Solid fish and chips especially with the tartar sauce, it tasted even better right by the water. We love their biscoff milkshake (I'd come back just for milkshake tbh) but it was sold out at the time so we settled for the chocolate milkshake. They are always busy when we visit so we do have to wait quite a bit but I'd says it's worth.
Maybe we caught them on an off day? We have so enjoyed Gordon Ramsay fish & chips previously but this day they were meh. Staff was extremely friendly, although it took over 10 minutes for us to get our order (2 fish & chip baskets with truffle fries) and the store was not busy. When we got our food neither the fish or the fries had any crispiness to them. I can't say soggy necessarily, but almost as if the oil wasn't hot enough. We ate the fish and the fish tasted decent, but we left our fries. Definitely a disappointment overall.
Damnit Gordon! That should not have been that good. We went with the fish and shrimp combo and everything was really fresh and tasty. The sauces paired perfectly with it too. Now the real star of the show was the Biscoff shake. Hands down the best shake I've ever had. Just take my word for it and try it if you ever get the chance.
This has been on my go-to list for a very long time. I finally made it this past weekend on a lovely 60 degree day in Washington DC. The location on the Wharf has always made it difficult due to parking. The nearby Wharf garages start at $11 per hour. You really can't spend a couple of hours there without the exorbitant parking fees. But if you do come down to the DC Wharf, do try the Fish & Chips. I do not normally get fish & chips on any menu because of the grease but I had to try Gordon Ramsay's. I was not disappointed. I got the Gordon Combo which had one piece of fish, one piece of chicken, and three shrimp. The fish and shrimp were delicious. The chicken was juicy. The fries were crisp. Everything was well done. I thought coming after the lunch hour close to 2PM, it would not be that busy. Not so. It took almost 30 minutes to stand in line to place my order on two self-order kiosks (one human person was also taking orders if you technology adverse) and then move to the pick up section to wait for your number to be called. The place was definitely busy and full of tourists. Once I got my order, I headed outside to enjoy my meal. There are plenty of benches if a table is not available. I highly recommend eating outside on a nice day. So much people watching and fresh air next to the water.
We decided to give this place a try after hearing good things about it. We were here on a Saturday around 4 p.m., and the place wasn't busy. All ordering is done on touch screens, which can sometimes be frustrating. You almost need a PhD in computer science to operate the ordering system. When an employee saw us and another customer puzzling over the screens, she came out and assisted us all. We told her it was our first time here and thanked her for her help. We both ordered the fish and chips. Cod is the fish they use, and it worked very well. We also ordered regular "chips" (just salted). They offer up items like "dirty chips" that cost extra. The order also comes with a choice of two sauces. We both chose dijon mayonnaise and cocktail sauce. To drink, we each had a bottle of water. The employee handed us our water right after we paid for the food. Our receipt had an order number, so we waited for our number to be called, which didn't take long. As for the food, we both liked the fish. The coating was crunchy, and the cod was flaky and moist. This dinner box also comes with a lemon wedge to squeeze over the fish (which we both did). The "chips" arrived piping hot, which we appreciated. As for the dipping sauces: to me, the dijon mayonnaise was very mildly flavored with the dijon. My husband said he barely tasted it. (He likes fries with mayonnaise anyway. ) The cocktail sauce had a bit of kick. I rarely use cocktail sauce, but my husband, who uses it more than I do, said he thought it could have been better: it arrived as a partially solid ketchup-like mass in the cup. Perhaps, they could have added some other ingredients. I wasn't impressed by the tables and chairs. The tables were spacious, but the chairs were too low. As a short person, I found myself sitting too low to the ground, like a kid at the adults' table. (The place has two unisex bathrooms. One of them needs to have its commode seat replaced) Otherwise, we liked the food and thought the portion size was just right -- neither too much nor too little. We would consider going there again. Bring your gold card.
I will admit, I came here about 30 minutes before closing, but I do not think is an excuse for the overpriced food with Gordan Ramseys stamp on it. For a restaurant with his name with a classic dish from his home country, I had high expectations. As much as I like how the batter was light and crispy, it was way too salty for me. The sauce selection was interesting and yummy, such as the curry sauce (I've never seen or tried that with fish and chips). The fried fish had some empty spaces inside (less meat) and the batter was so salty, the sauces couldn't save it. Maybe it was because I went right before closing, but I was very disappointed. The inside was modern, and British decorated with colors, but that was really it.
If this is Gordon Ramsay's version of fish and chips he sold out. Food was pretty mid. Fish was more like the size of freeze fish sticks. Very neutral flavors on the fish and fries. Flavor comes from their vast sauce selection. I don't even believe they had plain malt vinegar. Fries and fish were kind of soggy (took 15mins to get the food so I feel like it was fresh too) and the portions for $22 was embarrassing. I feel embarrassed spending that much for something that is considered fast food. Long John's silvers give you twice the amount of more authentic fish for less lol. I was pretty disappointed but was not horrible if you want to say you tried Gordon's food. Very mid experience for way too much $
