Solid fish and chips especially with the tartar sauce, it tasted even better right by the water. We love their biscoff milkshake (I'd come back just for milkshake tbh) but it was sold out at the time so we settled for the chocolate milkshake. They are always busy when we visit so we do have to wait quite a bit but I'd says it's worth.
Maybe we caught them on an off day? We have so enjoyed Gordon Ramsay fish & chips previously but this day they were meh. Staff was extremely friendly, although it took over 10 minutes for us to get our order (2 fish & chip baskets with truffle fries) and the store was not busy. When we got our food neither the fish or the fries had any crispiness to them. I can't say soggy necessarily, but almost as if the oil wasn't hot enough. We ate the fish and the fish tasted decent, but we left our fries. Definitely a disappointment overall.
Damnit Gordon! That should not have been that good. We went with the fish and shrimp combo and everything was really fresh and tasty. The sauces paired perfectly with it too. Now the real star of the show was the Biscoff shake. Hands down the best shake I've ever had. Just take my word for it and try it if you ever get the chance.
This has been on my go-to list for a very long time. I finally made it this past weekend on a lovely 60 degree day in Washington DC. The location on the Wharf has always made it difficult due to parking. The nearby Wharf garages start at $11 per hour. You really can't spend a couple of hours there without the exorbitant parking fees. But if you do come down to the DC Wharf, do try the Fish & Chips. I do not normally get fish & chips on any menu because of the grease but I had to try Gordon Ramsay's. I was not disappointed. I got the Gordon Combo which had one piece of fish, one piece of chicken, and three shrimp. The fish and shrimp were delicious. The chicken was juicy. The fries were crisp. Everything was well done. I thought coming after the lunch hour close to 2PM, it would not be that busy. Not so. It took almost 30 minutes to stand in line to place my order on two self-order kiosks (one human person was also taking orders if you technology adverse) and then move to the pick up section to wait for your number to be called. The place was definitely busy and full of tourists. Once I got my order, I headed outside to enjoy my meal. There are plenty of benches if a table is not available. I highly recommend eating outside on a nice day. So much people watching and fresh air next to the water.
We decided to give this place a try after hearing good things about it. We were here on a Saturday around 4 p.m., and the place wasn't busy. All ordering is done on touch screens, which can sometimes be frustrating. You almost need a PhD in computer science to operate the ordering system. When an employee saw us and another customer puzzling over the screens, she came out and assisted us all. We told her it was our first time here and thanked her for her help. We both ordered the fish and chips. Cod is the fish they use, and it worked very well. We also ordered regular "chips" (just salted). They offer up items like "dirty chips" that cost extra. The order also comes with a choice of two sauces. We both chose dijon mayonnaise and cocktail sauce. To drink, we each had a bottle of water. The employee handed us our water right after we paid for the food. Our receipt had an order number, so we waited for our number to be called, which didn't take long. As for the food, we both liked the fish. The coating was crunchy, and the cod was flaky and moist. This dinner box also comes with a lemon wedge to squeeze over the fish (which we both did). The "chips" arrived piping hot, which we appreciated. As for the dipping sauces: to me, the dijon mayonnaise was very mildly flavored with the dijon. My husband said he barely tasted it. (He likes fries with mayonnaise anyway. ) The cocktail sauce had a bit of kick. I rarely use cocktail sauce, but my husband, who uses it more than I do, said he thought it could have been better: it arrived as a partially solid ketchup-like mass in the cup. Perhaps, they could have added some other ingredients. I wasn't impressed by the tables and chairs. The tables were spacious, but the chairs were too low. As a short person, I found myself sitting too low to the ground, like a kid at the adults' table. (The place has two unisex bathrooms. One of them needs to have its commode seat replaced) Otherwise, we liked the food and thought the portion size was just right -- neither too much nor too little. We would consider going there again. Bring your gold card.
