Christmas Buffet? No thank you! We had reservations for Christmas Brunch at the Grand Dining Room. It wasn't what we had anticipated. First of all, seating was slow. We had reservations for a small party of three. They were not prepared to seat us at the reservation time. About fifteen minutes later, I asked how much longer we should expect. They told me they would check and get back to me. They never did. Only after I re-approached the hostess' desk, did they look into it and FINALLY find us a table. Despite a reservation for the "Grand Dining Room," many people were seated in small, nondescript rooms on the periphery of the Grand Dining Room... kind of like how children are banished to side rooms/tables for meals at family gatherings. Not exactly the atmosphere people are expecting... or paying for. The food was also a disappointment. When we made the reservation and paid the more than $100/person (even for pre-schoolers) we anticipated a nice, multi-course meal, not a largely self-serve buffet with mediocre cuisine. It reminded me of a Golden Coral. Actually... at least Golden Coral has sneeze guards! I never understood why "upscale" places like this allow people to serve themselves. People using their hands to serve themselves while also eating with their hands in line and at their table... it's pretty gross. Why not hire a few additional staff members to SERVE guests to make sure things are at least sanitary. Bottom line, I wouldn't dine here. The cost was excessive, especially considering the realities of the service and experience they're providing. read more

Thanksgiving Dinner at the Grand Dining Room is the way to go, if you want homestyle food that still feels elevated and is delicious. A very wide variety of options and they replenished often. Service was great, for such a busy day. We had the last seating time and you can tell the servers had been on it all day, But they still didn't miss a beat. Was disappointed that they ran out of the bottles of Caymus. Felt like that could've easily been prevented, but that's just me being picky. read more

For decades, this was one of the finest dining experiences in the South for an elegant dinner, with delicacies not found elsewhere and an actual piano player taking requests. NOT ANY MORE. The new owners shut it down for dinners permanently and opened a mediocre, over-priced breakfast buffet instead. Mediocre service. The atmosphere is now like a Golden Corral with a crystal chandelier. Don't waste your time or money. Chalk it up to some self-described genius armed with daddy's cash and an MBA deciding that fine dining cost margins are too high, so ruining one of the main attractions of the entire Jekyll Island Club property and replacing it with some dumb, loud 80 Ocean dinner concept like everything else but in an expensive new building was the answer. The new owners have ruined the Jekyll Island Club and have turned it into a basic af "resort" that will either be stripped and sold to another holding company or file for bankruptcy before 2030. The staff are untrained, uncaring, underpaid amateurs with no experience, obviously hired only because they would work for CHEAP. Typical corporate looting going on here and it is only a matter of time before it closes. Your money is better spent at a Denny's. read more

Atmosphere - Excellent. Located in the Jekyll Island Club hotel, the restaurant is absolutely beautiful in an old world way. The restaurant is considerably small than I expected. There are around 2 dozen four tops. If not for the atmosphere and our server, I would have assigned a 2 star review rating (at best) Service - Very Good. I say this with the caveat that the restaurant was under staffed. Most likely due to Covid. Our server was very extremely busy, yet she was attentive and pleasant. Food - Extremely Disappointing. It was unbelievable how long it took the kitchen to prepare our food! We waited nearly 40 minutes from the time we ordered until it was presented. Even then, the ham slice I ordered was not ready. So, perhaps your all thinking that the restaurant was very crowded or that I ordered something that takes time to prepare. Double negative. The restaurant was barely half full and virtually everyone was doing the breakfast buffet! I ordered scrambled eggs, with a side of ham and the order came with breakfast potatoes and toast!! To add to the disappointment, when the ham slice was finally delivered it was cut so thin that it was over cooked and touch. On top of this, it was extremely salty. This place is beautiful and having the Cmas trees and decorations only enhances the beauty. We showed up at 9:45 am and was told 20 minute wait, which turned out to be true. They are suffering as all the other restaurants.....lack of staff. I am way more patient than I used to be because I appreciate that someone is working and willing to cook me a meal. We were served coffee and then left for a while. Once our order was taken, we waited 45 minutes during which time we got one more cup of coffee. We didn't understand because they had a breakfast buffet, which the majority of people were ordering. Our food arrived, barely lukewarm. I had ordered eggs Benedict and it looked great. One egg was runny as it should be but the other was hard boiled. The English muffin was barely toasted. The best part was the breakfast potatoes. We had a resort credit and decided to use some of it here for breakfast the first morning we were there. There was a 30 minute wait at about 10am so we gladly roamed the grounds in the near area and sat on the rocking chairs in the back and gazed at the magnificent view of the property. We were seated right around the amount of time we were quoted. We were seated in the glass front room that had lots of natural light. I was glad we were here and not in the back main dining room. Our server was great and the menu had your basic breakfast items on it. I got the eggs benedict and it was good, but nothing special. The experience felt fancy though given the atmosphere and fine china you use. read more

