This was our second visit to Gourmet Burger Bistro and we were looking forward to our meal. We were seriously impressed the first time and were looking forward to an equally enjoyable experience. My wife went with the Napa Valley Burger, which came loaded with bold flavors--creamy brie, sweet fig jam, and crispy onions all layered on a juicy patty. She's not one for gushing, but I got a solid "this is really good" out of her, which speaks volumes. I went the custom route with a turkey burger from the Build-a-Burger menu. Turkey patties can go either way--dry or forgettable--but this one was moist, well-seasoned, and didn't play second fiddle to the beef options. The brioche bun held up nicely. Continuing to keep things simple, we decided that the meal was enough and just ordered two coffees for dessert. The coffee arrived piping hot and smooth--not an afterthought like you get at some places. Finally, things are pricey but worth every bite! What really sealed the deal was our waitress. Friendly, attentive, and just the right amount of chatty. She made sure everything came out just right, checked in without hovering, and had great timing with the check. All in all, this spot blends gourmet creativity with comfort food vibes. If you're into burgers done right--with options to match your mood--this place is a must-visit. Be careful about parking, the spots directly across the way from the restaurant are metered. If these are not free, continue straight and the municipal lot will be in front of you. Service was outstanding! Came with a large group, was told they could accommodate all 25 people. We were split between high tops and lower tables. This was extremely awkward, but the delicious and reasonably priced food made up for it. Would not recommend it for a group that size with older people and small kids, but I'd go back with a smaller group. read more

Service was excellent. Food was mostly pretty good. I had calamari (pretty good) and boneless wings (buffalo and I would not order them again). I also had the portobello goat cheese burger and it was very good. I ordered medium and it was medium well so will order medium rare next time. Friends had regular burgers and liked them. Plus one spinach salad with chicken on top that was raved about. Ambiance is ok. At the end of the day you can get a very good meal with excellent service at a reasonable price in downtown PJ so that's not bad at all. We will return for sure. read more

I ordered takeout so I have to give it another shot with eat in. I will update the review then. It was decent burger nothing special. I got the burger with the goat cheese and portobello mushroom. I ordered it rare . It was medium. Next time I go I will not get the brioche bun (way too much bread and it tasted kind of stale. The lettuce is cut in a weird way (either gave the whole leaf or shred it finely) they were in the middle of whole leaf and shred lol really not appealing that way. So maybe this isn't fair bc it was takeout. So I will give it another shot, and avoid the brioche bun and eat in. Overall not a bad fancy burger, but not great read more

Emma was super nice and I felt bad sending things back inside and tried to reassure it was not her fault the food wasn't up to part. The wings had no seasoning at all. The flavor was the spicy sauce. Burger Bistro was an interesting experience, the service took awhile. A waitress came over relatively quick, however everything after took a long time. We waited about 45 minutes for the entrees to come out, all the food tasted great and was presented well. The waitress we had was pleasant and was doing her best, she was prompt and brought us everything we needed, the food also came out exactly as we ordered it. The ambiance of the restaurant was a similar to that of a pub and had a grungy look to it, they sat us at a large table with plenty of room. Finally we order dessert which took another 30 minutes to arrive and was by far the worst part of the experience. We ordered bread pudding, the brookie sundae and the molten lava cake. All three desserts came with whipped cream which ended up being sour, were not sure if the whipped cream was expired or just left out for too long but we informed the waitress and she just apologized and said she'd look into it. The bread pudding and brookie sundae were otherwise fine however the molten lava cake was a complete let down. As shown in the picture the lava cake was about the size of a Little Bites brownie and didn't have any hot fudge inside. We probably won't be returning but it's definitely worth a one time try if you're looking to have a good burger. I would stop there and avoid the dessert. read more

I visited this restaurant when I went to Port Jefferson. The Buffalo Wings were good and the Bistro Burger was delicious. The burger was well prepared and each topping completed it even more. I enjoyed my burger with the potatoes. I wasn't impressed with the Cajun Fries and it was over seasoned. I enjoyed my drink that I ordered. I had the Irish Lemonade. It was very tasty and I was satisfied with my meal and the drink. The customer service was nice and the waitress was very attentive. The restaurant wasn't crowded and they placed nice music. A handful of us got there right before the kitchen was closing. Generally, I never want to enter a restaurant right before the kitchen is closing , as I feel it's insulting to the workers. Had the BEST veggie burger here. I love that they have an extensive menu of their own burgers, or the option to build your own with different types of buns, sauces, cheeses, etc. you can upgrade your fried onions for a large variety of different sides including steamed veggies or roasted potatoes. I topped my veggie burger with mozzarella and pesto aioli and asked for a sesame bun. We went on a Saturday night around 6 it was definitely busy but there was zero wait time for the table. Note there were definitely a number of small children there. Even the bar area was popping. Excellent burgers we tried the jalapeño jack and the bacon jack. Both superb ingredients in the meat and toppings on the side to arrange however you please. For apps we also got the side Cesar which accidentally came out as a full on dinner salad, lettuce fresh, croutons hard and thick Cesar dressing on the side. I don't know what happened to this restaurant, but it isn't good. Had the smash chicken burger taco my 1st visit and it was delicious. Had it again 2nd visit and not as good. 3rd visit decided to try a burger from their extensive burger menu. I ordered the goat cheese & portabello mushroom burger and it was blah. The fried string onions were great the 1st time and not edible the 3rd time because they were over cooked and dry. The hostess was covering as a waitress and there was a long wait for service even though the place wasn't crowded. I fear this restaurant won't be around much longer, and I won't be back. read more

