I absolutely loved this place since the moment i saw it. We were ubering and the place stood out like a little white glass box in the gloom of a rainy NYC day. We immediately stopped the uber and went in. The place was so busy! However it was easy to get a table. The servers are extremely nice and they run up and down to serve. We ordered the chicken and waffle and an omelette with hash. The food was ok. We have a thing where if we have to add salt and pepper then that means the place does not have an identity or iconic flavor profile. The waffle were a bit dry and they give a small little jar of syrup that does no justice. I wish they had cheap syrup that could actually soak the dry waffle. I was also disappointed that i got tenders and not chicken pieces like you would expect. The extra side of scrambled eggs was nothing to rave about either. However the sauce tat came with the tenders was the real star. It was sweet and sour with flavors reminiscent of the south but also of the orient cultures. I really enjoyed it. Overall i would recommend this place but since it is so pretty it always busy. Getting a coffee refill is a struggle. So you pick your battle...eat so so food at a really good looking place or go somewhere else for great food but that doesn't look as pretty. I say go! read more

We have been cooking mostly at home and using seamless but heard they were still charging restaurants a large % so decided to use a local place where we could pick up. I have learned that they really shine at breakfast. Our orders came out fast, and the meat sides are a large portion for $4. Lots of choices, too: bacon, ham, sausage, country ham, Canadian bacon... 2 eggs, (excellent) home fries, and toast will set you back $7, which used to be crazy expensive, but I guess is the new normal. A diner can be judged by their home fries, and Gramercy Kitchen has really good ones. They have a nice crust, and are cooked with onion and something green (parsley? green pepper?). Our omelets, potatoes, and toast were cold. The cold omelet had orange American "cheese" in it, thought I'd asked for cheddar (which is an option on the menu). Wow what an awful experience. Started out fine, seated quickly on a busy New Years day lunch rush but then the server came over. We placed our order all at once waited 20 minutes for cups of coffee and water and then 20 more minutes went by without us seeing our server anywhere in the restaurant. When he finally came back over we asked if we could get the soup and fries we had ordered out before the rest of our food, he said he actually HADNT EVEN PUT IN OUR ORDER YET!! He forgot the entire order, took it again, put it in, and disappeared for another 45 minutes. Food came out and all I can say is it was edible, but barely (The cream cheese was just slapped onto the bagel not even spread around, like come on!!). When we got the bill we asked the waiter if he could take off the fries or one of the entrees because we had waited almost 2 hours to eat with no explanation or service, he took off the 3$ coffees... All around the worst diner experience I've ever had, the place was not short handed for the busy shift but the staff they had was entirely incompetent and there was no manager anywhere to direct anyone or help field complaints. I really feel the price was decent but the waitress acted irritated I didn't understand what she said and was quite cold and unfriendly. Long time customer of this recently renovated diner. It's located near by ENT's office and on mornings when I see my doc before work, I like to come here after my appointments and before work for a quick bite. This is your typical run of the mill diner with reliable breakfast foods. I have never been here for anything but breakfast but it has always been a great experience. My favorite place to sit is in the sun drenched little corner with floor to ceiling glass. Feels like you are dining outside and the vibe is really relaxing. I came in here after a check up for some tea and breakfast. I had a toasted bagel with egg whites and bacon. The service was friendly and quick. I dined alone and loved every minute of it. The prices are really affordable in my opinion as my breakfast and tea cost me a mere $8 with tax. A great option for breakfast if you are in the area. How does a diner that's been open forever screw up a grilled cheese sandwich...when the whole restaurant is nearly empty except one other table...and have the balls to charge $17 for it? The waitress was rude when I asked her to correct her mistake and the replacement was even sadder than the first excuse for a grilled cheese. Cute that she and her waitress buddies had fun teaching the cooks words in their native language, but not cute that my sandwich sucked and I had to wait 30 minutes for it (despite being only one of two people in the restaurant). Best of all it arrived with a very long brown hair on it. Gross. I actually only eat here every three years, and it's usually completely by accident, because it takes me that long to forget how bad the food is. I want old school NYC spots to thrive, please do better. Also the owner took my original review down because it mentioned other restaurants. Lame. Get some gorgeous gnocchi on the same avenue, just two blocks downtown on the east side of the street. You won't be sorry. It's $9 and it's awesome. read more

Very nice place for breakfast. Fast friendly service, fresh food and tasty. I got avocado egg toast. It looked pretty and tasted delicious. It comes with two slices of wheat bread , I think, spread with mashed avocado and you have a choice of eggs mixed in with the avocado or two sunny side ups on each slice. I got the fried eggs and it looked so pretty when I poked the egg yolks, it oozed out beautiful. The second order was fried egg sandwich, it came in Kaiser roll and looked simple but I'm sure delicious. The third order was yogurt berry parfait, looked pretty and the person who had it, loved it! I'm a lover of breakfast and, therefore, an appreciator of diners and casual breakfast spots. Since Gramercy Kitchen was too far away and I had a friend in town, I decided we should come check it out. And I'll admit that this place is good but not great. The location is pretty nice being right on 3rd Ave. The building has a lot of glass, so it's not uncommon for you to be sat next to a window where you can watch the Gramercy folk walk their dogs as you have your breakfast. My friend and I were seated immediately and each ordered your typical American breakfast of eggs, bacon, home fries, and a cup of coffee. The food came out fairly quickly and our server was nice enough (but he didn't say much). The food was pretty good and at the level you'd expect for a diner. However, my friend and I both agreed that the portions seemed kind of small given the price. Maybe we've just been spoiled by all those diners that say "2 egg breakfast" but they really give you 3 eggs ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The crowd seemed like a nice combination of people from the neighborhood (young, old, families) which is nice to see. But, for me, something was missing. So, if you're in a pinch, Gramercy Kitchen will definitely satisfy your morning breakfast needs. But if you're looking for something a little nicer or more generous with portions, you may need to put your name on the wait-list somewhere close-by. read more
