Decent dinner spot offering all the breakfast food you might crave for. I really wanted the egg sandwich and it didn't disappoint, but it could use a slice of cheese in it. I also wanted a waffle and I was able to get both and create my own place for a fair price. The waffle doesn't look like much but was perfectly fluffy. The restaurant is quite loud but nicely decorated and the service is fast. This is not a place you plan on staying for long. You eat you go. Gracie's is a comfort food experience reminding me of old-fashioned diners growing up. Staff were welcoming with ample seating, tables are close together but somehow managed to accommodate all kinds of diners well - groups, couples, solo diners. The ambiance was lively but so much so it felt private within tables and everyone seemed to have a good time. The food itself is fine - definitely not spectacular but perfectly reliable and is filling. The potato home fries were cooked crispy though lightly seasoned. The scrambled eggs were cooked a bit too much but tasty! Hot chocolate with whipped cream was sweet with strong cocoa flavor. Pancakes were soft though though only got a few syrup to share. Finally for the rye toast was also fine, nothing to write home about. Overall a solid diner experience and accomplishes just that with reasonable prices. read more

IT is said that first impressions are everything. If this morning's experience was representative, I cannot recommend this establishment. In a hurry, I dropped in for a simple bagel and cream cheese and a cuppa joe. First the positive..the coffee was quite good . Sorry I can't say the same for the bagel. I am no bagel snoot, but having lived in NYC all my life, I can say with some confidence that I have tried dozens of places, diners and bagel specialty shops. The horrible excuse for a bagel which I was served was shameful. It was not even up to the low quality usually found on a grocery store shelf (pre-baked and shipped) or the random street-side vendor. I sat there regretting I didn't stroll down the street to Tal, (one of the best, if not the best, bagel places in town IMHO) but I was in a rush to get to the office, so I took the easy route. To my regret. I've had diner bagels before, some good, some less so. This one was just unmentionably sad. The service was also indifferent. read more

We just wanted classic diner food but instead received watery eggs, mushy potatoes, and criminally sloppy corned beef. Go across the street or down a block if you want good food. The coffee was delightfully bad. It reminded me of a sad office job I had in undergrad, where we'd brew the cheapest coffee we could find and drown it in the cheapest creamer we could find. If that's enticing, this is your place. The corned beef hash was the consistency of moist refried beans, or perhaps more akin to a chicken pot pie -- or canned dog food you'd buy for a geriatric dog you low-key hate. I actually had to look up what corned beef hash was after trying Gracie's, genuinely uncertain whether this is just how it's normally served. It isn't. Corned beef hash is savory, crispy, delicious... This "dish" was little bits of ground beef and potatoes mixed with what may have been instant-potato mix. No appreciable salt, no real texture, no savory flavor. Honestly, I'm unsure what I was served. The waiter, who was efficient and kind, assured us that this was indeed the intended texture and that nothing appeared incorrect with the dish. I asked to order some sausages (which were perfectly fine), as the corned beef was simply inedible. The waiter promptly returned and did not charge us for the sausages. Overall, I don't recommend this place, and we will only return if we need a devilish fantasy-football punishment. read more

