Good. Cheap. Chinese Food. This place isn't much of a looker but it certainly delivers in the food department. I tried it out the other day for lunch and was pleasantly surprised when my bill was under $5. I was even more pleasantly surprised when the food was good. Was it the best Chinese food in town? No. Not even the best in the vicinity. But it also cost half as much as some other places... I had the General Tso's which I found satisfying in that cheap Chinese food kind of way. I like to visit a place at least twice before putting in a Review. My husband works near this restaurant and has raved about it so I thought we would give it a try. We ordered take out both times so I cannot review the service while dining in. The take out service was excellent though. When I placed my order via phone the woman who took my information was friendly and willing to take time to answer my questions. My payment was processed quickly and she was very appreciative of my business. When I went to pick up my order on my second visit, she informed me right away that my order would be a few minutes. When everything was packed up, she added some free donuts and a Chinese calendar. Our first order was Egg Drop Soup, Crab Rangoon, Sesame Beef, General Tso's Chicken, Shrimp Cashew. We got some orders w/steamed rice and some with fried. The Egg Drop Soup was thick, rich, and very flavorful. The Crab Rangoon was some of the best I have ever tasted. Lots of crab flavor. The Sesame Beef came with two broccoli spears. It was a great flavor. The General Tso's also came with two broccoli spears and had a nice bite to it. Not too spicy, not too mild. Perfect for me. The breading was very light and the chicken was moist. The Shrimp Cashew was some of the best I have had. Generous portion of shrimp, vegetables that remained slightly crisp, and a nice honey ginger type sauce. Both rices were perfectly cooked. Our second order consisted of Egg Drop Soup and Crab Ragoon again. (We loved them that much.) Our entrees were Beef Chow Mein, Shrimp with Lobster Sauce, and Orange Chicken. The Beef Chow Mein was really good. Very flavorful. Lots of veggies and beef. The Shrimp with Lobster Sauce was not as thick as some restaurants may serve. It was almost a soup. I poured it over white rice. Delicious. The Orange Chicken generally comes with two broccoli spears. I asked for extra broccoli and they complied. Nice flavor. Perfect bite of spice. Light breading and generous pieces. We really enjoyed this restaurant and will definitely go again. The only downside is I wished some of the dishes had more veggies, but they are willing to add more if you ask. I wish more rice came with the dishes. We ran out of rice before we finished the entrees. The restaurant itself is in a little strip mall and doesn't have much ambiance, but it is clean and servicable. read more

Sooo, this is a Chinese restaurant with a good section of the menu dedicated to Thai dishes. The service was great as you got your own pot of tea and everything came out pretty fast. The server even packed additional rice with my left over! Definitely an "A" for service. Honestly, I almost shot for 2 stars.... couple of picky things. Grand China communally use Jasmine rice (typically reserved for Thai dishes) for Chinese dishes. You can tell because Jasmine rice naturally has a nutty aroma, which can clash with traditional Chinese flavors. Also, they used flower pepper in the pork dish I got, which has great flavor, but you don't leave it in when you serve it.... not fun to eat. The service was a pleasant +1! read more

