I actually ended up here last night via sleight of hand by my friend. While I was waiting in line for over an hour past our Rez at another restaurant, and they couldn't tell me how much longer, he said let's go grab some Mexican and he booked us a reservation, and we walked :5 over there and were seated immediately. I didn't know until we sat down and I looked at the menu, that it was a vegetarian restaurant, but the two friends I was with were both vegetarians and they had been here before and loved the place, but they didn't let me in on that until that moment. The styling of the decor and the ambience of this location is outstanding, I loved every bit of it. The staff was very pleasant and professional. I'm not a vegetarian, but I'm not against vegetarian food, but the menu was different than I expected when he originally said 'Mexican', so I had to shift my brain to help me figure out what I wanted to order and I ended up with the enchiladas, which were extremely tasty and the mushrooms were excellent. Personally, I don't live or spend much time on this side of the LA world, but I will highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking my advice.

Gracias madre was a unique experience for me because everything here was vegan. As a non vegan person, some of the dishes actually tasted like the flavor of meat. I got the mushrooms enchiladas , the salsa was a bit tangy for my taste but all the other dishes that I tried were pretty darn good.

The Ceviche and Nachos are so tasty!!

Mexican Plant Based Dishes were an explosion of flavor!! The Gorditas, Ceviche, and Nachos were my personal favorite. I loved the ranch sauce that came with the Sweet Potato Fries!! Let's talk about that spicy sauce, it was delicious. I am shocked at how good everything was. They interpreted Mexican cuisine in a very unique way and made everything plant based. Make sure to ask for the Spicy sauce!! ** parking I would highly recommend parking at the West Hollywood Library! **

I am not vegan and never been to a fancier vegan resturant but they had drinks so I was excited to try it and it's been on my list. Went for Happy Hour on Taco Tuesday and they had plenty of options for food, which I love. Drink specials include $8 margaritas, spicy or regular and $1 more with mazcal. It was perfectly balanced but it was not as spicy, and i like spice. I also tried the sangria and that had great tropical flavor. He said it was peach, pineapple and it tasted refreshing. For food: I got the toasta and it was presented beautiful, but the taste was a bit bland. The taco trio was $7 & looked filling for the amount of food you got. 3 small street taco sized but a lot of filling. The $10 Happy Madre Meal included a beer or a fresca and I'm glad I got the fresca. It was delicious. The meal also came with 1 bbq jackfruit slider and Chipotle garlic fries which was a decent size. The service was great and the QR code made it easy to split payment and pay without flagging the server down. The patio filled up quickly, so I suggest you go early to grab a seat and street metered parking. Overall it was a great experience.

Had a great time at this restaurant. The staff were really friendly and helped us with deciding on what to order. The food was also served in a timely manner and was delicious. Their tofu was the best part of the dish for me in Madre bowl. The ambiance was also really great with outdoor seating with trees and lights. There is plenty of street parking available near the restaurant

Great dining experience and meal! I will say, as an average person, this restaurant is on the high end of my budget. But this was a special outing made special by the quality of food, the lovely atmosphere, and the attentive service. Amazing gluten free options. They do not sacrifice flavor for dietary restrictions! The churros were a welcome surprise to the end of my savory meal. I would definitely come here again for a celebratory meal.

I recently ordered some delivery from here on a lazy day and found how much I missed the food here! It's definitely not authentic Mexican food but still hits the spot! The food is very hearty and indulgent and you can tell that everything is made with care from scratch. A lot of the menu dishes do use the same flavors and spices, but I find those to be very well done so I can't complain! On my most recent order, I got the nachos with a side of jackfruit carnitas and crispy garlic tofu. Everything was superb and had such great textures, especially the jackfruit. The nachos had the most creamy cheese sauce which left me wanting more! I felt so good after I ate everything. They packaged everything really well to keep it tasting warm and fresh when it arrived at my home. I will definitely order from the again soon, or even better, make the trek to dine in at their elegant restaurant!

