It feels like NY Gand Central in the morning ~ packed to the walls. Folks wake up early and hurry to this GC just to lazily sip their coffee and ever so reluctant to nibble at their pastries as they gloat with their smiles having a seat inside. Parking is a city code nightmare ~ strange triangular shape that can sometimes block in one another vehicles. Best to park off the street. The selection is made in-house daily from scratch with natural goods. Tasty sandwiches are fresh and filling. Staff must enjoy the morning chaos cause the service is friendly and chirpy. Have eaten a lot of cookies from here.

Amazing place to go grab coffee on your way to work or even if you're doing laundry next-door. The staff is very friendly, the place is clean, and the vibes are chill. The prices are reasonable, the coffee is delicious, and the food is pretty amazing. Literally the only complaint that I can think of is how dry and hard their biscuits are. It's like they think dental care is free. They're so hard, I half-expected Thor to show up and use one as Mjölnir. Hahaha all Jokes aside, I definitely recommend this place. Edit: I appreciate the quick response from Hayley. I even got a refund even though it wasn't necessary. I appreciate the attentiveness and care of quality. I will definitely be recommending this place

I really enjoyed how open the space was, and friendly their staff is! I was able to snack on fresh baked goods and sip on an iced chai while doing some remote work. The muffin was my favorite!

    Panettone from Grand Central Bakery
    Don A.

Purchased two expensive panettone (over $20 each) freshly made, from Mississippi location, in Portland, OR. Oh boy, what a disappointment: panettone made with sourdough? Really? Do these people that claim to be expert proficient bakers have ever tried a panettone? Sourdough? Oh my Lord! Sweet delicious bread made with sour dough? Yuck! You eat panettone as a desert, as a treat. Not eating panettone with sausages. At least give those poor people that ate panettone all their lives a warning; that they're wasting their money on a disgusting "sweet bread" that is sour and dry like a cardboard. I'm happy to support a local business but at least do it right guys!

I love their bread, baguette, sandwiches and any breakfast sweets. I got some pastries today for our team meeting, including their famous jammers, seasonal tart and cinnamon buns. Then got myself lunch, lentil soup and scallion and bencher's cheese bread just came out from the oven! Smelled good and tasted good. Coated with crispy cheese outside and moist inside. I also like to use their cookie dough when I have to bake some treats, all you have to do is to cut them out, lay them on the pan and bake them! Like this location, have enough parking (lot and street), can be congested during lunch time, but still you can manage to find a spot. Wish it comes back to my neighborhood again (in NW Portland).

Grand Central Bakery is a good neighborhood default bakery, where you are guaranteed well made bread, pastries, and breakfast sandwiches. Grand Central offers safe and common choices, but you will not find unique items per say. It is not a bakery that I would drool over or designate as a "must try," but have tasty option nonetheless. We tried their biscuit, egg, and sausage breakfast sandwich and croissant egg and bacon breakfast sandwich. Both sandwiches were more filling than we initially thought, I would recommend the biscuit sandwich over the croissant. We also had the house coffee with oat milk and latte with oat milk, both well made drinks! You can order online for pick up or walk up and order. They do have picnic outside in the parking area for dining.

Grand Central is a PHENOMENAL bakery. They have many tasty breads and treats and you can even find many in local grocery stores. We have been to this specific locations many times, including during the pandemic restrictions. We always love their baked items and their sandwiches/lunch menu is usually pretty spot on. I had to give 4 stars instead of the typical 5 because of the problems we experienced on our recent visit. We went here, hoping the cafe would be open for dine-in but expecting that it probably was not, We arrived to find that they are still doing only walk-ups and mobile orders. No problem! We decided to order at the walk-up because I wanted a basic sandwich and this is not available via online ordering. The online system has a big negative as far as I'm concerned. There are a lot of options (additions, removals, substitutions, etc) but you can't change the bread type! The sandwich only comes on that type of bread. For this meal, we ordered a tuna fish on sourdough and a turkey on sourdough with only mayo. When we got the sandwiches, we realized the turkey was on wheat (as is the standard on the menu). My husband went back to the counter and asked for them to remake it. "Hi, we ordered the sandwich on sourdough but we were given wheat," he said. "It only comes on wheat," stated the counter person (not who originally took the order. "Yes, but we asked for sourdough when ordered", the husband explained. "When you order online, it only comes that way, on wheat," she said again. "Let me go check the ticket. Oh, you ordered it here at the counter and on sourdough..." So the husband went back to the car and we waited for my sandwich. Only then did he realize HIS sandwich was also served on wheat (instead of sourdough). At this point, he was getting really frustrated and ddid not want to ask for another remake. An employee brought my sandwich and indeed, it was on sourdough this time, yay! However, something was still lost in the ordering process as the original counterperson somehow heard "onions" in an order that was "turkey with only mayo". We checked the 1st sandwich and there were onions there too. So basically, out of 3 sandwiches, all were wrong. We should have checked the original 2 closely before re-ordering. We just didn't expect there to be so many errors on what should have been simple sandwiches. The sandwiches themselves were pretty tasty. The turkey sandwich, I just took out the onions and called it good. The bread itself was soft and fresh but the turkey was a bit dry and didn't have a ton of flavor. No complaints on the tuna. The cookies are always delicious. We went for chocolate chip and ginger molasses this time and both flavors were great. We also tried a huckleberry jammer, which is their homemade biscuit topped with jam. This thing is so big, I had to stretch my mouth to get a full bite. We loved it! We'll definitely be back, but I recommend checking your order for accuracy.