Just to start it off honestly I have never had a dine in experience with this place. This is completely on their takeout. Everytime I call the person the answers is always kind, courteous and to the point. They always make sure to check what you've ordered is what you actually ordered because there is somewhat of a language barrier not to the point where mistakes are made though. They always tell you between 35 to 45 minutes but my food is usually always ready in about 20 which is always nice. If you're picking it up they have it right by the door ready to go all you have to do is give them your number and pay in your out the door again already. The delivery driver is always very Timely and over-the-top nice, I honestly can't say enough about the driver. Our reluctance to dine in at restaurants during Covid has given my family the chance to experiment with different carryout options, and Grand China is a winner for take-out Chinese. This is Americanized Chinese with big flavors. The sauces have character and don't all taste the same, which is a problem that plagues some Chinese restaurants--the plum sauce on the Mongolian chicken was sweet but savory with plum and hoisin, the Szechuan flavoring on the twice-cooked pork was rich, not just hot, and the brown sauce on the house lo mein had a good depth of flavor. And they bothered to actually use pork that was cooked twice (I think it was thinly sliced char siu pork, because it had the signature red hue), and, my favorite, plenty of crisply cooked cabbage. There is not much too say about this place other then they have lunch under $5 for decent Chinese Food. I ordered the Gai Pad Krang (Chicken)- a Thai dish that was suppose to be spicy. I bit into one Chili that was hot but the overall flavor lacked spice. The dish didn't have a ton of taste and the fried rice seemed a little greasy. The dish came with a decent amount of veggies but it had no wow factor. The lunch portion cost $4 and you can add an egg roll for $1.25. I also ate some crab ragoon which was ok but again not spectacular. They have a decent little dining area which sets it apart from the other local Chinese places. I'm 22 years old and me and my family have been eating grandchina for as long as I can remember!! Yes over that time there have been times where the food wasn't as good as it had been before. But that's just how restaurants work. Sometimes the cook had a bad night. But one thing I will say is that if this place ever went out of business and I couldn't get there Fried rice anymore I'd probably have to kill myself. My life would be over. The have the best fried rice I've ever had! It's like a drug I love it so much! Also with any Chinese restaurant you go to, you should ask for your sauce on the side when carrying out especially if the meat is fried. It won't be crispy by the time you eat it. This place was pretty good considering the portions and price. I came during lunch, so a meal under $5.00 included moo goo gai pan, rice, hot tea and a fortune cookie. I paid $1.00 extra for a bowl of egg drop soup, too. The soup was decent, the rice was OK, but I'm happy to say that the moo goo gai pan was the silver lining of the mediocre food. We took advantage of their family dinner takeout, which is really a good deal: a combo appetizer, wonton soup, and a choice of entree for less than $10. The friendly staff even tossed in 12 donuts for dessert! The food was about what you would expect, your typical assortment of sauces, meats, and vegetables. My experience is limited to take out and delivery only. This is an average and typical good Chinese restaurant. Portions are big and prices are reasonable. The service has always been friendly and efficient : from the phone call, to the staff at the location and their delivery man. The food has been hit and miss but fortunately leaning a bit towards the good rather than the negative. Our last order was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Egg rolls were quite good, fried rice was a bit on the bland side and little greasy. The General Tso chicken was a bit doughy and quite sweet. I order things randomly sometimes, and I expected this to be a normal Chinese-food dish. It ended up being a soupy concoction of mushrooms and onions; it was still tasty, just not what I expected. I judge a Chinese restaurant based on certain qualities. Here's where Grand China Stands. Is the restaurant clean?: Yes. Are the dishes nice and warm?: Yes. Is the rice sticky?: Yes. Does the fried rice have enough veggies?: No. Are the chicken pieces chewy?: No. Is the food bland?: No. Are the Rangoon dumplings adequately stuffed?: No. Are the fortune cookies crispy with a hint of vanilla?: Yes. Are the fortunes lame?: No. That's a 77% pass! I recommend any of the crispy chicken dishes or the veggie plates. The seafood is decent, but the scallops are rubbery, and, while the smaller shrimp are absolutely fine, the jumbo shrimp have a strange texture. read more