I will admit, I came here about 30 minutes before closing, but I do not think is an excuse for the overpriced food with Gordan Ramseys stamp on it. For a restaurant with his name with a classic dish from his home country, I had high expectations. As much as I like how the batter was light and crispy, it was way too salty for me. The sauce selection was interesting and yummy, such as the curry sauce (I've never seen or tried that with fish and chips). The fried fish had some empty spaces inside (less meat) and the batter was so salty, the sauces couldn't save it. Maybe it was because I went right before closing, but I was very disappointed. The inside was modern, and British decorated with colors, but that was really it.
If this is Gordon Ramsay's version of fish and chips he sold out. Food was pretty mid. Fish was more like the size of freeze fish sticks. Very neutral flavors on the fish and fries. Flavor comes from their vast sauce selection. I don't even believe they had plain malt vinegar. Fries and fish were kind of soggy (took 15mins to get the food so I feel like it was fresh too) and the portions for $22 was embarrassing. I feel embarrassed spending that much for something that is considered fast food. Long John's silvers give you twice the amount of more authentic fish for less lol. I was pretty disappointed but was not horrible if you want to say you tried Gordon's food. Very mid experience for way too much $
I must have caught them on a bad day. I've been wanting to try this place since they opened. I came on a Thursday night before meeting friends in the area. The place was clean, and ordering at the kiosks is fairly simple. I tried the Gordon's combo, which consisted of 1 piece of fish, 1 chicken, 3 shrimp and fries. My order took less than 5 minutes to get, and unfortunately I was a little disappointed. For $20+, you get more fries than anything. The chicken had no flavor and was smaller than the size of my palm. The fish was also tiny compared to other pics and reviews I saw, and the breading was sliding off first bite. The shrimp were perfect in size and taste. I should've taken a picture of the cocktail sauce. Im assuming it was previously frozen because the texture was way more of a paste than a dip. I'm a huuuge fan of fish and chips, and this one just wasn't worth the money. If I ever came back, I'd probably stick to the shrimp. Never again on the chicken though. For less than $20, i wish there was a Long John Silvers in the area.
I'm a big Ramsay fan and have had his version of fish and chips at other restaurants, so I figured I would give this a go at this location. The Wharf has so many options for a meal if you are willing to sit down and have an experience. However, I wanted to be able to go in, place an order, and eat at my leisure in my solitude. This place afforded me that and I was never happier. Being one of four locations in the States I walked in and right up to the ordering kiosk. I wanted to go old school here, so I bypassed the combo dishes that included chicken and/or shrimp. I wanted just the Fish Combo which comes with three pieces of cod and chips. Two dipping sauces of my choice as well. For me it was Gordon's Tartar and the Dijon Mayonnaise. I also upgraded my chips to Dirty Chips #3 (bacon cheddar, green onions, sour cream). Added a drink, paid, given my receipt by the machine. Before I could go back and find a seat a staff member was already there to provide me with my drink. I went with sweet tea and after I was handed it I was told there were free refills. I like this space. It's big and feels intimate, but at the same time you can find a spot where you are by yourself. I did just that. I went towards the back, past the restrooms, and found myself a nice two top with a nice view of the street. Allowing me to people watch and take in the scenery. Before long my number was called and I went to fetch my food. The portion size, a bit small to me. Definitely not what I paid at other establishments that serve Gordon's recipe for this very dish. But the taste was out of this world. The cod was a bit bigger than a traditional fish stick size. Perfectly battered, giving you that crunch you would expect to hear. The chips, I should have gotten them plain with just sea salt. The toppings were nearly lacking and didn't do the chips justice. I wanted more of the toppings, especially since I was up charged for them. Totally missed the mark for me Overall, great experience, but when I do return, I will definitely give other things a try this go around.
I was excited to try this spot on the wharf. It seemed more popular than Hell's Kitchen itself. We tried the fish basket, it hard 3 fried shrimps and 2 fried cods. It seemed like a small portion for $20. There was a lot of fries, or chips as they call it. The fries had a lot of potato but not very seasoned. The ambience was like a fast food restaurant, not very classy. But it was nice to see the Gordon Ramsey logo everywhere with the British flag.

