Online Ordered and picked up for the lunch at The Grey Dog. It's vibrant and buzzing inside. Small place but nice and welcoming vibes. Reservation is highly recommend. The food was ready in 15'mins. I got buttermilk chicken sandwich with fries. The chipotle sauce on top was great. A little kick but not too spicy. The sauce works with the chicken the slaw and carrots. It gave some depth and not just plain chicken sandwich. Fries were great. Crispy outside and soft inside. Overall a great spot for lunch.

This neighborhood American cafe in the Union Square, NYU area of NYC offers huge food portions in a cute eclectic atmosphere. They serve all day breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner with hours 8am to 9pm daily. I had the Vegan Burger with the side salad $18.50. It was fresh, plentiful and delicious. I did order an extra honey mustard sauce .50 to add to my burger. The service was very friendly and efficient.

Excellent service :) They all are really nice, Friendly, eve-contacts warmed cared! It was amazing for brunch, they were so lively around 10:30 am on Monday- so lucky we got a sheet by just walking in. They had been changing some inside layout? I haven't been there for so long. But still amazingly cozy. I love this color pallet in the restaurant. Had a salty maple pancake it was huge and so good! The Nicest American breakfast spot around union square for sure :)!!

Had a great experience here! Went on a solo date when they first opened! Loved the service, and the food and I would come back here with friends. The compote that came with French toast was DEVINE! I wish they had a meat option that wasn't just bacon or sausage but I appreciate that avocado was the substitute.

I ordered the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich and the French toast for takeout. The buttermilk fried chicken sandwich was good. I chose to get it with seeded sourdough bread that was grilled. The sandwich had good sauce and fresh coleslaw. It was served with thick fries. The French toast was not a winner; it was too bready. The egg mixture had not fully saturated the thick bread before cooking, and the center was just raw bread. Also, the raspberry orange syrup served with it was too bitter for my liking. The food definitely has a rustic spin, and if you fancy artisan flavors, then you will like Grey Dog. If you are dining in, it has a great atmosphere and friendly service. There is also outside patio seating to enjoy the warm weather and they have happy hour.

Our group of 6 dropped by Grey Dogs for tasty Saturday brunch - thankfully we made a reservation because without it the line and wait sounded super long. Grey dog delivers huge brunch portions with tasty food. I got the chilaquiles that definitely had a little bit of a kick. There were so many brunch options, there will likely be something for everyone. Grey dog union square is a little small and tight, but the setting is cozy and great for brunch plans granted you make reservations beforehand. They will ask for your table back after your allocated time if you come during their busy hours.

I stopped by here, solo, after an amazing workout session at BodyRok. I was walking in the area on a Saturday morning, and saw this place was busy so I blindly decided to give it a try. I was there at around 9:30 am, before the crowd, and the server let me pick my seat. I chose the comfiest seat next to the window so I could people watch. I ordered the roasted beet salad and a hot cocoa. The hot cocoa was reallllly good, and had a cute little dog paw emblem. The beat salad was phenomenal. I stayed for over an hour, and did not feel pressured or bothered in any way. I really enjoyed myself as a solo diner here. When I left around 11, the place was completely booked and there appeared to be a wait. Definitely worth the stop for a breakfast bite!

Came for dinner and food was average. There aren't that many dinner items on the menu and I'd definitely recommend this more for brunch. I got the Mexican bowl which was fine but nothing special. My friend has a gluten allergy and the kitchen was very accommodating.

I had a Reservation for 4 on Juneteenth at 12:30pm, and it was really packed. A party of 4 who was trying to walk in was told it would be a 45 minute wait. I ordered the fried chicken & johnny cakes as that was entirely gluten free. Each component of the dish, by itself, was whack. However, when you get a piece of everything on your fork and take a bite, it's pretty good. It has a unique flavor combination. Be aware of which table you get seated at. My group was seated at this table to the right of the bar, under some black pipes on the ceiling. There was a lot of condesation on the pipes so me and my friend who were sitting next to the wall were getting water dropped on us every few minutes

I love a good cozy diner, and the Grey Dog is one of my favorites. Each of their locations in the city has its own charm, and this location, despite being in the middle of Union Square, is a nice place to getaway from the busy streets. I was able to get a seat for 2 relatively easily for Friday around brunch time, but it was still quite lively inside. They have an expansive menu, with generous portions, and prices that aren't too outrageous for prime Manhattan. I got their "Grey Dog Breakfast" which has well, a lot of everything: French Toast, Bacon, Eggs, and Potatoes. The French toast was delicious, coated with powdered sugar, and satisfying without being too heavy. I would have liked my eggs a bit more runny and my bacon less crispy, but those are more of a personal preference, so no complaints there. Overall I was happy with my visit and look forward to returning soon (just not on weekends, they get really busy then).

