Alma Restaurant at The Grove in Los Angeles delivers a dining experience that feels both elevated and effortlessly welcoming. From the moment you step in, the atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between modern elegance and relaxed California charm, making it just as ideal for a special night out as it is for a casual dinner. The menu is thoughtfully curated, showcasing fresh, high-quality ingredients with a creative twist. Each dish feels intentional and beautifully presented, with flavors that are bold without being overwhelming. Whether you're enjoying one of their signature entrées or exploring smaller plates, it's clear the kitchen takes pride in both craftsmanship and consistency. Service at Alma truly stands out. The staff is attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu, and genuinely invested in making your experience memorable. Recommendations feel personalized rather than scripted, which adds to the overall warmth of the visit. What really sets Alma apart is its ability to create a complete experience. The ambiance, the food, and the service all come together seamlessly, making it more than just a place to eat--it's a place you'll want to return to. If you're at The Grove and looking for something that feels a step above the usual options, Alma is absolutely worth it.

    BAJA FISH TACOS

Dining options at the grove are generally mid and overpriced, and the farmers market eateries are hit or miss. I wanted cocktails before our movie, so the husband and I went back to Alma. I love mezcal, as you know, and the Loteria was a decent drink. Smoky, muddled fruit w/o being overly sweet. Salsa was watery and under seasoned, but the chips were nicely fried. Service was friendly but distracted. Often felt forgotten. Rice and beans were both tasty, tho added at an extra charge. The Baja tacos, served w lemon, were surprisingly flavorful, w the tang of pickled onion and crunch of slaw. The tortillas were lazily prepared and served damn near raw. All this said, for what it ultimately is, the pricing is obscene. Solid yet forgettable mall food at damn near Javier's prices.

Excellent newer restaurant at The Grove. We had ordered the steak nachos & raw tuna tacos. Both were really good choices. Service was great. Cocktails were even better, and there was no wait time. Great place for happy hour or for large parties. Will definitely be back to try out some other dishes

Great spot right in the Grove. Service was okay, it kind of felt like we had three different servers and somehow it was still difficult to find someone when you needed something. Cocktails were tasty. The starters were great the salsa and guacamole are nice shareable for larger groups. The ceviche is also full of flavor and one of the best i've tried. The birria tacos were good as well. The most notable entree was the fish, it was absolutely incredible.

Yesterday on Mother's Day, we visited ALMA Cocina de Mexico at The Grove. The place was absolutely packed. Without a reservation, it honestly looked almost impossible to get in. Thankfully, I had booked ahead, so we were seated without too much trouble. Walking inside felt like stepping into a cozy restaurant near a beach in Mexico. The warm lighting, soft atmosphere, and beautiful fresh flower arrangements made the whole space feel charming and alive. It wasn't overly flashy -- just warm, elegant, and inviting. Even the small detail of having purse hooks next to the table felt thoughtful and classy. At first, I was genuinely impressed. Then the little cracks started showing. The water glasses were heavy and beautiful, but the moment I took a sip, there was a noticeable fishy smell from the cup. It immediately made me wonder if the glasses hadn't been cleaned properly. It may sound minor, but small details like that can completely break the dining experience. We ordered French toast, oysters, and the beef & shrimp fajitas, along with mojitos. The food itself was decent. Not "life-changing amazing," but still enjoyable enough to have a pleasant meal. The real disappointment was the service. The beef & shrimp fajitas took forever to arrive. On top of that, I specifically ordered flour tortillas, but they brought corn tortillas instead. By the time they corrected the order and finally brought the flour tortillas, I was basically finished eating already. What made it worse was that no sauces were provided, and nobody even asked if we needed any. I eventually had to ask myself, and by the time the sauces arrived, the meal was practically over. Everything related to the food and service felt painfully slow. But somehow -- the second we asked for the check? It appeared almost instantly. That part honestly made me laugh a little. The food took forever, the service disappeared most of the meal, but the bill arrived at lightning speed. It almost felt like, "Okay, time to leave now." Not once did anyone mention dessert, recommend anything sweet, or ask if we wanted coffee or another drink. So we simply paid and left. Another uncomfortable part was the layout. There was a narrow walkway right beside our table, and servers constantly squeezed between tables instead of using the wider pathway nearby. While eating, people kept brushing past the table, which made the experience feel cramped and distracting. The restaurant is undeniably beautiful. The interior alone makes it feel Instagram-worthy and memorable. I could honestly see myself returning one day just for the atmosphere and aesthetics. But beautiful decor can only carry a restaurant so far. Slow food, inconsistent service, missing details, and poor pacing left a disappointing impression overall. Once was enough for the experience. I'm not sure there will be a second time.

