My friend and I stopped by cause we wanted something sweet and Gourmandise was the closest option for us. I used to go to Gourmandise all the time when they only had their DTSL location and it was always such a treat. The only menu item I really enjoy here is the tiramisu because it's always constant in taste. Sometimes I don't enjoy branching out to try different things on the menu. Gourmandise is a great spot for late night as well, but my warning is that they might be out of a specific dessert (in our case it was the cheesecake). They do offer food and drink here as well. If you sit down, they recommend that you order with your server. You can go up to the bakery area to look at the desserts, but you'll want to go back to your seat and order with your server. You'd think the whole point of a bakery is to churn out fresh, warm, delicious goods daily--apparently, they didn't get the memo. What you'll find instead are sad, stale relics that taste like they've been sitting on the refrigerator shelf since the Clinton administration. The croissants? More like cardboard crescents. The bread? I'd rather gnaw on my shoe sole--it'd have less dust and better texture. And don't get me started on the staff's indifference. Asking if anything's fresh is like asking a brick wall for life advice--you'll get a blank stare and a shrug, followed by some mumbled excuse about "yesterday's batch." Yesterday's batch? This isn't a thrift store for baked goods! I'm not here to adopt your day-old rejects; I want something that hasn't fossilized. The only thing fresh here is the audacity to charge full price for what's essentially edible regret. Ahhh, Gourmandise is a breath of local fresh air in a chain-restaurant flooded Draper. I'm happy to see you here! My friend took me to brunch this morning for my birthday, and we decided to hit up the new location (downtown is a favorite, but this is closer to home.) I first noticed that the restaurant is located on the corner of a main street, but it's a little tricky to get to and the parking is a bit wonky. We were immediately greeted and taken to a table. The hostess first attempted to seat us at a small table sandwiched between another couple and a family with a toddler in a high chair. We asked for a different table with a bit more space, since the restaurant was not full. She was happy to oblige. Our server, Chase, was friendly and accommodating. In fact, he told us that he would do anything to make our stay enjoyable-so we asked if he dances. (He looked like he could be a good dancer). No, he did not, but was willing to learn. The menu options were plentiful and all looked delicious, as did the baked goods in the case. I was feeling like something light, so went with the classic oatmeal. It was very thick and filling. I have had the avocado toast with a side of poached eggs a few times and liked it, but today I got it with a side of dirt apparently. The micro greens were still attached to their dirt and roots and placed right on top of my avocado toast. I did receive a replacement, but had a hard time eating it because all I could think was they probably don't wash their micro greens if this chunk of dirt was able to make it onto my plate in the first place. They have a sign on the door asking for patience due to short staffing but this...shouldn't happen no matter how short-staffed or busy you are. I'd be happy to wait extra time for my food if it means it will not have dirt on it. On top of that the patio is allegedly dog-friendly, but there's no gate to get them in and you can't take them through the restaurant so be prepared to hoist them over the fence and either leave them there alone while you walk through the restaurant or climb over the fence yourself. read more

So all day I was craving a Coconut Cream Pie. I wanted a really good one so I stopped here. They didn't have one but i couldn't leave without exploring something new. They had the most delicious triple stacked strawberry desert. It was in the shape of a bagel. The crust was flaky and buttery. It was topped with sliced almonds and glaze. In the middle was rich French Creme and fresh strawberries. The bottom layer was made the same as the top and a touch of Powdered sugar frosted it. I think they cost about $6 each. An absolutely beautiful thing. With roasted butternut squash mashed potatoes, brown butter sage cream sauce, and broccolini & caulilini, this meal was nearly perfect. Arriving at Gourmandise around 11:00am on a Saturday, I was ill prepared for the fervor with which people regard this Utah institution. The majority of the nearby parking as well as the dining room were full, and it wasn't even really lunch time yet! I suppose, though, it's a popular spot for brunch. I'm still a little salty about the closing of Bake 360, but if a new bakery had to take its place, I guess Gourmandise is a suitable alternative. Maybe. People rave about their marzipan cake, and I had not yet tried it. I'm a big fan of that almondy delight (I thought I hated it for some time, but that was simply due to the rampant bad versions out there), so it was high time I remedy my neglect, and I was excited to finally get my hands on some. Sadly, their marzipan is of the poor variety, and I just removed the layer enfolding my treat. The cake itself was decent, moist with a nice crumb, but the filling was also not my favorite. Something artificial in there. The tiramisu was better, though just an average rendition. Service was excellent. A trainee, Reuben, helped me pick out my treats, providing suggestions and packaging them up carefully, all with a big smile and passion for what he was doing (even exclaiming he made sure I got the prettiest slices, haha). Kate rang up my order, and she too was very pleasant and sweet. The space is certainly smaller than downtown, but it has the same light and open feeling, and the changes they've made are an improvement over the previous set up. I wish there was a pretty outdoor area like the original. Prices are a little high, with most baked goods averaging $5 (cookies are $1-$2, some pastries up to $8 - I see you darling hedgehog cream puff!). An entree is likely to run you $10-$15+. I need to have an actual meal here, certainly, and they make so many delectable pastries and baked goods, that maybe I just had bad luck and picked out the less-than-stellar ones (I quite enjoyed cookies from the SLC location in the past). So while overall I was unimpressed food-wise, the restaurant was pretty, and service was stellar. I'll return to try more, as I'm not ready to write them off considering they have such a loyal following. read more

Not only could Gourmandise in Draper not find my advance order after 40 minutes of me waiting this evening, the merchant then didn't have any of the desserts I ordered for my family's Valentine's treats. We had an almost identical experience just this past Christmas, too, at the Draper location. I worked 12 hours today, then hurried over after work to pick up an order I placed weeks ago, only to leave empty handed. You singlehandedly ruined my week and my Valentine's plans. After 24 years of enjoying Gourmandise over so many holidays and birthdays, I am calling it quits. What a tremendous disappointment you've become as a business. Went there on a Saturday early afternoon. It was not busy at all. We were ready to order the pastry, and the cashier asked us if we want to sit down or to go. We don't mind either way. She said that if we want to dine in, we need to get a table. She asked us to find someone to get a table for us, so we walk out from the queue and tried to find someone. But there is no one that we can see at the entrance or near the tables. When we need to go back to the cashier, she was taking the order from someone else so we have to wait for our turns again. When it's our turn, we were a little pissed, we said that we want it to go and we ate in the car. As to the pastry, they are too sweet. Wonder if it is Americanized coz French pastries are not so sweet. I had them a few times in the store in downtown, and liked them there more. This is literally the best thing I've eaten in Utah yet, hands down, no comparison. Sweet, buttery, flaky, pastry of deliciousness that makes you wonder how you missed out on trying this for as long as you have. Gourmandise has restored my faith that Utah can actually produce decent food, their Croissants are airy, buttery, and just perfection. Their desserts are phenomenal, and really you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. For those who balk at the price, try making these pastries at home, you can't. The skill required is worth it's weight in gold and I will gladly pay whatever the price for their delicious pastries. We visited for brunch. We were seated outside. The table wasn't wiped down, no napkins, utensils or condiments (salt,pepper,ketchup). After the server brought our food we waited for utensils. After the server returned he didn't notice the entire party staring at our food. We then asked you utensils that took another 5 minutes to be delivered. We had to ask multiple times for condiments. The food was overall bland a they didn't bring syrup for one of our party's French toast. The server was not attentive and in the end we had piles of dirty dishes that weren't cleared. We arrived shortly after 11:00 for lunch and were seated promptly. Service was quick and efficient. Halfway through our meal I noticed a line to be seated for lunch.
