I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly Michelle responded, and we were able to confirm everything that same day. For an additional cost, I also booked a trial session with her, and I'm so glad I did! I immediately fell in love with her work and was so impressed by how professional, talented, and attentive she was. I actually forgot to bring an inspiration photo to my trial, but that wasn't a problem at all. Michelle knew exactly how to create the look I was going for--natural but still pronounced enough for photography. She really understood how to enhance my features without making the makeup feel too heavy or overdone. What I truly appreciated about Michelle was how comfortable she made me feel throughout the entire process. While she was doing my makeup, we chatted and got to know each other, and conversation with her was so easy and natural. By the end of the session, I honestly felt like I had known her for over a decade! As for the makeup itself, I absolutely loved it. She gave me a beautiful, dewy complexion while covering all of my blemishes and still making my skin look natural. For my eyes, she used reddish-brown tones and added a touch of shimmer to the inner corners, which really brightened and opened up my eyes. After I set up my appointment and sent her a picture of my prom dress, she knew immediately what kind of makeup would work best and come out perfectly in photos. I was apprehensive at first about getting my makeup done because some of my friends' makeovers from MAC were definitely not to my tastes. I was mostly worried that the makeup would turn out too dark and heavy. But, I worried for nothing because Estela's work is simply flawless! I especially love the way she did my eyes and brows - the glitter made my eyes pop out in photos, and the brows are on fleek. While she was doing my makeup, she put me completely at ease. She's very friendly and sweet, and thanks to her, my first professionally done makeup experience was great. And since I got my makeup done in the morning, Estela gave me some powder and lips for touchups later in the day, which I definitely appreciated. Always had to get it done for school dances and didn't buy my own (except the powder I would buy in junior high just to feel cool) until 3rd year of college when I was prepping for interviews for internships and my roommate took me to the bare escentuals at the mall. Working full-time, my makeup is super simple, and fades (I gradually stop wearing it because when you're a CPA and working long hours, you stop caring). But I needed my makeup done for a photo session for my Save the Dates, and having seen Estela's work on facebook, I got to learn how professional she is. Her work station is clean, organized, sanitized and expansive. I'm Asian so I don't have the double eye lid fold, so that's always a test for makeup artists since many times its not what they are used to. But Estela did a great job. My always critical mom thought it was too dramatic but you have to for a camera. At the end of the day, I did think my eyebrows were a little darker than I anticipated but if I had known what I wanted, Estela would have been able to adjust/accommodate my eyebrows for me. But I thought I looked good in her chair, so that's on me IMHO. I would definitely recommend her even if I didn't know her from high school.

Unfortunately, bridal showers tend to cater to one ethnicity versus others, and I could not get just any makeup artist. I looked through Denise's portfolio, got her contact information, and looked through her website for a few days. I eventually emailed her to possibly sign a contract. She was very sweet, always answered all of my questions and answered them in a very timely manner, and there were no hidden fees: the contract was very exact. For example, I would pay for parking fees, which is completely understandable. She only provided on-site service instead of a salon. And she could also provide other on-site services if requested beforehand. So, I put in a 50% deposit at the time of signing the contract, and requested a trial session around 4 months before the wedding. She was on-time for the trial session, took a few minutes to set-up, and was ready to go. The trial session calmed me down and I was very confident of her abilities for the wedding. She absolutely knew what to do to make me look beautiful. I paid the full amount of my balance a few weeks before the wedding. She received it without any issue when I mailed in the payment. The day of the wedding, she was on-time. As my hotel wasn't very easy to find, this meant that she gave herself ample time to find the hotel. That's what professionalism is all about. She had to do my maid-of-honor's hair and makeup, my hair and makeup, and my now-mother-in-law's hair. She did a great job on everyone, and everyone could not believe how beautiful I was at the wedding (I know it's almost like a back-handed comment...am I pretty ugly normally?). She even had a little backup kit for me to keep to help touch-up my makeup when necessary. The makeup did last for over 12 hours, with very little touch-up needed. If anything, the curl in my hair was almost gone by the 10th hour, which my bridesmaids were able to curl right back up. She was also super-patient with one of my friends, who had forgotten hairspray, and who asked to use hers. And she was super-patient with the videographer and photographer when they needed to get shots of me getting my makeup on. That sort of patience can be difficult to find. So, Denise deserves all the possible stars she can get. I have absolutely no complaints about her work, she was great to work with, and there were only high regard for her work.
