Can I say this is the best toffee ice cream I've ever had! Its billed as toffee and chocolate chip but they are really HUGE chocolate CHUNKS with small toffee chunks in the best vanilla ever. Aaaa No! It shouldn't be just one '$' sign. It should have atleast two of those in pricing. This was my first time at the Graeter's and my first impression was it seemed like Starbucks for ice cream. Ha! So many people!! Well, that assured me that the ice cream must be very amazing to have such a great turnover. Graeter's have a good variety and many options. I picked '1870 Tower Signature Sundae'. It comes with chocolate cake with black raspberry chocolate chip ice cream and whipped cream with cherry on top and pecans. The lady who took my order informed me I can have any ice cream I want instead of raspberry. So I decided to go with strawberry instead. She made the sundae in front of me and it was done in no time. This costed around $7 with taxes and the quantity was decent, I guess. The sundae as a whole was pretty good. I enjoyed the chocolate cake layer more than ice cream to be honest. I saw a lot of people trying the black raspberry chocolate chip and I wondered if I should have not altered my order. So I went ahead and grabbed one of the Graeter's ice cream box in that flavor for $3.34. I tried it after reaching home, and it was delicious. Definitely must try this flavor!!! Worst ice cream I've ever had (no, really!). Most outrageous prices I've ever seen. Writing a review after four visits over the last couple of years (two of those times was with extended family / several people). In three of the four visits (several months between visits), the ice cream had extensive freezer burn (unpleasant tasting ice crystals). In this last visit, there was freezer burn on only about 50% of the ice cream. This is the only Graeter's I've ever been to, so not sure if this location has a food storage issue it can't get resolved, or if this is just how it is at Graeter's everywhere (based on how the ice cream is made?). In any case, freezer burn on any ice cream tastes awful, and Graeter's is no exception. An adult small (one "scoop"), standard flavor, costs $4.85 (amount includes tax) and is about 50% smaller than many local (non-chain) ice cream stores. It's fair to say that most people have a general idea of how big a scoop should be, and Graeter's is easily about half that. One scoop adult size here is about kid's cup size from many other stores. While taste is a personal preference, Graeter's ice cream is something between custard and real "hard" ice cream - it's much too creamy to be proper "hard" ice cream, and all of the several flavors I've sampled struck me as being overloaded with more sugar than seems customary. From a consistency and sugar perspective, it's kind of like if maple syrup was turned into ice cream. The basic chocolate-chip ice cream is the worst chocolate-chip I've ever had - worse than low-grade, artificially flavored store brand. There are way too many local ice cream places better than this: Sundae's Homemade Ice Cream near Geist (fantastic!) and CRAVE Ice Cream Social on Geist are worth the trips. Do yourself a favor and skip Graeter's. Service has always been friendly. Have been there when it's busy and when it's slow. The parking is a bit different, but once you figure out the paces to park, it's not that bad. Given the poor taste of the product and the crazy high prices, not sure how this place has stayed in business. read more

Holy scoops! The scoops are so generous, and the flavor options are excellent. My favorite vessel, however, is the pretzel cone -- absolutely delicious! Even though the lines can get really long, the staff at Graeter's really keep things moving. The ice cream also always tastes fresh. These are the things that I really appreciate, because when it comes down to it, I've rarely met an ice cream I didn't like. The store is clean and bright and the bathrooms are tidy as well. The majority of the flavors at Graeter's have chocolate chips. This is ordinarily a bit of a deal-breaker for me (hard chocolate chips in ice cream get all jammed in my molars -- I hate it -- pet peeve). Luckily, somehow the Graeter's chocolate chips are of a softer more chewy variety. So it actually kind of works for me. My only negative feedback about this store is that some of the employees could really help the store's image by cracking a smile. They all looked so sad and angry. My first time at Graeters and I loved it. Good variety of flavors and the ice cream was chocolatey and delicious. I love the nice areas to sit both inside and outside. I gave 4 stars because it was quite dirty both inside and outside. I realize ice cream is messy but most tables were covered in sticky ice cream smears and all the outdoor seating was the same. I can't say enough good things about this location. My mom has celiac disease, which requires a lot of accommodations to ensure there isn't cross-contamination, and it makes eating out a gamble. We mentioned the allergy to Grace B, and she was so incredibly helpful. She was willing to take every necessary precaution to make sure there wasn't any gluten contamination, and she did it all with a smile on her face. I know, I know, Graeter's in Indy is nothing new anymore...except my family's Cincinnati heritage makes my little heart happy every time a new one comes to town. As for what to order, get anything in their "chip" menu (as in "chocolate chip", except these are more like rich, yummy chocolate boulders). You really can't go wrong. But flavors like Black Raspberry Chip and Buckeye Blitz are what Graeter's is famous for, and you can get basic ice cream anywhere. Bonus to this location: the perfect spot after a show at the Palladium or if you want a stroll on the Monon! LOVE having Graeter's nearby! After a blackout on a summer evening, we gathered the family and the pups up for a car ride to another nearby ice cream place (funny how it takes a power outage to have nice family time. No TV! No charging cell phones!). Well, so had everyone else. Deciding that the wait for Plan A was ridiculous for having other choices available, we quickly changed directions after finding Graeter's on here. Graeter's has never disappointed, and there was no line! Though I'm sure we just lucked out. Their flavors are a wide variety. The four of us got different flavors and we all had little tastes of each one. I also love all the merchandise available. My favorite was the pint koozies-- genius! Perfect way to eat a "personal" pint and not suffer frozen hands. ;) Bonus- there is an outdoor patio so our dogs could sit with us and clean up any drips from our cones. Graeter's has a prime spot on Rangeline where the CarmelFest parade goes by on the Fourth.
