Coming here for a Sunday lunch yielded unpleasant results. The service was horrible, but the food was not too bad. Had it been fresh, I would be more satisfied. During my meal, which was over charged, I attempted to open the blinds of the window. The server immediately closed them. After asking about it, she indicated that she doesn't want people to see in. I came here on a Thursday and tried everything and it was gross. It tasted like it was over a week old. The food isn't made it tastes frozen. So disgusting and was $45.00 for 2kids and 2 adults who couldn't even eat the food because it tasted so bad. I'm not going to return. I have also lived in Minnesota and Florida, and this is one of my favorites. It might not be "accustomized" to American taste, but if you want to try authentic Chinese food (maybe more southern China style), this is the place. The price is insane at $6.99 for lunch. They even do discount for students. Many varieties of Chinese food are available, even including the rarely seen steamed fish and pork hock. The sushi is pretty good as well. Strongly recommended is a type of dessert that tastes like a cheese cake, but less sweet and more creamy, which you can find right beside the sushi bar. The fruit collection includes kiwi and watermelon when I went. If you are just coming for American food, there's pizza, hamburger, ice-cream, mac'n'cheese. I didn't try any of those, so I am not going to comment on the taste. The decoration is pretty good when compared with other Chinese restaurants around and other restaurants of the same price range, and the recipe is not the typical ones you can buy from the American Chinese restaurants. The waitress was welcoming and I feel the dishes were taken away in a timely manner. I don't understand why some one would come to a Chinese buffet to criticize the pizzas.... Personally, I haven't liked any pizzas of any type yet, and I have tried a lot of the so-called gourmet pizzas. What I am trying to say is that every one can have their own preferences, but you don't have to be an ignorant racist to try to justify your point. Nathan S must be thinking eating hamburger and steak makes him look more civilized than a Chinese eating dogs and cats. If you have watched Fast Food Nation or the Food Inc., you know what I am talking about. As for health concerns, it depends on how you eat Chinese food. For example, when eating noodle soup, you are usually not supposed to drink the soup (which contains majority of the salt). When eating pepper steak dish, Chinese usually don't eat the source, but just the meat and vegetable dipped with the source. The Americanized Chinese food is oily and salty because most people here seem to like that better. Overall, I think this is a place with pretty good Chinese food at low price. Despite competition from several other Chinese buffets in the area, this one is still by far my favorite. I've been eating here pretty regularly for the last five years or so since I moved to Rochester (and no, that doesn't mean that I'm the size of a house!) Occasionally one or two options may not be at their best, but I've certainly never had any stomach problems. The service has always been great - always friendly, efficient and polite. $7 for a lunch buffet (Mon-Sat, at least) is a bargain, especially when there's such a huge selection of food to choose from. Yes, it's slightly more expensive evenings and Sundays and I expect there's better quality food elsewhere if you're prepared to pay for it, but within this price range you can't find better. It's a Chinese buffet so of course the Chinese food is going to be the best part. The salad and sushi could be better, but not for this price. I notice that some complaints are from people who only ate the American-style food. I eat that too on occasion and I still found it to be perfectly palatable (especially the apple pie), but of course you're going to get the best experience from a buffet if you enjoy a wider selection of food! I still get excited about being able to enjoy more types of chicken in one meal than I can fit on one plate. Thankfully you can have as many plates as you like. read more

Went on a Friday around 6:30 p.m. for a fast meal. The food was low quality, cold, and unappetizing during a peak dining time. Avoid this place. They cheap out on everything. The food quality is poor, and they just let items sit on the buffet without replacing them. For example, several items I sampled were dried out or room temperature. They advertise crab legs, but there's never crab legs on the buffet. Also, overpriced for the quality. Save your money and go somewhere else. I tried several Chinese buffets in the Jefferson Road area and this one has the largest selection and better food and service. My water cup got filled without me asking (not at the other place). Servers were attentive and even made polite conversation when I did. They didn't hold back on refilling the crab legs which they serve on certain days. $11.99 on days with crab legs. $9.99 on other days. Seems worth it. read more