Appreciate the big menu, ranging from breakfast, pancakes, burgers, and wraps. Food might be average but does have that familiarity feeling to it. The beef hash was nicely seasoned; eggs and fries pretty standard. The wraps have all the essentials to it. Recently, three family members and I ate lunch at Gracie's Diner. It was a lot of fun! Loved the old school, comforting vibe, unmistakable NYC ambiance and roomy seating (for Manhattan). I ordered the Chicken Souvlaki Sandwich Deluxe, which was served with a Greek salad and fries. Everything was delicious, and tbh, I was so hungry that I forgot to take any food photos! Sorry, y'all ~ will, hopefully, add them the next time I go back! Post lunch, I ordered a cup of decaf coffee with oat milk, which was lovely. The wait staff was very kind and so attentive. Our main waiter returned with a cup of fresh coffee (with oak milk), before I even asked for it! All in all, Gracie's Diner comes highly recommended, especially if you're looking for a more casual, family-friendly place on the UES. Would you get up at 3am just for a date? Had a Thursday 9am appt for wife and I to meet NYC Elite Yelper Marianne W at Gracie's on 2nd Diner. Wednesday had woken up at 4am to catch a 7am flight from San Francisco. Thursday went to sleep at 9pm, and woke up at 8:22am. Holy s---, took a taxi to get to Gracie's on 2nd Diner from our timeshare 3 miles away. Almost had a heart attack when saw a Gracie's on the corner of 86nd and 1st windows boarded up! Met Marianne who was manning the fort, sitting at a booth for 4 for 10 minutes, despite the poor vibes from the staring waitress. Boss doesn't like people holding down unoccupied seats. Turned out Marianne had gotten up at 3am, exercised on the stationary bike and washed and dried her hair for the occasion. Pretty ordinary diner, overlooking a busy street. I thought Marianne's $17 three 8.5" chocolate chip pancakes were way overpriced even for Manhattan. My wife Janeen had a better deal with her $17 single waffle covered by two over easy eggs. You know the portions are small when extra small Marianne can finish the entire three pancakes Marianne was looking with envy as I devoured my $20 Southern burger, with a half pound patty cooked medium covered with lettuce, tomatoes, well cooked bell peppers, sauteed onions, and sweet bbq sauce, all those things she couldn't eat. Not much flavor from the lettuce nor the unripened sliced tomato. But the mountain of well cooked green bell peppers and onions hit the spot. Could have eaten the onions raw, and bbq sauce was on the mild side, not at all spicy. Came with a toasted roll and fries which seemed unsalted. Will have to remember to pay extra for sweet potato fries, a weakness of Marianne's. Service is good. Afterwards, Marianne commented that it was nice to be able to talk to friends of her own age. Fifth time in the past 6 years that we've met in NYC . Nobody in their right mind would come here in the spring of 2020, the center of the pandemic with a peak of 700 dead per week in NYC. In May 2023, I was missing a front tooth, when a crown on a root canal tooth broke. Seated immediately although it was a busy Saturday morning for brunch. Got a great window seat. Large menu with lots of breakfast & brunch options. Items reasonably priced. I ordered the Fresh Vegetarian omelet and my boyfriend ordered the California omelet. They have $10 drink specials for brunch. We both got the grapefruit mimosa. The food was bland, but okay. Nothing special...toast is barely toasted and no salt is used in the kitchen. But there was plenty of it and we were hungry so we were satisfied. Ambiance is fine. I like a noises from a busy diner. My friend and I stumbled upon eating here for a late breakfast on a Thursday without consulting any social media reviews and took a chance, because, hey - it's a diner - how badly can they screw this up? Upon entering on the rainy morning, the hostess was trying to sit us at a table immediately by the door, and that wasn't gonna fly with me. I told her what booth we would sit in and that's where she left us with the menus. The wait staff were quick to get our drink orders squared away, and coffee was offered consistently throughout our entire meal. I decided on the eggs benedict since I don't have it very often, and my friend looking for something more substantial, decided to go for the Irish Breakfast that had more meat than you could imagine on a plate. The portions were great and the food came out fast and hot. The overall presentation didn't blow me away, but the food was tasty and I enjoyed every bite. My friend cleaned off his own plate and was very happy with his decision. Nothing like a warm cup of coffee and a diner breakfast. I could see myself frequenting here if I lived in the area; for sure would be a reliable choice! The management was unprofessional, and the staff behaved inappropriately. When I complained about my food, the server shoved me, which was completely unacceptable. The food itself was terrible. My eggs were overcooked and dried out. After I had already eaten part of them, they put the eggs back on the grill and cooked them again. That was disgusting and completely unsanitary. When I asked to have the eggs removed from the bill, they refused. Instead of addressing the issue, the owner blamed us, yelled at me in front of the entire restaurant, and still tried to force me to pay for food I didn't eat. This was an awful experience from start to finish. Between the poor food, unsanitary handling, and aggressive behavior from staff and ownership, I strongly recommend avoiding this place. Came here on a rainy weekday in the morning and we were sat down immediately and after we ordered the food came out and a remarkable pace. The food on the other hand is just extremely lackluster. The eggs were fine, the chocolate chip pancakes were also fine but not something I would think about going back and getting. My girlfriend got the corn beef hash and it was genuinely awful. It either came from a can or it had been sitting for way too long. The prices for a diner are extremely high as well. When I think of a diner I think of average food with average to below average prices and that is not the case here. Gracie's on 2nd is a no frills diner experience. I walked in on a weekday and was seated immediately. The servers were very polite and attentive. My coffee and OJ came out shortly after I placed my order and the food came out quickly as well. I've been here a few times and I also order their breakfast frequently through Seamless and their food quality is consistently good. This is by no means a fancy or bougie brunch experience, but it is a relaxed and casual New York City diner feel which is what I tend to crave more these days. I will continue to support this business and recommend for those who want a hearty breakfast with efficient service. read more

