The cutest little cafe and bakery nestled in the same parking lot as Caputo's! We had just finished shopping at Caputo's and needed coffee for our drive home. Carlucci's was conveniently next door. Upon entering the bakery, we were greeted with a smile and the fragrance of freshly-baked bread. The coffee was reasonably priced and quite strong, perfect for our long drive ahead. Alas I did not take any photos, but I went with a blackberry lavender latte while my husband went with their cold brew. We even bought a cannoli to bring home, and it survived perfectly during the drive. We eagerly devoured it the next day and it paired beautifully with our charcuterie from Caputo's. I would love to try more bakery items from Carlucci's the next time we visit SLC! read more

This place is so cute and offers a wide variety of baked goods. From fresh loaves of bread, baguettes, cookies, pies, and more. The service was quick and the workers are friendly. They do get busy during the busy lunch hour. Located right next to Caputo's, you can get a fresh sandwich here as well. They have inside dining and seating. I ordered the blueberry lemon bar and one of their cookies. The prices were reasonable. Would recommend if you're in the mood for a sweet treat downtown. read more

This place hits all the marks and is a hidden gem in SLC. Absolutely delicious bread and pastries. The sandwiches were fresh and came out super fast. Coffee was perfect and the atmosphere was so relaxed, we were able to sit by the window and enjoy ourselves for an hour without feeling rushed. I went on a Tuesday morning when the bakery opened, hoping to get a fresh-made Black and White cookie. Unfortunately they were still serving the B&W's from the prior Saturday, cold and in plastic wrap. B-side: strong dark chocolate flavor. W-side: very mellow tasting. In terms of texture, it had the feel/taste of "magic shell." The cookie was very thin and both frosting were essentially folded from the top side to the bottom side. One Yelper said they it just like Nona used to make, but I prefer the NY/CA style. All of that said, I did enjoy my thin B&W cookie snack. Terrific little café with some of the friendly service you're going to get anywhere, and an endless variety of delicious sweet treats to dazzle your eyes and tempt your taste buds. I went in there for lunch and got the baked tofu sandwich. Although the line was long and the seating limited, once I ordered I got my food right away. We have visited Carlucci's probably a dozen times during our travels to SLC while visiting family. The food is always amazingly delicious and fresh. Their coffee is killer, the seating is comfy and their staff is friendly and efficient. BUT...they outdid themselves this time. My wife called to order a wedding cake for our daughters wedding (She lives in Utah but we are in Texas) so the logistics were tricky. My wife worked with Teressa and she was AMAZING. Not only did she make a perfect cake that tasted incredible but she also lets us borrow her cooler. She went above and beyond time and time again. We have always loved Carlucci's but Teressa gave us yet another reason to love them even more! Cant wait to visit again soon. read more

I went in to pick up a few desserts and stayed for a cappuccino and muffin. The coffee was delicious. The muffin was full of ripe blueberries, I was very happy with the service. Carlucci's is located next to my favorite SLC shop, Caputo's, and while I've recently found myself there nearly weekly, had not yet managed to make my way in to Carlucci's. This is no doubt due to the myriad sweets and sandwiches available at their neighbor, and while you certainly should always (ALWAYS) stop by Caputo's, Carlucci's deserved some attention prior to now. Ah well, better late than never! It is a smallish space, but they have decent seating available inside, and while the focus appears to be the baked goods, they also offer café-style meals such as sandwiches, salads, and soup. Paired with local Café Ibis coffee and a pleasant sun-streamed interior, I could see this being a nice spot to spend some time working or with friends. Mismatched old-fashioned plates and bowls charmingly displayed the many sweets in the pastry case, ranging from cookies, bars and brownies to tarts, cakes, and pastries, flan, and breads. They even have dog biscuits! I kept it simple and chose a cellophane wrapped slice of chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, and black and white cookie. The cake was fine, good even, but nothing extraordinary. The cookie was a surprise delight: tender, with firm, but not too hard icing, the chocolate side very rich, the white tinged with a pleasing touch of lemon. Parking in the area is not great, though fine during less popular times. Otherwise, you may have to hunt for a spot along the street and trek a bit. Prices are average. The experience would have been quite positive, save for the lackluster assistance I received from a near surly young woman who did little to hide her dissatisfaction at the injustice of serving me, and my interruption of her snack time. If I had dined in that would have knocked them down to three stars, but as my interaction was limited, I will give them the benefit of the doubt, and hope this was a one-time/bad day sort of situation. TL;DR-Not an amazing bakery, but above average. read more

