Flautas (papas), choriqueso sope, cafe de olla, coca mexicana, limonada
    Tara R.

WOW! WE WALKED INTO THIS PLACE HUNGRY AND WALKED OUT ULTRA SATISFIED. From start to finish, everything was extremely fresh, stunning to look at, authentic/true to TORREON roots, and the taste was off the charts. There wasn't a single complaint from us if anything we were sad we didn't have more room. (& I loved this place so much , That I ended up eating here two mornings in a row). [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere feels like you're transported to Mexico for a moment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You'll see hard working members of the staff crafting these items for you carefully and with lots of love. The menu has many selections for you to enjoy inside a Gordita, Sope, or flautas. Amazing options like the usual picadillo, tinga, & mole and even some rarer options like requesón, rajas, or chicharrones presados en chile. & if that wasn't enough they even offer multiple styles of Gordita: al carbon, maiz, & one other style I'm blanking on right now. They also offer an amazing selection of refreshments as well! From fresh and tarty limonada, to mexican coke or cafe de olla (MUST TRY, this is what brought me back 2x in a row). They also have postres for those sweet tooths. We got the flautas with papas inside, a choriqueso Sope, and gorditas. The gorditas were chunky, pillowy, warm, and full of meat. The sope was beautifully crafted: beans first then a meat of your choice, tomatoes, lettuce, queso fresco, & crema. We also enjoyed the fresh salsa they brought out with the meal. All in all, this style restaurant is one of the best of its kind and will have you hooked once you experience it. This is the type of taste that will have you coming back for more and telling the people you love about it too.

4.5 stars, [[HIGHLIGHT]]you can sit anywhere, pretty straightforward menu.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I got a gordita and sope with a lemonade I took out the .5 stars because there is no carne asada option (personal preference) but picadillo is nice too. No refill on drink which is a bummer but they do give a big cup. Lemonade is good, not the best tasting lemonade for me but still good. Sope and gordita were incredible, what made it a hit was the tortillas that are hand made.

Delicious! Either corn or flour with choice of stuffing. They have other Mexican specialties and great coffee! Cafe de olla!

This restaurant is beautiful, and the atmosphere really transports you to New Orleans. From the music, to the decor, to the smell of the food, every detail pulls you in. I especially love the street tiles throughout the restaurant with New Orleans street names, they add such a fun, authentic touch. Now for the food: this place gives you something to call your mama about. Start with the classics and work your way through the menu because NOLA absolutely knows what it's doing. The gumbo is outstanding. You can taste the time in that roux, that deep, toasty flavor only comes from patience and somebody standing over the pot for a good long while. Kudos to the stir master, because they nailed it. From the very first bite, you can tell there is real attention to flavor, technique, and ingredients. The crawfish étouffée was another standout. They do not skimp on the crawfish, and the dish is warm, rich, comforting, and full of flavor. It tastes like home. We also tried the hand pies, which had the perfect crispy texture with a moist, flavorful filling. And whatever they're doing with that remoulade, I'm into it. The beignets are a must every single time. We tried the assorted stuffed ones and I absolutely fell for the lemon. Add a mimosa and call it brunch, baby. The DJ playing the best 90s R&B only made the whole experience even better, it fits the vibe perfectly. Overall, this is my favorite spot for Creole-style food in San Antonio. We are lucky to have a gem like this in town.

In the lobby for checkin today, I had an instant headache because the fragrance was so strong. At that point they informed us that there is some additional fee per day on top of the already pricey room, a fee that they never disclosed before today. We continued upstairs, and I could hardly breathe in the elevator it was so scented. When we got to the room it was also heavily fragranced. I tried to call the front desk, and the phone in the room didn't work reliably. Our call dropped several times. They offered box fans for us to air out the room. However, when we opened the windows, a blast of cigarette smoke wafted into the room because it is directly above their designated smoking area. We asked the front desk for help, and they said not to worry, hardly anyone smokes in that area. Meanwhile we watched several people out there smoking almost constantly. They offered no other accommodation or help. Not worth it. Very uncomfortable and upset because this will ruin our vacation. Edit: 1 to 3 stars. The manager eventually heard our concerns, responding to a secondary issue with cigar smoke in our room after leaving windows open - their recommendation- to air out the room. They found us a different accommodation and made it more than fair and comfortable. Why not 4 stars? Because it took the entire first day to be resolved.

For a starter we shared the cornbread with another couple and it was plenty for 4 people. If you are from out of town and looking for some Texas-shaped vittles or just want something substantial to stretch your meal I recommend it! Very tasty and filling. For my main I had the scallops with creamed corn risotto. It was a dainty portion but the flavors were nice. My husband had the short rib tagliatelle which he loved. It was very rich and filling. We had the buttermilk pie again for dessert and this time it tasted sweeter than I remembered. It was good but we couldn't finish it. Idk if it was my tastebuds or if it was different. Checked Yelp for dinner suggestions so Doc drove us to the paid lot next to where all the Cinderella lit up carriages drawn by horses were lined up. It seemed the boats going up and down the River portion of the Walk were busier. While we were walking I had my eyes open for a table with a view. We stopped at Four Brothers. The receptionist went over suggestions on the menu on her outdoor podium. Cornbread in the shape of Texas, shareable items like Dino ribs for $82, plus Pork Shank and ice tea completed our order. Everyone was very friendly. We had an exceptional view and we had more than enough food that we had to ask for take out boxes. My favorite was the Mac & cheese though I'm usually not a fan. This dish used cork screw shaped pasta and it was moist and not stuck together. I had to share a photo of it with Sweetie who is in Tokyo right now. Doc liked the pimento for the cornbread. As it was almost 9 pm we decided to pass on the boat ride but just walk on the other side with shops and more eateries. We're back on the road again tomorrow to Arizona.
