The first time I ate here it was delicious. The second time, not so much. There was about a 6 month gap between both times I have eaten here, and the second time, everything I ate tasted like it was frozen/microwaved, or came out of a can. The breakfast is about the same price as Troys diner and i feel as if the food at troys is much more worth your money. There were only 2 servers working on a Sunday morning and they seemed overwhelmed :/ Nonetheless our service was great but I just felt bad for the waitress. And all of the people on here saying it "tastes like home cooking", I promise have never an actual home cooked breakfast. The gravy is powdered. Was very excited about eating at a family owned breakfast restaurant, but was quickly disappointed. We waited 30 minutes and our food was still not out. I flagged over the lady I believe to be the manager asked her politely if she could check on our food. She turned around annoyed at our question and never apologized for anything. I really did want to like this place, had high hopes but it just didn't happen for us. I like to try local, family owned places and was excited about their late breakfast menu (served until 3 on weekends) but the food just was not that great. We were told it's usually better. I will give them that they were busy, maybe that is why some of our food was burnt, some was soggy and some had missing ingredients (no sausage in the sausage gravy). We came here because of the breakfast sign, and this restaurant did not disappoint! I ordered the blueberry pancakes and eggs. Those pancakes were probably the best pancakes I've ever had. It wasn't too sweet and was super flavorful. Plus the eggs were cooked perfectly. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs with the loaded hash browns. His steak was so fresh and also cooked perfectly. I ended up eating some of the loaded hash browns because they were just so tasty! This place was terrible. We don't care much for chain restaurants, but today we might have been better off. Our server came to the table..."whadda ya having?" No hey, how are you etc. we weren't ready yet, that did not make her happy. My husband joked that I better get my act together or else she was going to take me out back and beat me up! Food was absolutely delicious, although I've never had such a rude waitress. She brought us our food and literally threw the check on the table. When she would refill our coffees and say thank you she would just walk away saying nothing. It seemed as if she was irritated with our presence although we were being nothing but respectful to her. This is a great choice for a country breakfast. The hash browns were perfectly golden brown and crispy, and the grits, biscuits, eggs, blueberry pancakes, and corned beef hash were delicious. No, I didn't eat all that myself; there were three of us. Wait staff are pleasant and attentive. My coffee was topped off at least eight times. Service was friendly and proficient. A great little restaurant nestled at the bottom of Grandfather Mtn. The food is made to order and doesn't come quick but it's worth the wait. All the waitresses were sweet older southern ladies and it gave me the feeling of having a meal at a friend of my grandmothers. I had the country fried steak which was pretty good but the best thing out of all that we had were the biscuits. Light and fluffy and with the gravy they were a little bit of happiness. The prices were reasonable figuring you are in a tourist town. The place gets very busy so it's a good idea to come early especially on a Sunday before the church crowd heads in. read more

We needed a quick place for breakfast on our way to Blowing Rock over the 4th of July weekend. We found this place and the wait wasn't too bad. They had a note up on the door telling you to go inside and write your name down (as they were anticipating large crowds). After about 10 minutes, we were seated. Under the table wasn't cleaned properly, but I know they were busy. Service was quick, waitress was a younger girl.. she wasn't very friendly, but she did her job well. It was pretty good diner food. I think the best way to describe Grandview is...over rated. Our party of 4 visited on a Sunday morning and after walking inside, for several minutes it was sort of a figure it out for yourself situation. Even though we stood at the cash register area with the lady standing there as well, and multiple servers walking by and around us for several minutes, it wasn't until the Cashier appeared to believe she needed to take mercy on us, and told us to sign the notepad laying on the counter, that we knew how the process worked to get a table. We asked about her favorite dishes and mostly got a, "I'm from up north, so I don't know if my opinion counts." We were seated in about 15-20 minutes and overall, although attentive, the service was more akin to an obligation rather than something the staff wanted to do or enjoyed doing. The food came hot and as ordered...except the scrambled eggs which were ordered wet and arrived dry. The white gravy was from a mix and the biscuits were not homemade but rather appeared to be the frozen variety. Grandview is billed as country, home cooking. It was overall mediocre and although I've had worse, there's really nothing that makes you want to go back...maybe most of all because of the confusion over the name: what grand view? A parking lot on one side with a highway view, a drainage ditch and buildings on the back side. If in the back you look far left or far right, you see an unimpressive view of a hillside one way and part of a mountain the other...again living up to over rated. read more

Our standard Sunday breakfast when we are in Boone. Simple menu with simple, great food. Marie and Gena are the best waitresses in the world. Crowded on Sunday mornings but the tables clear quickly so its worth the wait. Lunch is good, too....burgers, patty melts, etc. read more

Meh. The food was fine and kind of exactly what I expected. It was nothing showy or exciting. I wasn't thrilled but was also not upset about it. What was upsetting is the overall crappy attitude of the staff. I couldn't even get so much as a smile out of the wait staff. As someone who works for tips myself, it is always confusing to me when I sit down to eat somewhere and I am treated as an inconvenience. I must have said "thank you" to our server about a dozen times (after being seated, after receiving a drink, after she took our order, after any refills, and after delivering our food, and after getting the check) and didn't get one "you're welcome" aside from the drawn out sarcastic one delivered with an eye roll as she was walking away I can only assume was in response to her being annoyed by my good manners. I don't need a service to be a kiss-ass, but common decency and good manners are part of being a good human. I know this is a local spot and I don't look like I'm from around here, but I am a person and would enjoy being treated as such at a minimum while dining out. read more