We ordered delivery for a future time as I was working late and wouldn't be home until 8:15p. The gentleman who took our call assured us it would be no problem however the delivery guy arrived 20 minutes early, when no one was available to accept the order. They let the food sit in his car for the 20 minutes until our actual arrival time, so my review is based on food that was lukewarm and sitting in its own steam. The spring rolls were greasy and so chewy, I could barely even bite through them. The chicken was also chewy and under-seasoned; it was supposed to be spicy but was sweet and very bland. We have been going to Grand China for at least a decade. The current owners have maintained the same high quality that we came to love. For larger parties, they will bring you free donuts for dessert. Always ask for the hot tea instead of buying a cola. Our recommendation, try the General Tso Chicken or the Spicy Green Beans. Over charged my food from lunch manu. When I was placing order i was bring nickel/dime. I paid more and less food. What's the dam point of having lunch all day when getting only meat plus vegetable and half cup or less of rice nothing else. no soup, no egg roll, no drink. WTF!!!! According to there lunch manu- Shirmp with vegetable is 5.75. w/ free rice but I added veg. 50 cent more. I got egg drop soup -1.50 Total: $7.75 I given cashier $10 and she given me .25 back. This is our go to quick meal restaurant. Good Quality food, Fast service whether we do pickup or have it delivered. We have not dined in the restaurant yet. I have tried quite a few of the dishes and have not been disappointed yet. My favorites are the Garlic Chicken and the Happy Family. I have also found that if I ask for it prepared a special way (either mild or extra sauce), they always prepare it the way i asked for it. read more

I wish they'd give you more rice, the portion is a little small but for an extra 50 cents, you get the right amount. My family and I have been going to Grand China since I can remember. Their prices are extremely fair and I haven't found a Chinese restaurant that compares. The staff are extremely friendly and the service is quick. If you are dining in, the atmosphere is calming and provides for a great place to catch up with friends.Their menu is also quite extensive and you get your moneys worth of food. I have never had an incident where I had to wait to dine in or even make a reservation. I come from a large family and every time we have a bigger order, Grand China provides us with Chinese donuts, free of charge. I always recommend Grand China to all of my friends and people who are just stopping through Columbus. read more

Theyre cheap, have lots of options, bold flavors, but a bit greasy. Their pot stickers are great (although the dough was a bit soggy), their general tso has a kick and is juicy with a thick sauce, their veggies are crisp and fresh, the pad thai (which i normally hate) is quite good w/ fresh shrimp and spicy (the shrimp are larger then ive seen in chinese cooking and not over cooked), their house special lo mein was above average and had tons of juicy meat & shrimp, not to mention that we got a free app sampler and free chinese donuts without asking. The sampler had 2 ribs, 2 egg rolls (greasy), 2 crab ragoons (greasy), 2 chicken teriaki (little dry but good), 2 chicken wings (juicy but fatty), and i think that was it. Overall it was good. A few family members like this place, so I eat here occasionally (when they choose it as our dining destination). I've dined here on and off for years - since they opened. Something has recently changed in the food. I started suffering bad chest pressure that would radiate into my back and have nasty headaches after eating here. I never experienced this before and no other restaurant or food causes this "reaction" in me. I looked online to see what might be the cause and it's likely MSG. Grand China says they don't use MSG, it's even printed on the menu, but I think that recently they have added MSG back into their food. I'd like to ask them about it, but since the menu says no MSG, I doubt I will get a truthful answer. I'm going to have to avoid this place for now on because I feel terrible after eating there. On the plus side, if MSG doesn't bother you, their food is cheap and pretty consistent. read more

It was mildly spicy but not extraordinarily so, even though I requested extra, extra spicy. My main gripe, though, was that the sauce was far too sweet. This is another unassuming-looking restaurant in a stripmall location. Inside, it is bright and clean but a little bit dull decor-wise. Similarly, the menu isn't going to win any awards for uniqueness nor creativity, offering the usual General Tso's/sweet and sour/Mongolian/garlic/cashew etc etc chicken/beef/pork/shrimp combinations. There are a few Thai dishes too. The food is decent, however, and $5 gets you a more than adequate lunch of soup (the egg drop isn't bad at all; the hot and sour is pretty meh), spring roll (crispy, flavorful, not at all greasy), steamed rice (fluffy) and entree. The restaurant has never been very busy when we've eaten there but the phone is usually ringing off the hook, with a steady stream of people picking up take-out. Service is excellent.
