Food portions were absolutely tiny. I ordered the quinoa bowl with salad and salmon. They gave me the smallest sprinkle of quinoa. You would think that this meal would come with a substantial amount of quinoa. It was barely a spoonful. The salad was okay. The salmon was okay, not great. I think it was way over priced for what it was. Additionally, the tables are so squished in there. You can't move. Good thing I'm a small person or I would have had a real issue sitting there. I came here during my visit in October and happened to stop by just out of curiosity and I'm so glad I did, they had their limited time pumpkin pancakes which were by far the best pancakes I've ever tasted that put ihop to shame. I have learned that they really shine at breakfast. Our orders came out fast, and the meat sides are a large portion for $4. Lots of choices, too: bacon, ham, sausage, country ham, Canadian bacon... 2 eggs, (excellent) home fries, and toast will set you back $7, which used to be crazy expensive, but I guess is the new normal. A diner can be judged by their home fries, and Gramercy Kitchen has really good ones. They have a nice crust, and are cooked with onion and something green (parsley? green pepper?). Went here after a day of moving into an apt just down the street - so in other words it was handy:) We went there near closing time which perhaps left us less than popular but we did ask to make sure it was okay to sit down and were not turned away. Now of course it is a diner so we are not looking for Michelin Star cuisine however, I do wish I had just ordered eggs as that is very hard to screw up. Instead I lived dangerously and ordered the turkey dinner. It arrived fairly promptly but to my horror it was simply a bunch of rolled up deli sliced turkey and a mound of mashed potatoes that was STONE COLD. It was of course returned and took an inordinate time to be replaced but it was still largely inedible to the point that they did not refuse when one of our group asked for it to be removed from the bill. Happy they were back until I went there Sunday eve 12/16. No disrespect or exaggeration but establishment seem to be in total disarray. Never received my order, the waitress was angry at the cook. Upon going to restroom overheard conversations from staff mocking a patron. Once I began to leave due to not getting my order, no intent was made from manager to seek resolution to the incompetence of the entire unfortunate experience. This place is okay. The food is not gross, it's just underwhelming. I had a veggie panini, the ingredients are all mouthwatering but the way it was executed was just bland. My friend had chicken and waffles. She said it was too sweet and bland, not enough pepper and salt could save it. We also shared mercy fries. The fries themselves were pretty good, but we did douse them in hot sauce.. The service was great though. Everyone is super friendly and nice. I probably wouldn't come back though. Unless it's my absolute only option. The atmosphere was very nice and the place looks really well decorated. Nice place to meet up with friends if you want to dine here. I'm trying to lead a zero waste lifestyle and this place is okay. They have paper napkins, so bring your cloth napkin if you're into that and they don't seem to use straws with their water! Had lunch at the newly renovated diner today. Service was fast and friendly. Matzo balls in the soup were the toughest I've ever encountered. I literally could not cut them with a spoon and had to use a fork and knife. They tasted OK, but the texture was extremely bouncy and hard. Weird. Broth was fine. Not over-salted. Also had a turkey club on wheat. Turkey was not processed, and it came with a slice of real cheddar cheese. Not enough bacon. No pickle on the side. I judge diners by their turkey clubs, and this was not exceptional but basically adequate. I did like their large curly fries. Joe Jr. is only a block away and is an solid 5 star diner, one of the best in the city, but if it's full Gramercy Kitchen is an acceptable substitute. read more

There was nothing wrong with it, it just felt generic and not very flavorful. The wrap itself was actually quite good, and the salmon was cooked well. The side salad was lackluster. The whole wheat toast was slightly stale. Seems to be expensive for what you're getting; however, breakfast seems to be their forte. Service was average. I've lived in the neighborhood for years and revisited Gramercy Kitchen this morning. Ive been before and to the diner that used to be in its spot. This morning my avocado toast was damn near perfect. I ordered OJ and realized upon my first sip that it was fresh squeezed (the difference is real). I asked our server about it and he confirmed it's fresh squeezed and then asked if I'd prefer Tropicana . Funny, nice and attentive service. My boyfriend and I went for brunch this morning and were extremely disappointed with the service. There were several reasons as to why we were disappointed. I asked our server, Nicole, for a Bellini and was told that NYC does not allow alcohol to be served before noon. I have purchased drinks for brunch at other NYC restaurants before noon and have never had an issue. I looked up this law when I got home and read that it was changed in 2016 to allow for drinks after 10am. She was apologetic so I brushed it off and ordered a juice instead. We ordered our food and didn't wait long for it to arrive, however, our food was lukewarm. I had asked for peanut butter pancakes and received buttermilk pancakes instead. Our server was not attentive to our table so we had to call on another server who brought the issue to our server's attention. I informed her that I had ordered peanut butter pancakes. She stated that she thought I said buttermilk pancakes and that she could bring me a cup of peanut butter. She did not offer to correct the order. I told her that the cup would be fine. By the time she came back to our table with the cup of peanut butter 15 minutes later, I only had 2 bites of food left. She hurriedly placed the peanut butter on the table, said it took some time because she had to go downstairs to get the peanut butter, and then left the table. She did not check up on us at all during our time there but we saw her being far more attentive to other tables around us. We waited for her to come back to our table so we could ask for the check. Twenty minutes passed by and at that point, we were extremely annoyed. We had to wave her over and ask for the check. She did not apologize for the wait or thank us on our way out. We tipped her because we didn't feel right not leaving a tip but she pretty much neglected us our whole time there. As for the food, the buttermilk pancakes were average. Not much you can really say about pancakes. My boyfriend ordered the Maine Lobster Benedict with a side of sausage. Not too appetizing when your food is barely warm. There were very few pieces of lobster in the dish. It was not worth the price at all. We will definitely not be returning. read more

Went there for breakfast last week. I ordered something simple. There was a hair in the food. The waiter graciously replaced it. I understand that things can happen, so I felt it was handled OK. Unfortunately, the replacement came on a plate that was not clean, either from leftover avocado that was on the plate, or the roll was placed on a cutting board that had remnants of avocado. Underwhelming experience here. Ordered the avocado Benedict and the portions were very small. Was expecting a fresh avocado cut up for me, but it came as an avocado sauce instead. Hubs and I decided to come here for dinner one night. We were immediately seated after arriving. Hubs ordered Mussels Fra Diavolo, which was Mussels over linguine in their fresh made Fra Diavolo Sauce. He thought it could use a bit more herbs but he was thought it was surprisingly good for a diner. I liked the linguini alot because the sauce was chunky and not thinned out. I had the Mama's Meatloaf, which was meatloaf with mushroom gravy, potatoes and vegetables. I liked the meatloaf because it was nice and soft. The reason why I deducted a star was because hub's cup was sticky by the rim and it was unidentifiable. He flagged a waiter down and quickly got a new cup. Other than this, the food was pretty good. Service was quick and friendly. In my opinion, the prices were kind of high for a diner. Will probably return and try other items on the menu. read more