Very disappointing experience. We were a party of 6 and were automatically charged a 20% "large party" service fee without clear disclosure, and the restaurant also applied tax to that charge. After we brought this to the manager's attention, the bill was adjusted to remove both the service charge and the tax on that charge. However, the fact that it was added in the first place felt misleading. Even worse, the service did not justify any mandatory charge. Our server came by only twice--no refills, no follow-up, and no attention to the table. Charging a mandatory 20% for that level of service is unreasonable. The food was underwhelming. The chicken fajitas were bland, the guacamole had little flavor, and overall everything was just average. The only thing worth mentioning was the tortillas. Overall, the experience fell short due to the lack of transparency and poor service, and I would not return.

I'll keep it honest, as I think that's important. The food was good and the ambiance is nice, especially being right by the fountain. It's a cool spot if you don't mind a bit of people watching, and the location near the parking entrance makes it easy to access. That said, the service could have been better. All of our food came out at once, including the appetizers, so there wasn't really any buildup to the meal. My beer was also delayed. Everyone at the table received their drinks before I did, and I had to remind them about mine. I do want to mention that the person bussing the tables stood out. He made sure we got boxes and helped move things along when it came time to get the check. Overall, the food was solid and the setting is enjoyable, but the service could use some improvement.

Me and my boyfriend came here for our anniversary and it was hands down the best service and dining experience we've ever had! The manager, Chris, setup our table very nice and continued to give us great service throughout the whole night! The food was also BOMB. We ordered the aguachiles, guacamole, and tampiquena and everything was PERFECT. Overall, i would highly recommend to come here for a special occasion!

Came here for a family birthday and left disappointed. We waited over 20 minutes to order, never got a water refill after asking, and the waiter seemed annoyed when we asked questions. We also asked for chips and salsa, and when we asked the waiter for them, she said they were not included. Everyone had chips and salsa at their tables except us. We also felt treated differently because we are Mexican, which was upsetting at a Mexican restaurant.

We were visiting the Grove around lunch time and walked in this spot without a reservation. Didn't have to wait and got seated at a table upstairs. The gentleman helping our table was friendly with overall good service. We did find ourselves with our water cups empty and finding someone to fill our cups. We ordered guac with chips in addition to three different tacos. Among the three we ordered, the shrimp was quite good. The carne asada and fish tacos were in line with similar places we've visited. The guacamole was fresh. Well decorated location and conveniently located in the Grove. Good for small and large groups.

Chris the manager and brian the bartender are the best! Very attentive, friendly, and professional. Will Come Back soon.

Food was sooo amazing , had a wonderful Sunday waiter Brandon was helpful and sooo great !

First time here ... So happy we chose... Food was absolutely delicious atmosphere was clean , lively. Waiter Brandon was amazing!! And so attentive!! Definitely will come here again ! Sooooo goood.

