WORST SERVICE I HAVE HAD!!!! Have gotten better service at Denny's!!! We walk in the restaurant and nobody is waiting looks fairly slow. What looks like to be the manager is sitting behind the counter on his phone texting.. Not acknowledging us.... Finally he sees us and seats us at a table.... We are then waiting for our waitress... There are 3 waitresses currently working we sat and waited and waited... 15 minutes before a waitress came over to help us... We ordered 2 hot chocolates and a Coke to drink and we ordered our food.... We got eggs Benedict, the breakfast sandwich and the New York Steak Sandwich..... Wait another 10 minutes we get our hot chocolates.. Didn't get the Coke.... We finish our hot chocolates... We see our food go up in the window cook rings the bell..... Manager is on his cell phone texting right next to the window.... Another waitress is filling up what looks to be hot sauce bottles.. Our waitress is walking around for 5 minutes and the cook rings the bell for now a third time and she finally goes and grabs out food.. We get our food the steak for the sandwich isn't cooked properly. And the waitress leaves.. I then again ask for a Coke she brings it over a few minutes later. We eat our food... Eggs Benedict was decent the breakfast sandwich was ok.... The New York steak sandwich like I said before was under cooked asked for well done got it and it was medium... We finish our food and the next time we see our waitress is when she brings the bill over. Even though I wanted another Coke... And we saw the beniets (not sure if that is spelled correctly) and the apple pie from previous reviews and pics and thought of ordering when we first got here but after the service we got we just wanted to get out of there. Maybe it was a bad day for the waitress or they just have a case of the lazy Sunday's but we drove an hour to come try this place out and probably won't be back because of the customer service.... The manager came over after and took $7 off our $53 bill... We see the great reviews and were really disappointed with the service. Had a bacon cheeseburger with their basil aioli that comes on everything. Paid $12 for the burger & fries which was a bit steep, I asked for the aioli on the side & instead got a cup of aioli on top of the buns being coated liberally in it. Asked for medium and received a well done but juicy patty. Onions cooked how I like them but definitely not "caramelized". Fries were fresh & crispy but needed seasoning. Overall phat burger made a better burger. The renovation was interesting and seemed well done although the original angled glass windows unnecessarily segregate and congest the interior. I really like the architecture and the jelly but how can you call yourself a breakfast joint when you can't even cook eggs right. We happened upon this place while on vacation and want to come back just to eat there. The food was amazing and the staff were super helpful and attentive. Best calamari we've had in the Monterey area! The sidewinder fries with the fish & chips are great - creamy texture inside and the perfect crisp exterior. Great attentive service, good ambiance music, and an all over wonderful experience. Forget the calamari places on Fisherman's Wharf, if you want crispy squid you gotta come here! Homemade cocktail sauce has a nice hit of horseradish, makes the perfect accompaniment to the meal. read more

Called to order soup to go, and the lady who answered was very sweet. Go inside to get the soup and decide to eat there instead. We were greeted by at least three people who were out of their way welcoming, which is beyond refreshing because amazing customer service is hard to come by. As for their food, I just got the soup, and it was some of the best chowder I've ever had.. It was rich, creamy, and had wonderful flavor that was very unique. We stood there and waited for 5 minutes for someone to come seat is. Then sat at the table for another 5 minutes before anyone came to ask us what we would like to drink. I ordered a hot chocolate and my fiancé ordered a hot chocolate and a Coke we sat there for 10 minutes and watched the man at the take out counter stand there on his phone. We got two hot chocolates but never got the Coke. I ordered a New York steak sandwich and it was very chewy I couldn't eat most of it. Our waitress walked past us at least 4 times and took stuff from other tables and never said a word to us. She never asked how the food was or if we needed anything. Won't go back read more

I'm not sure why this place has 4 stars. I ordered poached eggs, bacon and fruit. It came with potatoes too. Husband ordered eggs Benedict and the ham was like the most thin lunchable meat. The potatoes were undercooked. The bacon and eggs were both very over-cooked. How do you screw up bacon? My fruit was dry and flavorless. We ordered the beignets and they tasted like old oil. I could taste onions, fish, fries from the oil. Not good. Also the two girls working were fighting in front of us and the other customers. Awkwaaaaard. Pro: good coffee though! read more

We're in town for the big sur marathon. Needed some place close to Monterey tides hotel that wasn't a chain. I had the sand dabs which is a local fish with capers and roasted veggies and it was very good. Service was good too. read more