I think it's my favorite diner/coffee shop in the City... certainly on the upper east side. They may have moved physical locations from 86th St., but they brought everything good about them to the new location on 85th and 2nd. The staff is incredibly friendly, and really sets your morning off to a good start. The menu has a lot of choices with a pretty good depth, and it's also easy to read - another thing that's important while you're waiting for coffee to arrive. I normally get an egg white omelette and rye toast which never fails to satisfy. The coffee is also very good, my cup is kept warm and full. My dining companion often gets the French toast, and says they look forward to breakfast here because it is consistently good. As with any breakfast place get here on the earlier side on the weekends. read more

After a long day of my day and striking out disastrously at a nearby 24-hour diner, I was in search of a bar. I was just having those days where a dirty vodka martini was in order. I was randomly walking and happened to stumbled onto Gracie's on 2nd Diner. I couldn't believe my luck! Stepping into Gracie's, it's l incredibly spacious and bright. A startling departure from the other diner I had been at. It has gorgeous light fixtures that actually remind me of the art deco period. Please, don't take my word for it. Though I was an Art History Tutor, I am still fallible. They have two big flat screen TVs, surrounded by a hefty stocked bar. Surprisingly, I loved the light in the place, even at such late of an hour. Something about it felt right and comforting. Now, for the food! Because of the aforementioned late hour, I had the most random meal. As a starter, I had a cup of French onion soup. This is a very hard recipe to screw up, and they didn't. This was so warm and felt like a warm hug, especially with the added addition of Tabasco. So good! It was everything I needed. The other was Corned Beef Hash and Imported Feta Cheese. They're both side dishes, but they were incredibly filling. They're were both really good. I love corned beef. It gave me memories of childhood. The feta was delicious. It was salty yet balanced. I was generous with my pour of both extra virgin olive oil and red wine vinegar. Which, side note, Gracie's is the only diner, hell, the only restaurant that I have ever seen offer red wine vinegar and extra virgin olive oil among the usual salt, pepper, ketchup, sugar, and hot sauce. I felt so fancy! Which brings me to the exceptional service. Baulino was my waiter. He is such a kind and patient man. He dealt with all of my asinine questions when I got in: can I sit anywhere? Can I dine in? Etc. I was trying desperately to hide that this was the first time I here and I'm totally not socially awkward! Did it work? Nope! Did Baulino pretend it did? Yes, he did. Baulino was such a great and attentive waiter. He was so nice and kind. He needs a shout-out for his kindness. I was having an okay day, but not really. This is my second time coming here. Last time I only had bagel which was delicious. This time however my husband and I had a full breakfast. Mine was 2 sunny side eggs sausage and potatoes with toast. The meal was good until the bill came For two breakfast meals coffee and tea a whopping $41 dollars!!! We were in total shock. The service was very slow to begin with and I had to flag down our waitress via a worker cleaning tables about 2 times. As I had a dinner reservation later in the day I went for classic diner wings, with a gyro and wrap and was pleased by everything we ordered. I will say that the service could've been a bit better but I do recognize that we came at a busy time of day and everyone has bad days.
