was a worn and visibly damaged item. I politely asked for a small discount (was not expecting anything higher than a 10% discount) on an item with a visible flaw. The manager outright refused. No explanation, no flexibility. These are donated goods--items they paid *nothing* for--so why is there zero room for reason? It sends the message that it's not about community anymore, it's just about squeezing every dollar they can from shoppers, even low-income ones. Goodwill has tax breaks and a public image built on generosity and second chances--but pricing a used shirt at \$12 and broken decor at boutique prices? That's not goodwill. That's greed. If you're looking for actual bargains, you're better off at Walmart or waiting for sales at retail stores. This location has lost the plot. read more

Of the Goodwill's I've frequented in the west suburbs, I feel like I had the most success at this location. I know it's not the largest, but in some ways, that made the shopping experience better. I didn't grab a cart at first, but an employee noticed I was carrying quite a few items, so she offered to get me a cart, which was so nice of her. She brought it to me too. I thought the prices were reasonable. I got a new with tags Quince sweater for $7.99! I also found a Weekend Max Mara trench coat for $14.99. I'll definitely be trying to go to this one more often! read more

Compared to the two other Goodwills in the area that I stop by, this one is the tidiest. It is smaller than the others, but has a pretty decent toy/game section, which is my main interest. The frame and wall art items were also really nice though, so I picked up 3 of those. Scored some posh Swell water bottles, too, for just $1.99 each. And a cute bird tea & saucer set that I will do something with, not sure. Maybe turn into a mini cactus garden. For $1.99, it was a steal. Clean, organized, well-stocked, and smelled good. Don at check-out was helpful and wrapped up my tea set for me. All of the staff members said hi and offered to help. There was a designated staffer to clean every cart between use, too. Very nice covid precautions observed. I'll be back! read more

This is my opinion and whatever you decide is up to you. Goodwill and other thrift stores are no longer truly Not for Profits. They are not about charity. When a store takes a donated item and marks it up to almost retail price, which when taking into consideration it is used, is actually MORE than a retail store, it is sick. When they pull collectibles and put it on their own website, it is vomit on your plate. When they put broken items on the shelf which someone could cut their hand on is a lawsuit waiting to happen. That is no concern for public safety. When they discontinue their half-price program based on a tag color, and replace it with a by one get one half off program, when they ask you to round up to the nearest dollar, they are NO LONGER ABOUT charity. They are a retail store gouging the average person, and those who CANNOT afford to buy something at full price. Today's visit just to buy a shirt has now taken away the last option to avoid buying from a retail store. There are no more Goodwills as far as I am concerned no matter where they are located. Found some great goodies in this store but the customer service from The cashier and greeter were substandard. While I waited in line to checkout, I noticed how friendly the cashier, Jackie with the salt and pepper bangs, was with the customer in front of me so I expected nonetheless. When I approached the counter, Jackie immediately reached for my items after ignoring my greeting. I took my items out of reach and said hello again and Jackie reluctantly said hello. I can't figure out why would Jackie be so friendly with the lady in front of me and try to ignore me as if I was invisible but maybe it's because of my abundance of melanin, but I'm not sure. Jackie avoided eye contact, didn't say thank you, and moved slower than spilled molasses bagging up my items. The greeter, Alejandro, also failed to greet me or show gratitude for my business and yet I heard him say thank you and hello to other shoppers. I don't understand why as a customer who minded her own business and shopped like everyone else, received such poor customer service but I'll probably be back just to let them redeem themselves (and get more deals). If I could give this establishment negative stars I would from how to satisfied I was. I have never been to a Goodwill this disappointing in my entire life they had more garbage than they did clothes. There was more shelves of garbage in the back then there was racks of clothes and I have never seen a goodwill like this before. The old fart "PAT" at the register had horrific customer service when I told her that I wanted to save my coupon for a later use, and she insisted on me telling her when I planned on using it because she wanted me to use that transaction. I visit A LOT of Goodwills, both in Illinois and across the Midwest. What I have learned is each Goodwill has it's own flavor, based on the type of items that are donated form the local community and quality of merchandise the management team deems "of value" to place on their floor. Thirdly there is the variable of my own taste and values. With that said, this is not one of my favorite places to shop. Goodwill has changed so much if I can give it a 0 I would. More like Badwill. Today I went to look around and bought a coffee airport dispenser and bring it home and the pump doesn't work so, I called and I can't return or exchange it. These people make a lot of $ with the items we donate. I donate bags upon bags of good items and clothing all the time. Now I can't even use the items I bought. Then they ask us if we want to round up the cents plus we don't even get bags anymore. I don't think so. The lady tells me I have to check in store. How in the hell am I supposed to check it? Tell them to put water and check it upfront by the cashier, really? Prices have gone way high for something that at times it's not even worth it. Goodwill stop giving coupons years ago when you donated them pandemic hit they stop helping people with loading their furniture in the car then stop receiving furniture. Stupid excuse about health safety because of Covid? Give me a break they touch all the crap we bring in. Money hungry and lazy. I'm thinking I won't be donating my items any longer and give it for free if I can't sell it. Goodwill has change for the worse it's not even worth going anymore. I swung by this Goodwill location yesterday afternoon to see if I could pick up some things I've been looking for. They didn't have what I was looking for; yet, I was pretty happy walking around this store. This is the cleanest and most organized Goodwill I've ever seen! The good-quality clothes were hung neatly (I saw maybe one shirt falling off a hanger), the clean housewares/toys/books/electronics were sitting lovely, and there was plenty of room to walk around and explore without bumping into other people. I was drooling over a couple chairs in the furniture section that were in great condition at great prices (I honestly would have taken them home if I had the space in my car). This is a seemingly small location and doesn't have the biggest selection, but it's a smooth shopping experience. read more