I feel I have to correct my good rating from the Thanksgiving "experience." We went on New Year's for brunch, and I assume it was pretty much what they're now serving for Sunday brunch. What a disappointment. For $65 plus tax and tip, you should get the finest quality food, and this just wasn't it. They still make omelets to order, and that was fine. I tried the "fish of the day" and the fried chicken, both mediocre. Potatoes were ho hum. Biscuit was acceptable, not great. Coffee isn't really hot, so it's room temperature almost immediately. The dessert selection was a huge downgrade from Thanksgiving. Not only very little selection, but the quality was not at all what they served 7 years ago, or even on this Thanksgiving. We thought we'd do this as a treat once a month or so, but we won't be back. There are plenty of restaurants around where you can get a fine breakfast for $20 or $30. There's no need to spend $65 for food that's just acceptable. read more

Had a decent dinner at the Grand Dining Room. It was good, but not great, and not worth the high $$ amount that it is. I ordered the Steak Au Poivre that comes with a Peppercorn Brandy Sauce. I asked that the steak be cooked medium and one side was super burnt. The vegetables on the side were underwhelming and the potatoes needed salt. My husband got the rib eye that had a potato puree on the side that I stole a bite of, and the potatoes were awful. Do you like brunch? If yes, you will love brunch at the Grand Dining Room. So many choices, not enough tummy space for it all lol. First, this spot is amazingly beautiful! The restaurant is inside the hotel at the Jekyll Island Club Resort. There are old homes and much history on the land surrounding the hotel. You will also find many huge old trees with Spanish moss hanging. You can take a trolley tour to learn the history. Or take a casual stroll to the river and relax on one of the many benches along the bank. Inside the dining room is incredible. This is a white table cloth venue. The host that seated us placed our napkins on our laps. They even brought us each a finger bowl with lemons to keep our hands clean. But be prepared, brunch is $39.99. Which includes unlimited mimosas. Oh and there was an amazing piano player. The food was incredible! So many choices. The Bulgarian beef was out of this world. It was so tender and flavorful. I also liked the cheddar mashed potatoes. There were crab legs, caviar, smoked mussels and scallops. The seafood was my least favorite because it was cold and I prefer my seafood served hot. But it was still good. I had a one egg omlet made to order. Very tasty with fresh ingredients. There was a biscuit/ croissant stuffed with seafood in a cream sauce. Omg, the best treat ever! I've never tasted anything like it. There was also a carving station with prime rib. Again, tender and juicy! And the horseradish sauce was also incredible. I can't forget the desserts. I tried several and honestly I can't choose a favorite. But I loved both the key lime pie and chocolate mousse pie! The name of this restaurant says it all: The Grand Dining Room. The ambiance of this large, Victorian era, Grand dining room, within the Historic Jekyll Island Club, simply can't be beat. I'm certain many wonderful memories, celebrations, and dining experiences have been had here since its opening in about 1887. We dined in the Grand Dining Room several times during our stay, and we were not disappointed. On one evening, we decided to try their Prix Fixe. This four course menu allows you to choose between several items for each course, $45.00. Additionally, the wine pairing for each course is $69.00. Prior to leaving we also enjoyed their Sunday brunch. It is a smorgasbord of food - something for everyone. I especially enjoyed the seafood table: boiled shrimp, salmon, Alaskan King crab, smoked oysters, and blue crab claws. They also have a carving station, omelette station, fruit, salad station with cheese and meat charcuterie, roast pork, poached fish with accompanying hot vegetables, desserts, variety of breads and muffins, and on and on! I do recommend making reservations for weekend dining, and the Sunday brunch. On this Memorial Day weekend, 2018, this restaurant was a very busy, popular spot! read more

