I started my morning with a quick drive to Taco House and I think it's set the tone for the rest of my day! I ordered two bacon and egg tacos and one carne guisada taco. Holy cow were these tacos big! I was surprised that how the ratio of egg to bacon was way off, but that did not take away from the flavor although I wish there was more bacon. The salsa verde was incredible even though I do not like a tomatillo salsa. I was unable to eat both of my bacon tacos because I was so full on the egg. The staff was super nice, but I did not receive a receipt until I requested it. I could see all of the handmade tortilla dough balls and the tortilla press from the drive-through window, which was super cool. These were extraordinarily delicious tacos, and I could taste the authenticity of them. I would absolutely return! read more

We love this place even though we haven't been over here in a little while. We're not as close to it as we used to be, but we know the people that run this restaurant and everything in here is top-notch! The handmade tortillas are amazing in the Mexican food is wonderful! Make sure you try the chips and salsa because they are very crispy and very fresh and my favorite. Here is the bean and cheese and bacon taco. Lunch is also great! This was my first visit here. The flauta plate was hardy with four chicken flautas, rice, beans, guac and sour cream. It was just okay. Mostly because it was a bit under-seasoned. The service was also just okay. We went right before closing (1:45) and felt rushed. We understood the time and planned to eat quickly but a customer should not ever feel like a burden. I do love this place because it reminds me of home -- the RGV. Up until today, every time I asked for a taco a certain way, they always took care of me and made it exactly how I requested. I don't indulge often because of medical restrictions with cholesterol and all that, so when I do, it's special to me. And honestly, it's not rocket science -- just bacon, egg, and potatoes mixed together. It tastes completely different than separately putting bacon and egg and potatoes and egg into a tortilla. Valley folks know what I mean. Today, though, I asked several times for my tacos the usual way, and they kept insisting on doing it their way instead of how I requested. Finally, the young man at the register said, "Yes ma'am, we got it," handed me the bag, and I left happy. Got to work... and the tacos were still wrong anyway. It may seem like a little thing, but little things matter. Especially when something reminds you of home and comforts you when you're homesick. The previous owner and her daughter always made me feel seen and always indulged my odd little taco request with kindness. Tacos are not what I remember. We visited as a party of 4, two kids two adults. Order at the counter and seat yourself. The flour tortillas were great but the carne guisada was dry. Something about their recipe changed. . . The country potato tacos came packed with sausage. The sausage is actually really good but I had to take some out because it was overflowing. My kids unfortunately did not enjoy their food. The ground beef soft tacos were too greasy and the beef fajita plate, the fajita meat was too soft and chewy. Not a great cut of meat. I was in the mood for nachos, so I decided to try this place out. The Deluxe Nachos came piled high, I had them hold the onions and tomatoes so your order may look a little different. I wasn't a big fan of their Picadio meat on the nachos, it's too grainy for my palette. The guacamole was spot on the chips were crispy and the plate was piled high! I couldn't finish it all. You walk up to the counter and place your order and then they call your number to pick it up. So basically self serve. They have a banner celebrating 30 years in business, so the place is a little older but not in bad shape. It's all wide open with big tables so you could come with a larger group and be ok. I love coming here. Their food is so fresh and authentic Tex-Mex. Their Barbacoa is not too greasy but not too lean it's just perfect. All the breakfast tacos are packed and the crispy tacos and their tostadas are the best. they're very crunchy and tasty and they're always filled with a lot of toppings like lettuce, tomato cheese, and onion. This is definitely a place you need to try if you haven't ever been here, it's always a little crowded but there's never really a wait you order your food and then you wait for them to call your number and then you go pick up your food and take it to your table. TLDR: This is a hidden gem, go try it! My first 'puffy tacos' since moving to San Antonio! I feel like I've lost a (food) virginity, and in a most delicious way. I know that most people are fans of Henry's or Ray's Drive Inn, but I was told to skip these and visit the Taco House over on San Pedro Avenue. Turned out this was an old school Tex-Mex diner that's only open 7am-2pm. Everything from the beans/rice/tortilla to the pair of puffy tacos was delicious and made fresh to order. In fact, I had to let the puffy tacos sit for a little as they were really steaming when they came out. One was stuffed to bursting with shredded chicken, the other with ground beef. Both great, though the ground beef one really brought back some memories as it was mixed through with bits of potato. All around excellent! Definitely returning. This place scores a 5 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. It combined well with the refried beans and rice. Appropriate amount of salt. What was the unexpected star of the meal was the lengua. In this case the lengua is actually a tasty stewed meat. It was so flavorful! I had it in a flour tortilla. You place your order at the counter and pick it up there when they call your ticket number. The atmosphere is appropriate decor. Nothing too loud. I love this place. The chicken puffy tacos are my absolute favorite. The steak fajita salad use to come in a deep fried taco shell, but they've stopped doing that so I was a bit bummed. Please bring it back! They make their flour tortillas from scratch and they're fresh and freaking delicious. Parking can be a headache if you come during the weekend, if you do, I wish you luck, otherwise parking is okay during the weekdays. Always check their hours, because I've come here on a Sunday at 4 pm and they're closed already. The restaurant is a bit run down, there's only one bathroom for the men and woman so I would have to wait in line in a narrow hallway to wash my hands or use the restroom, but the food makes up for it. I highly recommend this place if you have a chance to visit it. I have tried a handful of different taco places, but this one is the best one I've tried so far especially for the price. The only con about this place is the parking. There's not a lot parking spots so you may need to street park. All this to say the struggles for parking is 100% worth it. The tacos range from two dollars to four dollars and they are huge. I got two tacos for under five dollars and I left feeling stuffed. I got the bean and cheese taco and the egg and potato taco. The bean and cheese taco was good, but there was a lot of grease from the cheese. The egg and potato taco was amazing. It was flavored just right and the salsa (especially the red one) gave it a nice spice. There are a lot of dishes and variety of tacos to choose from and I will be back to try the tortas and the breakfast plates as well. The amount of food they give compared to the price is insane. I feel like I found a small gem in San Antonio. Service was not the best but the food definitely made up for it. read more

If you're visiting south Texas, even if it's just for a day, breakfast tacos are a must. I came in town to take care of family during Snowpocalypse 2021 and most businesses were understandably closed. I finally got my breakfast taco fix at Taco House, thanks to their super-quick drive-thru! Staff were friendly, menu and pricing are standard, but these tacos are STUFFED. I usually get two breakfast tacos to tide me over til the afternoon and easily one would have sufficed, they're so big. Eggs were fluffy, flour tortillas were thick and soft, and their carne guisada was SO good too. It's one of the true tragedies of life that breakfast tacos aren't a thing in Vegas, where I live now. So if you're reading this, go by and have a taco in my honor. TIP: They are no longer cash-only despite it being mentioned in many older reviews. read more

Well.....the good..the tortilla was good...the meat was tender..but the flavor fell waaaay short. Not sure what spices they don't use but I was very dissapointed!!! My family and I love to meet there occasionally; food is great. We always have a party of 8 or more and always get asked for us "not to" move tables around. We manage to put them up against the wall so we are not in anyone's way, fire hazards, etc. We put tables back as well. This weekend we all went in and my brother asked first if we can put tables together, AFTER we were half way done another lady comes and tells us we aren't supposed to move tables!
