There is one old guy that will play 2-3 machines and mind you there are only 4 machines available. Went in with family to order to go. Was greeted immediately and checked on constantly . Our wait was about 20-25 mins but once we received our food 10/10 . Staff and environment felt friendly and homey. Waitress made sure to check our food was correct herself . Can't wait to go back and try more items ! Came her with my parents and husband on a Saturday afternoon. My dad raved about a catfish dish they had- Catfish Mardis Gras, so my husband and I split it with a bowl of gumbo on the side. The cream sauce on this dish is out of this world. This is definitely a must try! The gumbo had a little too much chicken for my taste, but overall we really enjoyed ourselves. My mom got pancakes bc they also have breakfast - and these were the biggest pancakes I had ever seen! She loved them and even took some home with her due to the massive portion. The owner of Cormier's bought Janie's Bar less than a year ago, and proceeded to fire every single one of the excellent staff that worked there, one at a time. I will never set foot in this place or Jak's Bar (formerly Janie's) ever again, and I encourage everyone to find other businesses that value their staff. Definitely not Louisiana cooking. It was mediocre at best. I had to ask for my shrimp poboy to be dressed with lettuce tomato pickles and onions and tartar sauce. There were three young children running around the restaurant I believe they belonged to a worker. I don't know if you're on the new management but you gotta get better I keep referring people to this restaurant and I don't want them to come. If you are hard frying the Poboy I don't remember our waitress name. She had dark hair, but she was very Friendly and attentive. I have to give it to her normally we get Shirley but sure was busy with other tables. I took my sandwich home and I was gonna give it to a homeless guy, but I forgot it was in the backseat of the car. Fish should not be fried like Chicharron's. Lastly, the restaurant was clean. I can't appreciate that. I'm from Louisiana and sometimes I go in there and it just reminds me of Home and that's why I support y'all but if y'all gonna be frying my fish like Chicharron, I'm gonna have to find another place . Let me start by saying the food for the most part is really good. We live 3 minutes away and have been looking for somewhere we can hang out that has good food, good atmosphere, and good service. We got 2 out of 3 today. The service was pretty bad and the waitress Valeri was quite rude w/o being upfront about it. Example: I was drinking soft drink that came in can with a cup of ice. When I was done I asked for another and I put my can inside cup. She removed the can from my cup and was going to just bring me another can. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, the bread flaky and buttery. The sauce they used on the shrimp was *chefs kiss* not sure if it was some kind of remoulade or just a cream sauce but it took it over the top. My wife was stealing shrimp and dunking it around the sauce left and right. My wife had jambalaya and it got her seal of approval, high praise as she is from Louisiana. Fantastic food! And our waitress was hustling! We started with Boudin balls to share. They had amazing flavor! Possibly my favorite item we had here today. We ordered separate dishes, but tried everything: I got the Chicken and sausage gumbo. The flavors were really good. The potato salad that came with it reminded me of deviled eggs. Hubby got 2lbs of the crawfish boil. Great flavors! It had potatoes and corn, but wasn't just filled with that. My son got the catfish platter- probably the most perfeft catfish I've had before. The fish was soft and flaky and had amazing flavor. Also loved the coleslaw and hushpuppies that came with it. My daughter ordered the crawfish Mac n cheese- that was also one of my faves that we ordered. The flavors were to die for! My other daughter got the biscuits and sausage gravy. They were ok, but overpriced for what you get IMO. She also got a side of pancakes, and those were super tasty! My other son got the seafood pasta. Well I found really good Gumbo in H-Town...(Almost as good as mine ) they even serve it with a side of potato salad as it should be. If you haven't added potato sales to gumbo you're missing out. Just had an awkward experience here. I came in and was seated at the bar. One of the bartenders asked if I wanted a drink and I ordered an iced tea. She disappeared. Another bartender asked if I had been helped. I was ready to order my food but he too walked away. It was like I was a ghost. After 15 minutes of being ignored I got up and walked out and went next door to the sports bar where I was acknowledged and welcomed. DO NOT come here unless you want to be ignored. Stopped in on our way back from an appointment. The "southern food" sign drew our attention. When you first walk in, it looks more like a bar that opens up early, with slot machines off to the side. We have small children so we just turned around to walk out. One of the waitresses followed us out and sweetly encouraged us to come back, talked about the great food, and how kids come eat all the time, I'm glad she did. The food was delicious! I ordered the catfish with dirty rice. The catfish was fried perfectly, the Cajun sauce was very flavorful and the dirty rice was amazing. Initially it came out incorrect, but they were so kind and helpful to correct the platter. Our waitress was very attentive, extremely knowledgeable about the menu and weekly specials. Came in for lunch with two friends and the service was good the first half but it seems she ran out of time and started rushing us out. Stated 3x she wanted us to close out because she had to leave instead of us asking if we wanted to pay or transfer the tab. She just threw the tab down and walked away. She then gave me attitude when I asked the next bartender for another drink while I was in the process of paying said tab...
