We came to Roosevelt island to explore a different part of NYC and dropped by Granny Annie's for a quick meal before we continued our adventure. The meal itself wasn't bad, and the service was friendly but slow. They seemed unprepared for the lunch rush and the food came out pretty slowly. What originally started as a quick meal in a seemingly lightly crowded restaurant became an hour and a half wait. The food was fine, but I can't say that it was worth the wait. All that said, the shrimp on the salad was pretty good. The place seems like a great place for locals to catch a game. Swing by if you have some time and are on the island. read more

We were in Roosevelt island yesterday. Checking out places for brunch. Not many options n came across Grwnny Annie's bar n kitchen n thought we'd try it. Walked in n no one was there to greet us. Went up to bar n waited told us to sit wherever we wanted. So we sat outside. Saw the red bus drive by n people walking around . Was a hot day but cooler sitting outside. This is such a cute restaurant that's conveniently located right by the tram and subway at Roosevelt Island. The decor is cozy with whimsical items that reminds you of a fictional granny's house. I've been here twice, once for drinks and brunch. The service was friendly both times, this seems to be a regular spot for people who live on the island. For brunch, I ordered the farmer's omelet special with home fries. The omelet was delicious and the home fries were cooked perfectly. My friend ordered the fish and chips and he really enjoyed it. If you are looking for a great spot for cocktails and delicious food this place is at the top of the list! I road over on the Roosevelt Island Tramway to get there and it was totally worth it. It's close to the tramway station and subway station. The host greeted us and was very welcoming. There's tons of seating and our waitress was great. I got the Espresso Martini and my friend got the Strawberry Pimm's Cup and both cocktails were amazing. I ordered the classic bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich and it was so filling. The fries it came with hit the spot. My friend got the Irish breakfast and it had a little bit of everything. The vibe was fun and the music set the mood for a perfect brunch. We had the Granny Annie's Irish Ale battered fish & chips along with the Mexican omelet and home fries. The hot chocolate was decent. However, the coffee was not good. It tasted like the pot was just recycled with weak watered-down coffee without any flavor. I'm not sure what happened there, but I just ordered a second hot chocolate instead. My first visit to Roosevelt Island as a "tourist". After visiting the park at the southern tip, we went to Main Street for some food. We came upon Granny's and dinner outdoors. It was a breezy day but not too cold. Service was quick. For two people, we got the signature burger and buffalo chicken wings. The burger was decent, medium well with tomatoes, red onion, BBQ sauce, and cheese. When we ordered the buffalo wings, they asked if we wanted medium or hot. We got the hot version but it was mild at best. It's an overall decent place for a midday meal. I'd like to try the shepherd pie next time. read more

The first time I just stopped by for a drink at the bar and enjoyed a margarita with my family. The margarita was decent. The second time I came with my family which was a party of 15 people. They were able to seat us all in their outside dining area. I ordered a espresso martini which was very watered down which I drank anyway. To eat I ordered Buffalo wings which were quite delicious, the sauce was the perfect amount of spicy and the chicken wings were well cooked. I also ordered mozzarella sticks which were delicious and I liked their marina sauce. I ordered a frozen strawberry margarita and sadly it was also watered down. This time I had to complain and they gave me a strawberry margarita on the rocks, it was much better. The service was ok, the server could have been a bit friendlier. read more

My family and I stopped here on our way back to NYC after taking the tram onto Roosevelt Island earlier in the day. The restaurant is large with plenty of inside and outside seating. We were seated promptly by the hostess, but waited an exceptionally long time for our server to come to the table. There were not many people in the restaurant, so we were not sure why there was such a long delay. Our server was friendly enough, but we didn't see her much. Again, we are not sure why there was a time delay. There may have been a large party sitting somewhere else. We ordered potato skins, fish and chips, and a burger. The burger was good and the potato skins were average. I ordered the fish and chips and the fish was over-battered. It was just very thick and doughy. The fries were the worst part of the meal. Both my fries (with the fish) and my husband's fries (with the burger) were undercooked and soggy. They tasted like frozen fries that were baked in an oven, but taken out too early because you're so hungry you need to eat that second, but then you regret it because they are not cooked through. I was just visiting, so the chances are unlikely that I would ever return anyway. But if I do return, I'll be skipping this place. read more

First of all, what a beautiful island, especially during the only season compatible with being a human person.  This place is very conveniently located next to the train station where it inconveniently takes ten thousand rotating steps of escalator to bring you up to island level. The outdoor seating overlooks large patches of grass and bush, and made me feel like I was in a small town in New Hampshire or Upstate New York -- places where Main Street should be called The Only Street. It was perfect for those who hate wind, bugs, heat, or cold, but do enjoy fresh air. Everything we ordered had potato: baked, mashed, and souped. It's very hard to resist a Potato & Leek soup or a Shepherd's pie at an Irish pub, even when there's a brunch menu available. This was a tough one. I made a last minute decision not to get the Irish breakfast and a last second decision not to get the Fish & Chips. Instead, I got a seared salmon with vegetables and mashed potato, but thought about those Fish & Chips the whole time. The salmon was crisp and seasoned with delicious capers. It made me feel like I made a healthy decision, but darn, the fomo. I will simply have to come back. read more

Food is fine. Horrible service from start to finish. No one came to seat us when we enter, the waiters were at the counter doing nothing until I asked twice to be seated. We waited for half an hour until we can finally place our order despite having asked to order. Waiting for the food is the same horrendous experience. It took over 40minutes for our food to arrive and one dish is still missing. It ONLY came after we asked for it. The onion rings didn't arrive even after all the food were finished and it took another ten minutes ONLY AFTER we asked for it. The waiter put the onion rings on the house and that's a nice gesture. I wish I had taken pictures of how big and delicious the food was, but we couldn't wait to eat it - we were hungry, and got hungrier once the food came out! The servers also helped us make decisions based on our food preferences/restrictions, which was nice. We sat outside because it was nice weather and we loved the plants they had set up. The inside was really nice too, with tvs set up and you wouldn't feel like you're sitting on top of the people next to you. RI doesn't have that many food options so this place is probably the best one you can find considering it's the only diner on island. We finally decided to give it a try. Our server was attentive and energetic. All brunch items come with complimentary mimosa or Bloody Mary. However, I didn't feel like drinking so I asked for a coffee instead. But she said they don't do that which makes no sense. Coffee is way cheaper than alcohol. The Irish breakfast was okay. Bloody Mary didn't do it for me. We moved to Roosevelt Island about a month ago and literally went to Granny Annie's 5 times in a week... we even brought our visitors there too. I ordered the Hangover Burger $20 and had an Old Fashion with Bourbon $13. The burger was delicious and the drink was well made. It was quiet and cozy with friendly, smiling, and attentive staff. Beautiful interior with a long gorgeous bar and table and booth seating. It was a relaxing experience. They do have outdoor covered eating at the time that I went if you have your pup with you. The place was clean and warm with nice music playing in the background. Not loud at all. There were families there and groups of friends catching up.
