We ordered a cup of the Jambalaya and gumbo and it also happened to be happy hour when we came so they were $5 each. Great deal! And the flavors were very good. We didn't even know when we decided to go there that they had a happy hour. Just luck. We also split their version of the Mufaletta with fries. It was a nice late afternoon snack after a day of exploring!

We went here and it happened to be happy hour. Great because we're able to try a cup of Gumbo and Jambalaya which were still on our list to try while we were in town. We enjoyed both but I liked the Jambalaya more. Great flavors. We also tried their version of the Mufaletta / which they were nice enough to cut into 3 since they knew we were sharing. It was on a hamburger bun instead. It was great and prices were reasonable. But even more so while Happy Hour! Highly recommend. Cute decor!

This is a popular place- it's small, clean, bright- cool decor. Our server was great. The food was really good- which is why it's so busy- full bar and great food.

The crab Benedict was great! I liked the hollandaise sauce and the biscuit versus it being on an English muffin. The potatoes were lightly seasoned. The food came out incredibly fast and the bartender was very nice.

One thing Jamie W and I noticed is that there is not a dearth of places to grab breakfast around Canal Street. Only a block away from our hotel, this spot has the right name since the green St. Charles Avenue streetcar line passes right in front of it. You halfway expect Blanche DuBois to enter looking lost and forlorn as she depends on the kindness of strangers. The staff is friendly here so no doubt Blanche would get the help she so desperately needed. We were just looking for something substantial and satisfying before heading to the airport. Jamie went for his homeward standby, the $15 Biscuits & Gravy where a couple of buttermilk biscuits were covered completely by thick country gravy with bits of sausage (Photo 9). It was the classic version which Jamie pronounced as 'pretty good'. We agreed the plate could've been warmer. I ordered the $16 Veggie Omelet, a three-egger with lots of ingredients. Sautéed mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, peppers, spinach, and melted cheddar. Check, check, and check. It came with a side of particularly creamy grits (or breakfast potatoes if you prefer), and I got my own buttermilk biscuit (instead of toast) (Photo 10). I think I got the better deal because I got more variety of textures and flavors with my order, in particular, those yummy grits. The $3.50 mug of Hot Coffee was much needed to wash it all down (Photo 3). FOOD - 4 stars...hearty takes on classic breakfasts...if you're really hungry, better AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...spacious enough for a traditional cafe SERVICE - 4 stars...quite attentive TOTAL - 4 stars...I have always depended on the kindness of strangers RELATED - Exploring New Orleans? Shrimp po boy and fries

Very cute spot to grab a bite to eat and it really is right in front of a Streetcar stop. Great shrimp po boy!

Red beans and rice. So tasty!
    Alicia N.

Stopped in because I was looking for somewhere near my hotel where I could try red beans and rice while visiting New Orleans. They make theirs with a tasty beef sausage and it was delicious. Creamy, smoky and savory. Absolutely delicious. Service was prompt and polite and it's a decent sized space. They also serve alcohol. Hopefully I make it back once more before leaving town. One of the best things I've eaten so far.

    Cajun pasta
    Yasenia H.

Service was great. Mai took great care of us. The food was Meh. The fish poboy is swai and it was fishy, the sandwich does not come with fries or a side that is $3 extra. The bread was soft and the roumelade was tangy. The gumbo had a good flavor but not piping hot. The French toast lacked freshness and flavor. It felt like they may have been sitting for a while. Our friends got the pasta and they said it had good flavor. All in all a hot meal but not the best one we have had here in NOLA.

Service was great our server was so sweet and friendly the two eggs with toast was OK. I had the crabcake Benedict. It was not good at all. The place was pretty packed. Everybody's very friendly, but as far as the food is concerned, enjoy the drinks

These folks are cranking out some really great food. We stayed at the hotel next door for Mardi Gras, so we ate here a couple of times. Service was excellent. The shrimp po boy was seasoned to perfection and the piled high with plenty of shrimp. My fries were a little cold. Our orders came out very quick. Plenty of seating and you can also order to go. I will definitely be back next time I am in Nola.

Red beans and rice, jambalaya and gumbo all delicious! And the biscuit was yummy too!

We went to dinner last night and circled back for breakfast today and breakfast E's even better! We sat outside and people watched for breakfast and had turn most amazing server. I can't recall her name but there is a picture of her I caught. We sat inside for dinner and I'd prefer breakfast and outside because it the vibe and the people watching! I highly recommend everything. The adult drinks were a little mid- I had the king cake espresso martini yesterday and a mimosa this morning. My daughter had chai tea and said it was good!

Beignets - half traditional, half chocolate filled
    Liz I.

