Went to Grey Dog with two friends and were seated right away. Our server was very nice and attentive throughout the meal! We started with drinks: their versions of a Moscow Mule and Gin & Tonic. Both were cutely presented, well made, generously sized, refreshing, and extremely tasty. For food, we ordered a variety of appetizers to share, including the spinach dip, saucy nuggets, disco tots, Green Goddess salad (their version), and Brussels sprouts. Everything was super tasty with mostly good portions. My only small complaint was that I wished there had been more chips for the dip. Overall, I was impressed and would happily order everything again, with the exception of the nuggets. They were good, but I've had better chicken at plenty of other places. They were a bit dry and slightly less flavorful than I expected, but by no means bad. Unfortunately, the dining experience took a wild turn when a cockroach was crawling on the wall right next to where my friend was sitting. The waiter gasped right along with us and tried to catch it in a cup. It got away and scuttled beneath several tables before ultimately escaping the wrath of humans. While it's certainly not ideal to see in a dining establishment, I was willing to understand it as a hot New York summer day, especially with patrons frequently moving between the indoor and outdoor dining areas. However, before leaving, my friends and I went to use the restroom and while waiting another guest ran out screaming that there were water bugs inside. At that point we very promptly left. I really liked the chill, cute vibe, chatty atmosphere, solid drinks, and good food. Unfortunately, the bugs have left me squirming and reconsidering a return visit. I ordered the roasted beet salad and a hot cocoa. The hot cocoa was reallllly good, and had a cute little dog paw emblem. The beat salad was phenomenal. They have an expansive menu, with generous portions, and prices that aren't too outrageous for prime Manhattan. I got their "Grey Dog Breakfast" which has well, a lot of everything: French Toast, Bacon, Eggs, and Potatoes. The French toast was delicious, coated with powdered sugar, and satisfying without being too heavy. I would have liked my eggs a bit more runny and my bacon less crispy, but those are more of a personal preference, so no complaints there. This is a good spot with classic brunch foods in Union Square. We came here on a Sunday at noon and the place was packed. We had a reservation and were seated immediately, but there were people waiting on our table when we left, so I'd definitely recommend making a reservation in advance. It was kind of slow because our friend got the wrong location (make sure to double check beforehand!!) so we missed our grace period, but the staff was super nice about getting us seated at the next available table!! Let me first say that I love the grey dog. It was the breakfast that made me a fan back in 2016-17 AND since it's been awhile, I had to go back BUT to try the dinner/entree options. This is one of their smaller locations and although they were BUSY, we were still able to make last minute reservations and get seated asap. The burger was... good, if you just want a decent burger. However, the Philly wrap was really delicious so I'll recommend that. The Bloody Mary was delicious also (Bellini also), you'll be surprised how many places mess up the BM - so big shoutout to the grey dog for that. This is a place I'll forever come back to. This place was kind of a train wreck to be honest, which is a shame since I was really looking forward to it. I came here for weekend brunch (note: breakfast is served all day everyday too) with a friend. The restaurant was small with some outdoor seating as well. The aesthetic was hipster with a lot of random travel-related decor, like license plates ñ, maps,etc. Originally my friend asked to sit by the window and they told us that they usually save that spot for larger parties but they were able to accommodate. About five minutes later, a different server came and told us they were expecting a few large parties and we had to move. Very unapologetic about it and frankly, rude. They didn't even move our plates or silverware or transfer the water over. It was an inconvenience for us to have to move especially after being told by another waiter that we could sit there. When it came time to order, my friend ordered the vegan chicken and sweet potato beignets with a spicy kale salad and chai latte. I needed more time to order so I ordered after the waitress came out with the latte. Unfortunately they brought my friend the wrong latte.... They gave him a coffee latte instead of a chai latte, so we asked them to swap it out. Shortly after swapping out the drink, the waitress returned his food. I was left without my food for another twenty minutes. Not sure why they didn't bring both plates out at once...one waiter also wanted to clear his plate before he was even done eating. For my meal I had an egg white omelette with toast and salad. It was very run of the mill. My friend said the vegan chicken was good and tasted a lot like real chicken, but he was expecting the beignets to be more creative. They just tasted like regular sweet potato, which was disappointing. Overall, I don't think I'd return to this location. It's a fine brunch spot if you want the usual brunchy items like eggs and pancakes but it wasn't super memorable and the service lacked a lot to be desired. read more

I wasn't sure what the theme was -- it felt somewhat midwestern but then had nods to New England and Cape Cod. Either way I was a fan. I'm a connoisseur of all things Grey Dog but I believe this is my favorite location, a cozy space full of comfortable little nooks. Gilbert is a gracious and friendly host, and Lucy is kind, charming, and always a pleasure to see. I've never been disappointed by a Grey Dog order--and every time I order something I've never tried before I'm like DANG this is GOOD! There's always something surprising--preparation, freshness, some little creative spin on what you'd expect. Yesterday for example I tried for the first time the roasted beets--a large serving of both red and yellow beets, perfectly cooked--and the garlic shrimp. I expected the usual forgettable appetizer shrimp in a pond of garlic and butter. But these shrimp were fresh and tender, the butter sauce had a lemon complexity, and the dish was served with a side of delicious grilled (I think) buttery toast points. Personal Grey Dog favorites: the roasted turkey sandwich with apple and bacon jam. The chicken soup with meatballs. The fired artichokes, the fried brussels sprouts--all lightly fried so you feel like you are in fact eating vegetables except tastier. The sticky nuggs are to die for--crispy fried chicken nuggets with a sweet sticky sauce. The breakfasts are amazing, likewise the bowls and salads. Grey Dog is very reasonably priced, plus there's a drinks and bites happy hour with discounted prices (but not smaller portions like most places). Thanks Grey Dog! The tables are packed so tightly that I kept making awkward eye contact with the table next to us every time they laughed. We asked the waitress if we could move to another table my husband spotted, but she told us it was for 4-5 guests--even though it looked pretty small.