I washed my food down with a beer flight that featured Lexington Brewing's "Kentucky Vanilla Barrel Cream Ale", Revolution Brewing's "Needs More Flair" (Pale Ale), Newburgh Brewing's "MegaBoss IPA", and DuClaw Brewing's "Sweet Baby Jesus!" It was pretty busy when we arrived, but we only had to wait 5 minutes so the turnaround seems fast. The restaurant is clean and it had a little rustic feel. We ordered chicken sliders for the kids, A spinach and feta chicken burger, a build your own plant burger and a Cuban burger. The burgers and chicken sandwiches were amazing, delicious! The fries were a little over done and don't come with the burger, so you have to order a side for the table. The service could have been better. The burgers here are great, the atmosphere is nice, the service not so much. I really enjoyed the Triple Smoked Burger and got a nice craft beer to go with it. The bartender, however, was standing in the corner on her phone for most of the meal and never offered another drink or checked in on us after the food came out. Although being my favorite kind of burger it was not my favorite GBB burger. That crown goes to the Triple smoked burger. Great range of flavor and something I can always fall back on. As much as I enjoy the food I am not a fan of their prices. When paying $15-17 for a burger (before adding toppings) it should most definitely come with fries. We had late lunch on a summer Friday and were quickly seated. The server was genuinely friendly and accommodating. They had an extensive menu but we settled on milkshake, salt and vinegar fries, a Bistro Burger, cheeseburger mac and cheese. Overall I had to bring home the remaining fries because they were that good and the portion was large. The Bistro burger with a side of onion rings I rate 8 out of 10. The milkshake was delicious. The mac and cheese was probably a 6. I would definitely be back to try other items on the menu! read more

Really liked this place, except for the fact that they charge extra $2.50 to substitute mixed veggies for the mound of fried onion strings that come on the side. Other than that, the service was good, my food came pretty quickly & was cooked exactly the way I like. There's a choice of burger meats, incl beef, bison, chicken, turkey, veggie burger and even a vegan option. You also get a choice of bun, out of 3 options. The menu has a nice extensive list of different types of burgers. I ordered the Sweet Onion Burger. I exchanged the gruyere cheese for pepperjack cheese. It had onions in it. You also have a choice of buns. I chose the brioche bun. They made it rare, just to my liking! The burger was smaller than some other burger places I've gone to. Instead of fries I had steamed veggies. I tried my husband's fingerling potatoes which were better LOL! We also split a side of lobster mac and cheese which was bursting with flavor. It was creamy and there were chunks of fresh lobster in it. Probably one of the best I've had. Our waitress was the only issue I had with the place. Now I had to go and do it. I had to wait so long to review an awesome place that I forgot some important details. I can't remember our wonderful waitress's name or what was on tap (wait, I took a picture of that one). Well, either way, what's most important is that I eek this thing out because Gourmet Burger Bistro needs some lingual love. Way back (okay, maybe just a month or two ago) I ventured here with my girlfriend and a couple of our chums as one of them stated that GBB was like the "steakhouse" of burger places. He's not too far off from that statement. I mean, I think what he meant was the variety and quality were rather amazing. I'll say I haven't been to a burger spot with as many options as GBB had in quite some time. As for the taste? Not the best ever, but definitely something mouth watering-ly memorable. Diving in more specifically to the experience, we dined at a corner table in GBB which does what it can with its rather small interior. It's still relatively cozy with a bar that holds a solid selection of suds. With that in mind, I totally had to dial up a flight (which they offer) to compliment my meaty morsels. Well, before the main meats arrived, our table dined on chicken avocado spring rolls (incredibly delicious), garlic fries (that left us stinky yet satisfied), and loaded mac and cheese (which was packed with gooey goodness). On to the beef! I went with the triple smoked burger which consisted of a patty mixed with chipotle in adobo sauce and topped with grilled red onion, avocado, bacon, cilantro, and a smoked chipotle sauce. Yowza! This burger had some nice heat to it and came together with plenty of flavor. A side of onion strings complimented each plate and helped to round out the dinner. From all that, I sit on the fence of a 4.5 star review. Everything went accordingly, the service was wonderful, pricing was decently fair, and yet I can't say I felt 5 stars...okay, yes I can. Overall, in thinking back over the experience, I'd say Gourmet Burger Bistro stands out among other spots trying to do similar things. They have a great menu that's backed up with quality food items (most importantly, burgers!). For us, things were nearly perfect, and so a return trip (whenever I end up in Port Jeff) is most definitely in order. Now hopefully I don't wait too long like I did to write this review! read more

This place did not disappoint! The location is great, nestled in a charming part of town. The restaurant itself is small but cozy, with a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. I started off with the pigs in a blanket and they were delicious - a fun and unique twist on a classic appetizer. I also tried the red chili pepper wings and they were some of the best wings I've ever had in some time! They had just the right amount of spice and were cooked to perfection. For my main dish, I ordered a burger with a side of sweet potato fries. The burger was juicy and flavorful, and the fries were perfectly crispy. I had a Tito's mojito which was refreshing and the perfect complement to the meal. The prices were reasonable for the quality of the food and the location. Went in on a Saturday night. It was fairly busy when we arrived around 7:45, we were the last ones in the dining area about 9:30 though and they were sweeping up around us. Booth seating in the back needs reupholstering. Metal chairs look more like outdoor furniture. Our waitress wasn't ultra knowledgeable or thorough but she was nice. Fried pickles were spear style and the batter wasn't fully baked on. Asked for well done and it came out with pink so it went back. Onion strings that came with the burger weren't very appetizing, thankfully we ordered fries separate. No specialty coffees.