A solid LA spot which has been in Weho for years, Gracias Madre has been a go-to spot for a healthier preparation of southwestern/Mexican style food with a vegetarian twist. I've had several of their dishes in the past from starting with their chips and guac and also their off cob elote as well as their quesadillas but on this last visit I had their beet salad and added the roasted chipotle tofu which was pretty satisfying. It can get a bit pricey for two people (with a few drinks the bill came out to $120 for 2 apps, 2 entrees) but the services is friendly, ambiance is beautiful on an LA evening and it's a really nice and warm place to have a good dinner on a weeknight in Weho. Parking can get a bit tricky- valet is available or try meter or street parking if you can find it!

This vegan Mexican Eatery is to die for! From the Ambiance to the food & drinks, to the service everything was impeccable! Definitely a must visit when in WeHo. We went for happy hour and deals were great. Samuel behind the bar was a gem of a human and we enjoyed chatting with him. Cheers!

Brought a vegan friend to Gracias Madre while I was living in LA, and this place did not disappoint. The food was delicious and flavorful, even for someone like me who doesn't normally go out of their way for vegan spots. Everything we tried was really well done, and the customer service was great, friendly and attentive. This place gets busy, we got there a bit earlier and there was already a line forming. And it looks like they do events too. We had walked but it looked like they did have street parking. The interior is cute with lots of natural light. It's a solid option whether you're vegan or just looking to try something different

Last time we went there was for Sunday brunch, the latte was extremely watery and tasteless. I ordered one of their bowls, and shockingly there was a piece of metal there. To me it felt like their quality has declined throughout the years. The ambiance is cozy, and their staff are friendly and fast, but again the quality has significantly declined.

Our server Helton was a delight. We were seated promptly on Mother's Day in a nice outdoor table. The chips were warm and fresh with tasty guacamole and salsa. The guac could use some brightness and tang from a squeeze of lime. The fried plantains and French fries were good. The chili Reyeno was a success. The Oaxaca bowl was too large for my 13 yr old (first world problem) and the red cabbage would greatly benefit from pickling. The Lion's mane taco and pescado were pretty tasty but not worth $26 + tax and tip (~$15 taco). The drinks were well crafted and thoughtful. Overall the vibe and the meal were special.

Where can you find a better happy hour???? My partner and I love meeting up after work to enjoy their happy hour. Before 6, there's tons of street parking on the side street. The valet takes up four meter spots which doesn't seem fair. The patios is very cute. It does it cold and they do have heaters but I'd suggest to bring layers. My partner always gets the jackfruit sliders. Today, we tried in addition to the sliders - the mushroom, jackfruit, and lentil tacos. They're all tasty but they were missing some seasoning and heat. I tasted the red onion but didn't really get other notes. The mushrooms were fried and battered. I'd still return bc we have to support West Hollywood restaurants! There's very few plant-based restaurants and the happy hour prices are affordable. The service is friendly and quick. What more could you want? I would appreciate more cocktails on the happy hour menu but that's me being greedy!

Ask the Community - Gracias Madre

What happened to their fried cauliflower dish with the cashew cheese? It's not on the menu anymore :'(

I didnt see it on the menu either!

What is the parking situation like?

They have valet available or metered street parking. Can be a little difficult on the weekends!

    Is the food spicy overall?

Mild spice but they're very happy to remove any spicy ingredients. They did that for my mom. She can't handle spice at all.

Are there any outlets/would this be an ok place to bring a laptop and work for a couple of hours?

I’d say it’ll be ok to work from there during the day but not at night. Too loud and crowded.

Would this place be a good choice for a birthday brunch?

    Yes!! Cute outdoor dining

Would this be a good venue to take teenagers around 13-14yrs old?

It's a good place to get children of any age to acknowledge Vegetarian/Vegan foods and the concept that there exists a better world for all in eating this way.....No suffering or slaughter....JUST delicious foods from the earth!.......

Do you require proof of vaccination to dine indoors? Or proof of a negative test?

They didn't ask when I was there at the beginning of December

Will Gracias madre take a reservation for a party of 10?

I know that we called and got one for seven!

    Is the indoor bar open?

Yes! This is an awesome place!

Until what time is lunch? And do you have a happy hr still?

Their happy hour is currently (as of August 2021) 3-5 pm Monday-Friday.

Is everything on the menu vegan?

    Yes!

Are valid passports accepted as ID, im celebrating my birthday there and haven't received my renewed license in the mail?

