Stopped here for my lunch break! The tacos were okay but the mitad fries were crazy good! It was half carne asada half chicken and each bite was perfectly drenched in queso and the creamy purple sauce and seasoned very well. I was in a hunt for hole-in-the-wall Mexican food and I'm glad this popped up on my Yelp search. I've driven along NASA but has never made a stop on this particular gas station (Chevron) that's why when the GPS took me here, I wasn't sure if I was in the correct address. I parked in front of the gas station looking for their sign and sure enough, it was a small sign on the wall. I wasn't quite sure about it since it's a gas station but since we were already there, we decided to check it out. As soon as we walked in, my kids just said "I wanna eat what I'm smelling"! It does smell like amazing Mexican food has been brewing inside for while! I ordered the chicken killa-dilla and carne asada burrito for my boys. I got the chicken and beef tacos - keto option (just added extra $1 for each). The lady that took our orders was nice. When we got our orders, the lady said they mistakenly made us two orders of the chicken killa-dilla instead of one but since they had already prepared it, she gave it to us free of charge. Everything was DELISH! Lots of meat and cheese and the addition of purple in our food made it a lot more interesting to eat! What made this experience eating in this gas station more unique is that there's a family feel to it. The cashier is a family guy and today his wife and baby helped in scanning items for customers. Also, as we were eating, another nice guy and his son came over to check on us asking us how we liked our food. He sounded like he's the owner. I see him interact with the workers on the floor and behind the kitchen counter. There's a happy vibe to this place. I can see the workers love being here. I hope they keep it that way!!! I ordered the spliff tacos which are chicken flautes with chili sauce, green sauce lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese, and lean sauce. They have huge killadillas, (quesadilla), Pastor Fries, Corn in a cup (elote), and more. The cool thing also is that my friend is on a keto diet and they offer Keto options on the menu as well. I finally got to try Gordo ninos after hearing about it months ago! First impression - embrace the purple! I forgot about it until I opened the order and was delightfully surprised, but it is sooo delicious. We somehow got all our foods with the carne asada, wish I would have tried some of the other meats, but honestly all the varieties I had of it were delicious. The quesadilla, burrito and taco. Our favorite was the taco, but partially because we (falsely) assumed the burrito would have rice or beans in it as well. The burrito was nice and hardy, full of flavor, well cooked meat, delicious sauce, cilantro and onion! I'd recommend the one with the French fries, this place seems really serious about their flavors and I'm sure it would be ridiculously good! The tacos were a bit small, my wife had 2 of them and was still a little hungry, but that's to be expected given they are street taco sized, and we didn't order any chips or other sides with our food. Luckily the burrito was plenty good to share some of! The quesadilla was a smidge too spicy for my young ones, but I thought it was tasty as well. I preferred the flavors of the other dishes since they weren't as cheese heavy, but it was an absolutely solid way to prepare a quesadilla to be honest. I wanted to like this place. I've heard so many people talk very highly of this place, but I honestly can't understand the type. We opted for steak tacos, my husband was picking them up so I told him to grab me 3, thinking that even if they were the smaller street tacos that would still be enough. These weren't much larger than Jack in the boxes mini tacos. Though they were filled with as much meat as they could hold, it was a two bite taco. The steak tasted good, however I felt the purple sauce and cilantro largely took away from the taco. It was just too much in toppings and the purple sauce just tasted like ranch to me? The kicker for me was the price though. $4 for a two bite taco?? We're in Houston, not the midwest. We have plenty of taco options in the area, and at $4 a pop I just can't justify that price. We left hungry, and after having spent $25 on 6 tacos, ended up getting food somewhere else. They were good, but that price point, even with inflation taken into consideration was crazy. read more