I want to echo the frustrations of previous reviewers who complained about the service provided to donors. On a beautiful summer day, I backed into the parking spot in front of the door, and opened the hatch on my SUV, which was packed with bags and boxes of items. I looked through the doors and saw a worker looking back at me. Finally, after about 30 seconds, he stepped to the doors and asked me if I wanted a bin. I was so dumbfounded I almost didn't answer. When I said that I did, he pushed out a half full cart to me. It took everything I had to not just dump all the stuff on the sidewalk! I have never been treated like that before at a donation drop. I only went to that location because I had other business in the area, but I will never go again! read more

I think this has been the best Goodwill to find furniture at. I have bought lots of things I'm refurbishing......awesome spot. Again, prices are cheap, and they have lots of little "trinkets" you can go home with and give it back to Goodwill in about 2 years! lol As far as clothes? I still have not idea, can't bring myself to buy them used, but there are LOTS of items to choose from. My husband and I have been donating items to the Elmhurst Goodwill for years. I think we're done supporting this location and even Goodwill as a whole. The last several times we have donated, with this evening being the most recent, there has been zero help unloading, or an ounce of customer service of any kind. This evening, in the snow, my husband walked into the donation vestibule, grabbed a blue bin, proceeded to unload our car full of donations worth hundreds of dollars, then wheel them back into the vestibule himself with zero acknowledgement from either of the two donation attendants that wandered into the vestibule while my husband was unloading. They really could not have cared less that we were there. I'm pretty disgusted by this. Goodwill, you need to do better for those that support your mission and make it possible to generate revenue. read more