I must have caught them on a bad day. I've been wanting to try this place since they opened. I came on a Thursday night before meeting friends in the area. The place was clean, and ordering at the kiosks is fairly simple. I tried the Gordon's combo, which consisted of 1 piece of fish, 1 chicken, 3 shrimp and fries. My order took less than 5 minutes to get, and unfortunately I was a little disappointed. For $20+, you get more fries than anything. The chicken had no flavor and was smaller than the size of my palm. The fish was also tiny compared to other pics and reviews I saw, and the breading was sliding off first bite. The shrimp were perfect in size and taste. I should've taken a picture of the cocktail sauce. Im assuming it was previously frozen because the texture was way more of a paste than a dip. I'm a huuuge fan of fish and chips, and this one just wasn't worth the money. If I ever came back, I'd probably stick to the shrimp. Never again on the chicken though. For less than $20, i wish there was a Long John Silvers in the area.
I'm a big Ramsay fan and have had his version of fish and chips at other restaurants, so I figured I would give this a go at this location. The Wharf has so many options for a meal if you are willing to sit down and have an experience. However, I wanted to be able to go in, place an order, and eat at my leisure in my solitude. This place afforded me that and I was never happier. Being one of four locations in the States I walked in and right up to the ordering kiosk. I wanted to go old school here, so I bypassed the combo dishes that included chicken and/or shrimp. I wanted just the Fish Combo which comes with three pieces of cod and chips. Two dipping sauces of my choice as well. For me it was Gordon's Tartar and the Dijon Mayonnaise. I also upgraded my chips to Dirty Chips #3 (bacon cheddar, green onions, sour cream). Added a drink, paid, given my receipt by the machine. Before I could go back and find a seat a staff member was already there to provide me with my drink. I went with sweet tea and after I was handed it I was told there were free refills. I like this space. It's big and feels intimate, but at the same time you can find a spot where you are by yourself. I did just that. I went towards the back, past the restrooms, and found myself a nice two top with a nice view of the street. Allowing me to people watch and take in the scenery. Before long my number was called and I went to fetch my food. The portion size, a bit small to me. Definitely not what I paid at other establishments that serve Gordon's recipe for this very dish. But the taste was out of this world. The cod was a bit bigger than a traditional fish stick size. Perfectly battered, giving you that crunch you would expect to hear. The chips, I should have gotten them plain with just sea salt. The toppings were nearly lacking and didn't do the chips justice. I wanted more of the toppings, especially since I was up charged for them. Totally missed the mark for me Overall, great experience, but when I do return, I will definitely give other things a try this go around.
I was excited to try this spot on the wharf. It seemed more popular than Hell's Kitchen itself. We tried the fish basket, it hard 3 fried shrimps and 2 fried cods. It seemed like a small portion for $20. There was a lot of fries, or chips as they call it. The fries had a lot of potato but not very seasoned. The ambience was like a fast food restaurant, not very classy. But it was nice to see the Gordon Ramsey logo everywhere with the British flag.
We decided to visit the restaurant on a Saturday night, during Mardis Gras. I was happily surprised that the wait wasn't that long. The outside patio has tables. There are limited tables inside the restaurant. A greeter watches the flow of people and lets customers in a few at a time. There are several types of "fish and chips" or fish items, including sandwiches. The fish portion is small. The fries were decent. Two dipping sauces come with any order. If you want vinegar or additional sauces, you can ask someone at the pick up counter. That will save having to get back in line just for sauce. I was surprised that a Gordon Ramsey restaurant didn't gave a giant dispenser for ketchup or napkins in the to go bags. The curry sauce was my favorite. The strawberry shake was worth the trip. Ordered the Gordon's Combo (1 fish, 1 chicken strip, 3 shrimps with fries) also comes with two sauces. The tartar sauce is a must! I really enjoyed the fish and shrimp, the batter for the fish and shrimp was perfect, very fluffy, light, and crispy! The chicken was decent as well, but I recommend just getting the fish and shrimp! They really did the fish and chips well at this location. Everything came out hot and crispy. The fish was nicely cooked and seasoned, the fries were crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. This was a perfect snack to share as we walked the wharf area on a beautiful sunny day. read more
This is such a great spot for late night snacking. I came here after a concert at the Anthem. My husband and I debated what to get and settled on the regular fish and chips. The food came out fresh and fast. Somehow our order got lost in translation and we ended up with the fish and shrimp. It was late and we were tired so we didn't cause a scene. The batter was light and tasty without being greasy. I'm a fan. It's honestly one of the more affordable options at the Wharf despite it being $20 per order. The mango dipping sauce was sooo good with the fish. The aioli sauce was great with the fries. read more