I'm a horrible person because I didn't love this place. The location is beautiful and I love the feel of it (like you're down town in NYC at a cute Cafe vibe) but the food was mediocre at best. I ordered the focaccia bread, brownie and biscuit cookie to dip in my coffee. The down low is the focaccia tasted old and it was sitting out in a basket (probably dried out) it was also $2 dollars so I personally could have gotten better at Einstein's... But I like supporting locally. Then brownie tasted like a generic brownie and I don't mean to put so much hate...but when coming from a bakery I feel like the food has to have a little more umpf up it's stature. You just want to buy one of everything! The glass display showcases a bunch of bite sized pastries, petite tarts, sliced cakes, and tea cookies! I ended up grabbing a couple of almond tarts and a petite fruit basket. The almond tart has a hint of the almost paste in it. I'm sure if I warmed it up a bit, it would taste better. The petite fruit basket is to DIE for! The fruit topping, creamy custard and the flaky crust makes this pastry a winner! I also ordered the napoleon and it's very sweet. I was so excited to try this place and than i became disappointed. I tried a mini cupcake, cutest unicorn cookie, and a slice of carrot cake. The cupcake was moist and was ok for being white cake, the frosting however was nasty, tasted like they used old butter. I know what buttercream frosting is made out of but all i could taste was old butter. Nasty. The unicorn cookie was so cute I was expecting to taste rainbows but it tasted like a stale burnt unicorn instead. The carrott cake was the best out of the three, very mild carrot flavor, frosting was good, good chunks of nuts and raisins but the cake was way sugary. The garlic herb and goat cheese sandwich is AMAZING. I hadn't tried Carluccis, but decided to try it out after I had realized I ate at Caputos daily and wanted something new, and now I go there almost daily! They have amazing pastries, all of their salads are delicious (my coworkers love the Cobb salad, but all are great). It's a wonderful vision, colored by scones, croissants, muffins, gooey sticky buns with pecans, sour cream coffee cake, apple strudel, brownies with walnuts and ganache, lemon bars, eclairs, napoleons, chocolate cake, vanilla bean cheesecake, fresh fruit tarts, almond tarts, carrot cake, chocolate raspberry cake, mocha cake, and Tiramisu. I've worked near Gateway for years and only recently did I rediscover Carlucci's. I had a few bad lunches from Caputos and I think I had written off this general area for food. However, in the last few months I've eaten at Carlucci's several times and the food has been excellent. They have really tasty flavor combinations and their food is always well prepared. Their last few soups of the day have been savory squashes with the perfect amount of heat. Plus, you can get a legitimately good coffee drink. Not just good coffee for a bakery. The worst part of eating at Carlucci's is surviving the gauntlet that is their bakery case. Everything in their case looks divine and it feels criminal to walk away without a treat. Sometimes I resist and others I cave. My waste line may regret the choice, but my tastebuds never do. read more

Popped in here for dessert with friends when we were at the Farmer's Market across the street. While we didn't try everything in the case, we did get a couple of items each, put them in the middle of the table, and called it a free-for-all. Not a loser in the bunch. From the ganache brownie, to the cookies (black and whites, as I recall?) and even the lemon bars. All top notch. My favorite pick was what they call Decadence--a flourless chocolate cake. Very rich, so either you love it, or don't. I loved it. Seating is a little tight on Saturday morning, but we still managed to find a table inside for four of us plus a stroller. Tables also available out on the sidewalk. I haven't tried the actual mealtime food, but with so many yummy treats right in my face, I'm not sure I'd have the willpower to say "soup" before saying "sticky buns"! read more

Stopped into Carlucci's on a whim today because I had just browsed Tony Caputo's and decided that I wasn't interested in their sandwiches. I wanted to get a few pastries for me and my son to split, but then decided to try a sandwich as well. The server told me the Turkey Bacon Avocado is probably their most popular, but when I asked about their garlic herb goat cheese sandwich he told me that that one is his favorite and inspired me to try it! I wish I had ordered a whole one because MAN IT IS AMAZING. I'm not a huge tomato fan, but the tomatoes in this sandwich WORK and the whole thing is just fabulous from beginning to end. I will definitely be back to order it again. The pastries we tried (lemon ricotta cookie, florentine cookie, mini amond tart, and the mini fruit tart) were just okay, but that sandwich put this little bakery on the map for me, big time. There are quite a few hotels within walking distance which charge $10-20 for their breakfast, but you can walk here and get a fantastic homemade breakfast for $9. Yuck is what I have to say about this place. Please Don't ruin a cookie by adding strange herbs to it. My office tried it. We would take votes and we would spit them out. not good at all.