I was thoroughly impressed with this location. It's a little smaller than my usual two, but the selection of items was really nice- i found ARMANI shoes for $7, and lots of items that were in great shape or even NWT! You could definitely find some great treasures here. The only downfall is the intersection location. You really cannot make a left to get in or out of the lot, but it worked out fine for me. Due to its closeness to home, I haven't given up on this location. I still shop here often, I forego the Sunday/Monday 1/2 price ticket special just so I won't have to put up with the lousy clientele as mentioned in my previous review. I find that if I time my visits for say, a random Thursday evening, the experience is much more pleasant. Having said that, the selection is still small and as a previous reviewer has mentioned, things seems to be out of sorts size-wise, and it's a bit claustrophobic when compared to the stores in say... Carol Stream or Bartlett. But I have found some great things here. It's very hit-or-miss, mostly miss, but it DOES happen. I had been searching high and low for months for a non-traditional urn to put my mother's ashes in. NOT at resale shops, mind you, but everywhere else. And nothing was to my (or mom's) liking. I found it here. No lie. Something that I was willing to spend big bucks on was had here for $4.99. And for the record, mom approves. Mere moments before pulling into their parking lot on my last visit, I made a mental note that with winter's harsh and drying effects, I needed to check out purchasing one of those home paraffin spas for hands and feet. Obviously, this was NOT an item I would even think to look for used, at a resale shop. But there it was on the shelf, in immaculate condition, with paraffin included, for $3.99. I was half-expecting Leland Gaunt from "Needful Things" to be my cashier when I checked out. I mean, that was just SCARY. But in an amazing way. read more

I grew up with Goodwill. I don't care what anyone says, used is the new new. Just think of it as a hand-me-down from a sibling you never knew. And since no one ever met this imaginary relative, they can't tease you for recycling fashion. This particular Goodwill is a bit small. The selection isn't the greatest, but the best thing about Goodwill is that no two are exactly alike. If you hit up one and it doesn't have something then you know you may have better odds at another location. I used this one to find my pink dresses for the Thurstday Pink Dress Hash. I was in and out in ten minutes with a sexy pink baby doll lingerie top for my friend for $3! ** The map for this Goodwill is a little off. If I could give this place a ZERO I would. Worst place to shop at. I mean if you're going for work clothes this place will have you looking homeless. All the women's shoes are torn, stained, and worn beyond repair or touch up. Customers steal in the fitting room so there are loads of hangers in the rooms. The staff is lazy and do not pay attention to people who swap tickets on the floor until they suspect it was you at the register! The Lake Villa location is much better and cleaner. read more

You just never know what you are going to get when you stop in here. Today for instance I left with 2 tart pans- 99 cents. A huge glass vase to turn into the current craze for terrariums- $4...oh and a mint condition fur coat- $60. My sister has found Marc Jacobs with the tags still on. And yet some times I find nothing...I tend to drop bags of things off here and the staff has always been friendly. With the new renovations all the Goodwill Stores they have become more like retail stores then thrift shops. They are definitely worth stopping into, don't forget you are helping a charity! If using used freaks you out, remember every time you go to a restaurant hundreds of mouths ate off that plate, glass, fork. Wash it... reduce, reuse, recycle!!!!! And save some $$$. read more

Love the hunt? On a budget? This is the place. I love to come here when my wardrobe needs a little livening up but my wallet is light. You have to be prepared to sort through a lot, try a dozen things on and end up happy with two, but it's so totally worth it. Goodwill is a treasure hunt. It requires patience and fortitude. It also requires trying a lot of stuff on, because sizes and styles vary widely, and that medium top that looked really cute on the hanger could be way too big or small. Among the finds we've scored here: Limited work pants, cute tops from name brands, just-the-right length jean shorts, a sweet Ann Taylor dress (with the tiniest of fixable popped seams), a Ralph Lauren belt for 99c, and a wired router for $2. This store is laid out pretty well, and the staff was helpful. Of course the merchandise changes regularly, so you never know what you'll find... be patient and you will be rewarded! (P.S. My friend Jene' swears Goodwill stores are the bees knees and she was spot on, thanks boo. I had a little luck. I found a cute shirt for $5 and a board game for $1.99. I spent 3 hours in this store, but it felt like 5 minutes. Goodwill is a hit or miss, apparently I came on a semi hit kinda day. I went down each and every aisle at least twice. I donate regularly to this Goodwill. I misread the donation times and arrived 30 seconds after 5pm, the closing time. The doors were open and people were exiting the donation center. As I stepped out of my car to get my donations, the attendants ran to the door to try to close it. I asked if I could drop off my donations. They refused to accept the donations and unapologetically told me to come back later--they were CLOSED. For any seller of goods or services, I would have expected more. It would have taken me one minute to bring in my donations. I didn't ask for any help; simply that they not lock me out. For a store that relies on community donations, it was a real snub. Next time, I will consider going elsewhere to a center that appreciates good, frequent donations. Maybe Goodwill doesn't need any more? read more