This place had a line outside the door when we arrived, so we were very excited. I got the fish/shrimp and chips combo while my friend got the fish and chips. Although it was very great and delicious, I'll admit I was a little disappointed. I had high expectations and was expecting it to be mind-blowingly good/never-had-anything-better, but no luck. I would definitely go back, especially for that sriracha aioli, which the whole group agreed was fire and elevated the meal. read more

We just finished our dinner at Gordon Ramsay's fish and chips in the wharf. The prices are ridiculous. You have to check yourself out, which is extremely slow and leads to a long line. And then when you get your food, it is overly oily. You are left with an awful dreary pile of overly oiled and congealed french fries at the bottom. I would never return to this place in Gordon Ramsay should be ashamed to have his name attached to it. read more

came here as we were staying at the Hyatt House on the Wharf & it was less than a 2 minute walk. it wasn't very busy at 5 PM which was nice, but they were bustling around in there. since it was so windy outside, we opted to huddle by the window bar area to eat. we ordered two meal sets (do not come with drinks) with different fries to try. my favorite by far was the parmesan truffle fries. the sauces were good as well - you can select two for each combo set. the fish itself was delicious. my friend is from the UK and said the fish was pretty good shockingly! read more

The food was fresh out the fryer with a nice crispy batter that wasn't too thick.The highlight of the meal were actually the sauces. We tried their famous tartar sauce, curry mango, sriracha aioli and Dijon mayonnaise. All the sauces were amazing and paired great with the fried food, but you have to try the curry mango! read more
My husband wanted to try this place for a while and finally we got to go. Probably won't go back here to The Wharf. It was far for us and parking, haha $40 for probably 2 hours! I wouldn't say it was worth it. But what we got it was good, however, we had better. We got the fish combo. The cod was fresh and flaky. The batter was crispy, paired with the tartar sauce created the perfect balance. The fries were so good as well! I think it was expensive though but maybe because you are paying for the name :) service was nice. Restroom probably could use some cleaning since it was on the side of the restaurant with its own entrance so anyone can go in and out. read more