We went to the Grove last night because my baby wanted to see the "snow." We didn't have too much time before the next spewing of it, so we decided to go to Alma, so that we'd have a nice view of the whole Christmas scene, lights, tree and fountains As insanely packed as the Grove was, I really was expecting a wait. To my surprise, the hostess, who was notably congenial, was able to seat us immediately, on the outside patio, where we would have a great view of the snow coming down. I had the Caesar salad with chicken. It was decent, not totally fantastic, but a large portion. For me, more than enough to take home and have a whole meal the next day. Also ordered: Cheese enchiladas (tasted them and they were incredible!) and chicken tinga tacos with rice and beans. They have a bit of a tag team system so the service was attentive, but our main server Kevin was very special. Welcoming, down to earth--super charming. My husband complimented him on the spot, he was so stellar. I don't go to the Grove regularly, but in the past, I remember the food being hit or miss. Alma was a very pleasant surprise.

I came here for dinner on a week night and my experience here was pretty good. I had the asada and al pastor tacos with all the toppings and they were both so good and full of meat and heat. The toppings can be spicy for some, so be warned. My favorite of the two was the all pastor which was flavorful and I did like the thinly shaved meat. It was not dry at all and was fresh. I also tried the mulita with al pastor meat and that was also soso good. Cheesy, meaty, and indulgent. The additional topping section had good variety with pickled onions, cucumbers, etc. and everything seemed pretty fresh. Unfortunately, they were pretty much out of the roasted pepper and grilled onions at the time I went. To drink, I had the horchata and that was also very delicious. It was huge, sweet, and creamy. gotta get the chorizo and asada y chorizo mixto. not sure if they usually chop up the chorizo, but…read morethey were very kind towards the end of the night and just gave us the whole pieces. worked out well bc it's a lot less crumbly and super meaty! the workers here are always friendly and get a kick out of my spanglish lol. ambience is casual and smoky. parking is a little tough but doable in the neighborhood / main street. we like salsa on the side bc it tends to be pretty spicy. no restroom, but the laundromat next door is open late and is a quarter to use the restroom. def in the top 2 la taco spots for me! happy i came back and gave it another try after my spicy first experience years ago. :)

The tostada was very hard and chewy thought I was going to brake a tooth. Asada meat and guacamole on the tostada had no salt. The only thing I was able to taste was the spicy salsa, which it's extremely spicy. My chorizo taco cold and the mulita was okay. Tortillas hand made which that's a plus Agua fresca de pineapple tasted water down too much just tasted the water with hint of pineapple. If you new to this place just know that you can ask for frijoles de la olla on the side they are free. I did like that they had grill onions and it's self serve. Street parking available, but know area not the best to be in. Tables have about 3 incase you planning eat there, & if super hungry know you will be waiting for a long time. It's really cool know it's a tire shop during the day and a taco shop in evenings. This place is very laid back attired unfortunately no music playing.

I was looking for a taco spot with good reviews in the area and stumbled upon this gem of a taco…read morestand in the side of the road. These were truly the epitome of street tacos and absolutely nothing about the vibe, the service, and the FOOD, disappointed. Immediately upon arrival, I noticed the long line of people and said to myself, either this place is really good or really slow. It took me longer to decide what I wanted to try than what it took for the line to move and for it to be my turn to order. So yea, these folks are FAST and very courteous as well. They have real Al Pastor on the trompo (the spit) so of course I ordered pastor tacos and a pastor mulita. I also ordered a few SUADERO tacos which you don't find just anywhere. I am still raving about the amount of meat and flavor of the food here, it's insanely delicious. Once you get your food you make your way down to the end of the taco stand where you are met with an amazing array of fresh taco fixings and salsas. The pink creamy-habanero was the best and the green/red salsas followed right behind. I can't wait to go back to this place. It's mind blowing how a stand on the side of the road puts out better quality food than a brick/mortar taco shop..but these guys know exactly what they are doing and it was a pleasure to try their food. 20 out of 10 for this place.

I do like how they grill their meat though and they use the tortillas to scoop up the meat on the grill. Thought the al pastor was a bit salty and the cheese did not add much flavor to it, but that's probably a good thing considering the saltiness of the meat. Also, make sure you ask them for pineapples since they did not include it until we asked. They do have them sliced up in a container by the meats. Ambience is very casual and it's a stand while eating type of situation. Service was quick.