Good buffet not fantastic but most of the dishes were decent. The coconut shrimp was far too heavily battered and lacked flavor. The sesame chicken was dried out and soggy. The garlic shrimp and grilled zucchini were there really incredible dishes. But there sushi was also well made and plentiful in selection. Do NOT go there for the crab leg gimmick. They bring out 4 snow crab clusters every 20 minutes. People will stand and wait as they know they won't see any after 2 people take their minimal fair share. I told the manager after unsuccessfully speaking English to kitchen servers. he said "go wait they cook" ...ya right that's what I want to do when I go to dinner with friends and family visiting from out of town. As for the meat, (notice I didn't say chicken or beef?) is all prepared as cheap as possible. You might find a tiny piece of brown meat inside layers and layers of flour/batter covered in some type of sugary or soy sauce. Bathrooms NOT clean and no sign of any sanitizing or cleaning. I wish the health dept. would do surprise walk ins in places like this. They must believe we don't know what quality food is because dumb people keep going there. I've visited many buffets found throughout the Rochester area however Grand Buffet has been my go to place since the first time i visited, What first got me about this place was the variety of foods and plates as well as fresh steak and cajun chicken they have. One of my main reasons to visit this place more than others is the fact that they cook with an special oil not sure if its peanut oil/coconut oil or soybean oil but the point is that it doesn't make you feel "bloated" even after eating 3-plates (which i did), i was feeling fine and didn't even feel the need to use the bathroom until the next day which for me is a plus since most other restaurants use cheap cooking oils which upset your stomach and make me feel bloated. I experimented several times eating at ie; China, Ho Ho buffet's but i always left with an bloated stomach after eating 1 plate and shortly after a few hours i was hungry again. The only reason i didn't give them 5-stars was because the Ice Cream machine was broken -.- second time its happened and the ice creams they offer you have to scoop yourself and for me that isn't very sanitary having hundreds of people dipping there hands in tubs of ice cream and scooping up servings... I think they would save more money if they would just upgrade there machine already. read more

So the sweet and sour chicken, cold, not remotely warm, the eggrolls were soggy and didn't taste well and my friend had the crab rangoon, and he wanted to throw up. With disgust, I told the owner that I wasn't happy with the food and he tried to justify why the food was the way it is and he offerd to charge us 10 dollars for the both of us and I paid and I told him that I shouldn't be paying for anything because I left that place the same when I entered. Hungry. The owner can't take criticism but hey! If you love cold chicken or bad eggrolls or crab rangoons that make you wanna up chuck, this is the place for you. Dreadful. This is by far One of the WORST buffets I've ever been to. If I could give zero stars I would. The people here who say they had a good experience are Chinese.. because with all other races, they are extremely rude and stuck up. HORRIBLE customer service. Servers don't like to serve and do their jobs the right way. Aside from the food tasting awful, the service is even worse.. the server who was serving our table started yelling at me when I told her the tea was cold and if it would be ok to heat it up.. she started to yell and say "you can go get it yourself". When asked for a straw for our drink she aggressively put it on the table and walked away even though we thanked her for it kindly, she didn't even look back and continued to walk away from our table. The whole time she was asking all the tables around us (Chinese people) if they were ok, but avoided us completely from the very beginning. Awful customer service. Facility - clean and in good repair. Service - Good for a buffet. Friendly. Prompt removal of plates and refill of drinks. Food - A bit above par for a buffet. Arrived at 8:00 PM, so a good hour past prime time. No congealed food on display, a plus. Replenishment came from the kitchen in small batches which helped to keep the food fresh and presentable. Overall food was flavorful and cooked about the right length of time. Next time I'd avoid the squid (tough, overcooked) and spareribs (ditto). Shrimp, Pork, Beef, and Chicken dishes were all good. I'm watching weight so didn't try the deep-fried dishes, pudding, macaroni, or deserts and can't comment on those. Definitely got more than what I paid for, and will visit again. read more

