I had the tom yum risotto the flavours were good but it was really weird to me how they used jasmine rice. It literally reminded me of a white bowl of rice mixed with sauce... I wasn't sure how I felt about it. The shrimp wasn't well prepared - very rubbery and not deveined. I also got the chicken pad thai.It's not the authentic pad thai you would expect - more ketchup side but I didn't mind it. The portions were outrageously small for $20 though. We've been meaning to check this place out and tonight was the night with the boys at grandma & grandpas! The menu is quite extensive but after asking for some advice and fan favourites, I ended up with the Tom yum seafood "risotto" and the hubs got the Green curry baked cheese with chicken cutlet. First off, the baked curry was okay... not a lot of green curry sauce. The chicken was fine. Not really a dish that wow'd us too much. The Tom Yum Seafood risotto was very tasty and flavourful. I was told it was a fan favourite so I was very intrigued. Sadly, upon arrival, it could have used a better presentation - they put it on a big flat plate so it looked...kinda gross. Secondly, they didn't use Arborio rice. I get that that would've taken a lot longer to make but using regular rice was a disappointment. But after a taste, I was definitely wow'd by the flavour. I have been told the fried rice here is fried very well, but I haven't personally tried it. My friend had the seafood risotto which was basically rice in curry sauce. The pad thai is more ketchup-based and very sweet, which is not bad, but definitely not "authentic" tasting. That being said, it is a fusion restaurant so that's to be expected. I enjoyed the banana and condensed milk roti as the roti was very flaky. I would probably try one of their savoury rotis in the future. The table next to us had durian puffs which smelled very strongly of durian so I might give those a go next time too. The decor is cute but simple (the tables have nice artwork on them and they put little flags in your food with their logo). The restaurant itself is small (typical Yonge St sizing) so it got full during lunch hour but no one seemed to have to wait long for a table. Overall the food was decent and priced accordingly. I ordered the Thai Green Curry with Rice and I also tried the Laksa seafood soup. The green curry was delicious! I loved it and finished the whole thing! We ordered: - Lemongrass Grilled Fish - this dish included sweet and sour sauce and two fishes (a good amount for 3 people) - Chicken Fried Rice - solid fried rice with good texture - Thai Coconut Chicken Hot Pot - this came in a cute mini pot and is a good alternative to their other hot pot dish as the coconut makes it slightly less spicy. - Mango Sticky Rice - unlike traditional mango sticky rice, this came with coconut ice cream and sago! 10/10! So if you liked Yeah Yeah Thai on Spadina, you will like Grandpa Thai that is located near Yonge and Finch. I've been waiting for this store to open a long time ago. Finally today is their first day grand opening day. Service was excellent. I love the modern decor inside. Everyone enjoyed the mango salad. I really enjoyed the fried tofu. The Tom yum seafood hot pot was good, my mom kept drinking the Tom yum soup. They keep it under the heat for you. Perfect for pictures too. Our group of 4 was actually in the neighborhood to visit another restaurant nearby, but the wait at that place was too long and moving slowly so when we saw Grandpa Thai was opening soon, we decided to change our plan. We ended up being the first group to enter when they opened. There was another group that came in near the end of our meal and some who came in and out for takeout on this beautiful Sunday afternoon. Upon being seated (they said we could sit wherever we want), we were immediately brought iced cold water and told that we could scan the QR code to place our order - super easy. The decor of this place is really cute! It has a unique aesthetic that's very vibrant and customized to Grandpa Thai. They even put little branded toothpick flags on many of their dishes for presentation. Even their chopsticks are light blue to match their theme. To keep the energy up, they have pop music playing but at a volume at which you can still converse at your table and be heard. We ended up ordering their Laksa-Style Seafood Noodle Soup With Rice Noodles. This was a good level of spicy for us, with a very flavorful broth. The rice noodles were a little on the harder side, but not bad. I think maybe instant noodles would have been better, as they would have soaked up the broth more too. There was a good amount of seafood to pair. I personally preferred the Thai Red Curry With Rice, which