The interior design just isn't for me -- the carpets are ugly and the hallways feel eerie, dim and weirdly quiet to walk through. Our room had a view of the backside of the building, which wasn't pleasant, but you get what you pay for with the view. The rooms themselves are small and not great -- cramped and nothing special for what you're paying. The lobby has an odd style too. I think they're going for a quirky retro college vibe, but it just isn't my thing. I can see how some people might be into it, but it didn't land for me. The receptionist was genuinely nice and easy to deal with, which I appreciated. Overall, not my type of place and I wouldn't personally recommend it, but if the aesthetic is your thing, you might feel differently. read more

I love a quirky boutique hotel, and the Graduate in Tempe really fits the bill! Front desk staff are welcoming and Housekeeping does a solid job. My room was comfortable, and I really enjoyed the balcony, it was the perfect space to meditate and listen to birdsong in the morning. There is a very limited breakfast menu at the bar downstairs, but my avocado bagel with egg bites on the side was decent. I'm a light sleeper and had requested a room on the seventh floor, which was perfect and very quiet. However, the AC unit was a bit dated and very loud. I ended up sleeping without it, but woke up during the night feeling pretty warm and ran it for a few minutes, shut it off and went back to bed. This location is right by ASU campus so it's very handy for folks who are visiting students or want to be in central Tempe. read more

I bought a day pass and it was so nice to have access to the gym and pool for a few hours! The fitness center was small but it had weights, a bench, and a mat, which is all I needed. The pool area was pretty nice and empty for a while. The water wasn't warm but it was heated slightly and the hot tub was warm. Overall pretty nice experience and would book again. read more

The room has an odor when we walked in. The fact that this is owned by Hilton and everything pretty much is dated, is very disappointing. C'mon Hilton!!! The middle section of our bed had a dip, it was def uncomfortable. The furnitures look like from an antique store. This is strictly in regards to the guest who is allowed to sleep in the entrance area before check in. After breakfast, I wanted to sit outside, and found this man watching his phone, so I asked the lady at the front desk about this. She said he wasn't homeless, that he was with a guest. Okay. An hour later, I found him like this. I didn't want to be out there by myself, so went back in and then asked for a manager. I only visited the restaurant and bar area. The drinks had a happy hour from 5-7pm which was great because we arrived at 6. I had the well drink and my friend had a glass of red. The aesthetic was nice and welcoming. We started out sitting outside but because there were several mosquitoes that decided to drink her blood, we changed to the inside. My friend ordered chicken strips with fries. The fries were good , but the chicken was your regular regular chicken strips. Walking into this hotel, it is clear that it's going for a funky vibe. And I'd say they've achieved that objective-the decor is eclectic and fun. I'd call it a mashup of mid-century modernist decor with more modern and Southwest-y elements. Some reviews I've seen complain about the smell -and the odor in the lobby does remind me of my grandmas attic, but that's a price I'm willing to pay for the whimsy. Students man the front desk, and they do a pretty nice job. We were able to check in early, which was a godsend on ASU move in day. There was an initial little hiccup when the room they assigned to us had not yet been cleaned, but we went back down and got a new room straightaway. We were incredibly grateful to check in early around 11:30. The room is comfortable and pretty clean. There's an in-room fridge and coffee. The king sized bed was firm, and we both slept well. The shower did make some strange and very loud sounds when I started it in the morning, so much so that I got out and asked my partner to check on it. But the issue resolved itself relativity quickly. Overall, we had a nice stay here. The location was perfect for freshman dorm move in, and I'd absolutely stay again when visiting the area. read more

Sorry Graduate, this may have been a cool funky hotel at one time but not now. Everything about Graduate Tempe says cheap, and old. It looks like all the furniture is from a garage sale. Everything is worn out and smells old and well used. The beds are lumpy and loud.They crinkle loudly like they have plastic covers or something. I've stayed in plenty of 4 star hotels. There is no way this is four stars. Do not stay here. I never will again. read more

I was very disappointed with this hotel. When I arrived, the person at the front desk told me they were overbooked and I couldn't stay there. This was despite us booking our reservation months in advance. They booked us at another hotel a few miles away. When I asked for a refund for the difference in price, they told me to call Expedia and have Expedia work with them. I've now learned that they have refused to answer Expedia's calls. I would not trust any reservation at this hotel due to the way we were treated. read more

