I'm taking the time to do this because it's the RIGHT AND PROPER thing to do. Here's why. I stopped by this evening to speak with the owner, Finola. Although it was a busy evening and at a late hour, she spent at least 30 minutes listening to and discussing my grievances. She also corrected the issues. I'm AMAZED that she cared enough about me, just 1 single customer, to devote so much time. NO OTHER owner of a busy pub or restaurant would EVER devote that much time to 1 customer. I was actually flattered! That's all ANY customer can expect. It can truthfully be said that Finola genuinely cares. So, come to Finnegan's Wake. If I could give this zero stars, I would. We had a very disappointing experience here while watching the Knicks game with a group of friends. We had been seated, ordered drinks, and several people had already ordered food. Everyone was still actively drinking when a woman who appeared to be the owner approached our table and aggressively told us that we weren't ordering enough food and alcohol. The interaction was completely unprompted and incredibly uncomfortable. Rather than speaking to us professionally, she singled out our group in a crowded restaurant and publicly embarrassed us. She specifically targeted two women in our group, raising her voice and trying to provoke a reaction. She then attempted to escalate the situation further with another woman at our table. At first, we genuinely thought she was joking because the behavior seemed so random and inappropriate. We were simply enjoying the game, having drinks, and spending money as customers. Instead, we were made to feel unwelcome and singled out for no apparent reason. The staff was friendly and the food was decent, which makes this experience even more unfortunate. However, the owner's behavior completely overshadowed everything else (blonde lady). To make matters worse, earlier in the evening she bumped a chair into someone who was seated and didn't even acknowledge it or apologize. The entire situation left our group so uncomfortable that we paid our bill and left. I've never experienced anything like this at a restaurant. So.. what a story I LOVED this bar. I advocated for it when we chose a bar for the Knicks game... ultimately, the manager started screaming at us like we were muts and kicked us out because we didn't order a high enough bar tab even though we spent $250 10 minutes into the game. We were sitting down, had ordered food (an entree each), drinks, having a good time silently and ordered more... but out of nowhere the manager came up and started screaming at us. We were so confused ... it all happened so fast. She accused us of not ordering enough, but frankly, a waiter hadn't really come around. And it was packed you know, it was the Knicks game so we weren't mad about slow service... but it wasn't our fault that her waiters were not moving faster. We would have ordered a lot more if we had the chance.. others around us were equally confused why we were selected to get screamed at. When the manager walked away for a second, one of our friends turned around and watched her walk away and the manager turned around at started attacking her saying she cursed her out which she did not?? Are you insane?? We were all there our friend says NOTHING. SO unprofessional. She screamed at her until my friend got up and left. Someone said she smelled of vodka, so maybe she was drunk. Ultimately, we all closed our tab and left after feeling so struck and confused by this attack. We ordered food and drinks and out of nowhere she screamed at our party and told us we could leave. Mental. Do not go unless you want to spend $300+ bar tab under 10 minutes... lol Ambience was fine. Not worth the trouble. Will not be back... Finnegan is decent for a pub. The staff moves so effortlessly. They don't hover over you. They're fast and efficient. The food is ok. It was a random drop in so I honestly wasn't expecting much. The French onion soup was decent in taste. The burger was ok I did like the blue cheese as a spread on the burger but for $19 it was as small as the sliders my friend order. The French Fries were flavorless and extremely oily to consume, so I didn't touch my fries. I wouldn't go out my way to come here but if I am in the area I might revisit it again. Finnegan's Wake seems like a place loved by locals. It's a solid choice for some food with a decent menu. What drew me in was the French onion soup which was pretty good! For dinner I ordered the beef sliders which were also good but the buns were a bit dry. Food was mid. The service was great and not overbearing. The ambiance was warm and christmasy. It didn't have that traditional alcoholy pub smell which made me feel comfortable dining there. All in all, I would recommend it if you're in the area looking for something easy but not something I would go out of my way for. read more