We decided on outdoor patio seating since the weather was nice & it was generally quieter outside. We were people watching for a bit and noticed that our fellow restaurant goers were waiting for quite a bit, but we weren't in a hurry, so it was fine. When our waiter eventually tended to us, he was incredibly friendly & apologetic, owning up to the delay being on him, but we were cool with it -poor guy was working a double shift. We started off with deep-fried okra, I ordered the fried chicken meal, & hubby ordered the burger. I got to pick the chicken pieces I wanted, so I went with 2 thighs, thinking they'd be smaller pieces, so I could maybe finish my meal. I opted for collard greens as well. The food came relatively quickly and was super-fresh. The fried okra bits were piping hot down to the last bite. They went well with the spicy aioli. We hung onto the aioli so hubby could dip his fries. My meal was so good. The chicken was incredibly tender and flavorful. The batter was just perfect and crisp. Mashed potatoes were smooth and creamy. Gravy was rich and well-seasoned. Collard greens were so tasty. The balance of textures was just perfection. I ended up having to pack up a piece of chicken because it was so much food, but I enjoyed every bite I was able to take of my meal. I appreciated their welcoming vibe & the beautiful pride balloon arch inside the restaurant. I appreciated the friendly service. I appreciated the thoughtfully and expertly made food. This was my first time having catfish. I also am not a fan of grits, but knew that it would be to good to pass up and not give it a try. Everything on the catfish platter was splendid. I adored the biscuit and raspberry jam, might've been the best I have had! The raspberry jam was so good I asked for extra (because seriously, what was I going to do with that little bit provided lol) they end up bringing two more hehe. The biscuit was super soft, buttery and light (also coming from someone that couldn't care less about a biscuit). I also appreciate a biscuit that is NOT flaky! Hold your hate comments lmao! I had this amazing food before going to a wine tasting and let me just say this was the perfect choice before an event as such afterwards. Everything we ordered was gorgeous and whimsical in presentation, but of course that would mean little without the flavors to back it all up, which it had in spades. The Thai steak tartare tostadas were incredibly balanced, with brightness and herbaceous notes from the vegetables, herbs, and sauce, great punch from the Thai spices, richness from the tartare, and a nice snap and slight nuttiness from the tapioca crisps cradling everything underneath. The foie gras dumplings were simply divine. I expected them to be rich and dense, but they were like little pillows, with a savory filling and a perfect balance of smoked leek broth, crispy fried leeks, and a caramelized shallot jam that ended up being the surprise star of the dish for me. Then came the main event, the Duck Stack, which I can only describe as a McGriddle on steroids (in the best possible way!). Somehow it all worked beautifully, with the rich duck gravy, fluffy pancakes drenched in syrup, spiced onions, and a fried duck egg tying everything together in perfect harmony. It was one of those dishes that sounds wild on paper but is totally brilliant on the plate and in your mouth. The garlic fries were spicy in the best way, perfectly crisp, and served steaming hot. The Duck Stack (pancakes covered with duck gravy, onions, and a duck egg) sounded a bit odd to me (and probably many others). When I asked the server if it was good, they told me that people travel to the restaurant specifically for that dish. I'm glad I tried it. Again, very unique with a well balanced spice profile paired with the delicious undertones of a hot pancake. I know I would have never thought of that, doesn't sound like it should work, but....it worked! Service was great, atmosphere was a bit loud with a band playing next door, it was a bit overwhelming, plus a random dude walked into the restaurant and a server lit his joint for him as a courtesy(?)...stunk the place up for a few minutes, but as I thought about it, I decided that was about the most "Portland" thing I had seen all week on my trip :) I'll be going back for sure, I would love to taste through that entire menu. Did I mention the Foie Gras Dumplings? I never had anything like them in my life. That's a dish I would definitely travel back to Portland for.

It comes loaded with a generous portion of grilled mortadella and melted provolone cheese, perfectly moistened with a tangy mustard aioli. The fresh lettuce and bell peppers added a satisfying crunch to every bite. Chefwich - K-Town Steak Sandwich (5/5): A limited-time creation packed into a banh mi roll. It had a generous portion of perfectly tender and sweet bulgogi steak that pairs with their melted jack cheese. The gochujang mayo sauce had a subtle and sweet heat, while the fresh kimchi added crunch and slight acidity to balance the rich meat. Elote Tater Tots (5/5): Definitely a creative side dish. I've only been to the Lardo in PDX (is it still there?), so I felt like I needed to give the brick…read moreand mortar a chance because, let's face it, the one in PDX is meh. We walked down here on a beautiful day after wedding deletes shopping, so spirits were high. Located on a busy corner, but with plenty of outdoor seating, Lardo is a good place to have lunch on a Saturday. I have nothing to say about the parking sitch. My daughter and I shared the Willamette Reuben and her friend ordered the Italian Flag. We shared the Lardo fries. Oh man, the Reuben was perfection! The flavor of the meat and everything on the sandwich, from texture to flavor--chef's kiss! We heard that the Italian Flag was excellent too. Definitely, you can share a sandwich especially if you're having fries. The fries were delicious--crispy and flavorful on the outside, perfectly hot and mushy on the inside. Yum!