I think some of my best finds have been at this location! An ottoman, a few good books, etc. however, I feel as though the pickings are slimmer, but you do strike gold every so often. Otherwise, the one around Des Plaines and Mount Prospect is the best one, in my humble opinion. This place is a close second though. Just keep hunting! This is the worst goodwill in the area. Not because it's the smallest, they can't help that, but because of their prices. They're pricing used items that they got for free as if they were a store selling brand new items that they'd paid for! For example they were selling a used graphing calculator for $50, the lombard goodwill was selling the same calculator for $20. They were selling used video games for $75-$150, not video game systems mind you, just the games themselves! I looked the games up on eBay, they were selling for $3 to $15 dollars. They had a set of used wheels for a car for $999.99. Yes, a thousand dollars. There was a used office chair for $199.99, a used portable heater that was filthy and was clearly used on a construction site for $199.99, and a tv that would cost $19.99-29.99 at any other goodwill for $149.99. All of their prices are more than you'd pay on eBay, it's absolutely disgusting to me considering they get everything donated for FREE! They have stereos that would sell for $5-$10 dollars at the other local goodwills marked up to $19.99-29.99 and they're missing knobs and power buttons. The other goodwills wouldn't even put them out if they were missing knobs! Whoever is responsible for the pricing there (most likely the manager) is greedy and clearly doesn't understand the concept of what a thrift store is supposed to be!!! I visited this location for the first time today and it was amazing. They had a lot of things everything wise, but if you're like me looking for dvd's, you won't find many things here. I saw about 2 good ones, but not good enough for me to purchase them considering they were also on Netflix. The shoe collection was HEAVEN. I bought a pair of flatforms. And the staff was really nice. I looked through the clothes section, but I didn't have enough time for browsing through there, but I saw a lot of nice stuff, a lot with the tags on them still, which for a thrift store, is AWESOME! Not as good as the Goodwill in Glen Ellen. This one is smaller though so not as overwhelming. Got a few tops and a dress as well as a pair of jeans. It's always nice to get good things for low prices! The clothes are pretty causal there but I guess that's just the way people are dressing nowadays. Lots of t-shirts with brand names on them. Things that I wouldn't wear to work but maybe some people do. read more

Going to first start off with the entrance being so compact. Also, the shopping carts not being there most of the time, so I would have to rely on the baskets. The clothing options are okay, they are not the best but also not the worst. The customers are mostly of the Hispanic identity and come shopping with what seems like their whole family tree which includes the clumsy yet obnoxious children. The driveway could be very dangerous at night because of the small size. The employees are nice but get paid minimum wage and do not get appreciated for what they do. The managers are all very rude. They are very rude to their employees for what it looks like, I sometimes wonder what happens in the back where only the employees are allowed. During the middle of the day there are clothes everywhere, toys, kids playing, the furniture area is untidy, the part where all the items are is unorganized. In the women's bathroom, there is the occasional urine on the ground which is highly unsanitary. As for the men's bathroom, I can not tell you because I still have yet to experience what it is like to go in there. Final thought: Okay place to shop at but prefer other Goodwill locations. Update: Because I like to take care when writing a not so positive review, I stopped into Goodwill in Elmhurst to price check. I found a visually worn black long sleeve t-shirt with a border of rhinestones around the collar from Express. Price tag - $6.99. I then looked around to see who was shopping at 8:30 pm on a Monday night and as usual, Hispanic families, husband, wife and kids running around because this is where and when these hard working minimum wage workers can shop. I don't think those women can afford that price tag. I'd love to know what the Yelp community thinks. read more