    Yes

    Do they serve mimosas?

It's not on the menu but you can request one.

When will you be open for dinning inside?

Not sure .. As for me .. At this particular-time .. I'm cool on eating out .. Just want to let some more time elapse before going-out...If you get my drift... Be-Well...…

Do you recommend advance reservations, we are planning going next Wednesday for dinner (5pm or 6pm), a party of 7?

Usually not too busy during the week but I feel a reservation might help you get serviced quicker.

Is this suitable if you have a gluten allergy? Options? Celiac friendly?

From my last visit they do have option that you can modify to be suitable for any allergy. Since it's a vegan place they have options

I have an allergy to cashews, am I able to order my food without the cashew creme products?

They seem to be accommodating with leaving out ingredients upon a customer's request. They have a large and varied menu, so there's plenty to choose from, if you're looking to avoid a particular ingredient.

    Happy hour specials?

They have some during weekdays from 3 to 6pm

Can you bring dogs at night?

Yes! We allow dogs on the patio, and service dogs in the restaurant, at all hours of the day.

Do they serve meat here, or only vegan?

    Vegan only.

5/5 - Flavor-packed, thoughtful plating, and absolutely worth the visit…read more This spot delivers on both flavor and presentation. I ordered a loaded carne asada-style dish served over fresh greens, and every bite was intentional and well-balanced. The beef was deeply seasoned, tender, and slightly crisped in places, which added great texture. It was topped with a creamy, slightly tangy sauce that tied everything together without overpowering the meat. What really stood out was the attention to detail: pickled red onions for acidity, fresh greens for balance, and a side of house-made pickled vegetables that cut through the richness perfectly. The tostada-style side topped with avocado, herbs, and onions added a nice contrast--crunchy, fresh, and vibrant. You can tell the ingredients are fresh and thoughtfully prepared. Portion size was generous without feeling excessive, and the dish felt hearty yet clean. I paired it with a refreshing citrus drink that complemented the meal well and kept everything light. Overall, this is the kind of place where you can tell the kitchen cares about execution. Bold flavors, great balance, and a presentation that looks just as good as it tastes. I would absolutely come back and recommend it to anyone looking for a satisfying, well-crafted meal

This is a long-overdue post. République has been on my must-visit list of LA dining experiences for…read morequite some time. I just never realized where it was since I don't usually make it out to Hancock Park. Then one day, while I happened to be in the area, I stumbled upon it and had one of those "Wait...this is here?!" moments. You ever have one of those places you've wanted to visit forever, only to realize it was much closer than you thought? My first visit was actually for dessert after having a less-than-memorable lunch at Mish down the street. Unfortunately, I arrived later in the day and most of the pastry case had already been wiped out, leaving only a limited selection. The staff recommended the Dulce de Leche Cremadette ($6.75), and I'm glad they did. It was perfectly flaky, buttery, and sweet, with the dulce de leche tucked inside the pastry. The caramel reminded me of the caramel coating on a caramel apple. I also picked up some brownies at the staff's recommendation, and those were fantastic -- incredibly moist, rich, and delicious. Definitely a must-get. I was a little disappointed that I missed out on the majority of the pastry selection, but I was told that the pastries are made in limited batches each day and once they sell out, that's it. So if you're coming specifically for the pastries, get here early. Earlier this summer, I made the acquaintance of an OG Yelper, Joseph A., and we've been corresponding back and forth on Yelp. I happened to know that he's a regular at République, so I asked if he'd be interested in meeting me right when they opened. I figured if anyone knew what to order, it would be him. Joseph was incredibly kind and gracious enough to treat me to breakfast. I ordered his usual breakfast recommendation: the Regular Breakfast ($24), which comes with bacon steak, fingerling potatoes, a demi baguette, French butter, jam, and an egg prepared any style. Joseph went with the soft scramble, and I followed his lead. That was definitely the move. They really know how to cook eggs here. The soft scramble was absolutely divine -- creamy, delicate, and perfectly cooked. The bacon steak was a little on the salty side, but still very good. The demi baguette was excellent, especially with the French butter and jam. Honestly, I could have eaten several pieces of that baguette with the butter and jam alone. The fingerling potatoes were nicely seasoned and quite good on their own, but a few dashes of hot sauce really took them up another notch. I'll be honest: $24 is definitely on the pricey side for what you're getting, especially when you break down the individual components. That said, when you factor in the quality of the food, the setting, and the overall experience, I can understand why people are willing to pay it. We also shared several pastries, and every single one was excellent in its own right. I'm officially hooked on the pastries here. They just don't miss. Service was pretty good during my visit. One thing worth noting is that République adds a 4% surcharge to the bill to help cover healthcare for their staff. It's certainly something to be aware of when looking at the final bill. f you're looking for a quintessential LA brunch experience to take out-of-towners to, République is a great option. Just be prepared for potentially long lines, especially on weekends. I visited on a weekday morning over the summer, so I didn't personally experience the weekend crowds. My only real wait was at the pastry counter during my first visit. I've heard you can expect people lining up before they even open at 8AM, so plan accordingly. The cult following surrounding Walter and Margarita Manzke's restaurant/café is understandable. Between the food, pastries, atmosphere, and history of the building, there's a lot to appreciate here. And speaking of history, the building itself is pretty special. The property was built in 1928 by Charlie Chaplin. It became a restaurant in 1989 when chefs Mark Peel and Nancy Silverton transformed the space to open La Brea Bakery and Campanile. After Campanile closed in 2012, the building was renovated and modified to open up the space while returning it closer to the spirit of its original construction. République opened in 2013 and has been going strong ever since. Do yourself a favor and eat at République. Come for the food and pastries, but also take some time to appreciate the ambiance and the history of this incredible LA property. And whatever you do, get here early if you want the pastries. Once they're gone, they're gone! Don't walk--run to République.