I've always wanted to join yelp and I'm so sorry that my first review was inspired because of another reviewer's blatantly racist remarks but I'll get to that at the end of my review. I no longer live in Rochester but I still come back to visit family every so once in a while. And sometimes, my family and I enjoy the occasional guilty pleasure of a Chinese buffet. I have to preface this with the fact that, yes, it is pretty well-known that buffets (any buffet, especially those under $20) are not going to serve amazing food, but people are paying for variety and quantity, obviously not for quality. Out of all of the Chinese buffets that we've frequented in Rochester, I'd have to say this one was probably the best in terms of price, variety and taste. At Friday lunch, the highlights were the "spicy" Thai soup with sweet tomatoes and beef, dim sum choices (longevity peach buns!) and endless amounts of shrimp. The service was nondescript, neither bad nor good and the atmosphere was fine. Yes, there are a lot of heavier people who go to buffets, but unless you're a bigot, there really is no issue. Now, on to the comments made by "Nathan S." As a person of Chinese descent, I cannot describe how offended and disgusted I am at his outrageous and narrow-minded remarks about Chinese restaurants. He says, "that's why those occasional rumors of: 'that Chinese place uses cat meat' or 'notice there are no more stray dogs in that part of town,' really can scare us and we don't know what to believe." When I first read that, I actually had to stop reading to calm myself down. Chinese restaurants (not any less the Chinese people) have been fighting these types of intolerant stereotypes for centuries! For someone who willingly admits that he doesn't know much about Chinese food, it really surprises me that he would open his mouth to criticize it...not because it didn't taste good but because he's basing his opinion on prejudice. The French have been known to eat horse (some private places still serve it there) so are we to assume that every French restaurant must have equally questionable meat because the meat "has been transformed so much that we have no clue what we are eating"??! Furthermore, "Nathan S." criticizes the food at this buffet because he loves pizza and the pizza at this Chinese buffet looked unpalatable. How...inane. Does that mean that when I go to an American buffet and eat sushi, I can criticize all of the food in said restaurant based on something it doesn't specialize in? I'll keep that in mind the next time I want to base all of my opinions on misplaced logic. read more

Me and my wife love all you can eat sushi buffet. Our favorite place was Japanese Hibachi in Southtown plaza. It was def best in Rochester. Sadly it was closed with no explanation why . We were on the hunt for a replacement. We tried the Grand Super buffet. To keep it quick there was no white rice . Food was over cooked and cold . I mean it was all cold except the soup , that was fairly tasty. Keep in mind it was 2 pm on a Wednesday. The waitress never came back once to fill my water but did for the tip . I asked one of the workers who was mixing warm food w cold food what one of the entrees had on it . She looked at me and walked away . I laugh about it because I actually thought they put chocolate pudding next to the mashed potatoes. Turns out it was the gravy . I like to think that they were having a bad day there , but I'm not taking any chances . There are too many restaurants out there that have low quality/ poor ingredient foods that are overpriced. Wow, spent Easter morning here to check out their buffet and could not believe how amazing it was! They jacked up the price by $4.00 person but it was totally worth it! The place is clean and big with no crowds, no waiting in line and no feeling like a sardine in a can! The food was beyond amazing, I don't even know HOW they do it for 14.00 per person! Dismal experience. Went through three plates to find one without dried food stuck to it. Went through five plates looking for one that wasn't so severely chipped I feared cutting my fingers (top as well as bottom). I gave up and used a chipped one. Fork was badly mangled so much so that I could not use it. Plastic drinking glass was also badly chipped around entire lip. With less than ten individuals in restaurant could not get waitress to help with glass and fork issue. Manager completely unresponsive. This review does not include food for obvious reason. read more
