    Catfish Yellow Rice String Beans
    Rissi R.

This soul food restaurant opened 3 months ago. I did a phone order and picked it up at LUNCHTIME. I ordered the fried catfish with string beans and yellow rice. I wish they sold sandwiches because the "dinner" only menu is a bit much if you have to return back to work. All meat dishes come with 2 sides. I also ordered a "flop" which is sweet iced tea and lemonade. When I walked in I was greeted and told I was right on time because it had just came out the kitchen. I was happy about that. The establishment has about 4 or 5 tables inside that you can eat at. They weren't crowded, as only 1 couple were occupying a table. Ok as for the good it was ehhhh, OK. Yea just ok. The catfish meal is $15.95, pricey, and you get a fish cut up into 4 pieces and tasted like cornmeal only, no seasoning. The yellow rice was EXTREMELY SALTY. As we know yellow rice has its own seasonings in it so there no reason to add additional salt. I couldn't eat it. The string/green beans are out of the can and has smoked turkey added w/ a lemon garlic seasoning. They were actually good but hate that they were out of the can. I want to go back and try different sides and meat but I'm skeptical. They're PRICEY and just OK.

If my grandmother actually cooked, I would like to think it would be as good as this. This was our first time here and will come back soon. They were short-staffed, but the food was worth the wait. We highly recommend the wings. The honey barbecue sauce was amazing.

This place started off strong but lately I've been having too many issues with my orders. Instructions are useless because they never follow them. Today I received very bloody ribs. Lost my appetite. I hope they really start taking their time with these orders because they may lose loyal customers.

Craving soul food? Take your behind over to Grandma's Kitchen. The husband and I went on Sunday afternoon and were not disappointed at all. The lobby had a nice amount of people inside with people also seated. The gentleman in the front (who also happened to be the owner) was so sweet and let us know right away that the wait for food would be about an hour, which we happily waited. We got there around 3ish and at that point they'd run out of a few items which was a bummer. Anyways, I ordered the pork chop sandwich with Carolina sauce. The thought of it brings hearts to my eyes. Hubs ordered the fried ribs with honey bbq sauce. His exact words were "them thangs goooooooooood!" . As sides we had the Mac and cheese (it was okay), the collard greens (a little salty but still bomb!), candied yams (more heart eyes), baked beans (even more heart eyes)! We will 1000000% be back!

Grandmas Kitchen is my new favorite soul food spot! Close to Coral Springs ! Nothing remotely like this west of I -95. Customer service was classic southern hospitality. Fresh food and menu has its pros and cons. When they out of the good stuff. They are out. I had the catfish , macaroni and cheese and collard greens. Without a doubt the best soul food I have had! Seemed like someone's grandma was literally in the kitchen. I'll be back!

Grandma's, the new soul food takeout in Coconut Creek. 4570 Lyons Road, the same plaza as Fish Joint. The food is delicious and super legit, but despite the menu, they only have what they have -- today, they had fried ribs, fried pork chops, wings, and catfish. The collards and green beans are the real deal with smoked turkey. Mac and cheese are tasty, but the clumpy kind and the cornbread is on the sweet side. They bake chocolate chip cookies, 2 for $1. This Sunday they are doing smoked chicken and a shredded turkey over white rice with gravy and a cornbread dressing, as well as baked ham.

Catfish, Mac n cheese, and cornbread. I smashed the collard greens.

I went here because of the hype. Let me address something real fast there was a stench when you walk in this establishment. So I briefly waited for my food outside. When I finally got my food I ordered a catfish dinner with collard greens, Mac n cheese, and corn bread. For one it's over priced and secondly the Mac n cheese was separating not my thing. I've been around some soul food cooking folks and I've never tasted anything like this. So I'll pass on.

    Chicken strips and yams

Second time ordering from them and long story short I'm good from now on. Because what is this. The strips are tasty but terrible at the same time. The yams are out the can. I know the brand. However, the fried ribs are tasty.

Visited here with my husband and ordered take out. Staff was helpful and polite and I always love great service. They didn't have everything available on the menu but they did have a good selection available. So let's jump into the food! The portions are really good for the price. We received plenty of food! My husband had fish, candy yams and greens. His fish was great! It was Swai rather than the catfish as posted on the website, but it was very good. The candy yams were also really good, while the greens were just ok. I had the lemon pepper chicken wings, Mac and cheese and string beans. The string beans were seasoned very well, while the other two items were just ok. Looking forward to trying a few more things to see what their specialty, home run dish may be.

I just ordered wings for me and someone else and they are trash to the 10th power.....they look good but they are mad rubbery literally trash n on top of that we ordered all flats n we got legs anyway ...lol call customer service trash...n get mad because his wings are trash...you should definitely past this place up don't waste your money please just go to the wing stop right next door ...just spend the extra money n eat there and get better quality wings or food period at the wing stop right next door ....seriously do not go here I'm warning you ...DO NOT EAT HERE

Picture doesn't do it justice .I wanted greens but didn't feel like cooking.Plate took me back to childhood Sundays. Xoxo!