Ambiance - very cute decor. Tables are shoulder to shoulder. They have outside seatings, but too cold for us to sit outside. The restaurant get full fast. Service - very friendly, and very attentive. Very pleasant Food - not bad, a good place for a brunch and get tocomfortlpretry presentations

This is a good spot with classic brunch foods in Union Square. We came here on a Sunday at noon and the place was packed. We had a reservation and were seated immediately, but there were people waiting on our table when we left, so I'd definitely recommend making a reservation in advance. I got a classic omelette with mushrooms, tomato, and peppers (your choice of 3 fillings), which came with a generous amount of home fries and toast. Everything was tasty and fresh and a very filling large portion. Service was good and the decor was cute.

Q for the owner: Are well-behaved dogs on a leash allowed inside the cafe?

Technically no, the department of health prohibits it. But service dogs are allowed, and by law, we can’t ask for confirmation.

    Do they take reservations?

No but we have been seating people very quickly this year :)

Is this place actually dog friendly?

The place is dog friendly, according to an associate I spoke to over the phone

The…read morepull apart truffle monkey bread was our initial reason for coming, and although the price point was quite steep, I would say it's worth the try. The bread was fluffy and not dry, which I had seen previous reviews say before. Paired with the creamy truffle butter, it had a luxurious mouthfeel. My favorite was the pork chop (cognac, sweet prunes, bacon, rosemary) -- the sweet and soft texture of the prune was melted in my mouth like fat, and the pork was tender, with the rosemary also coming through. The vodka rigatoni was a skip, somewhat bland and one-note, we ended up putting some of the truffle butter and garlic aioli from the fries to make it more flavorful. This was especially in contrast with the spicy shrimp pasta which was much tastier. Also got the strawberry vacherin (strawberry ice cream, meringue, vanilla whipped cream), it was my first time having this dessert. The tartness of the strawberry was great with the fluffy meringue and the sweet ice cream. Service was extremely attentive, and the restaurant is beautifully decorated with moody lighting. Although the space was packed, it didn't feel too loud or crowded. We spent about two hours and didn't feel rushed.

I went on a Thursday night, and the place was absolutely packed. The front feels more like a bar/casual area, while the dining room is tucked toward the back. My reservation was at 10:15 PM, so I actually had a light dinner beforehand and ordered a little lighter than I normally would. I got: - Truffle Monkey Bread ($34.99) - Prime Rib French Dip ($39.99) - Pommes Frites ($13.99) - Banana Split Sundae ($24.99) I thought the prices were definitely on the higher end when I first sat down, but the Truffle Monkey Bread is divine! Honestly, it's probably in my top 3 bread experiences of my life. If you love truffle, butter, cheese, and basically everything good in life, please get this. It comes out slightly warm and is just incredible. I will probably dream about this bread. The French Dip was good, although it was a little too salty for me. If I get the chance to come back, I'd probably try one of their actual steaks instead. The pommes frites were super crispy, basically McDonald's fries but elevated. The Banana Split Sundae was so pretty. I loved how they placed all the little treats around the crevices/imprints of the dish (not sure how else to describe it ). It's huge, though, so definitely don't expect to finish it yourself. I'd recommend sharing it with 3+ people. I was also celebrating an anniversary, and they brought out a strawberry scoop for us. It tasted homemade and really fresh. I could actually see pieces of strawberry in it, which I loved. The restaurant is definitely on the pricier side, and getting a dinner reservation can be a struggle, but I'd absolutely go again if I got the chance. The decor is cozy and upscale, the food was excellent, and the whole place has a really nice atmosphere. My only real complaint was that our waitress kept pushing us to order more, which got a little annoying, especially since we had already ordered quite a bit. Overall: expensive + difficult reservation, but absolutely worth trying. And please get the truffle monkey bread.