I was so excited to try this place but was unfortunately underwhelmed. I visited during the holiday season and the Wharf was having an event, so it was likely busier than usual. The line extended outside and I probably waited over 30 minutes in line just to order, and the food took around another 30-40 minutes to come out so I wasn't necessarily off to a good start. The food was just okay. I got the fish and chips platter, and I substituted the chips for truffle fries/chips. The chips were good but the fish was oily and under seasoned. I also got another platter which came with fish, 1 chicken tender, and a few shrimp. The shrimp was my favorite of the three. The star of the show was the biscoff shake, which was one of the best milkshakes I've ever had! Overall, if I came back I would order a platter with just shrimp and chips and a biscoff shake. Although, I'm not sure if I will be back as the environment in the restaurant wasn't the best either, it was messy and people would hover to get a table because it was so busy. read more

Light, crispy, and delicious are three words that describe my dining experience at Gordon Ramsay's Fish. I popped over to Gordon Ramsay's Fish and Chips (GRFC) following a fantastic cocktail at the DC wharf location of Hell's Kitchen. As always, the management team, Ashlee, was phenomenal, and the drinks were divine. When I walked into GRFC, the service was terrific. I informed Byron that I was a new customer, unsure what to order. He graciously offered multiple items on the menu and assured me they were all fantastic. The combo menu is simple and perfectly curated to the most discerning pallet; the lobster and shrimp combo is genuinely special, plus if you add a piece of fish, OMG. They need a full platter that gives two shrimp, fish, chicken, and lobster tails for $22; that would be a steal. I can say Chino is indeed a fry master, and the team a superb supporting cast. The fish, lobster, and shrimp were perfectly battered. They were light and crunchy--it was simply perfect! The fries were crispy, and the dipping sauces I decided on, mango curry and cocktail sauce, were the ideal accouterments for my meal. This place has it all. I am thoroughly impressed and look forward to a return visit to try the milkshakes. Ashlee says they are delicious. read more

tldr: Not the best fish and chips I've ever had at a fast food restaurant but definitely the most expensive at $20 after tax and tip for 3 pieces and fries. Nice location at the Wharf. Nearby the upscale Hell's Kitchen. I would not go out of your way to come here for authentic fast food British fish and chips. The fish is cooked well--not overly dry nor greasy. However, it's missing the smashed peas which is usually a staple of British fish and chips, does not come with lemon, and has under flavored chips. The service is also very slow for a fast food restaurant. With about 7 folks ahead of us, it took roughly 20 minutes to get our food from the time we ordered. One highlight is the variety of dipping sauces. But don't come here just for that. read more

We visited Gordon Ramsay Fish and Chips on a recent visit to the DC Wharf. The restaurant is very efficient and clean. The service is spot on, making it easy to order and pay. I enjoyed the traditional fish and chips, while my wife enjoyed chicken fingers. We both enjoyed our meal and believe that it is definitely worth a stop when you are at the Wharf. It's not fancy cuisine (that's next door at Hell's Kitchen), but it is fresh, hot, perfectly cooked and worth a stop. Oh.... and the fries are also perfect. You have to ask for the malt vinegar. If you like over priced fish sticks served in a filthy restaurant by rude employees, you've found your nirvana. I mean it, it's literally 3 fish sticks, some fries and a fountain drink (without ice by the way) for $26. Horrible service and horrific food. Gordon Ramsay can't possibly know this restaurant, with his name in its title, is run this way and serving this food. It's bloody rubbish. read more
We wanted to come try this spot as he's a big fan of Gordon's shows and some of his other restaurants. The location is in the busy wharf, has patio seating which is a plus, and the food doesn't take terribly long to come out! The lemonade was just about perfect! The fish and chips were OK, nothing to run home about. I wouldn't intentionally return (ie make plans!) but if I was with someone who wanted to give it a go I would order. read more

I had the chicken, fish and shrimp combo with truffle fries. I expected better given Gordon Ramsey name is on it. It's trash for over $24 a box. Never again. The chicken was hard. I took it back to the counter and the cooks couldn't understand what I was saying. I asked them to replace it with fish instead. It tastes like the Gordon's fish sticks out of the freezer section at the grocery store. Highly disappointed. read more