The Graduate is continently located across the street from Arizona State University and is a very modern yet retro hotel from the moment you enter the vestibule to the lobby. The staff is attentive and there's a neat mascot cutout at the front desk. The room keys are replicas of student IDs like Pat Tillman. The sleeping rooms are nicely laid out with neat paintings and tissue designs. There was some rust on the sink, but not devastating. The temperature was fine and the bed was adequate. I used the gym and it had the typical equipment like a treadmill, elliptical, and tv. Otherwise, the pre and post stay communication made me feel like my reason for visiting Tempe was to go to the Graduate. One of the emails offered me a room upgrade, which was appreciated. I called them and hour ago about the sink which won't open to let the water drain. The bathroom smells slightly like mold. I called them back 3x and they never called me back in the room to explain that maintenance cannot come in the fix the sink. They cannot move me. Wtf is this. How are they charging this much and are apparently a Hilton with rooms where they can't fix the sink to drain until the next morning. How is the front desk staff unable to actually tell me what is going on. I have to call them 4 times instead. read more

I'm giving them a 2 star because of one of their swing shift female staff that treated us like so rudely unkind and unprofessional. She made us feel like criminals and that we don't belong. Beside her, everyone were wonderful and nice. The other problem is the pets. They should tell their pet lover guests that if their pets are not service animals, they can't have them on counters or in the eating space. They need to respect other guests regardless. The last but not important is the mattress and pillows. They are very uncomfortable to where you're not getting a good night sleep. read more

Quick backstory, house a/c went out and I desperately needed a hotel for the night close to home. This spot showed 4.3 out of 5 on a hotel app. Paid via the app, get to the hotel and park and a sign tells you to either pay at a station or text the # your license plate for validation (makes sense so guests dont get towed right? WRONG) Get to the front desk and ask for the validation code, which I'm given and also informed that a $9 PARKING FEE will be charged for my stay. So my $100+ room doesnt even include parking?!?! Whatever, fine....gives me my room, go up to the room, open the door and it's a disgusting mess like a few frat guys just got done staying for a week. Come back downstairs and explain the situation, naturally I get an apology and sent right back up to a different room thats actually been cleaned, or cleaned well enough anyways. Since I quickly found an old unused cigarette in the closet that no one should have missed. Pillows have zero support, my window overlooks a lower class neighborhoods backyards, and as you see in the pictures. So many other odd/somewhat damaged things happening. Full Disclosure I got in on a special $30 a night deal so my room was under $50 after an upgrade and taxes. It has a fun desert theme, cute little sitting areas in the lobby and outside both in the front and in the back. In the back it has a small grassy (not sure if real or artificial) area for dogs, they are pet friendly for a fee. The pool is a plunge pool so it goes from 3ft to 8ft which is great in Arizona because it stays cooler it also has trees on the west side and the tall part of the hotel on the East so it looks like it stays pretty shaded for a good part of the day. The pool furniture did look like to me that it was maybe a tad faded but I didn't see any holes, snags or disrepair so maybe I just don't like the colors? I found the mattress to be a bit firm for my liking but it was only 1 night so not a huge deal, the pillows were very cushy and I loved them. I'm 5ft 4in and found the shower very accessible I could very easily reach everything soooo if you're taller might just want to keep that in mind. There was an odd patch job in the bathroom that looked unfinished, not sure what that was about but totally better then a random hole in the wall. The staff though were amazing. The person who checked us in was informative, friendly and quick, they made us feel very welcomed. The Normal Bar bartender was also excellent, they promptly greeted us, provided us with everything we needed even fulfilled special request and all very nicely. All the staff seemed like they enjoyed what they were doing and were striving to provide an excellent customer experience. read more

When I decided on Tempe for my NYE plans, I thought "why not just get a hotel nearby?" The Graduate delivered on everything I needed for a comfy place to enjoy before and after all the festivities. I was a big fan of the bathroom, with its above-average, even artisanal soaps and conditioners. I was pleasantly surprised by the balcony, which was tiny but perfect for a breath of fresh air. The room decor wasn't bad either, expressing more creativity than some stock photos of landscapes like so many others. Graduate makes you feel like you're staying somewhere with *character*, and the service is efficient and friendly. It's not exactly within walking distance of stuff, but it'll be a quick and short Uber trip. And if I stayed here again, I'd grab brunch from the adjoining bar and restaurant, The Normal. Overall, this place was fun, comforting, and a welcome change of pace from its much larger competitors. Give it a try! read more

It's comfortable and clean. The coffee was instant in the room so it was definitely not to my liking. The hot water kettle and phone are old fashioned and cute. My side lamp plug in for my phone was not working so the 1st night I plugged my phone in, my phone died the next day because it had not charged. There were other plug ins around the room so I made it work. The bathroom is very small but it had everything we needed. Don't go here. You see this bar restaurant on the corner, you roll in and give them your business, and when you leave you have a ticket waiting on your car from air garage. Disabled, parked in handicap spot, no signs stating anything about paying to park. And people who were staying in the hotel a couple spots down from where I was parked where complaining that they had a ticket too. FTS. Stay away, there are many more options in Tempe. read more