Last weekend we were in Washington D.C. a bit on the pricey side but so worth it. Crispy fish and delicious truffle fries. The sauce, well Gordon's Tarter and the Curry Mango were amazing. I could have ate the curry mango on its own with a spoon. Location is beautiful with the river view. Definitely will try in my hometown of Las Vegas. read more

Decided to get some fresh air and headed to the Wharf. Decided on this spot which is fast casual dining. Decided on Gordon's Combo which contains a piece of cod, essentially a chix tender, shrimp and fries (chips). You can upgrade to "dirty" chips which add various additions to the basic chips. You also pick two sauces, opted for the tartar and curry mango. All I can say is that the fish, the chicken had absolutely no seasoning. No flavour, no salt. I had to dip my way through them. The sauces were great. First and last time stopping by here, maybe it was an off day, it surely was not busy when I arrived. It may be hit or miss. Buen Provecho! read more

Honestly, I was a little nervous about trying out Gordon Ramsay's Fish & Chips with all its mixed reviews, but we had a delicious experience! Located at The Wharf, the menu offers chips, combos, shakes, and even beer & wine. We ordered: +the Gordon's Combo - this came with 1 piece of Crispy Cod, 1 piece of Crispy Chicken, and 3 pieces of Crispy Shrimp, served with a side of sea salt chips and a choice of 2 sauces +the Fish & Shrimp Combo - this came with 2 pieces of Crispy Cod and 3 pieces of Crispy Shrimp, with a side of sea salt chips and a choice of 2 sauces +and, a Crafted Lemonade The batter was amazing - the cod was so delicate, flakey, and super yummy, and great with the sauces; shrimp was just okay, and I wasn't a fan of the chicken. Sauce choices include: Gordon's Tartar, Curry & Mango, Sriracha Aioli, Southwest Ranch, Dijon Mayonnaise, and Cocktail. In terms of the sauces, I did like the Dijon Mayonnaise the best; the Southwest Ranch was not my favorite. And, that lemonade? Super refreshing and quite delicious! And, did you know that it's free refills?! Unbelievable! There's plenty of seating inside, and, I believe they have some tables outdoors? I couldn't really see, since we came in the evening. I have been to three different Gordon Ramsay Fish and Chips restaurant in Orlando, Vegas and DC. I have to say, this is not the best one out of the three. However, the fish and chips combo is great and stand to my expectation, juicy and flavorful. I love mango curry sauce and tartar sauce. Don't waste your money on shrimp or lobster, because they are not mean to be fried. Food comes out pretty quick and no problem finding a seat. However, there is a problem with the ordering machines. Both ordering machines are so slow and tile a point I will suggest Gordon to replace them. It takes me over five minutes to place a single fish comb order because the machine was not responsive. I guess that's why it is so quick for the food to come out. read more

For a quick bite on The Wharf, this was a great pick! Menu is pretty limited but it allows for the restaurant to make sure the food is quality. Not much seating inside and it was honestly warmer inside than sitting outside. The cost was reasonable for a restaurant on The Wharf. Portion sizes were good for my husband and I. Loved the variety of sauces we could pick. Service was okay but they were pretty busy for the weekend so I don't blame them! Overall, good experience for something quick read more