In need of a quick lunch, we decided to peruse The Wharf with all the new spots amidst the construction and stumbled upon Gordon Ramsay's Fish & Chips. Stepped inside and walked up to the register. I opted for the Fish Combo. 3 pieces of Cod, 2 sauces (Curry & Mango and Gordon's tarter sauce) and upgraded the "chips" to Dirty Chips #3 (Bacon-bacon, cheddar cheese, green onion, sour cream). Ordered a lemonade to drink (they did offer beer & wine, too). It has indoor and outdoor seating, but it was rather warm, so we opted to eat inside. Tables are on the small side and inside seating was limited, so I was glad there were only 2 of us. Order probably took around 10-15 minutes. The good? Fish & chips were crispy. Curry & Mango sauce is good and Gordon's tarter has a slight twist. The okay? I found Fish(cod) & breading on the bland side. You really need the sauces. I prefer Fish & Chips with just vinegar. As for the Chips, I should have stuck to just natural sea salt versus a "Dirty" option. It made the meal too heavy. As we were leaving, lines/crowds were growing. Parking is annoying here. I was there less than 1 hour and it was $10. There are probably better options, but I was new to the area and parked at one of the garages at The Wharf. read more

I just discovered fish and chips last year and I've been on a year long fish and chips tour trying to find the best local options. I was so pleased to find this place on UberEats, since Gordon R is from the motherland of fish and chips I knew it wouldn't disappoint. I of course ordered the fish and chips and my partner had the shrimp and chips. She wasn't really impressed but I thought this was a solid option! This definitely wasn't the best rendition I've had, but it's a good choice if you're in the area. I ordered delivery so I can't speak to the service or inside but I plan to go back and will update my review! read more
The staff was friendly. The place was very small, there were some tables and counters where you could eat inside, and some tables and chairs outside but I wouldn't come here with a large party. The food was tasty, don't know if the volume of food was worth the price tag, but the food we got was better than the average pub's fish and chips. read more

I really enjoyed this experience! First it is in a beautiful location (sans parking fees) with views of the dock in DC. I have been here twice and the people who work there a great. They make you feel welcome and you don't feel like you're a burden for asking questions. Now the food... I had the chicken, the lobster, and the shrimp (perks of bringing family ). Everything was really good. Great flavor, great crunch, good portion, and good fries. The lobster was the best but I would order the chicken as a good second choice. The sauces were great, at the recommendation of the cashier I had the mango curry, and the siracha aioli and I was not disappointed. The milkshakes are a bit on the creamy side to the point where the cream overrides the flavor of the milkshake. So I probably wouldn't order that again. If you tell me there is Bischoff in anything, I really want to taste it! Just an overall great place to eat. You're going to spend some money, but the experience will be worth it! Came here for the fish and shrimp plate and a drink $26 total. For somewhat "fast food" i found the prices to be high. The cod and chips were great. Though the shrimp were large they lacked flavor after being fried and battered. The sauces were just okay. The staff weren't approachable. The restaurant has very little seating but was clean. Overall I would come back for the fish plate. However considering this is more of a "fast" food set-up I found the prices to be very high. read more

Washington, DC - visited the Wharf for a fun birthday trip and stopped here for a casual lunch. Order taking was quick and efficient. When I mentioned to my husband that lunch was my treat since it was his birthday, the order taker took note and offered him a free shake. That was really kind! And tell you what - that Biscoff shake was worth the trip. The chicken was hot and crispy. Shrimp and fish was too. Sitting at the barstools was great for people watching. Overall great experience - only drawback was it's a little pricy. Really appreciated the birthday treat :-) read more

How is this only 3.5 stars??? This was amazing! I waited behind one person on a Friday night. I ordered the fish combo. I chose the tarter and the mayo as one of my 2 sauces but next time would just ask for double of that tarter sauce. I got the regular fries versus the up charge for dirty fries. I also got a Stella which came in a van with a cup. It came up quickly. I found a clean table no problem. Hands down the best fish and chips I've had in the U.S. The fries were great too. The fish had were big hunks of flaky fish and a very crispy outside. The fries were fluffy inside and crispy outside. When I picked up my order, I grabbed some packets thinking they were ketchup but they were Tabasco. I wanted ketchup but didn't want to stop to go look for it. read more