The steak and eggs made it super filling, and I liked having the sweet waffle alongside the savory breakfast. I also had a red sangria, which was refreshing and paired really well with everything. My girlfriend got the Oh Wow Crispy French Toast and the All American Breakfast. The French toast was definitely a standout cinnamon swirl brioche with crème brûlée, corn flakes, berries, and Nutella. It was crispy, sweet, and loaded with toppings. The All American was a solid classic breakfast with scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, and potatoes. We also split an order of the truffled waffle fries, and those were really good. They came out crispy, well seasoned, and topped with plenty of parmesan. Definitely worth getting for the table. Service was great as well. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and attentive, and our food and drinks came out without us feeling rushed. Our server checked in on us throughout the meal and made sure we had everything we needed. The ambiance was one of my favorite parts. It has a casual, lively brunch atmosphere with an indoor/outdoor feel, plenty of natural light, and a relaxed setup that makes it a good spot for a weekend brunch or brunch date. It felt energetic without being overly formal. Overall, we left very full and happy. The portions are generous, there's a lot of variety on the menu, and the combination of good food, drinks, service, and atmosphere made for a great brunch. Definitely somewhere we'd come back to!

I feel like the food can be a little bland at times. Truffle fires are yunmy and omelettes are good. Parking sucks but everyone knows this area has poor parking in general. The space is small so it fills up fast so make a reservation or show up early: Seating is a bit crowded so I opt to always sit outside. It's a spot I go back to when I am catching up with a friend. You can trust that the food won't be bad and the place can be a vibe for a casual dining experience.

Our server, Kimi V. was also great. We tried the Shrimp Pasta (10/10, highly recommended), the Crispy Chicken Wings (10/10. They make these in a particular way, please ask them to explain it to you: the end result is fantastic), fish tacos (7/10, they're good, but I am neither a fish nor a taco person (however, I do like some good shrimp tacos). These ones in particular were plated and served so well ( they use blue corn tortilla: top-notch ingredient) and the ingredients were fresh, but maybe it was the type of fish? I don't really know, they were good, but I definitely would not order them again). Also, my friend had a coconut cold brew which he really enjoyed. Service was all around great. Ambiance was fantastic, the whole restaurant has a very upscale, chic vibe while also being unique in its own way. Even the restroom, that was super clean and well-maintained, has a very unique and interesting setup for what is the sink. All around great place, highly recommended. 10/10. UPDATE: Added names and more clarification on the fish tacos. Thank you to the GM in leaving a response. Your whole team is fantastic. I'll definitely be back.