Came here after a great night for some food. I've been wanting to go for a while but never made it until now. Based on some reviews, it's some not so great comments but I'm willing to try myself. There's a self order line and order computer setup. LOBSTER, SHRIMP & CHIPS (FRIES) $24.99 This came with a freshly sliced lemon and a choice of 2 sauces, I got the Sriracha aïoli, which was my favorite sauce and wished I got 2 of this. The lobster and shrimp were perfectly fried with a beef batter, fresh and made to order. That fresh lemon was great to squeeze and add to meal which I loved. The chips (fries) were simple yet soooo good, crispy with semi soft insides. Not skinny and not too thick of a cut with a hint of sea salt. My meal was absolutely delicious and satisfying. ARNOLD PALMER Refreshing, not overly sweet nor sour, the exact way I love it, it just needed some lemon slices in my opinion but no complaints. Just what I needed with my meal. STRAWBERRY & CREAM SHAKE $11.99 This was soooo good I swear, once I seen the ad posted, I had to try this. This felt more like a dessert than a shake, super thick, creamy and enough strawberry. This is a must have but only if you have room after your meal, it's a treat worth trying. This place was clean, beautiful and a different vibe. The fish is really good, hot and fresh both times I had it. The fries were underwhelming both times, soggy, underdressed, and nowhere near as hot as the fish. The variety of sauces and option to pick two is great, and the three different "dirty" fry options are all appealing and generally taste good. My main complaints are (1) the price and (2) the inability to only get fried fish (or chicken or shrimp) without fries. First, $19 for some fried fish and fries (without the $4 up charge for dirty fries) is ridiculous. It's three pieces of medium sized fish fried, and you're basically eating in a fast food restaurant atmosphere. They call your number and you get your food at a counter (which is difficult to hear when you're outside), and drinks, plastic utensils, etc. are all self serve. My meal ended up being $27 and I didn't even get a drink other than a cup of tap water. Second, I don't really like fries and I don't really want to waste the calories or money on them but there's no option to just get fried fish. You HAVE to get fries. What??? Why??? read more

Favorite fish and chips place in the city! Staff is incredibly friendly and now that the weather is getting nicer it is really an enjoyable experience to sit in their outdoor area. Fish was soft and tender but overall very greasy. It was so greasy I could not finish my food. I got the fish combo which came with 3 pieces of fish, some fries, and two sauces. We got 3 combos for a total of $74.75! Way too expensive for how much food there is. It's definitely a try once and done sort of the place. There was a handful of tables along the side of the window if you wanted to dine in, but given the popularity of the place, you might not find a seat. It is pretty loud with lots of chatter and people walking in and out. You order and grab the food from the counter when it's done. It's fast food style. read more
We were vacationing in DC and visited the Wharf district. We decided to have lunch at Gordon Ramsay's fish and chips. We tried the combo meal which was 3 large shrimp, 1 piece of fish and 1 piece of chicken along with French fries (chips). I enjoyed the shrimp they were lightly battered not so much the chicken and the fish was ok. Kind of surprised. I got an ice tea to go with my meal. After trying Hell's Kitchen and Gordon's Street pizza, we wanted to try out his Fish and Chips. We were first greeted by a friendly staff and it looked like a small place at the wharf, with more seating outside. We got the Gordon's combo which included the fish, shrimp and chicken with fries. I also got the sweet iced tea, which was really sweet, but still yummy especially since it's free refills. The fish was pretty good and so was the chicken, but my fave was the shrimp. The fries were also really good and cooked well, but it's a lot of fried food. Overall it was pretty good, just on the somewhat pricy side. Love the location and the ability to sit outside. The service was less than stellar. They have automated kiosks but we wanted to pay cash. We attempted to get a gentleman's attention but he was caught up in his conversation with the other employees and was a bit dismissive telling us he would be with us in a minute. A young lady unknowingly walked up and offered to help. It's hard to hear them call your number outside with the noise and the announcers accent so when we were unsure. we went inside to ask if our number was called. My wife and I went here on a a not so busy Thursday night. On a positive note the fish were fried to perfection as was the shrimp that my wife had. The fries or chips as the Brits call them were weak and limp, why no hush puppies they maybe American but they are better. Service was at a counter at the front where you order food off a fast food kiosk and then you hope it works. Our kiosk did not work and the girl at the counter struggled, so it was manually done. It wasn't a big deal but it took a while all totaled $71 at a fast food joint. The ambience is fast food sort of, with mostly British Rock and I have no complaints about that as it's my favorite era of Rock $71 on fast food so, I get it, it's his name and he's British and it's DC so you must pay more and it's on the wharf so a lot of positives with the location but it's expensive. Came in on a Sunday for dinner I was really looking forward to trying this place. First off they had no chips! We decided to still order some fish and shrimp and 2 sauces. We each got 2 small pieces of fish and 2 pieces of shrimp. We paid $60 for this! They also charge extra for each sauce. The service was as to be expected for a place like this. However the inside of the restaurant was dirty the tables hadn't been cleaned and there was trash all over the floor. I know this is considered a touristy area but come on. I left feeling still hungry and annoyed at what we paid for. We definitely won't be coming back. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I am visiting from out of town and my friend took me. I got the fish and chips combo with just fish. Service was fast and friendly, the restaurant is no frills but in a great location on the water. The main issue was I have an allergy to shellfish and they gave me shrimp with my fish and chips. The shrimp didn't look classically curled since they were deep fried so I mistook them for smaller pieces of fish. I dunked it in sauce and ate it, it wasn't until my friend stopped me that we realized it was shrimp. I went to the bathroom and threw it up. I asked them to give me my money and they were nice and did, but I wished they were apologetic. They did not say sorry and just kept offering more food instead of my money back. read more