The worst service experience I have ever had in my life. To be sure the wait staff was kind, the owner however was a nightmare. The owner came to my table and accused us of not ordering food and hogging the table (we had spent over $500 in 3 hours and were still ordering). She hounded us and insulted my friends and I incessantly about being selfish and god knows what else. When I turned around to see if she was treating other tables the same way, she stormed up to me and told me not watch her and then asked if I had been cursing her out. When I said no, she got in my face and yelled at me to the point of tears. I left the restaurant bewildered and in tears as my table tried to understand what happened. She repeated her earlier claims and berated my friend and accused her of "talking shit" earlier in the night, which wasn't even true. Genuinely I wonder if she must have been in some sort of psychosis. My friends all left shocked and bewildered - having paid our $500 tab. As the walked out, she tried to stop them and ask why they were leaving in a genuine state of confusion. She is unwell. I feel horrible for her wait staff. This nice little restaurant has a great menu for everyone. The Irish name of the place has a selection of Irish dishes like bangers and mash, fish and chips, and Shepards pie. They also have nachos which are huge and bang bang shrimp. The fish and chips were very good. They could throw more chips on the plate but very nice. The Finnegan's wake burger was decent. Not complaining. We sat outside on the corner of 1st Ave and 73rd st. It was a very nice evening with people watching was at its premier. The service was excellent and very attentive. Another Door Dash place I discovered. I've never actually been in the restaurant but I have passed by it when I was in that neighborhood. I was really in the mood for Blackened Chicken and when I put a search in Door Dash for it this was one of the restaurants that came up. I immediately took a look here to see reviews and sounded generally positive so I decided to give it a try. I ordered the blackened chicken sandwich without the bun and added Swiss and caramelized onions. Asked for extra pickles and a side of bbq sauce for the fries. It was delicious and best of all, arrived hot and fresh. The chicken was cooked well, and not overly seasoned (blackening seasoning can be salty). They give a generous amount of melted cheese and onions. My only tiny pet peeve is that I wish they gave me the fries in a separate container, so they stay crisp. Otherwise, it's really good and since trying it for the first time, ive ordered a couple times again. read more

The bar is smaller and can be cramped at peak times but they always find a seat for me at the bar which I appreciate. Winter Beer and I came here yesterday for a catch up dinner. We both love pub food and WB has been here before and really liked it. WB got a pint of Stella ($8) and I got a soda ($2.50). We ordered chicken fingers to share ($10). We got three huge pieces of chicken breast. This wasn't what we expected but, we enjoyed it. WB ordered beef sliders ($13) and asked for additional lettuce, tomato, and mayo. When their order came it didn't include mayo. We waited 20 minutes and no one came by so, we got up and ask for mayo. We repeatedly had to get up throughout our dinner to get items. WB did enjoy their sliders but, it is hard to mess up sliders. I ordered the chicken pot pie ($15) and thought it was delicious. It did taste more like chicken chowder soup and needed a bit more salt. The Shrimp N Basket ($16) was tasty but, the fries were a bit too greasy + soaked with oil. I ordered the chocolate mousse cake ($6) and it was okay. It was tasty and not overly sweet. However, I wouldn't say this was the best dessert I ever had. I felt like this was bought pre-made and not made on premises. I noticed a few of the dishes that we had ordered needed additional salt and tasted a bit better with adding salt. The service was okay and the waiter rarely checked in and we had consistently ask for things over and over. We noticed that this place was filled with regulars and can get really busy at times. They do have both indoor and outdoor seating available. Overall, this place has solid comfort food at affordable prices. However, there was nothing really standout that would warrant another visit or going out of my way to visit again. A few things to note - there is a 3% surcharge on credit card use, $3 fee to share plates, 2 credit card limit and $15 min. credit card. The turkey is roasted fresh daily in store! read more