Service comes with a smile and they actually ask you to look at your order before you leave to make sure everything is to your liking. Ambience is clean welcoming with the option to dine in. Food- Finally some country soul food.I had smothered chicken, candy yams, string beans,Collard greens, cornbread, potatoes salad. It tool me back to the meals grandma used to cook after church on Sunday. The only thing I would suggest is a pinch less salt, just a pinch. Otherwise everything was seasoned to perfection. Made me wanna take my shoes off and enjoy! I wish Jarvis so much success. His smile and kindness of his staff and the GREAT FOOD will keep you coming back. So many people came in asking for the catfish while I was waiting. Remember the proteins are cooked to order so come and be patient or call your order in. If you want to feel like you got a plate from your Grandma house or a Deep South comfort plate ,this is the place!

I ONLY REVIEW NACHOS…read more My sister went to Buffalo Wild Wings and said the nachos were terrible. Since she has a similar palate to mine I was worried. But Florida Nacho Man needs to stay ever vigilant. I came to confirm or refute. She was right. I confirmed it. That's journalism. The plate arrived looking genuinely promising -- chips spread flat, chili distributed, fresh jalapeños, dual cheese situation with Hatch queso and cheddar-jack. Guac and salsa served on the side in separate ramekins, which is actually a smart call. First impression: better than expected. Then physics intervened. The metal tray conducts heat away from the food faster than you can eat it. By the halfway point everything was cold. This dish should come with a warning. Winter is coming. The chips fused together into nacho tiles from the cheese. Pulling one chip meant pulling five, all welded together, shedding cheese to whichever chip stayed behind. Every bite was a negotiation. The Hatch queso and cheddar-jack sounded promising. The flavor was bland and forgettable. The jalapeños were large, fresh cut, and had absolutely zero heat. The crema joins the Hall of Shame -- listed on the menu, invisible on the plate. On the way out I told the manager to ditch the metal tray. He agreed. We'll see. 5/10 on the Florida Nacho Man scale. 3/5 stars on Yelp.

A restaurant that serves seafood and wings?…read more I'll admit it... I walked in a little skeptical. It felt like one of those menus that couldn't decide what it wanted to be when it grew up. So I did what any reasonable person would do. I ordered both. Before I even get to the food, I have to give a shout-out to the two young men working behind the counter. They were incredibly friendly, genuinely helpful, and steered me toward a combination that turned out to be a great choice. Good service doesn't always happen at casual restaurants, but these guys made a terrific first impression. Now, about that fryer... Whoever was running it knew exactly what they were doing. The batter on the fish was light, crispy, and delicate without burying the fish underneath. The fish itself was cooked perfectly. The wings were also very good, the fries were crisp, and the whole meal delivered exactly what comfort food is supposed to deliver. The shrimp? It felt a little like the forgotten middle child. Perfectly fine, but overshadowed by everything else on the plate. My only real criticism is that the food may have been a touch heavy on the salt. Then again, I'd rather reach for my drink than wonder if the kitchen forgot to season the food altogether. Hook's Catch isn't trying to be fine dining, and that's exactly why it works. It's the kind of place you go when you're craving something hot, crispy, and satisfying. And I have to admit, there's something oddly satisfying about a restaurant that refuses to make you choose between land and sea. Go with the fish. Go with the wings. Or do what I did and have them both.

Including breading and shrimp tails, the total seafood weight of my meal was 5.1 ounces! Guess that's more than the precooked weight if a quarter pounder, but it sure didn't seem like much. Both fish and shrimp were fine, and with the included slice of bread and large portion of tasty fries there was plenty to eat, albeit mostly fries and bread! I'll probably give them another try, but I'm not running back!

Their lunch menu is very minimal. Firegrills idea of a top sirloin steak is two skirt steaks stacked on top of each other and I'd say about 20% - 30% of the steaks themselves were just inedible fat. They do have an option of just the skirt steak and I'm pretty curious to know if their Skirt Steaks are just one of these? Drink machine was down so it was lemonade or canned beverages, not too big of a deal, lemonade was nice and refreshing, the environment and decor inside was pleasant. Shots of tequila are on the higher dollar sign in my opinion, coming in at just under $15 a shot. Total expense for lunch was just over $70 not including tip. Likely will not be returning to try their dinner options unfortunately. I feel that the owner has a misunderstanding of top sirloin steak and I just can't shake that thought. I understand that skirt steak is more affordable but I do not believe you can just stack two thin steaks on top of one another and call it your 8oz Top Sirloin Steak. The menu will not tell you the size of the steaks, I asked what the weight of the top sirloin was and I was told it's 8oz. They have a whole system of names listed for those who are waiting to see how long and phone orders who are picking up. The wait was not that bad for how busy they are. I took my order home and as I ate a wing it was spicy and was puzzled . When I looked closer it was not Hawaiian sweet. I called the store and they said it was the spicy hot honey oh no. I do not eat anything like that. The employee said to come back and they will make a new one . It was already 930 pm and I was watching a movie wanting to eat wings and relax I was not going to go back and get another order. She stated I can come later they are open until midnight but this was not happening I have been working all day and not leaving. I asked for a manager who said the same thing to come back which I was not wanting to do. As we discussed customer service I said I would just need to come back on a future date with my receipt . Apparently , the employee heard me wrong and put it on my order but the Manager , Melle agreed he would just put my name in the system and I can return with my receipt another time. Hopefully,it will turn out okay when I return wanting wings again . I believe other customers probably took advantage and this is why they kept telling me to come back the same night.
