Terrible experience. In the past it was different. Got an estimate to move out of a 3 bedroom apartment with one small closet and no storage locker. Over $4,000.00 to Pack, move and unpack. Was told it would take 2 days. By 4 or 5 pm the second day I was told they couldn't finish and would send someone Thursday (2 days later) because whomever they were moving today (Wednesday) was obviously more important. Couldn't get confirmation for Thursday because the boss in charge of my job was at a meeting with Kaiser (more important then us working people - global corporations have all the power - ask the President). I asked to be called that evening and got nothing, not even, we will call in the morning when we know, absolutely no courtesy. Had to start calling today and didn't hear anything until 1:30PM and was told I was mean to the workers I tipped $100.00 each both days - $600.00. I was told at either 4 or 5PM the 2nd day that they were leaving in an hour and wouldn't finish. Unpacked clothes from dresser and found them on top shelf of closet. Took hour and a half to find pants. Stil have not found tooth brush or tooth paste or anything in my bathroom. Left the place a wreck and I was angry after being told I was paying for a 2 day move and going 4 days and counting. Today I spent from 8 until after 1 emptying boxes looking for stuff I need, in mislabeled Boxes - their job. I asked If I would get a financial break because I am unpacking to make my life live able which I already paid for. Boxes were labeled incorrectly which caused a tremendous waist of time. Ask the guys 2 or 3 things. Leave coffe out, don't pack the old place's remote and whatever I said to them was never written down and ignored. As the customer I was given grief today for getting angry. I did not get what I was sold and my job today became theres. They would not discuss any type of financial reimbursement. I asked if he would drop $50.00 of a $4000.00 plus job and got nothing but "don't sweat the small stuff". In my opinion there are too many professional movers that will treat you with dignity. We just moved / combined our two households (recently married) -- from the Bay Area (SF) to a small town near Ashland, Oregon. It was a HUGE move. To save money we packed ourselves (we're good at this). However, the entire move WAS blessed by the tremendous staff and workers from Graf Van and Storage. Their estimator was totally professional. He assessed the weight of our move (both an 8x40' container AND our whole 1,300 sq.ft. apartment) within a hundred pounds of what it turned out to be. Lots of movers do low-ball estimating and then nail the customer when the ACTUAL weight (in our case, at the CA/OR border) comes in much higher. Professional, accurate and HONEST -- that's Graf. The moving-out team was: careful, efficient, very smart, personable and even funny at times (which helped our sanity). Tony Perry was the on-site supervisor at both ends; we can't say enough about HIM: VERY together, a pro, on top of everything from start to finish and very kind. Out of a 17,000 pound load, the glass in ONE single picture got cracked. That is ASTOUNDINGLY good moving. (Yes, we packed well, but the staging of the van was SO intelligent). The moving-in team (also led by Tony) was also careful, efficient and had great 'work ethic.' What more can one say? We're in our late 60's and early 70's. This move was exhausting for us (self-packing), but Tony and his two crews were a godsend. Regarding the bad review on this site, I really think that we get back from the Universe the energy we put out there. For, with ANY mover (or other vendor), if you're polite, thorough, a good communicator and VERY pro-active YOURSELF (i.e., as the customer, TAKING RESPONSIBILITY for the project) -- then any good vendor will shine back, as part of 'the team.' The teamwork we assisted with AND GOT BACK from Graf was outstanding. The March (bad) reviewer appears to me both inexperienced and judgmental. Moving is a pain, but not with Graf Van & Storage. Pete was great with communication and confirming our move date a few days before the move. The real treat was the 3 movers that arrived at our house. Enrique and his crew were calm, cool and collective. They said they understood how moving is stressful, but they where here to help ease the stress and take care of our belongings for the big move. The thing is, they truly meant it and did just that. They took care of our things and kept professional from beginning to end. Also, the way they packed the moving truck was was nothing short of amazing. Experience is key and they excelled in effectively stacking everything so it was all protected for the journey. No drama or hidden fees. Update (9/18/18): I'm writing another update because I feel it is fitting given the conversation I had this afternoon with Pete (did not get his position; he reached out to me). Pete called me this morning to talk about this same Yelp review and express to me that he did not agree with the sentiment behind it and if we could talk about the circumstances, which I was happy to oblige. I explained to him that the fees and costs associated with the move were not what I was disappointed in, but the fact that they weren't expressly presented to me in a clear and concise manner, and that I felt like they were surprises, even if they were routine charges. I also told him that it would have been appreciated to get a call-back when I first reached out, instead of only getting a call and explanation after having written a review here on Yelp. He totally understood and seemed sympathetic towards my experience. Because I also work in customer service, we talked about the situation as a relatable scenario that we've both faced on a business and a customer stand-point, and we eventually took something away from this whole thing. Pete informed me that he agreed with my complaints, especially regarding the ridiculous 3.5 hour billing for moving my bed, dresser, and cat tree into storage, but wished I had gone about it in a different way, and I then told him that unfortunately, the only way to actually discuss the situation seemed to have been to write a review, and we understood each other's perspectives. Ultimately it was a progressive and enlightening conversation and we both got some lessons in the matter, so this is my final review. I let Pete know that we do understand each other, but that I could not in good conscience remove the entire review since it was my personal experience (and this review would not make any sense without prior knowledge), but I was more than happy to make some amendments to my previous reviews. So, here's a break-down: 1 star for the awesome movers who were friendly, careful, and thorough, and for making sure my move was seamless and effortless. 1 star for Pete getting back to me personally so that we could sort through my complaints (which is what I wanted in the first place) 1 star for making as much right as possible given the circumstances 1 star deducted for what I felt like were hidden fees in the first place ("surprise" charges, in my eyes) 1 star deducted for the lack of communication up until my review got put through To wrap up, I think if I had been given all charges and fees in estimate form so I could better understand the necessary costs up-front, I would have chosen a different company purely based on cost to me and called it good. When I did go in for the initial quote, everyone was extremely nice and they did squeeze my move into a small gap in their schedule, which I very much appreciated; it would have just been a little bit out of my budget given my situation at the time. I guess Graf typically does bigger moves and the small, local move that I had was a bit out of the ordinary (which I did not know until my conversation with Pete). My move itself went superbly, it was just a number of smaller issues that could have been avoided on both sides, and I will take that lesson with me for my next move. read more