First all the good things -- neighborhood restaurant and friendly atmosphere. I have been there many times. While I have sometimes been disappointed in their shepherd' pie, which Finnegan's says is one of its specialties, the one I had tonight arrived smelling burnt -- the top was a bit singed. The inside was very dry and was not helped by Brown Sauce, which I had to ask for. I chose to saying nothing because I was so hungry and I ate the whole thing. Afterward, I told the waitress who basically said she would tell the kitchen. No apology, no thought of offering me dessert, which I would have declined anyway. I said the kitchen needed to know so they be more careful. I really love this place. It's out of my way, it's worth the journey in my opinion. The vibe always just spot on. The bartender are always super sweet and serve up a mean double gin and soda. (ahhh crisp) And, most importantly -- the clientele is always friendly. You can always meet people willing to chat for hours and buy you a drink. It's a little slice of Cheers really. Every time I've been here, it's locals. And I love it. There's an apartment complex around the corner that a lot of the locals live at. They had amble outdoor seating. No reservation necessary and changed out our potatoes for veggies with no extra cost. Many restaurants only want you to stay an hour, understandably, but because they have tons of seating, they let us stay, because we kept drinking. $7 house cocktails and a pretty full menu. We've been to Finnegan's Wake many, many times..We've enjoyed the sweet and efficient staff, and the informal atmosphere. All that is dead and gone. The proprietress, who has greeted us warmly in the past, literally ran us out of the restaurant on St. Patrick's Day. We each had a drink at the bar and paid for them at the time and then were offered a table inside. We did not drag out our meals. But she barked at us to leave right away and claimed we had not left a tip even though it was sitting right on the table. There must be a psychiatric connection. Mood disorder? Multiple personality? Borderline? and DELIBERATELY humiliated us in front of other diners sitting right next to us. She hurled insult after insult at us BELIEVE ME. We were in shock. She claimed we hadn't given the waitress a tip but it was sitting right there on the table. We are serious overtippers. I reminded her that we were regular customers. At least once sometimes twice a week. She said, "I'm here every day and you're not." I defended us to the hilt but she made sure to treat us like two rats swimming in her shepherd's pie, In front of everyone, and it was packed. The irony is that another couple had arrived before us and were still sitting there eating. It's not enough to say we will never go back. I am going to shower social media with everything about this degrading, mortifying experience. Someday I may even talk about how awful the food is. It's prison food. It's Dinty Moore. My husband came here for dinner during his bachelor years, so whenever we are in the neighborhood we try to catch a meal here for the sake of nostalgia. Nothing changes, which is terrific! They still have the rib roast special on Monday nights, the owner is the same, the comfortable atmosphere ... we love Finnegan's Wake! I had a hamburger which was delicious, and my husband had a grilled cheese with bacon - also delicious. The service was friendly and fast, the crowd clearly local, and the ambiance warm and inviting. It is close to many hospitals/doctors offices so we go between appointments, and my family came here when I gave birth to our twins 28 years ago to celebrate after meeting the boys. Really has nothing great to offer. The menu is as basic as it gets and the food has minimal effort. The least I expect from an Irish bar is to have a good selection of draft beers, nope not even that. Thank goodness they at least have Guinness. So this place has no lunch offers or at least they weren't displayed on the menu. Might be beneficial for a place right by a major hospital. I ordered a grilled cheese with tomato - rye bread and American cheese. I might as well sprayed cheez wiz on bread myself. The cheese was barely melted. I wouldn't be surprised if it was just microwaved. The tomatoes were in huge slices instead of diced like in a proper grilled cheese. I've gotten gourmet grilled cheeses for the same price ($6) as this one smh. And then the Guinness was $7, all the drafts are $7. Regular price for a draft out of happy hour I guess. Just moved to the city and had to catch the Yankees game out. Finnegans was close by and I could see the game was on from outside the window. 4 screens by the bar made it easy to view, and the beer options on tap had the staples- I got yuengling. It was a quiet night- maybe 5 couples all at the bar so apparently it's a good quiet spot for first dates on a Tuesday. The TVs were all Yankees playoff game on mute while the speakers had some oldies going- the medallions I'm gonna make her mine. I have been going here when Don owned it for 25plus years. I encountered the nastiest bartender ever. He thought I put a tissue on the bar when it was my napkin,,, crazy,,, and he went ballistic. Yelling and too boot he gave my the wrong dish before this and he threw the plate, I had to get out as fast as I could bc he seemed unleashed!!!!!
