Smothered Pork Chops, Rice & Gravy, Corn and Cabbage

First time to order from here. Grub Hub delivered and it was still hot. The portion was so much it didn't look like I had eaten at all. I ordered the smothered pork chops over rice along with corn (tasted like fresh off cob), cabbage and fried okra. Everything was so delicious and I highly recommend Granny Dees

Smothered wings over rice, collard greens and cabbage. Everything flavorful and delicious. Wings extremely tender.

Granny Dees kitchen is an outstanding soul food restaurant, a short distance from old town Spring. It's not very large, but the minute you walk through the doors the smells reassure you that you've made a wise decision. Most restaurants, even the best of restaurants do some dishes well and maybe lacking a few others. However, after ordering two meals for my wife and myself, and then ordering another meal to go, I didn't fine a single entrée or side dish that I didn't think was outstanding. The prices are reasonable there's seating available and of course takeout.

Where do I begin. My wife and I were looking for some home made fried chicken. Wasn't really in the mood for large scale places. After a little searching we stumbled upon Granny Dee's! And I must say I am not disappointed at all! We got the fried chicken dinner with Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. The chicken was cooked to order and was perfect! The Mac and cheese was absolutely delicious and the mashed potatoes tasted just like grandmas! My only concern was the cornbread that came with it, a tad bit dry, but warmed it up with some butter and it was perfect! My family and I will most certainly be back in the near future!

Two bites in and .... Wow If you want to delight your taste buds and wonder why the prices are so reasonable, this place will blow your mind. Smother pork chops, rice, mashed potatoes, greens fresh cornbread(with a coke) $15.89. I am doing a happy dance.

I have been two times for lunch. The restaurant is attached next door to a gas station and parking space is limited. My first visit was on a Thursday and I ordered a two piece fried chicken dinner of a leg and thigh with green bean and black eyed peas with tea for $12.98 with tax. The meal came out in about 20 minutes. The chicken was easily a 5. Perfectly battered and fried it was delicious. It's too bad that fried chicken is only offered on Wednesday and Thursday. The veggies were both very good in taste and it came with a moist and flavorful piece of cornbread. This meal was a 5 and made me eager for a return visit. About a week later, I returned on a Sunday for lunch. This time, I went with the smothered pork chops that comes with rice and gravy along with two veggies of which I chose the same two from the previous visit forgetting that I had ordered them then. This meal was ready in about 10 minutes. Meals here are served in to go containers and I like the way they wrap with foil the bread separately from the food. This meal was not to the level of the previous one. My biggest complaint was being given a very dry and stale piece of cornbread. You could look at it and see it was inedible. The smothered pork chops were ok but only rated a 3.5 with the rice, gravy and veggies about the same. This was not a bad meal (except for the cornbread) it just wasn't up to the same level as the fried chicken. With tax and tea it was a little over $14. I will give a 4 overall and would like to try their catfish next time unless it's a Wednesday or a Thursday.

The restaurant itself was also very clean and well kept. However, the staff could definitely improve on friendliness. There was no welcome, no smiles, and the cashier looked upset the entire time. At one point an employee came up to her and they were both snapping at each other, which is not the best first impression for new customers. You guys are first point of contact when we come in, please improve this. Also... the tea?! Guys, this was some of the BEST tea ever! So how do you run out of tea?! I do want to give special recognition to the bus lady. She was extremely attentive, constantly on her feet making sure everyone was taken care of. She kept our waters filled, checked on us often, and overall gave amazing customer service. Even when she had to tell us there was no more tea, she was still so kind and helpful. Honestly, she's the reason we would come back. The front line staff... not so much. 3 stars for the server, line cashier but 5 stars go to Ms Lupe!

Food: 4.8/5 Service: 3.5/5…read moreAmbiance: 5/5 I've been wanting to try this place ever since I first heard of it and my anticipation going into the restaurant for the first time with family was insanely high. We ended up not going because of the wait but I went back with a friend earlier today and it was REALLY good. Like insanely good. I got the Chicken and Gravy while my friend got the Chicken and Waffles and we both finished our plates cleanly. The service was slow, yes, but they were extremely nice and did have multiple prefaces regarding the wait time. The only I had food wise was that the candied sweet potatoes were a little too sweet for me (and trust me, I love myself some candied sweet potatoes) and I feel like the okra or another one of the sides would've been a better fit for me. The chicken I had was extremely tender and juicy, and the gravy had the perfect amount of sweet and salty where I just gobbled it down with everything. The vibe is nice and homey and overall this place was just great. It for sure isn't someplace you can rush through in 30 minutes, but that kinda adds to the experience that you get the minute you walk in.

We were sat relatively quick, I would put reservation for this place if I were you, but when we came it wasn't too busy. We were sat and was greeted by our server, Fabian. The vibe was very nice, had the R&B jams in the background but wasn't overly loud to where you can't converse. It was a beautiful sunny day outside and it reflected all throughout the large windows of the restaurant. A+ for the ambiance. We started off with mimosa carafes for the table, great blend of juice and champagne. No complaints at all about the mimosas. He started us with a round of biscuits, with butter & jelly on the side. Would give it overall rating of 8.5/10, I actually liked them they weren't too sweetened like other biscuits. For food, I ordered the Buttermilk Waffles, turkey links, and side of Smoked Gouda Mac & Cheese. The food was good, above average in my opinion. The buttermilk waffles weren't overly crisp but still had nice warm flavor (8.7/10), turkey links were satisfactory (8.1/10), and the mac & cheese was above average as well, not out of this world but pretty good nonetheless (8.0/10). In my opinion, I give this restaurant a 5-stars, not just because of the food (4 stars), but just the overall experience. The ambiance was great, our server was hilarious, kept us entertained the entire time, and they were convenient nonetheless. They do 20% auto-gratuity as well. Was a calmer brunch with a good vibe, something that is very underrated in a city like Houston. I would recommend this place if you have older adult family in town or if you want an experience more... "demure" for a Sunday. I heavily recommend you ask for Fabian as well, very good server for us.

I ordered the chicken & waffles and the portion size was very hefty. The chicken was huge, juicy, and crispy enough to make a satisfying crunch but missing a little extra seasoning. Brown Convention Center so it's a super convenient stop whether you're downtown for an event, conference, or just roaming the city looking for good eats and good energy.

Green beans were well seasoned. The turkey wings could've used a little more seasoning. Corn bread was excellent. Another area for improvement is the customer service. Rice overcooked/gummy, greens/cabbage was more of steamed and served, the mac & cheese super dry and made with cheap cheese, yams taste like they came from a can and allspice was added, the pork chops were old and gravy added to them, the turkey legs were cooked with gravy added over them, cornbread is simply jiffy mix, the banana pudding was spoiled and was still sold, the spaghetti was simply meat cooked with bottled spaghetti sauce and add to the noodles and that catfish had a super fishy taste. The only decent thing was the drink and pralines. This is not homemade soul food and you can tell, nothing is made from scratch or made with love. For the price I should have just went to Mikkis because this was horrible and I only gave 1 star for the okay customer service.