I cannot begin to express how smooth and easy my move from California to South Carolina has been. From the moment that Rich met me at my storage unit, I knew that his family business was the one to trust. Rich's communication was easy and thorough and responsive. His guys were AWESOME on the day of the move. Totally efficient, professional, careful, and a good attitude throughout the day. Honestly, I told my friends and family that the day that they moved all my stuff was one of the most relaxed days I'd had in weeks. I literally didn't lift a thing and they took care of repacking anything that could possibly be damaged. Also, I never felt pressured to sign on with them. To top it off, Rich's sister and brother-in-law (and their dog) were super fun and friendly when I stopped by their office to sign some papers. I wasn't in SC to receive my stuff, but my neighbors said that the 3 person team, lead by Eddy, was fast, efficient, easy and fun. Can't beat that! Thanks to Rich and the whole team. read more

We have moved many times over the past 10 years...relocating our household from California to North Carolina and back, within the Bay Area and, most recently, from the Bay Area to Central Orgeon. We have used Graf Moving and Storage for all but one of these move (my husband's company selected the mover) and are very pleased with their services. In all cases, the moves were full service and included packing, transport, unloading and reassembling furniture at the destination. From the early discussions scheduling the move to the estimates and execution of the move, the staff were friendly, courteous, flexible and knowledgeable. They happily and with humor accomodated changes in schedle, destination and storage needs. In one case, we arrived at the location only to be told that the home was not ready for move in. We checked into a hotel while the Graf crew delivered our belongings to storage and rescheduled our delivery. They even helped us go through our stuff to pull items that we would need in the intervening time. They were similarly helpful for another move in which close of escrow was delayed and our belongings moved into storage. These guys are terrific! The staff and crew are great to work with. They are efficient and professional at all times. Our possessions were always carefully packed, wrapped, boxed and managed. In all the moves, only one item sustained a minor scratch and this was promptly repaired. Thanks guys for making all of our transitions absolutely seamless. read more