No, no, no...how was this Gordon approved? As a lover of fish and chips since childhood, these were some of the worst I've ever had. I got the fish combo, and both the fish and chips were soggy, even though they were served piping hot as if they were just fried. I just don't know how the deep frying was executed so poorly. The batter was thick, wasn't crispy, and just saturated in oil. It was like wet breading with a gush of oil in each bite. The fries were just as bad and the overall quality of the food was extremely poor. It was a struggle to finish the food and the textures were terrible. I'm sorry, but I've had better frozen meals than this. The meal was expensive, too, and didn't come with a drink. The tartar sauce was ok, and the only thing I liked was the curry & mango sauce, which was rich and sweet. The service was fine and we got our order pretty quickly. We ate inside the restuarant and it was quite hot - it felt like the AC was off, and without proper circulation, the air felt thick. It wasn't enjoyable to eat in. One of the best and my most fav fish and chips shops in US. Ive visited them in Vegas and in Virginia and the flavors are on point. Always get the fish and dirty chips and it tastes divine. I like how this is a simple pickup eat and leave kinda fish and chips place and not a fine dining Ramsay spot. Food is freshly made served for folks to devour. Had dinner here during Oktoberfest at the Wharf on a Saturday. It was moderately busy. The middle kiosk for ordering was laggy compared to the 2 others. I ordered Gordon's combo for $20 and got their dirty fries no. 1 for an additional $4. It took 14~ min to get my food which I felt was a bit slow. Taste wise this was one of my favorite fish & chips I've ever had. They let you choose 2 sauces and I chose Gordon's tartar sauce and the sriracha aioli which were both delicious. The portions received were quite small for the price both for the proteins and fries. They give you a takeout box that has half the inside sectioned off just to hold sauces instead of food portions. Overall very tasty but don't expect to eat much of it. read more

I had the fish and chicken, and the chicken was tough :( However, it wasn't super packed, we could find seating, and employees were nice and gave us a sample of a ice cream. I love me some Gordon. If you know me you know I HAD TO VISIT MY CHEF'S BUSINESS. lol. It is a pretty big restaurant with both outdoor and indoor seating. The menu is very specific sticking to fish, shrimp &, chicken with fries. The offer a pretty good selection of dipping sauce as well. It is fresh, not frozen so it is pretty good but just a bit oily. This is definitely a great spot for a quick lunch. I just think it is overpriced though. Mines came up to $26 read more

