This place was kinda dead when we got there. They had 1 guy cooking and looks like the owner was the only one running the front end. Very quiet and the furniture seems a bit outdated. But their food was great. The Sirloin was tender and cooked perfect medium rare, and the red wine reduction sauce was fantastic. The Chimichurri steak was great too. The sides were good but basic. My wife's 3 layer moose cake was only two layers, and whatever the frosting was, had visible mold growing in it and on it. Had a girls night with my daughter. We went last night 2/28 to eat there for the first time ever. I got the chicken kabab with teriyaki sauce which was amazing. Not too much teriyaki sauce which I loved and also the veggie were so good. My daughter got cheese tortellini with mushrooms and with white sauce instead of the spiced sauce her request and they did it for her. She loved it also. I tried it myself and it didn't disappoint. I do not mean to lower the star standard for this place but my rating is based on one server's service. This rating is for Marcos. Everything else about Monterey cookhouse is great but Marcos is the rudest person when we go there to have a good time. He is not nice. When we go to the bar, we want to have a good time but it has been a few times that he is unfriendly. Maybe because he is busy but I work in the industry, YOU CANNOT TREAT CUSTOMERS WITH ATTITUDE BECAUSE YOURE BUSY. And I've seen him do it to many customers. The other bartender chick is awesome and she never treats anyone badly. My husband and I can't go there anymore because we dont like Marcos. We booked for a party of 11 adults and 5 children but when we came our tables were apart and we didn't sit with each other it was two separate tables which was upsetting, upon ordering food our waitress was so in rush I even was unable to complete my sentence what I wanted and she ran away every time , messing up with my order, we had our food quick but for me not as expected, I asked for mid steak readiness but it was over well , chewy and dry, lobster was good by the way . I tried my husbands ribeye he asked for well done but received mid well which was so good and juicy, also I asked for raspberry lemon drop and I loved it!! On Wednesday they have happy hour specials on food and wine. My friend and I shared a huge basket of garlic fries. Normally I think garlic fries in general are too strong with the garlic. But these were perfect. $6! We also shared a plate of brisket sliders that we didn't realize also come with shoe string fries. $6! I enjoyed mine but my friend thought it was too fatty. Only ate about half of the meat on hers. I took that fat home and gave my dog a very special treat. He was stoked! Finally we both got the ribs. $6 for a very decent amount of ribs. I was so full I took most of them home to have for lunch today. Marcos our server was amazing! He always is. The place got busy after we arrived at 4. And I understand why. We went last night our bill was 140 they added a large party tip of 30 something leaving the bill to end up at $206. The" large party " was 3 people... they gave us tap water to start. We had a Delicious Dinner on 9-16-25 while visiting Monterey. It was next to our hotel and they recommended it. I had the Skirt Steak medium with Chimmichiri which was MAGNIFICENT. The sides Twice Baked Potato and Grilled Vegetables were also Very Good. My husband had the Grilled Salmon which he also Enjoyed. Our Waiter Moses was Very Friendly, Courteous and Prompt. Peaceful but festive ambiance - Exceptional food: I've visited this establishment several times and it's consistently excellent. My husband and I visited Cookhouse about a week ago. We loved it! This is a nice cozy place locals like to frequent. The staff were super friendly and many of them would stop by our table to interact with my infant son. He's very smiley and social, so it felt very welcoming and comfortable to see him have such a good time with the staff. Our server was a friendly person who was attentive and quick. I have lived around d the block from this spot for four years and I am kicking my self for just getting here. Went out to dinner for my dad's last night visiting us from D.C. and it did not disappoint. My 4 year old loved the Mac and cheese! My wife and dad both got the mani mahi and LOVED IT. I got the ribeye and it was hands down one of the best steaks I have ever had. Perfectly cooked, seasoned and with just the right amount of smoke flavor from the oak fire is what set this steak apart. Our waitress attended us in a timely manner & made sure that everything was going good at our table. They did happen to run out of grapefruit juice which resulted in only having one Paloma but I was offered a margarita instead. Our dog has a terminal disease so we're bringing him on a trip down the coast. Because of this we're looking for strictly dog friendly restaurants and this place was close to where we were staying. The Yelp pictures indicate dog friendly, with a "dog menu" and daily happy hour. We didn't get a dog menu and there was no happy hour and I feel bad because I rushed my family to hurry so we could catch the "happy hour." Between 2 adults and a kid we ordered the BBQ sampler and spaghetti bolognese and 2 cocktails. BBQ sampler was ok -- ribs were ok and so was the pulled pork but the vegetables and mashed potato needed more seasoning and the brisket was inedible and chalky. The server asked us if we wanted to order anything for our dogs (?) which confused us bc we were never offered a menu or options for them but didn't seem like we needed to since we fed them the brisket. Bolognese was okay but probably didn't need to spend 21 bucks on it and I could have gotten similar taste from a Chef Boyardee can. Cocktails were okay as well. On top of that as I was sitting at the restaurant I read a review that suggested potential racism. Not to align stories but the service was extremely slow for us and we were barely checked on. Honestly the entire experience was sad and not worth the 110 we spent for 2.5 people lol. In addition upon further checking the bill they added 3.50 for not paying with cash which we weren't aware of. All and all the food was pretty mediocre, as was the service, and the owner is probably cheap as hell. Stopped by here hoping for a great experience with our dogs but was far from that. The only star is for the unique decor inside and the friendly waitstaff. The clam chowder was good. I am giving this place a one star review, for now, because I didn't actually get to try any food/drinks. I can update the review IF I ever go back and eat there. Their posted hours online say they are open until 10p on Saturdays, so a couple friends and I showed up around 8:30ish to get some drinks and appetizers, only to find the entire restaurant empty and locked up. I double checked online to see if I misread their hours, or something, but no! I was correct and they were closed for some reason. I can understand if some emergency happened and they had to unexpectedly close the restaurant, but they could have maybe posted a note on the door or at least turned off their neon signs so they looked closed. We took an Uber there to be safe, and from the street, the place looked open. I was mad and disappointed to say the least. It was a waste of time and waste of money for the Uber to get there. read more

As a local I passed by this restaurant often, and it was not till a friend mentioned we should go try it that I had the long awaited pleasure of dining there. Although we went in the mid afternoon the place was almost empty. Likely due somewhat to the weather as rain was in the forecast. Upon entering we were hailed from across the room with a big wave and hello as if they had been waiting just for us to arrive. We were told to sit where we like after jokingly asking if we wanted to sit outside in the patio? Remember the forecast. Mohammed or Mo was our server and he too was very friendly, helpful with the menu and very patient making several trips to our table as we took some time deciding what to order. I ordered the salmon panini which is smoked, and then of course the panini is grilled, a nice combination of flavors and textures. I also opted for the house salad over fries trying to be a little healthier, and the house vinegrette. Very nice salad dressing and just the perfect size My companion ordered the Orchard salad and there was an ample serving half of which she took home with her. She reported that it was very good. Upon our exit we walked by the dessert case and decided we must return to sample the Tiramisu with coffee. Can hardly wait until we have a girls day out again to sample more items on the menu along with the notable home made pizzas.
