The service is very casual. Once you are ready to order you go up to the front to put in your order and pay. A staff member will deliver the food to your table. Although the staff were very kind and friendly, we did notice that once the food arrived, no one came by to check on us. We were never once offered a water refill nor were our empty dishes cleared even though we had long finished our meal. I ordered the fish tacos and our table got salsa and guacamole to share. The guacamole was very fresh and tasty, we all enjoyed it. The salsa was watery so we didn't enjoy it as much. The chips were delicious but a little over baked. The tacos were absolutely delicious and I would get them again. I added some of the fixings from their toppings bar which made it even better. The portions are great for the price. 4 tacos for $17! Can't beat that. We were all stuffed by the end of the night. It would be nice if you were allowed to mix flavours though like maybe 2 of each.

The coral door, the papel picado dancing in the windows, the warm glow from within -- it pulls you in before you've even decided to stop. I came for a drink and left utterly charmed. The tamarind passion fruit cocktail arrived in a stunning geometric cut glass, beautifully presented, and at just $6 it was one of the best value moments I've had in Edmonton in a long time. I sat outside in the afternoon sun, drink in hand, just soaking it all in and letting the neighbourhood wash over me. Marlo's ethos is simple and honest -- daily tortillas made from Oaxacan corn, slow-stewed meats, bright salsas, and regionally inspired cocktails. They do a few things and they do them with real care. In a world of sprawling menus and overpromising kitchens, that kind of focus is quietly radical. Old Strathcona is lucky to have Marlo.