was thick, with fragrant herbs, and a good kick! The chicken was very tender and the skin was so crispy - so good. Lastly, we also got the Caramel Cookie French Toast which was really enjoyable, full of Biscoff flavor and not too sweet. When you cut down the middle, milk literally oozes out which was really neat and offered up a different experience from just eating the edges. The topping was also interesting because they had spots made similar to the top of a pineapple bun (bolo bao). I will caution you that most of their menu is spicy! Service was friendly and the server was really attentive, automatically bringing us bowls, plates, and utensils to share our dishes, without needing us to ask. Overall, the place was clean. The chairs were metal patio-style chairs which weren't the most comfortable though, which is my main "complaint". Because of the smooth texture, you slide back on the chair, but if you sit back, you're too far from the table and/or leaning back oddly. read more

Really cute place south of Yonge and Finch. We were drawn by the bright and colourful decor. Food was served fairly quick and we both enjoyed the dishes that we had. Both were medium spicy which I really liked. I am rating them 5 stars as overall it was a great experience and I have a few things that I would like to mention as I felt these were things they could easily improve on. I had the curry pad thai which was delicious. It was a little too salty so I used up the limes I was given and asked for a few more until it suited my taste. My husband got their new shrimp glass noodle dish and I saw they they did not take the shrimp intestine out. My husband didnt mind it though but some folks might. Walked around north york to find somepleace to eat and this place caught our eye. The place is well decorated and had plenty of good options to choose from. We got their pad krapao moo and tom yum noodle soup. Kra Pao was perfectly juicy and the lettuce added a nice, refreshing crunch. A Thai fusion HK cafe near Yonge and Finch (south of Finch on Yonge). This is not a big place, about a dozen or so tables so it will fill up quickly. We stopped by for a late lunch and was able to get a table right away. The menu has a lot of traditional Thai dishes (pad Thai, red and green curries) but with a HK diner influence ie baked chicken on rice (or spaghetti) but instead of tomato sauce you have the choice of red or green curry. Chopsticks and napkins are on the table and sharing plates, bowls etc are brought after you order. I love the metal! We really enjoyed our meal. The red curry baked chicken had a nice layer of cheese on top. The pad Thai was excellent, nice big pieces of chicken and noodles were a good consistency, not clumpy or soggy. The sauce contains peanuts though so if you have an allergy they won't be able to substitute. You will just have to order something else. The Thai ice tea is considered a favourite but I would also recommend the cafe pho. Service was good. We did have a nut allergy at the table and I was impressed at the follow-up to let me know that the kitchen was making sure nothing else had ground peanuts in it. Water comes in a jug with a slice of lemon and was replaced without us asking when they saw us nearing empty. All in all a great experience. Definitely worth a second visit! read more

What a neat concept to serve fusion Thai-Hong Kong food. That's a first for me! I came by for lunch and ordered the Thai Style Crispy Pork Belly Fried Rice and the Chicken Pad Thai. Overall, the food was quite tasty! They've got good "wok hei" and both dishes were deliciously infused with all of the characteristics you would expect from authentic Thai food - spicy, sweet, sour, and salty (a bit too spicy for me, actually)! I especially loved that the aroma and flavour of their basil really came through in the fried rice, so that was my preferred dish of the two. I felt that the portions were fair but a tad pricey for such carb-heavy dishes with not a lot of protein. Each dish was $18, which sadly seems to be the going rate for Thai food in this area these days. I came on a weekday so I was seated comfortably but I imagine that there may be a long queue on the weekends since the restaurant is a bit small and only has about 7-8 tables. This HK and Thai fusion restaurant is so good! I don't think they take reservations but we came here on a Sunday afternoon and were able to get a table for seven people right away. This is similar to "yeah yeah Thai" restaurant downtown as they had some of the same menu items. After we sat down we got complimentary shrimp chips which were so crispy. Pad Krapow was not too shabby, meat was very flavourful and nothing to complain about. I