The room was clean but it barely earns 3 stars. It is more like a Motel 6 than a Hilton. It is overpriced for what you get. Two of us stayed in the room but I only received coffee for 1 person. On the second day, there was no coffee. It was instant coffee instead of brewed coffee. No coffee in the lobby unless you go to the restaurant. They seem to nickel and dime you to death. There is no free parking but I paid about $600.00 for 2 people for 2 nights. I think you are better off staying at a Motel 6 unless it's in a bad neighborhood. You will save money and will most likely get free coffee and parking. read more

Downside - extraordinary tiny rooms that don't work for a long stay, absolute lack of changing linens and replacing towels, so so cleaning, Lack of the ability to unpack with tiny rooms that don't really have much storage. Really mid breakfast. Would never stay here again and makes me doubt certain Hilton brands. Let's not have this happen again. read more

The check was great and it was down hill from there .Graduate Tempe is old , dated and gets one star because of its location. The wife and I went to the restaurant and my cheeseburger was dry and plain. My wife said her chicken sandwich was not good either. Our room looked like it was straight out of 1975. The carpet was not vacuumed. The sheer curtain had a brown stain on it (room517). The sliding glass door opened to a balcony overlooking an alley and residential backyards. There was no screen so we couldn't open the door and enjoy fresh air. On Saturday evening the rear neighbors cranked up their music for about 4 hours into the night. The bathroom had what looked like black mold as well as rust on the light fixture because there is no exhaust fan.There was an ironing board but no iron and yes we could have asked for one but at $237 per night give me an iron. The vending machine on out floor didn't work . As it turned out only one machine worked on the 3rd floor of 5. Here's the real kicker. After I booked the room the hotel sent me a confirmation email for $1092.00 but hotel.com charged me $1540.00. Well as you can guess the hotel wouldn't honor their price. Oh yeah did I tell you they charge $15 a day to park. Never again and no I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. read more

I could not wait to get home to write this review. Usually this is the case for a scathing review of a place that burned you but no, I could not wait to get home to write a glowing review of The Graduate Tempe in one night, it became my favorite hotel ever! Seriously. Golden Era hip hop playing in the lobby. Front desk staff that treats you like a human being. The decor of the place that is weird and eclectic but welcoming to the point where you feel like you're home. And I had never set foot inside before! I mean a great first impression for sure at the front desk. I checked in easily, got my parking pass and went upstairs. My room was so cool and welcoming too! It felt like a modern version of a roadside motel that was well kept up, had a totally renovated bathroom with a huge shower and the absolute best in room shower gel, shampoo and conditioner I have ever come across in all my travels. Better than luxury hotels with 3xs the price point of this place! While this place was not the lap of luxury, it did more than just provide a cushy stay, it made you feel welcome and honestly, that goes a long way in my book. More so than goose down comforters and sleep number beds wrapped in Egyptian cotton sheets. Don't get me wrong, everything was not perfect here. Some smudgy paint in corners, one of the hand towels had a visible stain that no amount of bleach and washing would have ever taken care of. The lights of the mirror did not work, the noise from the train in front was louder than expected, the bed was a little stiff for my taste. All minor things that you can overlook because of the price and the overall welcoming atmosphere of the place. The bartender at night and barista at breakfast were great conversationalists with good tips for places to eat and visit in the area. The breakfast bagel was delicious and just the right amount of food for me in the morning. The vanilla latte with oat milk was tasty as could be. The local amber beer I had was delicious! I visited while things were slow and the ASU campus was empty for the holidays. The atmosphere will surely be more bustling at a regular time of year but I will 100% guarantee I will stay here when I return to the Phoenix area again. read more

Perfect location near shopping, food, groceries; beautiful building outside and seating area out front; walking in you're greeted with impeccable cleanliness and great scent (that's right it smells good in there!), super friendly and helpful staff, elegant and eclectic mid century decor, and all the safety and tech needed during COVID. Good job guys! I got a garden king room on the top floor which is exquisite! In the room, super clean, beautiful decor and furniture, comfy bedding with lots of squishy fluffy pillows and layers upon layers of white, sumptuous linens which were so nice I slept like a baby. All the little details in the room and the hotel at large we're keeping me interested and invited. The bathroom was clean and had nice towels. The shower was glorious with plenty of hot water and good pressure! They provide toiletries that smelled so good and were gentle - nice touch. The front desk staff was so wonderful and they helped me with a million little things. I loved that I could text them for stuff. They brought me coffee pods a million times. Haha! This is my favorite hotel when I travel to work in Tempe. The pool is perfect as is the bar staff and everything they mix. The front desk staff have never failed to provide outstanding service - I'm at least 8 visits in with these folks. I prefer the back of the hotel. Balcony is a great way to end and start the day. It's right on the ASU campus and you get to use their amazing gym facilities as a result. Check out Four Peaks pub for dinner/drinks and get your runs in before sunrise. It's hot! read more

