MY FAVORITE BAKERY IN NOLA! I love everything about Gracious Bakery. I love their fancy pastries even though the bakery is warm and inviting and not uptight. I love that I can try something new everyday and never be disappointed. With that being said however, I do have my favorites: Morning Bun (cinnamon spiral flakey buttery pastry) which usually sells pretty fast in the morning. The salted caramel pastry is my other fave, which is so decadent and rich with "burnt" caramel (i don't think it's "burnt", that's just the best way I can describe it), flakey crust and yet savory dough. I don't know what magic goes into these pastries but I highly recommend giving them a try snd I guarantee you'll be hooked! On top of all of this, the St. Charles location is beautiful. On a nice day, you can sit outside and watch the streetcar pass with a nice cup of whatever you enjoy with any of their delicious pastries or sandwiches. read more

Well you really can't go wrong here. All of the baked goods are de-lish! Go early so you can get the best selection. They also have great iced coffee (or hot coffee if that's your deal) to go with your pastry. The thing I liked the least, much to my surprise was the brownie. I usually love brownies and it def wasn't the worst brownie, but everything else stood out so much more to me. The staff was super nice and helpful. I would not recommend coming here to study as all the tables are off centered/have wobbly legs. The pastries are good but overly sweet, whereas the savory pastries are flavorless. The croissant may be the only redeeming quality. Service at this location is also slow. They forgot to make my coffee twice :( I recommend the one at Prytania if you want better service + environment (the molasses cookie there is super good) If you need pastries to cater I think Gracious bakery is a good choice; however, I would choose another bakery to go to if it is a smaller/day-of trip. read more

We decided to stop in here to grab a quick snack and a drink before going to Lafayette cemetery. OMG dulce de leche donut was delicious. Perfect balance of sweet between the frosting and actual donut. They have a lot of other treats you can try along with some brunch type food items . If you are walking the garden District definitely give this place a try. read more

Gracious Cafe on S. Jefferson Davis has been a favorite of mine for a while and I always stop in for iced coffee whenever I'm in the area. When I saw that they were adding a location to St. Charles, I was pretty pleased, even though I think the original might be "easier access" for me. Anyway, I decided to stop in here during my work runs and grab an iced coffee. This place is cute and has a little bit of everything: coffee, pastries, sandwiches, salads, beer, and wine. Oh yeah, this place serves booze, but you can't drink it on premises. I'm pretty "no frills" with these types of things, so I just got my normal iced coffee to go. It was okay. For some reason, it seemed to be lacking a little something, which is odd because it's always really good and rich when I get it at the other place. This time it just seemed a bit watered down. It was still good and I did enjoy it, so I'm not really complaining, but it seemed different. Maybe it was just an off day. The atmosphere in here is really nice and gives off a nice little "cafe" type vibe. I think this shop fits well into the area. read more

I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about this place. Most importantly, what sets them apart from the others? I can't think of anything that stands out. It's an average cafe with the usual caffeinated beverages of your choice. Also, a breakfast/lunch type menu for solids. Although I do remember them not actually cooking food until after a certain time oddly. I think it was round like 10 or 11 when they actually cook food instead of only offering pastries. I would consider it over priced too being that their isn't anything unique. They do have free wifi which is sparse on that section of St Charles. I'll give it a third try one of these days and update my review including that visit in detail. read more

Having returned to New Orleans after 35 years, mostly in Manhattan, I set out to find the best plain croissant in the city. As we settled in the Garden District, Gracious Bakery was the first stop. The croissant was really good, thin and crispy on the outside and light on the inside with a great buttery taste. After trying 4 of the other "best croissant in the city" entrants, I have to say that Gracious wins hands down. It is the closest thing to Balthazar's croissant which is the best in Manhattan. Gracious Cafe is great. (Pastry review below) Order the Build-a-Breakfast Sandwich and do this: 1. white cheddar biscuit, 2. house smoked cheddar, 3. garlic aioli and add arugula. It will light up your mouth. My 9 year-old: "Tell them the cinnamon roll was like getting an award from the president." My 7 year-old: "the best bear claw I've ever had in my life." Coffee is from French Truck. You literally cannot get any better roasted coffee than that in New Orleans. The pastries all look amazing. I'd like to try everything on the menu. *Update: I tried the pastry. Omg. Rosemary baked into the flaky flaky danish dough and lemon curd in the middle with a surprising piece of candied orange peel on top. Unreal. Now I think the pastries are the strength of this place. They're baked in their own commissary and brought in 3x day. Savory cruffin is so flavorful it's like an entree. Coffee is still really awesome. They don't do au laits, though. (But did I mention the pastry is great???). If you need a café au lait - chicory with hot milk, go a couple blocks over to Still Perkin'.) read more

Gracious Bakery is a few blocks away from my house and it's become one of my regular stops. They have my absolute favorite cold brew in New Orleans. I always get it with whole milk and it become so rich and chicory-y that it almost taste sweet. (If you skip the milk it can be a bit overpowering). It reminds me of the Nola Iced at French Truck. They also have an extremely impressive selection of baked goods and pastries. I love the savory Crawford's, and often will splurge on a cupcake here and there if they have the caramel ones, which are filled with gooey caramel in addition to having a salty caramel frosting. They also have a really incredible herb dressing which you can buy in the bottle in the drink fridge. They have some breakfast sandwiches that you can get hot with eggs and melted cheese, but I do wish they had some more solid breakfast options since I like a hot savory meal in the morning and these sandwiches don't quite do it for me. They have a lot of lunch salads and sandwiches, and I highly recommend the tarragon chicken salad sandwich! I find myself craving it every couple of weeks. read more

