I got the spicy salmon roll, dinosaur roll, unagi q, and mini Godzilla roll. Honestly for $4.49/set of 4-6 pieces this is a great deal in wicker if you're looking to satisfy a sushi craving. The order takes about 20 mins to come out so would order ahead for carry out. They also have plenty of seating inside as well.

While I wouldn't say this place is one of the best sushi places in terms of quality, I love the fact that you can get multiple "mini-sized" portions. It makes it a lot more fun to come here alone, and I'm able to order 4 different things and it be until 20 bucks. If I had a larger party, I'd probably pick a different spot; however, for one or two people this is a fast, no-frills spot where you can enjoy different flavors without leftovers!

The moment I walked in, the first thing I thought was it smelled nice and fresh. Adam provided great quick and welcoming service. He told us with the new changes to the menu and got our order in quickly without feeling rushed. There wasn't a lot if any of hot plates on the menu, so if you're not a raw fish person maybe try another spot. The sushi was solid, for the price. It's not the top top tier but a great spot to meet and catch up with my friend or stop after shopping etc. I only knocked it down a star because of the limited menu related to their hot plates.

Good service and decent rolls for everyday meal. We liked the portion of ramen which was great for kids.

Solid sushi and reasonably priced. Stumbled on Gorilla while in the area. Ordered the shrimp tempura rolls and tempura appetizer. Pretty good. I enjoyed the roll. Sushi was fresh and tasty and was $8.95 which for the area is a deal. I see why while I was sitting in eating their delivery pick up was super busy with people constantly coming in to pick up orders. The location is small so not good for big parties. They play good music for a sushi bar. They have chopsticks in a jar readily at all tables which is different. Normally when you're at sushi restaurants they give you throw away chop sticks and hopefully they do the same with these and they're not reusing them. Service was Ok. Once I received my food, no one came back to check on me to see if I needed anything else before finishing so I deducted a star for this. I would come back for the sushi though.

This was my first time ordering edamame from here and I'm shocked at how little I got for the $6 I paid for it. The picture doesn't doesn't do it justice. Very very tiny portion for the price and I had to season it myself because there was barely any salt on it.

This was a great sushi place in Wicker Park--the sushi was very affordably priced, and everything tasted fresh. We were the last party that was seated for the night. The staff was very accommodating and had us order before our table was ready, as we were waiting. The soy sauce came in little prepackaged plastic containers to the table. The pieces of sushi were not huge, but for $2.50 a plate, who is really complaining?

This sushi is great and one of the most affordable options I've seen in Chicago. Super fresh and really cool combinations. Their spicy miso soup is also incredible. It REALLY brings the heat. We ordered for delivery and everyone was super friendly and delivery arrived within the hour. Highly recommend! read more

Cheap Sushi is usually a turn off but in Gorilla's case, as many have already stated, the price point reflects the portion size and not necessarily quality. You're gonna get some smaller portions but then you can order more variety so kind of a trade off. I need to give this place a few more visits to see if it can't rank a bit higher, everything we had was just ok, not great but not bad either. read more

This place must bribe people for reviews - that's why you see a bunch of 5-stars coming from accounts with no photos, and the legit reviewers are giving it mediocre scores. The sushi is cheap, but you get what you pay for. Sushi rice is unflavored white rice like you'd get in a Chinese restaurant. Fish is meh quality, like frozen and thawed from a supermarket. read more

The service, presentation, and atmosphere are all amazing, but we keep coming back for the food. It's the best bang for your buck and definitely my favorite sushi spot in the city. We ordered take out and this place was a bit disappointing. We did order end of the night, so maybe that's why things came out the way they were. The first thing I got a sip of was the miso soup, I've never had such bad miso before. It tasted like a light flavored hot water. It was a weird experience. Also got the sushi and it was just okay. The rice wasn't flavored, and the sushi pieces were just okay. Some of the ingredients seemed lazily put on top. The sushi was just one up from grocery store ones. Maybe this was a bad night for them, maybe because we ordered late, but food should be semi consistent. read more

This is one of our two favorite sushi spots in wicker park. The service is always great and we can walk to the restaurant from our house. Manny was our server today and made some awesome suggestions my faves are the mini Godzilla and the volcano roll. My husband also liked the mini Godzilla the millennium the red dragon! I also love the spicy miso!!! They have more special rolls and monthly specials :) Definitely go if you are in the the mood for some good sushi. read more

