Beer cheese fondue-minus a bit of bread and sausage

We had a late lunch here today, passing through town. We were hungry, so everything on the menu sounded good. We settled on an appetizer of the beer cheese fondue, which was delicious. It came with two breads and sliced sausage. I did everything but lick the bowl. I had fish and chips, advertised as the best in Vancouver, I had to agree. The fish had light crispy batter, plenty of tartar and fries, and was a nice portion. My friend had Bangers and Mash. They were reported as delicious, and they certainly looked it. We had plenty of leftovers, as our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. I still wanted to try the double layer homemade Ding Dong, but passed, darn it. Just no room. Service was friendly and attentive. I'll keep it mind the next time I make it back to the area.

Tri tip dip and Cajun fries

Came here once for lunch and then again during their brunch. During their lunch time it was a little slower and got a tri tip dip which was good and got Cajun fries with it which were delicious. During their brunch we decided to get the traditional and corned beef eggs Benedict which were very delicious. It was a little busier but the owner was helping out the server so we were able to get everything we needed. I had to ask for a little extra hollandaise and they were super nice about it. I really enjoyed their breakfast potatoes. The place is clean and lively.

Finally decided to give this place another shot this morning. Saw an ad about their weekend brunch and wanted to come check it out. We were greeted right away and our waitress was so nice! Her name is Jenn and she was so friendly and welcoming. So much friendlier than the bartender we had when we first came in earlier this year. So glad we chose to sit in the restaurant this time for that reason. We ordered chicken fried steak, French roast and biscuits and gravy. Everything was decently priced and big portions. Will come back again to try other brunch options! Thank you, Jenn! FYI, they charge a 3.5% fee if do pay with card. We were not aware of this until we got our bill...

Ok! Everyone should go here if you haven't already. We recently moved our daughter to this area and went here for lunch after a day of moving stuff. Outdoor patio area was great so we could have our 4 legged son with us. Our server Linda was attentive and great. The drinks and beer selection were great. The food all sounded amazing and what we got reflected that. I had the BEST PATTY MELT I've ever had in my life! And that started with the question from Linda "how do you want your patty cooked?" That is a definite indication that it's going to be good. AND IT WAS COOKED PERFECTLY RARE, like I ordered. My daughter got the grilled cheese with bacon and it was fantastic as well. My wife got the Turkey melt with apple butter and it was great for her. The fries were perfectly cooked and their ranch made them even better. WE WILL BE BACK

I went to yelp and was looking for somewhere to go and Brothers Cascadia stood out with all their options. The steak sando and the chicken sando both looked great so we ordered one of each and shared - boy they hit the spot! This is such a fun spot! A good balance of a neighborhood pub but also a place I could bring my kiddo and enjoy a basket of fries. Everyone on the staff was so friendly too. I look forward to coming back.

He enjoys playing dj with his curated music, which also had merit, but again was too loud for a weekday lunch. I'm not an old fart, (I think he and I were close to the same age) but old enough to have lost some hearing in my youth, and it was still a bit loud. The pork rinds were good, surprisingly generous and tasted very fresh. I liked the Tajin on them, but would have preferred it to be an option (shaker on the table) rather than just full coverage. I would have shared them, but the person I was dining with doesn't care do the spice. I ordered the bbq bacon cheeseburger with the sauce on the side and it was a generous portion, that was well-cooked. Just the way I ordered it! That being said, the beef was relatively tasteless and the whole sandwich was extremely greasy. The bacon on the sandwich was plentiful and not as greasy as the burger and cheese. I don't know the fries would be seasoned. It may or may not have been on the menu, I honestly can't recall. The place seemed well kept and customer oriented, food service wise, but the ambiance could be dialed down for the lunch crowd. If there was an alternate burger available nearby, I might not give Brothers a second chance. But I can't hate on it. Just a few too many flaws for the price, which was not cheap. Paying over $5 for a Mexican Coke was pretty steep since I didn't see any fountain options. But lastly, too be fair, the bartender was VERY kind!

Having been to places like Leavenworth and Mt. Angel so frequently (not to mention my trip to…read moreGermany a few years back) apparently made me a bit elitist when it came to Bavarian cuisine, and almost completely forget about Gustav's as a consequence. It was only today, when my boss took our department out to lunch here, was I reminded of how many things Gustav's does right, despite being a chain restaurant. The first reminder came in the form of the interior décor; I forgot how charming it is here: from the entrance to the bar and to the dining halls, there are few restaurants in Vancouver as immediately evocative and immersive in their aesthetics. Our server was friendly, welcoming and helpful in her suggestions, particularly for those members of our party to whom German cuisine is very unfamiliar. The food, by and large, is excellent, although the prices are a bit steep for some of the offerings: for example, the goulash is tied for the most expensive item on the menu, along with the Bavarian Feast. One of these dishes makes sense for the price point; the other does not. It's hard to go wrong with the feast, the wurst platter (in any combination), or any of the schnitzels, but sadly, the Kohlrouladen that I ordered (one of my absolute favorites) didn't quite live up to the high bar set by the same dish at Baren Haus in Leavenworth. The two rounds of fondue with sausage that we ordered as an appetizer were well-received (and thoroughly ravaged) by our party of eight in record time! And although I didn't partake (as I have a negative sweet tooth), a trio of desserts finished off our group's meal, and left everyone satisfied. Overall, Gustav does far more right than I remembered, or gave them credit for. Other than my nitpicks about one particular entrée, and some questionable pricing, everything else about Gustav's punches far above its weight class, especially when considering the fact that it is a chain. By that metric, they have no business being as fantastic as they are! With a couple of tweaks, such as a firmer commitment to embracing German authenticity, and toning down the prices a bit, Gustav's will absolutely have a lock on that fifth star that lies just barely outside their reach.