I was walking around the Wharf when I saw Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips. I love fish and chips and Chef Gordon Ramsey so I had to stop in. I had the fish combo, which came with three strips of fish, fries, and two sauces. I chose the tartar sauce and the southwest ranch. The fries were basic, but the fish was great. It was light and crispy. The batter didn't make it overly oily. I loved it with the tartar sauce. I didn't care for the southwest ranch. It was a pretty long wait for the food. About 20 minutes. I enjoyed my meal and would return to try the biscoff shake. read more
The food is so good and it came out really quick despite the long line that moves fast. The restaurant looks transports you to London and the food did not disappoint. I have never tried GR's Fish & Chips so when I see one, it is a no brainer to try it. This is like a fast food restaurant whereby customers form a line to order at one side, and pick up their food at another area. The food is made-to-order so the food is fresh and piping hot when your number is called. The inside seating is mainly for two-seaters, and only one table that is for four-seaters. The inside is shaped in an arc with two-seater tables and chairs all at the side. However, the outdoor seating has more tables and chairs for big groups. I had the fish combo with GR's tartar and southwest ranch. The ingredients were fresh and the sauces were very good. I also ordered the chicken combo, Gordon's combo, and the strawberries & cream shake. The chicken strips were juicy and tender. So good. The shake was a little too sweet but still yummy. All the fried food were crispy but the fish and chicken could have more meat in the batter. Overall it was a good meal. read more

Ok Gordon may have been having a tough day. As a fish and chips guy I thought I'd give old Ramsey a try. # 1 their AC was not working well or at all. That happens. #2 No ice in the soda fountain. That happen too. #3 portion size was really on the small side. Embarrassingly. 3 finger sized pieces of Cod? For 19.95.... That looks like a regular occurrence. Staff was great! I would say if one wanted to have good fish and chips, next time you are in Charleston SC visit " The Codfather" that would be a much better representation of fish and chips. read more
We were craving some fish and chips and thought it would be fun to see the Wharf area. I sometimes enjoy watching his shows (but not a fan of his person), and this was a fun choice for a Memorial Day after helping my youngest daughter move. The wharf area was great to see and when we walked by Hells Kitchen nearby almost changed plans. But press on we did to this clean and bright casual spot. Service was friendly and relatively quick. It wasn't too busy yet and we found a table inside. We chose to share the Naan fish sandwich and fries and an order of combo fish, prawn, chicken and chips . And I got her a Biscoff cookie shake. The food was pretty good but after halfway into it we were getting a bit full and fried food was getting a bit tiresome. The fish was def tasty and cooked well, the shrimp ok but underwhelming, and the chicken a bit odd with a weird flavor and a strange vein through the middle?? Fries were good but not excellent. The dipping sauces pretty good. The star of this show was that expensive shake! We love Biscoffs and it was very tasty although topped with too much whipped cream we didn't finish after eating the one cookie. Only the shake was worthy of the extraordinary prices! I'm glad we went here and tried it so I could say we did but I wouldn't return it I didn't have a companion that insisted. Excited to try my first Gordon Ramsey restaurant! The design of the restaurant was fantastic with solely Brittish music playing. Easy to order and pick up your food. Great patio to sit at the Wharf and eat. The food overall was amazing. The lead entre the fish had a crispy outside but the fish inside was not flakey at all, a bit soft if I needed to call it something; basically great on the outside/a big miss on the inside. Which is unfortunate cause the rest of the meal was superb. The shrimp were large and had the same crunch on the outside. The fries were the same. I don't think it so. It's more of a fast food place. You can order to go or dine inside or outside on the patio.

Yes they're dairy free. I've asked the employees several times during my multiple trips to the restaurant.

Where is the closest garage to park at? UPDATE: we parked at Wharf Parking Garage 1 - 7th Street Circle Entrance (address: 700 Water St SW, WDC 20024) which was less than a block from the restaurant (rates: 30 mins $5, up to 1 hr $10, 1 - 2 hrs $20)
Garage 2 is directly behind Gordon Ramsay Fish and chips. It's expensive, so if you're only going to pick up food, you're probably better off with street parking if you can find it.
Are the fish and shrimp fried separately?
Yes, I believe they are! They actually have a counter above the kitchen where you can see the number of fish, shrimp, and chicken the staff is frying. I'd say that's a pretty good indicator that they fry them separately.
What kind of oil do you use to fry your fish and shrimp?