Jekyll Island Club Resort is a beautiful resort. The grounds are very well maintained and the staff is very friendly. Fantastic Sunday Brunch. The Sunday brunch is 11:00am until 2:00PM. The brunch is $39.95 per person and I includes tea, coffee and juice. After 12:30PM you can receive a complementary glass Of champagne. I will return for sure. Fellow yelp friend posted pictures and a yelp review on the restaurant. After I saw the photos of the Sunday brunch I knew I had to try it. As soon as we walked into the restaurant we were greeted by Carla who gave us a warm welcome. She was super nice and very attentive to the guests. Our server was Morgan and she did a fantastic job! She was very polite and was an extremely hard worker. You can tell the staff is well trained and extremely courteous. The food is absolutely delicious! If you love seafood then you will love the fresh shrimp and already cracked King Crab legs. I have to say the chef who made the seared salmon with a lobster butter chive did an excellent job. The salmon just melted in your mouth. The sauce was absolutely out of this world. Hands down it was my favorite dish of the day. When I go back again I hope they will be serving this entree again on the buffet. There is so many options to select from on the buffet and there is something for everyone. For desserts the bread pudding was a huge hit. It was moist and yummy. I just wish they would have had a vanilla or bourbon sauce to go with it which would have put thins dessert over the top. In my book, the Grand Dining Room of the Jekyll Island Club Resort is the best restaurant on the island. That, in part, is because there aren't any really over the top fine restaurants on Jekyll Island. Which, though this one is good, makes it the best by default. One of the big pluses of the place is that it is indeed grand. It's a throwback to the old world of wealth and elegance. Every detail of it is exudes class. However, though most eat in the main part of the dining area, I prefer the Peggy Hughes room which is an alcove like smaller area, round in shape with a fireplace and fan structured wood ceiling adjacent to the main dining area. I've dined here several times. The service I received has always been top notch and the food, though not particularly exceptional or innovative, very good and tops in quality ingredients. During my most recent lunch I started off with their "Southern Fried Green Tomatoes" accompanied by a rooster (I believe termed from rooster peppers) remoulade, goat cheese and a tomato salsa. The batter fried tomatoes themselves were very good, prepared the typical way found throughout Georgia and the Carolinas, and with the remoulade, it made for a very good dish. For the main part of my lunch I had their "Shrimp & Grits" which were prepared rather like you'd find in New Orleans coupled with an andouille sausage, lots of scallion and garlic; totally delicious. I really found the food of the Grand very good, but for me the best part was the majestic atmosphere of the place. For that part of it, priceless, and the Grand just can't be beat. read more

