I waited almost an hour for a table for two, the food wait was well over 30 minutes. We traveled from Johnson City because of the rave reviews. I reminded the cashier when we left that of the wait time we endured, but then I reminded her: 1) I would endure (and still do) the miles traveled, the wait for the table, the wait for the food because: A) the food was (and still is) outstanding, real home made and cooked to order B) the wait staff was always moving at warp speed and polite and courteous C) our waitress was unbelievably friendly and attentive - even though she had at least 5 tables packed with customers D) We have (and will continue to) come back many times for the QUALITY food and service. Yes, be prepared to wait, but oh, the rewards consistently outweighs the wait. If you want fast food, go to Macdonald's, if you want QUALITY FOOD AND SERVICE, then come to Granny D's. Happen to come across this place about 1:45 pm up by the dam at Canyon Lake. For your edification they close daily at 2 pm. Staff was nice even though we made them stay over a bit and were pleasant even at the end of a long day for them. It was a quaint building with nothing real special about the decor but that's ok. The food was homemade and fantastic! I had fried catfish with 2 yummy sides (I may just get 2 sides of onion rings next time as they were delicious) and my wife had grilled pork chop off the senior menu with green beans and mashed potatoes. All were homemade and had great flavor. Breakfast is served all day and I understand their pancakes are huge! We will be going back soon. read more

An hour after being seated, we still hadn't received our food and were offered only four biscuits for the entire table. We noticed that several groups who arrived after us had already been served, finished their meals, and were leaving. Ten minutes later, the waitress came by to take our order, but got distracted when my mom asked for creamer. I completely forgot she had already asked for our order. After 20 minutes with no service, my mom had to get up to flag down the waitress, who seemed genuinely shocked and embarrassed that she had forgotten us. Once we finally ordered, the wait became unbearable. After flagging the waitress down again to ask about our food, she estimated another 10 minutes. By this time, our patience was running thin, and we eventually asked another waitress to check on our order. Just as we were about to leave, our food arrived -- nearly an hour later, with no apologies. The pancakes were practically tossed at us, and though the banana foster pancakes were actually quite good, everything else seemed store-bought and frozen. Southern- Hill Country hospitality at its finest. There are so many wonderful things to say about this restaurant. First of all the management/ servers welcome you with open arms and are the sweetest and most kind people that I've ever met. Second of all the food is out of site. I love the ginormous pancakes that are cooked to perfection and the creamy and perfectly salted grits. I ordered a pretty basic breakfast with eggs and toast, but the menu will please anyone and trust me you will not be disappointed. I love it so much I had to go back the next day and try to conquer the pancake- I failed but it was worth every bite trying. Please stop by this place.
