Been coming to this donut shop for years. Even though I don't live close by anymore, I still swing by when I'm in the area to get a Thai tea and/or a milk tea boba with a donut. Their donuts have always been delicious and fresh. Never have I gotten a stale or old donut. They have quite a good variety too. They also have yummy sandwiches that they make there on the spot. Other items that they sell are beverages like coke, monster, milk etc. They also sell ice cream. They are limited on the flavors, but hey, at least you have the option to buy ice cream there. They also have other miscellaneous items for sale like gum, cup o noodles, etc. The only bummer about this place (besides the parking situation sometimes) is that it's a cash only establishment. Make sure to have cash, otherwise, they have an ATM in there, but you know how those surcharge fees creep up. read more

Ah Granny's... A place after my own heart, literally. I try my best to avoid fried foods as much as possible but I just can't shake the donut cravings, and generally speaking, like Lays, it's hard for me to eat just one. This place offers up a plentiful selection of freshly made donuts, croissants, muffins and bagels, the latter of which, they'll warm, serve with cream cheese or even magically transform into breakfast sandwich deliciousness for you... This is a great local donut shop. It's like a 7-11 but with donuts and breakfast sandwiches. We love to stop here before heading to big events down the hill. Straight up, really good blueberry filled donut. Other than that my 2 minute visit made me not want to come any more. I came in around a non-peak time, no one in line, I hadn't been in there in a while so I wanted to look around. When I told the lady if I could have a second, I looked up and her beady eyes were staring me down through the donut shelving and glass. No joke, she locked on me like I was going to steal something. Any who, I picked my donuts, I met her at the register and she gave me my total, gave her the money, got my change, and she just walked away. I tipped her monetarily because it was certainly better than the kind of tips that were going to come out of my mouth. I know your hours of operation are long, and all the individuals have really long days . . . we all do, and no one is asking you to do cartwheels and always give cheesin' smiles. You go, Granny! Wow, Granny is a busy lady. Besides her fantastic fro-yo shop, Granny also runs this 24 hour donut shop. I bet Granny lives off of those 5 hour energy drinks because there is no way a woman of her age could have enough pep in her step to successfully run two awesome shops without a little energy boost. Granny's Donuts is located in San Pedro, in the same tiny parking lot as Granny's Yogurt. Granny's Donuts has been around a lot longer than her newer fro-yo shop. In fact I heard it has been there for over twenty or so years. My Yelp buddy Ciara G claims that Granny's Donuts is her all time favorite donut shop and that they offer an amazing variety of fresh and tasty donuts. Well, since I live pretty close to Pedro I decided to check this place out for myself to see if all the great things Ciara said were true. Well, Ciara was right (she always is) because Granny's offers some really fresh and tasty donuts. Since reading Ciara's review I have already visited Granny's three times. Just like Ciara said in her review, "No matter what time you go (open 24hrs) their case is always full with plenty of donut delights". So far I have tried her apple fritters, bear claws, chocolate and regular glazed, cream, jelly, chocolate chip and even blueberry filled donuts. Even if it's two am (my first visit) Granny's Donuts are extremely fresh. I have yet to have a stale donut from Granny's. My favorite donut so far has to be the bear claws. These delicious donuts truly are the size of a bears claw and are filled with a fantastic cinnamon filling. Besides donuts Granny's also offers all types of coconut macaroons, croissants, cookies, drinks and even sandwiches. I have tried Granny's chocolate covered and blueberry filled macaroons and they were both amazing. They had a nice crunchy outside and a soft, moist inside. The prices at Granny's Donuts are the same as every other mom and pop donut shop. A few bucks will buy you a cute greasy pink box full of fresh, tasty donuts. Granny only accepts cash at her donut shop but she does have an ATM available on site in case you only carry plastic around in your wallet or purse. In all honesty Granny's Donuts may not be the best tasting donuts I have ever had but they were still really good and they are defiantly some of the freshest I have ever come across. I'm upping a star bc Granny's Donuts IS my favorite donut shop and has been for my whole life. No matter what time you go (open 24hrs) their case is always full with plenty of donut delights. And for me, a donut is never complete without chocolate milk and they always have the large and small size available. The got a huge makeover a while back and now have a full sandwich menu as well as boba menu. If they have the ham and cheese croissant available when you go (bc you are going to go) GET IT! Real rating is 3.5...but it's San Pedro so round up to 4. NUMBER OF VISITS: Probably 20 over the last 20 years WOULD I COME BACK: When I'm in the mood for a doughnut and don't want to drive too far. I'm not typically a huge doughnut consumer. Only in the last year have I really eaten more doughnuts, but that's only because of the whole cronut craze. However, when I do get a doughnut, I usually judge it's yumminess by how much of a waxy/oily feeling it leaves in the roof of my mouth. Do you know what I mean? I hate it when you eat a cake doughnut and at the end of it all, there's this oily/waxy feeling where you have to scrape it off with a napkin or something...maybe that's just me. Or maybe that's why people eat it with coffee, so the hot coffee melts off the oils. Anyway, I digress.... Here at Granny's Donuts, I typically don't get that feeling. And so the doughnuts are A-OK with me here. FOOD CONSUMPTION: Blueberry doughnut: I've been into blueberry doughnuts lately and the ones here are good but I've had better. You can't really taste the blueberry flavor, but it's there. Probably a 3.5 star in comparison to others. Red Velvet: it's been a while since I've had this. It was ok...not very memorable. 3 stars. Glazed Chocolate Twist: (I don't know if that's what it's really called but that's what it looks like to me). It's ok.... 3.5 stars. Ham n Cheese Croissant: They warm it up for you. It's just ham n cheese...it's good. Better to add a kick with ketchup and tabasco sauce...but that's just me. 3.5 stars. Customer Service: It's whatever. Run by Asians...you either get really friendly "Anything you like I do for you" service or "Hurry up and make your decision" attitude. Here...it's mostly just "Hurry up and make your decision." I was very pleasantly surprised when my dad brought home Granny's donuts on a Sunday morning. They were delicious! SOO much better than those chain donut places. Unlike Krispy Kreme, the donuts here are bigger and have more fluffiness inside, which is what I strongly prefer. My favorite of theirs are the glazed donuts. I my family and I have been going to Grannys for at least 30 years. I used to say "They are the best donuts anywhere" I got some donuts today and they were inedible. I ended up throwing them in the trash. They were smaller, unattractive, undercooked and mushy. Not sure what's going on there. Maybe training someone? A san pedro delicacy! You know this place is good when its cash only. Their doughnuts are fresh crispy on the outside yet soft and fluffy on the insides. If you want a special order they will make you a special batch if you call ahead just give them an hour or 2. My go to are the blueberry jelly filled !