Staff was neither friendly nor attentive. At times our server disappeared and we constantly had to ask for drink refills as no one came to refill our drinks. Its a very stunning place actually to come for dinner. The ambiance alone may be worth it. Situated in the old Jekyll Island Club Hotel (which is also said to be haunted), this place has mystery and charm to it like no other restaurant I've ever been to. EXCELLENT WINE SELECTION. Now, maybe it's a matter of taste, but they had some of my favorite wines on the menu. WHERE DOES IT FALL SHORT? The food. Had the seafood mixed grill and food was very over salted. When I say very, I mean it. Aside from that, uneventful selection that did not impress. If you're looking for a morning or mid-day meal, it turns out that your options can be a little limited, especially at some of the hotels at the northern end of Jekyll Island. After doing some research though, we found the Grand Dining Room as a late breakfast option, piled in the car and headed towards that end of the island. Located in the Jekyll Island Cub Hotel in the Historic District, you're immediately bombarded with beautiful old buildings and well kept flora when you arrive on the grounds. The Grand Dining Room is located just off the lobby, and is itself a sight to behold -plentiful ionic columns are strewn throughout the large room, with other accoutrements of the oldest of schools (at least in North America) of class. Being that it was breakfast time, their dress code was not in force (bring your sports jacket at dinner, gentlemen!). We weren't fancily dressed, but we were certainly at a more respectable level than the guy in his trunks and muscle shirt, giving us an air of superiority that seemed fitting to have in a place like that. Our hostess got us seated and poured us some of the stanky Jekyll Island water and coffee for those who chose to get caffeinated. Luckily the orange juice I ordered tasted to be of the Tropicana variety and not mixed with the local "water". We thought the breakfast buffet was going to end in 15 minutes at 10am, as per what their website said, so we stuck with the menu items, which looked very enticing. The Huevos Jekyll called to me, with a short rib hash, two eggs and toast, but items like the croissant breakfast sandwich and others also sounded great. I ordered my eggs sunnyside up for maximum runny yolk potential and rye bread for a different twist on my toast and since this was my first time in the south, I opted for a cup of their stone milled grits as well. It wasn't too long before we got our food, which of course came out on trays with warming covers, which were placed on a nearby cart before having the covers removed and having our food served to us. Our table was soon covered in the plates of our mains, sides toast and condiments. I also appreciated the tiny individual-sized bottles of jam (no packets of Kraft here!) and the pads of butter shaped like roses. My looked great, with a fresh salsa on top of the bright eggs, and tasted just as good. The beef was moist and flavourful, and the salsa had a nice citrusy zing to it that helped cut through the richness of the rest of the dish. The eggs were cooked perfectly, with the yolks making for a great sauce for the hash below. The rye bread was an interesting first for me, as I've never had it on its own, just in the likes of Reubens or other deli meat sandwiches that have a lot of other big flavours going on. It had a unique bite to it that was certainly more than that of any sourdough I've had before, and was nice when dipped into my hot mess of hash. Despite how good my hash was, the cup of simple stone milled grits might have been the star of the show. They were a vibrant yellow, and quite smooth as well with just a little bit of texture from the bits of....grits that didn't get ground down as much as the rest. They were very, very rich and buttery and although I'd hate to think of how much butter went into them, they were still worth it. Service was very friendly and professional, just as you would expect in a place like the Grand Dining Room. "Grand" is in its name for heaven's sake, the standard is set high right out of the gate. Although it looked like the buffet stayed open until 11am and not the advertised 10am, we were all more than happy with what we had to eat, and it was fitting we had our best meal on Jekyll Island at this Grand location. read more

i have read so many mixed reviews on here and it is really a head scratcher. We went for dinner tonight, (Sunday night) and it was pretty much everything i was hoping for. The entire Jekyll Island history and the FED is such a draw to me so coming here was somewhat of a bucket list, or at least a checklist. The dining room experience does harken back and that is fantastic. We were seated by a proper hostess greeting, our waitress was impeccable. I ordered the arugula and frisee salad that had goat cheese and blueberries and it was perfect. Hubs had a lovely Caesar salad that had lemony sardines that i devoured. I did the dance and ordered the shrimp and grits - good but not NOLA good. Hubs ordered the "featured" dinner which was swordfish over risotto and he loved it. We ordered a bottle of cab that was not overly marked up and i can truly say that this was a memorable dinner. So glad we came - took a sneak peak in some of the rooms and caught up on some of the historical photos - this stuff makes me so happy. I am coming back for an historical tour as soon as i can. If you are on Jekyll island, there are not many options for eating but why are you coming here? If you are reading the creature from Jekyll Island - get in here and soak up this amazing history. This is a beautiful old hotel and we heard the Grand Dining Room was a very special place to dine. So I decided to give my wife a special treat for her birthday and take her to lunch. We arrived around 1:00 and were seated right away in the Sunroom off to the side. It was a delightful, bright sunny room. We started out with an order of Fried Green Tomatoes to share. They were fried just right and delicious. The Shrimp and grits are award famous so I had to order. There were 10 Medium, cooked just right shrimp. The dish was a little light on the grits and the sausage but, it was very good. My wife ordered the Garden Salad Trio. Tuna, egg and chicken on lettuce salad beds on top of Fried Green Tomatoes. Very tasty. We enjoyed a glass of wine with our meal and the service was very good. We enjoyed the ambiance and look forward to retuning soon. read more