My favorite beignets in NOLA. We stopped in on our walk back to our Airbnb from the Krewe du Veaux parade for our evening beignets. (We were on an unofficial tour). We were delighted to see that they came traditional, chocolate filled or caramel filled. And to our grateful surprise, they let us do a split order - half traditional, half chocolate. Oh my gosh. They had all the great qualities of a beignet- crisp crust, fluffy light insides, lots of powdered sugar. We loved them so much, we ordered a second half and half order but with caramel. And those were my favorite of the whole trip. Our server was so fun and kind, laughing along with our ridiculousness. I can't speak to the other food on the menu, but the beignets are !!!

Really friendly service with fast service. I was a big fan of the crispy bacon. Our server was just so sweet! I wish I knew her name.

Both were outstanding. The Bananas Foster French Toast was rich, indulgent, and packed with flavor without being overwhelmingly sweet. The bananas and sauce were the perfect complement to the French toast, making it feel like a New Orleans dessert and breakfast all in one. The Boudin Breakfast Biscuit was equally impressive. The biscuit was fresh and flaky, and the boudin added a delicious Cajun flavor that set it apart from a typical breakfast sausage. Every bite was savory, satisfying, and uniquely Louisiana. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was welcoming, and it's easy to see why Surrey's has such a loyal following. If you're visiting New Orleans and looking for a memorable breakfast, put this place on your list. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in town.

The hashbrowns were very crispy and seasoned well, so I loved them, as soggy hashbrowns are a major pet peeve of mine. The chicken biscuit was good, but I'm not 100% sure it was to my taste. It was massive and very hard to eat, and there was a lot of fried chicken skin. The mayo on the sandwich was definitely homemade and had a very strong egg flavor, so I would go without that next time. The biscuit was probably the best biscuit I've ever had. As a California girl, I think the flavors might have just been a little too strong for me, but still a great spot to stop by.

There was a line when we arrived, but we liked how the host walked the line asking how many people in your party in case they were able to seat people regardless of your position in line. We were seated pretty quickly, our server was great. She came over with a big smile, very mild mannered, but attentive. We ordered our meals, which came out quickly. Omelet for my husband, grits bowl for me. The grits have smoked gouda. The grits bowl is if you have a big appetite because it is big! My husband enjoyed his shrimp and crab Omelet, but he did mention that he couldn't really taste or see much crab, but it was tasty. The grits bowl has a lot of sautéed veggies so if that's not your thing say no veggies or light veggies. I had one of the fresh juices, the Ginger Sun, I believe that's the name. Oh my!!! It was so good and honestly I wasn't feeling my best when I arrived and after drinking the juice my body really started feeling better. I wasn't able to eat all my food, but I can say that juice was the highlight of it for me. The restaurant was clean and I love the long bench with the pillows that line the wall. Also, they have 2 sides, the other side is for to go I believe and its for tacos/quesadillas, etc...

We checked into our nearby hotel a bit early in the day and was looking to hit the streets for a spot to get a chill/light breakfast, a coffee and maybe a cocktail. We found all the things at Luzianne Cafe. Whether you belly up to the bar or grab a table, both of which are first come first serve, you start at the counter where you order, pay and grab your table number. It appears that during busy times they allow you to sit first and order from the QR at your table, this is an assumption given the code to order at the table, but the sign at the entry directed folks to the counter to order before sitting. For breakfast, we got the breakfast biscuit which came with eggs, bacon and cheese, and sided it with grits. The breakfast sandwich was solid, eggs were a bit soft and grits were more mealy than we are used to, but I think that may be authenticity of the area more than anything. I opted for the three option omelet with onion, sausage and gouda plus a side of sausage links. The omelet, though odd sounding combination turned out to be solid. Maybe it was my options, but it was decently "one note" in flavor. I tossed a little hot sauce on and that helped. However, while the sausage links were not much to look at, they were tasty, with a nice snap to the casing and meaty inside. To go with our breakfast, I got a cold brew with a splash of almond milk while my partner embraced NOLA and started his day with a bourbon sour. Both of us enjoyed our choices! Service was friendly and helpful at the counter/bar. The food runner was nice and then another member, assuming the Manager, that stopped by to check on us mid meal. She was super friendly and nice. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and drinks at Luzianne. Minor things noted, mainly on the cook of the eggs, but nothing awful. It his the spot and checked the boxes!

To make matters worse, there was open bench seating in the back where customers ordering to-go could sit. I offered to order food to-go so we could at least sit down and get started while waiting, and she told me if I did that they would remove our name from the waitlist because "you have to pick one or the other." No willingness to problem solve whatsoever. She repeatedly said she was "sorry," but her actions showed the opposite. I was simply trying to work together to find some reasonable solution instead of continuing to watch everyone else get seated while our family, including small children, kept waiting. Absolutely horrible customer service experience.
