Streetcar New Orleans must be the breakfast/brunch capital of the world - and Streetcar is right there among the best of them. Nothing fancy, but excellent service and outstanding food. I was in New Orleans for the 2026 Jazz and Heritage Festival, so my mornings were my own. I travel alone and don't always look for reservations when planning on a meal in this city. Streetcar Café is a perfect choice for what I was looking for: ample breakfast choices, a full bar, and excellent service by Andres. I ordered two poached eggs ($3.50), a single pancake ($4.50), and hash brown potatoes ($4). Totally reasonable pricing, and excellent meals, topped with the Always Summer (Malibu rum, Triple sec, OJ, Pineapple juice, Grenadine, $13). The place filled up pretty quickly after I arrived at around 10 a.m. Andres did an outstanding job of keeping track of my order, and served up the menu items piping hot. Not good. Actually, a tourist trap. We wanted fresh fried seafood. The fried 'seafood' platter contains farm-raised imported shrimp, farm-raised imported Swai (a foreign garbage-eating pond-raised fish), and farmed oysters for $26. No thanks. Ok. Switching to gumbo. Uh, their 'gumbo' is a thin broth with virtually no solid ingredients besides white rice. A very few minuscule shreds of chicken and maybe a 6-8 tiny cubes of some tasteless sausage for $17. It did come with a nice biscuit. Be aware of what's being served. Stick to the well-known real-deal restaurants. Not everything is what it claims to be. Nothing real about this ripoff. We'll never go back to this tourist trap. read more

My coworkers and I stopped by midweek for breakfast (a little after 8am). We were greeted and seated almost immediately after entering. Our server was very quick to bring our drinks, and our food didn't take very long either. I opted for a black iced coffee (which was fine), and the French toast. I found the portion to be the perfect size -- not so much that I felt overly full but not so little that I was left hungry. While some parts were a little more eggy/soggy than I expected, for the most part the toast kept its structural integrity and was nice and fluffy. Flavor wise it wasn't overly sweet. If I were to nitpick, I'd probably like to see a little more fruit with the toast bc it was a little plain, but otherwise it was solid. We went here and it happened to be happy hour. Great because we're able to try a cup of Gumbo and Jambalaya which were still on our list to try while we were in town. We enjoyed both but I liked the Jambalaya more. Great flavors. We also tried their version of the Mufaletta / which they were nice enough to cut into 3 since they knew we were sharing. We were seated quickly and order came out fast. I had the veggie omelette and it was loaded with yummy veggies. The biscuit that came with it was hot and very good. The iced coffee was just okay. Our server was attentive and kind. The waitress was also sweet. We dined here for the first time yesterday and ordered two biscuits, the seafood omelette with grits. I would 100% order shrimp and grits here in the future. I felt like the grits were very creamy and tasty and the shrimp quality was very fresh and plump. Unfortunately, the biscuit taste and eggs missed the mark. It was not so much how it was prepared but the quality. The biscuits were very full but they did have a slight aftertaste. Ive eaten a lot of different breakfast establishments in New Orleans and have never had this feedback. I'm wondering if they carry over the biscuits to the next day and use packaged egg mixture in a carton? They do offer prepackaged grape and strawberry jelly on the table with the packaged butter. The Americano here is lovely. The coffee they serve (HEY! Brand coffee) is not my favorite. It does have a tart taste. Went twice in one day. Nice little cozy spot. First was for coffee. Had a properly made americano and a house drip. Great coffee and extra smooth Americano. Wasn't busy yet but staff seemed happy and outgoing. A few hours later after looking around canal and bourbon street I decided to bring the family back for brunch. The Streetcar Cafe looks like a hole-in-the-wall place, but don't let that fool you. I'd say that it punches above its weight class and compares to the fancier hotel restaurants for breakfast! In New Orleans. The food is delicious. Service is exceptional and "not in your face." Highly recommend their eggs Benedict on a Southern biscuit, which I've never eaten before but was a nice (and delicious) change, all of the omelette, and of course, the powder sugared beignets. This is the first restaurant I've been to where the applewood bacon is cooked to perfection (with no fatty grizzle). A must "go there" place to eat breakfast! read more

One thing Jamie W and I noticed is that there is not a dearth of places to grab breakfast around Canal Street. Only a block away from our hotel, this spot has the right name since the green St. Charles Avenue streetcar line passes right in front of it. You halfway expect Blanche DuBois to enter looking lost and forlorn as she depends on the kindness of strangers. The staff is friendly here so no doubt Blanche would get the help she so desperately needed. We were just looking for something substantial and satisfying before heading to the airport. Jamie went for his homeward standby, the $15 Biscuits & Gravy where a couple of buttermilk biscuits were covered completely by thick country gravy with bits of sausage (Photo 9). It was the classic version which Jamie pronounced as 'pretty good'. We agreed the plate could've been warmer. I ordered the $16 Veggie Omelet, a three-egger with lots of ingredients. Sautéed mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, peppers, spinach, and melted cheddar. Check, check, and check. It came with a side of particularly creamy grits (or breakfast potatoes if you prefer), and I got my own buttermilk biscuit (instead of toast) (Photo 10). I think I got the better deal because I got more variety of textures and flavors with my order, in particular, those yummy grits. The $3.50 mug of Hot Coffee was much needed to wash it all down (Photo 3). These folks are cranking out some really great food. We stayed at the hotel next door for Mardi Gras, so we ate here a couple of times. Service was excellent. My favorite beignets in NOLA. We stopped in on our walk back to our Airbnb from the Krewe du Veaux parade for our evening beignets. (We were on an unofficial tour). We were delighted to see that they came traditional, chocolate filled or caramel filled. And to our grateful surprise, they let us do a split order - half traditional, half chocolate. Oh my gosh. They had all the great qualities of a beignet- crisp crust, fluffy light insides, lots of powdered sugar. We loved them so much, we ordered a second half and half order but with caramel. Their hash browns are actually potato chunks, and we're mouth watering. The scrambled eggs were fluffy, and my bacon was cooked to perfection, they have indoor and outdoor seating, unisex bathroom with a whimsical sign on the door (see photo) as well as a fun area in the hallway specifically for taking photos. I visited on 10/09/2025. The staff was very friendly and accomodated our group by pushing 2 tables together, and allowing 7 different, individual checks. Unfortunately, the food was average (at best). The alligator bites were fun, but the jambalaya was quite bland, with almost no sausage (a similar scarcity of meat was found by one of my companions, who also had the jambalaya). The Streetcar Cafe is an excellent "hole in the wall" restaurant off the beaten path. On the South side of Canal, it was an easy walk from a few area hotels. The Gumbo was one of the best gumbos I've ever had. It was thick and rich like a Kardashian. It was packed with flavor and a few drops of Crystal hot sauce made it sing! Why is Crystal only good on Cajun/Creole food? The biscuit had a consistency somewhere between a regular biscuit and soft bread, which I thought was amazing. I wanted to go back for Biscuits and Gravy but ended up trying that somewhere else. The biscuit and Gumbo was great, though (even at 7p). The Jambalaya was good too. Lots of rice and not soupy. And the Fried Oysters were amazing and didn't break the bank like some places. Yes, they were a little pricey, but the batter was crispy and fresh tasting. I bet they'd be killer on an oyster po'boy. The wait service was excellent, and everything was reasonably prices with the right portion size of food. Ambiance: Tables are very limited with two tables on the patio. However, any place you sit, you will be delivered great service and food. Overall: I can't wait to visit this place again to try even more of their delicious menu.