Ambiance: This place has a nice ambiance, definitely very "New York" -- dark (you can't see how dirty the floor is) and loud music (maybe too loud). We sat upstairs (we had a reservation) and of all the people on the top there was a party of 4 (us), a party of 8 (all dudes celebrating something) and the rest of the tables were on a DATE - which I thought was funny. Service: We were served by Ann-Marie who was so delightful. She was kind, super nice, and took the time to speak to us (which is basically how we figured out she wasn't a native New York City person). She gave us good food suggestions and we were very happy with our selection. Food: Here is what we ordered * Steak Frites: My two boys got the steak frites and I have to say the steak was awesome! I had a bite of each of theirs and they each ordered it differently (one Medium Rare/Medium and one Medium) and they both were prepared PERFECTLY. The fries were overflowing. * Caeser Salad with Salmon: My wife got the salad with Salmon (they only have a few salad options) and she enjoyed it. * Prawn and Crab Risotto: I got this and I have to say it was VERY bland. I wouldn't get this if you are looking for taste. I had to put salt and pepper on it to make it have any semblance of taste. Value/Price: I would say this is not over priced but it is not cheap either...bill is attached. I would recommend it to folks who are looking for a good place to either go out on a date or a family type meal.

Did an earlier dinner on a Saturday with a friend at the bar. We got some similar items, some different. The thing I kept the same was my martinis and all three (sour cream and onion, tomato, and espresso) were just as amazing as ever. Food-wise, I stuck mainly to the classics with one new dish: - Pizza rolls: Very good but 3 pizza rolls for $20 felt small to me. I feel like I remember seeing others served more when I've gone in the past, but not completely sure. They're nostalgic and fun, nothing to die for. - Fries: Great as ever, we opted for just one of the sauces (avocado dill). - French Dip: This used to be cut in 3 pieces and now it's 2. Works well with a duo but I do think it's actually a little smaller now than before when I compare photos. - Samoa sundae: Still amazing, still so so worth. It was fun going with a friend who hadn't been before and seeing the joy upon trying the dish! Bar service is friendly as always and they do a decent job moving you along to ensure the necessary turnover without feeling too rushed.

Walking up after greeting you, the first question the door guy asks is if you have a reservation. After being let in (once you said yes), there is a another line at the host stand to verify the reservations, then to be seated. This area is a narrow space between the bar and the staff behind the podium so there will still be a smaller wait outside for those waiting to get in due to tight space. Once seated, the bartender Meaghan came over immediately to greet us, offering sparkling, still or tap water. Alongside your glass, there was a selection of citrus (lemon/lime/orange) or cucumber to add which was a nice touch. Although I already had an idea of what I wanted, I went a completely different direction once she mentioned the off-menu selections. This ended up being the heirloom tomato salad (I know, when the heck have I ever ordered anything like this) which was $20, and a side of their hand-cut fries, $13.95. You are to order everything at once, and they course it out accordingly. The people next to me ordered a lot of food; most of it the popular items which I veered away from with the exception of the fries. The party on the other side went with two items I was considering prior so it was nice to see what these looked like up close. The tomato salad was very good! I normally scrape off onions but I actually ate all of them and the taste didn't 'stay with you' which I was grateful for, while the basil flavor was a nice contrast. These were the larger beefsteak style tomatoes so I was fork and knifing this dish. I will admit this, along with the fries, were a little more salty than what I am used to but it was delicious overall. I almost considered a sauce with the fries but they honestly did not need it; the flavor was more than enough on their own. Wasn't planning on it, but I ended up adding the apple hand pies ($19) which were pretty good. They didn't have anything really chocolate-based, so this was the next best thing. Since they come in an order of two, I ended up taking the other hand pie to go. Restrooms are right past the bar, down a flight of steps and there are two single-sex doors. If you are seated at the bar, you pretty much have no reason to go past that into the dining room so it felt like a subtle off-limit area (and staff was there to direct you where to go). Truth is, I really didn't want to like this place. I didn't want to have to deal with scoring a reservation in the future however the food I had was decent (and there are still some items I want to try), service from the doorman, Meaghan, the food runners, and hostesses was fantastic, and the atmosphere was great. You may also end up talking to fellow diners comparing dishes, and it made for an enjoyable experience all around. I'd say it was worth it.
