So happy Googie Grill is open again...we have missed you! Dinner last night was awesome; generous portions of delicious food/wine and great service. After being seated, we went over the menu and were glad that two of our favorites are still offered so we were set until Jesse, our waiter, came by and mentioned the specials of the day. Okay we said, we'll have the specials (since we can come and have our favorites any time). I had the rack of lamb and hubs had the paella and for app we shared the calamari. We have been customers of this restaurant for many years. In the last couple of years it seems evident that there is no night manager. Last week we were there and it was another off night for the service and especially the food. There is no consistency so what may be well prepared one week, will be inedible the following week. The staff just seem to be going through the motions with no desire to make the customer happy. This is the direct result of no one in charge. I spoke with the owner, Jenny, and she explained "There is no budget for a manager." Then why isn't she stepping in herself in order for this place to succeed? It was sad to hear an owner be nonchalant about poor food quality. We won't be back and I am sad about this downfall. read more

A solid diner that's pretty big too so you're not waiting super long for a weekend group breakfast. I liked my huevos rancheros and the rest of the standard diner fare looked pretty good too. After breakfast the menu seems to get some more random things like swedish meatballs which is pretty neat and if I'm around at the right time of day I'd give it a shot. read more

I have supported this place for years. I was excited that they finally re-opened today after months of waiting. I placed an online order through their site. I received an order confirmation and planned to pick up my meal after I was done shopping. When I went to pick up my order, I was told they no longer accept online orders (even though they have 3 different options to place an online order on their website). I told the manager that I had received an order confirmation and I had a pending charge that showed on my credit card. His response was that the credit card company had to issue me a refund by law. Seriously? I was told I could place another order and pay again, and wait for 20 minutes. No thanks, I guess this is what I get after years of loyalty. So now I have to contact my credit card company to remove the charge. Do yourself a favor and do not place an online order, or better yet, find a place that appreciates and values their customers that have supported them for years. read more

Went for a late breakfast with 3 generations of the family. We were seated immediately, and all ordered something different. Everything from the Benedict to the pancakes were perfect. That's hard to do! I've been there for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and ordered delivery and it's all been quality food served in a hearty portion at a fair price. Great little diner spot. I came in for brunch while waiting for a client meeting. I ordered the corn beef hash and eggs. The corn beef was shredded with a mix of potatoes and green bell peppers and red bell peppers and onion. Two poached eggs were set up on the top of it with hollandaise sauce. I ordered Rye-bread with my meal and it came with a small little cup of jam. This was a really hearty meal so be prepared with a big appetite. I'll be back again to try the eggs Benedict or come back for dinner as the dinner menu looks pretty good too. Service today was pretty good with attentive staff. read more

Took a risk trying Danish food for first time. Unfortunately the Frickadellar was just not it for me personally. The red cabbage had what seemed to be a "diet" sweet taste to it and I couldn't finish them. Mashed potatoes were good and were alot chunkier than what I'm used to. My favorite part of this meal was the brown mushroom gravy, really flavorable and delicious. The three meatballs were all generously big but the inside was bland where it does not come in contact with the gravy. read more

Well, if it was post-WWII vibe they were going for, they succeeded. The food was exactly like my mother cooked in the 1960s, and her cooking was considered good. The rice pilaf used converted rice. The veggies were overcooked, greasy, and unseasoned. And I paid $25 for 1 oz of mahi mahi that was cooked to shoe leather. Spend the extra 5 - 10 minutes to drive into Monterey proper for good food. read more

let me start my stating, we came in on Christmas Eve....a night when few restaurants are open past 5 and have limited staff if they are. While the restaurant was not full by any stretch, it was also not empty. We were seated immediately and our drink order taken soon after. The waiter was extremely friendly, knew his menu well, pointed out soup/salad selections ...all just as any fine dining establishment. The menu is eclectic, offering something for every taste. Two of us had the fried chicken, one had caesar salad and stuffed baked potato, the other had beef stroganoff. All was perfectly cooked, well seasoned, served hot and timely. Honestly, I've been in the area for years and never thought to come in.... then did so on a holiday. We all left full and satisfied. Good prices too. HIGHLY recommend! read more