So this place has been my go to lunch spot for the last 3 months. I've only done carry out or door dash orders. Price is great. Quality is solid but only based on the Philly roll, Miami roll, and Gyoza which I've consistently ordered. So if you're looking for a solid meal I highly recommend this place. read more

3 of us ate till we were full here for $30!! In Wicker Park! That's crazy! We came here after being denied by Sushi Taku's long wait and it was a blessing in disguise. The food here was super fresh and super well-priced. Our favorites were the 4-piece specialty rolls for $3, especially the trio roll. The basic spicy rolls were also good. It was not crowded in the restaurant but they get a lot of delivery orders so it was good that our waitress warned us there would be a bit of wait for the food. The wait was not too bad. They had some specials on the board which were really good value too. Overall the restaurant was casual but nice, and the only thing we missed was alcohol which hopefully they are BYOB so we can bring that next time. There are not many tables for more than 4 people but I assume they could put them together for larger groups. read more

The sushi here is so accessible price-wise it makes you feel like you need to order everything and anything. Quite the deal! It's definitely really good value for what you pay and you'll leave satisfied and with fresh fish in your belly. So let me start by I'm a little biased. I have been a huge gorilla sushi fan for a long time. Normally I have to go all the way (haha) to Logan Square to get my favorite cheap sushi. Well NO LONGER! I can WALK to my favorite place from my apartment. Pros: The service here is far better than the Logan store. Also, it is a lot bigger so it isn't as cramped. The food is exactly the same so I always know exactly what I want. Nice window seats with good people watching. Brightly lit and updated makes for a very nice dining experience. If you haven't checked it out you are missing out! BYOB per-usual and you can eat all the fried shumi and unagi you want and it won't break the bank! Cons: Per usual in the city, there is limited parking. But this just comes with the territory. So save yourself the headache and take the Blue Line (right around the corner) or an Uber. Or, if you're like me, just walk :) So glad to have you guys in the neighborhood! #TeamGorilla read more

If you are new to trying sushi this is the perfect spot for affordable selections. I was always curious but with all the different types of sushi I never tried it. Especially since its a little pricey. Almost everything is 2.99 and with all you can pick from it doesnt hurt your pockets! I have been here twice and loved it both times. One thing that i have noticed at other sushi location reviews is the big amount of rice they use and here the ratio is perfect. You have to try this place. The waiter we had both times was really nice and they are willing to omit some of the ingredients from the selections. Its all type of occasion friendly. read more

I think some people would find the service top notch here--constantly checking in on me and keeping water refilled. I guess that came with a cost: 3% service charge automatically applied, and the server proactively brought over a digital payment system, so the 18% tip I selected calculated off the total leading to what was essentially a tip of 23%.

Then wiped his fingers on a dirty rag and proceeded to finish making the bowls. A short time later, we were served that same bowl of ramen. Watching an employee use their bare hands and mouth on food that was then served to a customer was extremely concerning and completely unacceptable from a food safety and hygiene standpoint. It ruined the experience and made us lose confidence in the restaurant's food handling practices. I hope management takes this seriously, retrains their staff on proper food safety procedures, and ensures this doesn't happen to anyone else.

Non pork dishes were the Mushroom 3 ways and Spanish octopus. Mushroom dish was savory with all the coated sauces elevating this. Spanish octopus was kicked lightly and easily can bite in to enjoy the tender and charred portions. But the award went to my main course - the braised pork shoulder with saffron, apricots and Swiss chard. Aside from the rippable pork meat when dining on it, the sauces fused together on this dish elevated it and had everyone coming back for more. I needed an official Chicago culinary experience and found it at The Purple Pig without a doubt.

At that point I knew the first meal wasn't a fluke. It's not inexpensive, but the portions are generous, and I felt the quality more than justified the price. I was there by myself because I'm traveling for work and actually enjoyed the communal tables. They made the atmosphere feel welcoming and a little less lonely than sitting by myself. The staff was excellent, too. The gentleman with the glasses at the meat counter was friendly, funny, and made the experience even more enjoyable. He even threw in a complimentary rib, which was such a nice surprise and a great example of the hospitality here.