The slowest service ever. It took them over 30 min just to take our orders. It took them another hour to bring out the food. It even took them 30 min just to bring a refill of coke. Did you go all the way to the coke factory in Atlanta to get the cup of coke? I'm sorry.. Yes it was a vacation day but we have places to go. I don't want to sound like I'm bitter but the restaurant was half empty.... I just didn't understand why it took so long. We originally went in thinking we'll order coffee and dessert after our meal, but that was going to take at least an hour more so we just left. This is a great dining option when staying at the property. They serve breakfast until 11:00 am during the week and it is actually very reasonably priced for what you get. Also, I love that you are seated in a little sun room off the main dining room. We had dinner here as well and it was very good. They have a well-priced, pre-fixe menu for $49 and you can add wine pairings for a total of $69. Really great deal. If you choose to order wines separately, they are also very reasonable. Having had an abysmal dining experience over at Latitude 31, we were skeptical of any of the recommended dining choices on Jekyll Island, but we decided to give the Grand Dining Room a try, mostly because we wanted to experience this historic Club for ourselves. We were completely wowed by the experience! Grand dining at the Club is like being transported to another place and time. There is a strict dress code, but the formality does not extend to the staff attitude: every person who works here is companionable without being overbearing. Our waiter treated us like old friends, and steered us toward the perfect meals. You can't go wrong with any of the Grand's offerings. Sunday Brunch for four. Food was acceptable, except when they ran out of oysters and other items, and nothing was replaced. This was at 12:15, so not late. When we were seated we were never asked if we would like a drink, we did manage to get coffee by asking, but I had to go snag some cream from an unoccupied table. No OJ, Bloody Mary etc was ever offered. No one ever told us what was included in the meal. When the bill came, we did finally get to see the cost which I could not find on the internet anywhere, nor did we ever receive any menu. The bill was given to me and the waitress waited for my credit card, so I didn't look at it at first. When she brought it back to me to sign, I had to shuffle four other sheets out of the way to see the itemized bill, which was $65 per person, PLUS a 20% service fee. For a table of 4. I did not choose to leave a tip as I felt 20% was way more than enough for mediocre service at a buffet brunch. And nowhere was I alerted to the fact they tack on a 20% service fee. I had been there a few years ago and had a lovely brunch, but I would never return after this, and I have done my best to alert everyone. read more

Arrived at 6pm for a reservation- off peak season so it appears it was not necessary but best to be safe. Got a table right next to the gas lit fireplace. Elegant dining room, tastefully done- not gaudy like the crystal room at Tavern On the Green. Chairs were pushed in behind you as you sat. Formal, though we were dressed casually. There were several tables where gents were wearing blazers. We were greeted by our server Gary who was very pleasant and professional. My wife had the braised rib. I ordered the Prix Fixe- Brie, Apple crostini paired with champagne, French onion soup, Caesar salad paired with a Vouvray, salmon prepared with a puréed curry cauliflower paired with a Pinot Gris. Lastly molten lava cake and coffee. Each dish was amazing- no disappointment or recommendation... except perhaps the salmon could have been slightly less cooked- but to say that is perhaps even getting perhaps too picky as it was darn near perfect. Everyone at the table had the onion soup and raved about it. The crostini was great- could have eaten several of them!! The Caesar salad was great! The anchovy was not overpowering but a great adjunct to the classic salad. The dressing was amongst the best I've had (my mom's being the best...). Finally the lava cake- wow... interesting version of this classic- I did not ask but I tasted a strong vanilla flavor- as in vanilla bean flavor in the cake- t'was very yummy and the two cups of coffee help me work through the decadence... as did my wife! :). My wife had the braised rib and stated it was good and had good flavor. My in-laws had the chicken- the flavor was described as light on the outside and bland in the inside. Yes, this place is spendy... but the atmosphere and dining in this historic building was something to experience. In addition to the ambiance there was a GREAT piano player that played classic tunes whilst we dined! Bathrooms (men's) was clean, neat and presented appropriately for an establishment of this caliber. There were a few small details that were overlooked by some staff- not details that would prevent me from returning, but I would not give 5 stars to a place that was not hitting solid on all cylinders. Salt shakers missing from a few tables (including ours), servers name tag was upside down when arrived at table. Servers unfamiliarity with menu updates. On a plus note, the kitchen was very accommodating to our gluten free folks. Regrettably the server was not aware of the preparation for the braised rib and about 10-15 minutes after ordering the server apologized, explained the preparation and my in-laws had to change their order. The bread comes with homemade butter. We ordered the Braised Smoked Bacon for an appetizer and it was cooked/smoked perfectly. It was about three inches thick too. For my main course I ordered the Rabbit Confit with Sweet Potato Gnocchi. Wow was it good. Our waiter, Jed, was attentive and made the dining experience very enjoyable. Out wine glasses were never empty. I highly recommend to anyone vacationing at Jekyll Island. We'll be going back for dessert tonight! read more