Holy crap. If I lived here you bet I would be coming to get some sort of baked good every damn day. We started with a rosemary lemon danish- OMG. So incredible and by far the best pastry I've ever had. Next up were the build your own breakfast sandwich. UGH SO GOOD. I got the egg, green onion bread, Munster cheese, and garlic aioli and just melted in my mouth. I'll be dreaming of these pastries... 10/10 must go. This cafe is located in a quite street in Garden District. It is surrounded by beautiful mansions and homes of the area. A convenient location to fuel up before or after your walking tour for this neighborhood. The pastries are quite fresh and tasteful. They do have some unusual croissant flavors such as feta and spinach, caramel sea salt. Feta and spinach reminds one the Mediterranean boreks. They are flaky and savory very good combination. I saw an ad for gracious banana foster king cake and thought that sounds good. Well I brought one and it sounded better than it taste. There was no hint of bananas, it was dry. The food here was actually pretty good, we enjoyed a nice bagel and avocado toast, I recommend if you go. The space was nice and well kept, but the customer service was far from gracious. As we were waiting in line we were yelled at for our drink orders leaving us confused as we couldn't tell if we had to order separately at the coffee bar and while still trying to figure out what to order with people in front. We also had to reminded the woman at the counter that we still hadn't gotten our bakery item. And when getting our utensils we found them quite dirty with dried food on them. The rest of the experience was fine until we got ready to leave. We looked around to see if there was any place to put our dishes and came to the conclusion that the rolling cart with the small dish rack and empty sour cream container behind the counter was what the employee's used to pick up the dishes from the tables. It was an honest mistake with no sign and no one telling us otherwise. But there is never a need to rudely yell at one's customer from across the building to put our dishes away. read more

I got a pastry this morning, and it was absolutely superb. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of it. It was mostly a chocolate ganache encased in a chocolate shell with little crunchy bits embedded here and there in the shell. The base tasted like a thin graham, and the topping was a light bar of chocolate over a citrus mousse. It was very tasty, though I thought the citrus flavor could have been stronger (the strong, earthy chocolate flavor overpowered it). The shop is very cute. I'd love to come here for a sandwitch some time. read more

As with the other locations this incarnation of Gracious isn't big on ambiance but the pastries and food are really good. Smoked Ham and Meatloaf sandwiches are virtually impossible to beat but just about everything is excellent. Only issue recently has been a quiche my wife ordered which had a nice crust and pretty good texture but was lunch meat ham instead of the infinitely better French style lardons plus the cheese was imperceptible so I was told she wouldn't order it again. On the pastry side, the croissants are beautifully lacquered and as good as anything you'll find in Paris or anywhere in France. And when you see canneles you must get them - yes, they look dark and maybe "burned" on the outside but that means they're perfect and will be nice & crispy on the outside while custardy inside. The best you're likely to find outside of Bordeaux. Pain au chocolat is also very well made, and baguettes are maybe the best in town through they're very large so it would be great if they offered a half size or just cut them in half like they do in France and sell as a demi baguette for maybe 60% of the price. Win-win. It's a very convenient location for many at 6th & St. Charles so by all means stop in. Certainly it's possible to go wrong occasionally but Gracious Bakery is about as good as you'll get. read more

I am impressed. I liked my quiche and almond croissant and I loved the selection. I couldn't decide on what to have so I panicked ordered my basics. But that that isn't what I came here to talk about. The man in front of me was VERY rude to the cashier in a number of ways. The cashier handled this situation beautifully. Every time he made a demand, she handled it with polite sincerity about what they could do. When it was my turn, I nearly complimented her on her patience, but the man was too close by. A wonderful recommendation from our tour guide Erin, from Phantom Tours, recommended this delightful spot for lunch. For a no seafood family in New Orleans food options are more limited. The food here was so good that we ate it before we could take a picture. Our group of 5 each tried something different, and we loved it all. The pastry dough was delicious from the tart, to the croissant, to the cinnamon bun. We left with treats for the next morning. read more

Stopped in today for something different than my traditional morning Starbucks. I got an iced coffee and a spinach feta croissant. My boyfriend got an iced americano and a ham and cheese croissant. Coffee was pretty good for a smaller shop, they offer simple syrup on the coffee bar which I found new and intriguing. It was good. The croissant were fantastic, super flaky, buttery. As Gracious as the name, this wonderful bakery went out of their way to make a special delivery that put a smile on my daughters face for her 21st b-day. My daughter was so surprised when the owner of Gracious Bakery met her at the door with lots of goodies that would sustain her for many days. The reason this particular delivery is significant is bc I was no where close to meeting a min order for a catering delivery. Just a mom living in another state while my daughter attends summer classes at Tulane. I called Jay (owner) to ask for suggestions for possible delivery services for my predicament but he couldn't think of any SO HE CAME TO THE RESCUE w/ a personal delivery and made my college student feel less lonely and very well fed.