What makes this location so popular? Firstly, the name secondly, the UK packaging, and thirdly, the sauce! The fish was flakey but maintained it's structure, and there were a lot of crispy fries! I think what really blew me away was the curry and mango sauce. The place is always pretty packed because it's right outside the wharf so you can enjoy fish and chips at the dock. I like the number tracker they have for orders so you can kind of see what most people are ordering. Pretty helpful if you don't check Yelp and are unsure about what to order. The workers are friendly and efficient, but the bathroom facilities needs to be properly maintained. It's well air conditioned, and the workers constantly ensure that the table and chairs are clean. First of all I have to say the staff was amazing. They really good time and explained the menu and all my questions about all the food options. I ordered the fish and chips with the Ramsey sauce and the curry sauce. The fish is three pieces of Pollock that are really fresh without any fishy flavor or smell. The very firm and solid to the touch and are not overly fried breaded or greasy. Well they didn't have a strong flavor they went perfectly well with the dipping sauces. It was almost amazing how firm the fish pieces were and how well they stood up when dipping into sauces. The french fries were very good they seemed homemade and very potentially were hand cut in the restaurant. Do a perfectly cooked and not overly greasy. The sauces were also very good I like the curry sauce the best and I also understand the Ramsey sauce now I just want to know what was in it. The restaurant was very busy the line moved quickly. I was annoyed at one point and how long it seemed to take for my food to get done but then I was pleasantly surprised by the lady who asked me how I was before she let me proceed to saying what my order number was. Then she wrapped up my food along with napkins and handed it to me with a nice smile. The restaurant was very clean well kept up and again the staff were very nice. I would say it was fairly expensive for fast fish but it was a good atmosphere fun experience and I would go back again to check it out. Definitely worth the try if you're in the area. read more

I was not a fan of the food but I've been told that I might just not like fish and chips in general... The chicken and fish are fried to a nice texture but they're absolutely flavorless because there's no salt. I actually had no idea which one was the chicken and which one was the cod. The only flavor comes from the sauces, which were fine. The fries were a good texture but salted unevenly- I think the fries further down the Wharf at Falafel Inc are better. My stomach was turning after this meal and I think it was from all the grease. The prices are a little high and it's not my cup of tea but others have told me that it's good fish and chips. Otherwise the service is really friendly and there's a lot of seating inside so it's good for a fast meal with a big group of people. read more

Stopped here for a quick lunch while at the wharf. I picked up the chicken, shrimp, and fish combo while my other party got the fish and shrimp combo. The food was fresh and delicious. Service was quick and friendly. I really liked the tartar and curry mango sauces. Prices were a bit steep for what you get as far as protein but on par for the area and restaurant name. I would go again! read more

I don't think it so. It's more of a fast food place. You can order to go or dine inside or outside on the patio.

Hi Mariam, Our batter does not contain beer or alcohol. Due to the way our food is prepared, it is not possible to guarantee the absence of allergens in our products.

Yes they're dairy free. I've asked the employees several times during my multiple trips to the restaurant.
Are the fish and chips safe for a peanut and tree nut allergy?
Hi Lorraine, while the Fish and Chips do not contain peanuts or tree nuts, due to the way our food is prepared, it is not possible to guarantee the absence of allergens in our products.
Where is the closest garage to park at? UPDATE: we parked at Wharf Parking Garage 1 - 7th Street Circle Entrance (address: 700 Water St SW, WDC 20024) which was less than a block from the restaurant (rates: 30 mins $5, up to 1 hr $10, 1 - 2 hrs $20)
Garage 2 is directly behind Gordon Ramsay Fish and chips. It's expensive, so if you're only going to pick up food, you're probably better off with street parking if you can find it.
Are the fish and shrimp fried separately?
Yes, I believe they are! They actually have a counter above the kitchen where you can see the number of fish, shrimp, and chicken the staff is frying. I'd say that's a pretty good indicator that they fry them separately.
What kind of oil do you use to fry your fish and shrimp?
Hi Wendy, we are using Canola oil.