did not enjoy the assorted cutlet as much because the pork chop was slightly dry and the meats weren't nothing to write home about. Still good tho. Arranged a dinner last minute after seeing they had balloons around grand opening time and had a small group show up. We ordered various items off the menu, which featured items that you would probably find on a hong kong cafe menu, and then there were some items that I guess are more thai inspired like curry rice, roti, and mango salad. This is a HK Thai fusion restaurant located close to yonge and finch. This is a combination of two if my favourite Asian cuisines, so I know I needed to give this a try. 3.5/5 - I got the baked cheese chicken cutlet with green Thai sauce on rice. I was quite excited to try this combination but felt it just slightly missed the mark. The cutlet chicken was delicious and good balance of the cheese, but the green thai sauce I felt was a missed as it didn't have that spicy flavour I was looking for. Additionally they left some herbs that weren't ateable, which made it harder to enjoy each bite. 4/5 atmosphere- I really like the decor they have and gives a really good vibe when you're there. Certainly catered to be more instagramable friendly. 5/5 seevice - No complaints on the service as our waitress was really friendly and made sure we were satisfied. They had a promo of free Thai milk tea if you post on Instagram and we had no issues to redeeming it. She even gave me the drink before posting. Overall I would recommend giving this place a try. A new spot I just discovered! It's a Thai HK cafe and the flavours are out of this world! Fair warning, their dishes do have a bit of a kick to it (which is necessary for Thai food). We tried their baked Thai Red Curry Spaghetti w/ Pork Chops and it was sooo good. We also tried the pork with lettuce wrap and it had a really nice smokey charcoal taste to it. Highly recommended. Don't come here with expectations of authentic Thai. It is super fusioned. Food is mediocre but service was good. My favorite dish I would recommend during this trip was the Thai pork bone soup. The least favorite was the dessert. I had ordered the mango sticky rice with coconut ice cream. Coconut ice cream was very flavorful but the sticky rice was very disappointing. Unfortunately, it tasted very mushy and not sticky - very hard to describe with words. However, if you had this authentic dessert before, you would be able to understand the texture. This place used to be Mabu station I believe. We came by during slow times around 4pm on the weekend. Seating capacity is probably around 40-50. Service is friendly and available when needed. Here was what we ordered: Deep fried crab-shrimp-taro spring roll-$11 (6pcs) w/sweet chilli sauce - Don't really notice the crab, but its definitely crispy. Felt more batter compared to filling ratio. Baked Thai Red Curry w/ Chicken- $19 - You pick rice or noodles and your protein. Its baked with cheese. This was decent. Portion was average. Pad Thai w/ Chicken- $18 - Tasted a bit more on the sweet side. I'm guessing there is ketchup utilized here. The taste is decent and it comes with bean sprout, egg, green onion, noodles, tofu puff and sauce and crush peanut as garnish. - You really notice the scrambled eggs in there which is good. Thai Ice Red Tea w/ Coffee- $6 - This one was surprisingly tasty, but know it does have that sweet flavouring of thai ice tea. You can taste coffee in there for sure. This is probably the thing that stood out for us here. In these areas, there's just so much restaurant choices, so for restaurants like these competing again others would have to bring something to the table to entice a good crowd to keep them busy, otherwise, the next restaurant will take over unfortunately. read more

Got the Tom yum risotto, it was one of the best risotto i had and that's coming from a former Italian Chef taste buds! Got curry pancakes and Thai lemon fish. The curry has an intense coconut flavor and is well seasoned. If you are not looking for something very spicy, the flavour is not bad, except however, the curry is a bit greasy and there is basically a layer of red oil on top. The pancakes are too thin and flaky, which would have been good if this was a croissant pairing a coffee. But the pancakes actually accompany the curry and therefore needs to soften the strength of the curry while holding as much of it as possible after dipped. The lemon sauce on the fish also has a good flavor. The fish was deep fried after coated with an excellent batter, crispy and not greasy this time. However the choice of fish is terrible because it has too many bones and the bones don't separate well from the fish meat. read more