In the morning we had the breakfast buffet which was good but I wouldn't say superb. The ambience was great. The view fantastic and the historic building and grounds are amazing. We returned for dinner but I wasn't allowed in for dinner since I wasn't wearing "a collared shirt". I was wearing a dressy Nike high collar Navy blue light jacket. Shortly afterwards I was surprised to see them let a guy in wearing SHORTS and of course "a collared shirt"...I'm not one to make a scene so I let it go but here's my review to let management know what I think of their dress code policy... If you're a gentleman and plan on dining here don't forget your collared shirt :) read more

A very elegant ambiance and the food matches the ambiance. We started with the crab bisque and it was very good. I then ordered the Lobster Carbonara and it was near prefect---lots of lobster meat and great seasoning. My wife had the bouillabaisse and loved it. Jekyll Island is one of the most idyllic resorts in the Coastal Georgia area. It's a very quiet place for nature lovers - a great place to get the family away from the hustle and bustle of their everyday lives. The main attraction is the historic district where the wealthiest once game to play. The Jekyll Island Club Hotel is the center of this golden era and the Grand Dining Room is a wonderful and lasting remnant that allows diners to feel what it must have been like to be a Carnegie or Vanderbilt. The luscious dining room has been kept in pristine condition. My parents and I have been to the Grand Dining Room for their Sunday Brunches several times now. We always request seating in the sun room. The gracious waitress starts you off with a glass of Yellowtail Sparkeling Wine. First off, the wine really surprised me. It was so refreshing and light - of course Yellowtail is known to be a reliable winemaker so I shouldn't have been so surprised. The brunch buffet has an excellent assortment of items including a tasty pastry bar, a hot bar that includes scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage links/patties, and grilled veggies, fresh fruit, and omelettes made to order. On the other size of the buffet there is a an excellent warm and cold seafood bar, carving station, and soup and salad bar. There's also a selection of wonderful cheeses and cured meats and of course a dessert bar with amazing pies, tarts, and cookies. The service is impeccable and the food is absolutely delicious. The price is $28.95 - including juices, coffee and tea. For special brunches including Easter, Christmas, and Mother's Day expect a higher price as they bring out special items. read more

We had hoped to sample the famous Sunday brunch but because of the pandemic it not served. Instead, we opted for breakfast. The dining room decor is stunning, with gorgeous woodwork. I wish the food had met the standards of the room's design. My husband and I both ordered Eggs Benedict, which came with a fruit garnish and potatoes. The eggs were cooked nicely, but the English muffins were soggy and each egg was served with only a small dollop of bland Hollandaise sauce. The eggs were barely warm when they were served (I guess we shouldn't have been surprised as it was so cold in there that the host was wearing a heavy jacket). By the time we finished the first one the second was very cold. The chef made us fresh eggs, which was nice. Unfortunately, they were also barely warm by the time they reached our table. read more

Four of us for lunch last week. Although the service was excellent (a 4 or 4.5 or so), the food was disappointing. The cobb salad was small and uninspired. The shrimp po' boy was served on nasty white bread and was small. It was also uninteresting and without a lot of taste. However, the onion rings were fine. All-in-all -- If one wants a nice atmosphere and good service but does NOT care about food quality or creativity -- this is your place. If one LIKES paying a pricey sum for very little this is REALLY your place! As for us? We see no reason to go back -- and won't. read more

The food was fair, the service was deplorable. It is amazing to me that this restaurant is rumored to be the "fanciest" on the island by everyone, yet it took 2 hours for most patrons to obtain a salad. Our table asked 4 different employees over an hour period for more of the delicious cranberry bread (since we were all starving due to the wait). The 4th employee finally brought us bread, it wasn't the cranberry because by that time they were out of it. Whomever manages this restaurant should be ashamed of themselves. I was glad to see the people next to us be comped, I felt horrible for the table of 15 that probably never did eat, and I seriously questioned all the employees walking around trying to make it look like they were working while all the customers were famished.