I have experienced nothing less than excellent service every time I have gone in and also every dish ordered has been very good! I own a salon close by so Googie's has become a new favorite of mine to grab a bite in between clients or a great place to take friends. I love that they also support other local business, produce & Acme coffee which is a delight and huge bonus! I have a couple of favorites, they make awesome fries and also make a very tasty pesto chicken mushroom sandwich. & I recently found out they also make homemade dessert, yay! The pies are yummy, give them a try. I even got a little adventurous last visit and tried the Italian cream soda it definitely wasn't for my taste and they quickly offered me another refreshment and continued to carry out great service the rest of the meal. I know some people may be upset that this location was a different restaurant before but I urge you to try Googie's without that judgement & you'll find that the food is really good! Meh. So we came here because our usual favorite spot, Chopstix, was closed on Tuesdays. For how pricey this place is it's pretty underwhelming. We all 4 came away saying "the fries were the best thing we had". We all had a variety, 2 burgers, one fish and chips, and a grilled cheese with tortilla soup. I was especially disappointed in the soup. It was mostly soggy tortillas! The grilled cheese was extremely cheesy. My son'a burger, medium well, was rare in some spots and well in others. The husbands had the same inconsistencies. Our buddy got the fish and chips. The fish was really spongy and weird. Probably won't come back, mainly because it was spendy and just mediocre food. read more

I have tried to have breakfast at Googie Grill 3 times and 3 times they did not open at the 8am opening time. The first time there was a plumbing problem...that happens so I tried again another time. The second time the service person did not show up in time to open, so went someplace else. Today was the third and final time I will attempt having breakfast with them. I saw a cook in the back doing his prep work...but no one unlocked the door nor could I see any service personnel. We went to Rosines instead and had a delicious breakfast. Instead of rating Googie Grill a one star, I've rated them a three star because I have had other meals at the restaurant and the food is good...but I can no longer trust them to open on time and I will no longer attempt having breakfast there. read more

I been here 3 times and every time I come the food is great and staff is very friendly. I also have a milk allergy and the waitress and cook made sure to that there wasn't any dairy in my food. Would definitely recommend coming to eat her for any meal! read more

The decor is GREAT!, the place new and fresh. The service, rapid, friendly and efficient. I had some corned beef hash (no eggs on top, no toast (allergic). We were there @ 12 noon, past the breakfast time which ends @ 11:30. Nice waitress arranged the hash for us even though it was no longer breakfast time. Orange Juice on the menu says "fresh", but it is not fresh squeezed. It's fresh from a container......we'll go back. There are a few "breakfasty" items still available after noon. What a funky little place with good food. My wife and I found this place for breakfast and I had my world rocked by a mixture of corned beef, potatoes, mushrooms, peppers, eggs, and hollandaise sauce! Tried this place out a couple of weeks ago and I was blown away by the food. I know it's difficult to imagine that but it happened. The place was somewhat busy but we were still seated promptly. I ordered the French toast with a side of country potatoes and sausage. Let me tell you I have a thing for potatoes and these were phenomenal. I almost ordered more. Too a stab at it because of other reviews and its proximity to where we were staying. Excellent experience overall. Had a nice caesar salad, and for the entree we had the beef stroganoff with a generous sized pieceof toasted garlic bread.. It was all delicious. We had a rare morning out sans kids and were looking forward to breakfast at this place considering the positive reviews. Unfortunately we were very disappointed and feel like the food would have been better at Denny's. My partner ordered the Huevos Rancheros without sour cream because of dairy intolerance and it came to us slathered in about a quarter block of melted cheese. There was no mention of cheese on the menu description. Why would they list every other ingredient, but cheese, especially if it's such a main part of their dish? My potatoes were soggy like it used to be frozen and the coffee was bleh. Tried the beignets which others suggested and unless you want a chewy, doughy mouthful of dusted powder sugar, I would pass. The only yumminess on the table was their jam which made the beignets easier to swallow. Won't be coming back. read more

This is my second time here. Food has been great both times. I can't comment on the service much, primarily because it was non existent today. Also, DO NOT get pie from here. It's not known for its pie so that should have been a flag not to order but it's Pi Day, so I went against my better judgement. Crust was chewy and it seemed like the pie was microwaved. Ate breakfast here on our last trip to Monterey. Not the best part of town. Felt a little uncomfortable. Food is just ok for the price. I added sausage to my two egg dish and they gave me two little sausages for 4.95 add on and the sausage was that greasy Jimmy Dean type. Place was not busy and we had to ask our server for just about everything like more coffee or a fork not on the table. Manager, asked every table (only 3 occupied) how their meal was except us...I guess we didn't look friendly. I wish them the best but we won't be returning. The food was amazing. My crab cakes and caesar salad were awesome. My husband's meatloaf was better than homemade. The kids menu was varied and my.kids loved their food. We had cheesecake and creme brule for dessert. Even though we were pretty satisfied with dinner, we still ate all our dessert. YUM! My husband and I went to Googie last night for the first time and it was excellent! The Crispy Monterey Bay Calamari starter we had was indeed crispy, fresh and delicious. I had the Frikadeller (Danish meatballs, brown mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes, red cabbage, cranberry relish) and my husband had the New York Steak Sandwich (open-faced, sautéed mushrooms, grilled onions, on ciabatta, served with fries) and they were both really great!