This should be a FULL 5 star review but we will get to the -1 star, later. HELLO MID-CENTURY MODERN DREAM HOTEL. This place is so rad. Rachel greeted us at the front desk and hello she was perfect. So friendly, helped us out so much! The lobby is decorated superbly and has such a style. Our room was on the 6th floor and looked out over campus and A Mountain. Clean. Big Room. HUGE patio space with sliding door, comfy beds, cool decor and large shower. The pool is great. There is also ping pong, foosball, bocce ball, and the hot tub. Plenty of seating and cute couches on the pool deck as well. We brought our own speaker, floaties, and made a day of it. The restaurant/bar...that is where we lost a star my friends. Wow, the service. High fives to Sonya & Ryan who were really great while they were there. But the rest of the staff. Holy. The worst service I've ever experienced. They will make you feel like you are causing a disservice by asking for a glass of water, or ordering a drink (that is on their menu) that they don't know how to drink. I've never felt so mistreated by staff. PLEASE hire some new help for the bar! PLEASE! OTHER BITS *** - The Pool is a PUBLIC OPEN POOL - so anyone can come in and use it even if they are not guests. - With your stay here, you have access to the ASU pools/rec center. USE THIS! the pools are rad/huge & hello, racquet ball is fun. Go do it. - The Hotel Shuttle will drop you off around the area for dinners/shopping etc if they aren't busy with airport runs. - Steal the little "studying" do not disturbed signs. It's encouraged. Very dated. You get what you pay for at this hotel. If you're working remotely and are heavily dependent on internet stability, then do not stay here! The internet is very unstable and unreliable. The rooms themselves had peeling wallpaper, very few outlets, no direct internet jacks, very stiff lumpy beds. If you're lucky enough to get a room on the north facing side you can probably forgive them for the general lack of quality and hospitality. I was lucky enough not to have the nice north view and instead had a view of someone's eyesore of a back yard. In general, I recommend staying anywhere else if you're able to afford it. read more

It was the worst of all the Graduate Hotels I have been to. The room was barely decorated, kind of bare bones. Service was mediocre. Even the key cards.. they only had 3 designs. Not enough towels or toiletries offered in the rooms. The bedspread had a stain on it. Upon check in they said we would be able to use their shuttle service then when we needed it they said they had no drivers. I would say the place was a solid okay at best. Definitely not worth the price of almost $900 total for 2 nights. We stayed here the last weekend of February 2023. I would pick a different hotel next time we are in the Tempe area. read more

The Graduate Hotel is perhaps one of my places to stay! The dorm theme and mid century decor are such a throwback, and all the little decorative touches really make this place fun. I recommend coming in the spring or summer to take advantage of the pool and rooftop bar! PROS: + Convenient location right by ASU campus, easily accessible and close to a lot of different shops and restaurants. + Super reasonable pricing at around $70/night when we visited over the holidays. + Totally fell in love with the dorm aesthetic, complete with student ID room cards and teensy rooms with furnishings that are both fun and functional! The cool branding really is as noteworthy as the design. + $5/day dining credit to use on site if you forego housekeeping services! CONS: - Charging guests $6/day parking is a BS move. The lots were never even close to full and diners who visit the on-site restaurants don't pay. Never saw any sort of security, not sure why this fee is charged or how it's enforced but it left a bad taste in my mouth. In retrospect, I should have disputed this with management. - Several reviews mention that the convenient in-lamp outlets do not charge devices at night. I realize replacing them would be a little ridiculous, but considering it's a known issue, guests should at least be informed about it to plan accordingly to use another outlet (ie bathroom counter). read more

I was pleasantly surprised with how classy and clean this place was. From the friendly micro bio bartenderess, to the helpful housekeeping supervisor, and the accommodating front desk staff. I stayed here while moving, and it was such a great experience! The staff was super friendly, kind, and hospitable (even when I was stuck in the lobby with a mountain of stuff for several hours while waiting for my new apartment Ent to be ready). My room was comfortable and very clean, and I appreciated the alternative to single/use plastics (i.e. no miniature bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash). I didn't use the pool or gym, but if I stay again I definitely will. Thanks for a great experience! read more