They arrived unprepared to handle several of the larger furniture items and by the end of the day left several of our belongings behind, due to the company not sending enough trucks. We had to arrange for a second company to finish the move. However, the three movers were hard-working and friendly. They arrived on time and worked until well after 9 pm the first day, staying until after 6 pm the second day. read more

We have never used a moving service before so we were very nervous especially since we were on such a tight time frame to be out of our house and get into our new home in Nevada. We met with several movers to get estimates all were very nice and some more punctual than others. Pete was very professional and responsive. We we received a good price from Pete but that wasn't the only reason we selected graf there reviews were also better than others. The move went as smooth as we could have ever hoped for. They showed up on time and had our complete house packed up by 330. They showed up on time at our new home after a day of travel and had everything unloaded by just after noon. Pete and the Team are AMAZING! My wife and I had a very complex move involving most of our household goods being shipped across country from California to Maryland, but also including some items going into storage and then being moved later to Southern California. Every aspect of our move was on time, on budget, and handled by genuinely gracious and courteous workers. On both ends of our big move, Graf had to load into smaller trucks to transport our goods to and from the 18 wheeler because it would not fit at either end of the move. Everything was perfect!! I've done six cross country moves over the years and our experience with Pete and his crew was by far the best we've had. The drivers Juan and Rosario were fantastic! I've most often had better experiences when we used United. We relocated to Scottsdale and the crews on both ends were top notch. This review is a few months overdue but I really wanted to get it online because we were so impressed. Pete and his crew were over and above our expectations. They moved our offices in one day with great expediency and efficiency. They had everything they needed, arrived on time, finished faster than expected and charged us LESS than the estimate. They even offered to take a few things back to the warehouse overnight and drop them in Mill Valley the next day for a reasonable rate! Our move was OK, but the United Van Lines corporate has been pretty unresponsive in handling our claim for damages. We filed a claim for minor damages on 6/21/2016 and it is now 9/23/2016 and we have to keep calling them to try to get some action. To this point they have not sent anyone to look at about a dozen things that were damaged. It is less than $400 so not a huge deal. I can't imagine the stalling tactics they would take if it were more substantial. read more

Terrible. Mr. Irving promised us four men for eight hours for a move in the Santa Rosa area around Wednesday, May 20, 2015. We told him in advance that we had a large, heavy (~1,000 lbs.) safe. He told us that he had the right equipment (safe dolly/jack) to move the safe. The crew showed up about a half-hour late. The crew worked for four hours, instead of the eight hours I was promised and for which I was charged, and did not move the safe. Mr. Irving complained that I did not tell him how hard it would be to move the safe! What?! Anyone who is was half-way competent - not to mention honest - would not lie about having the right equipment to move a heavy object, about which he'd been fully informed. His crew could not physically lift the safe without a safe jack. Of course not! How stupid! Why would anyone try? He endangered his crew's safety, lied to me, and defrauded me regarding our contract. When I complained to him, Mr. Irving was completely uninterested, and said that all of his reviews (Graf Van & Storage) were great. Well, now that I'm looking at various reviews on the Internet (and this Yelp site, in particular), I see that that was just another misrepresentation. Other people have apparently also been defrauded by Mr. Irving. I see a pattern in the reviews when it comes to sticking around to finish the job, and also regarding moving heavy objects. He also misrepresented how close he was to our location. Don't waste your money. Look elsewhere. Do not hire Graf Van & Storage. read more
