I come here at least once or twice a week. Most donuts are a buck and some ranges 1.10-1.50. Plus they got macaroons for a dollar 50! Also they taste good?! They don't take check or credit cards and they don't accept bills over $20. They do have an ATM, but it charges you $2 and what ever charge your back hits you with. My 2 dozen doughnuts is going to coat an extra $4 in bank fees. They need to get Square or Tile or something. read more

This place is legit. It's open 24/7 just like any donut shop worth it's salt. We showed up at 11:30pm and every donut variety was still available. Racks were full in the back and someone was mixing more in the back. We were overwhelmed by choices! We ended up going with a raspberry filled buttermilk and a blueberry cake. We were happy with both, but the filled buttermilk was a super preemo moment. It had the crunchy shell with a soft inside and the raspberry filling was perfectly tart. It had the perfect balance. Granny's Donuts has been there as long as I can remember. Their donuts are one of the best in the area. I like them better than many other places out there. Do not expect extremely warm and friendly service. They are nice enough and their donuts more than make up for it. They also serve boba which is the closest place to my house - it is ok and will serve in a pinch when I don't want to drive far. Granny's Donuts have been in my diet since the 80's! Expect to find a good sized donut shop at the southwest corner of Western and Summerland. The parking tends to get full, they have 2-3 other store fronts which frequently cause the lot to be at capacity. What I like is that they have big glass cases full of donuts, they get enough foot traffic that they are ALWAYS fresh. These cases of donuts also contain a good variety, not just the standard fare, as an example, they might have 6 different combinations of sprinkle donuts. They also have plenty of good beverage choices to help wash down the donuts. If you want to hang around and eat, they have a couple of tables inside and there are a few tables outside, but the outside tables feel like part of the parking lot. When it comes to donuts in PV/San Pedro - Granny's Donuts are as good as any you will find. read more

Went to Granny's for the first time the other night after a long binge working sesh. Showed up around 3:30 am and the owner was cranking out hot fresh donuts right then. There's nothing like a fresh hot donut, been eating them all my life and had never done this but it's totally different than eating a donut thats cooled off. At the time I came in he was making the maple bars and he sold me one literally seconds after it had been iced. Wow! Maple bars are my all time favorite and this was the best one I've ever had. Bought some maple bars, glazed, plain cake, blueberry, and last but not least, a sugar donut. Everything was delicious and I washed it down with regular milk and chocolate milk just like I've been doing since I was a kid. It's been a while since I started this review. I don't really eat donuts anymore. But, it's a review that needs to be finished, so....They do have a pretty good selection but there are better donut shops out there. For some reason that doesn't seem to matter because this place does excellent business. If you plan to come here on a Saturday or Sunday morning, try to come early because they get kind of busy. This place has everything and I mean everything, they seriously should consider renaming this place Granny's Wal Mart. The donuts are fresh and it always smell wonderful. Kind of what I imagine the best yet to be created cologne to smell like. They carry an assortment of refreshing bottled beverages as well as beverages on tap and store made fruit smoothies. Fresh ice cream and bananas. Coffee lover? They have 6 different flavors, can someone say Starbucks 2.0? Do you like Subway? Well they have their own sandwich bar here and believe you me, it's good. Ask for Jason if he's available, I believe he has a B.A. in sandwich arts. Does your car stink? Someone tossed in it yesterday from too much partying? They have car fresheners. Are you someone who is considering a tattoo but are unsure, hesitant perhaps? They also carry temporary tattoos. A Laker fan? Perhaps Dodgers? They have a television, flat screen in fact. Have a big butt? They have firm chairs for support. A bony butt? They also have soft comfy chairs. Studying the Cambodian language or perhaps a little used dialect of Chinese? The friendly staff here can help you with that. Are you a gambling man? Or maybe you're just lucky all the time, well they have the lotto here as well. Hot Spot, Daily 3, Mega Millions, Scratchers, you name it, they got it. To round it out they also sell instant noodle soups, candy, and cereal. They have such a diverse client base here as well. Just today I met a super doctor of sorts, part hero, part doctor from what I can deduce. Honestly though the best part is the staff, they are the friendliest. Granny's Donuts on the corner of Western (and Summerland) in San Pedro gets 5 stars because they have super tasty, FRESH donuts. And, believe it or not, they make a GREAT latte (that I prefer over Starbuck's or Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf). When I am in desperate need of a donut...or three, Granny's is the place that is first on my list. The place looks very clean (because they renovated many years ago). They have an extra jumbo glass display case...where you can see all of the donuts. And, they have another huge refrigerated display case for drinks. The service is SUPER QUICK. Seriously, you can be in and out in less than 2 minutes. No credit cards, just cash. Parking is tight in their small busy lot, but if you are patient for a minute or two, you can always get a spot. Granny's is in a new building built on its former site, which it now shares with a nail salon and a payday loan scheister -- not great company and it complicates the parking, never too organized. The old Granny's was charming in a run-down old-shoe kind of way. The new Granny's is larger, and totally sterile and charmless. Even the owner does not seem as spritely or happy in his new setting. Prices have gone up by ten percent, quality about the same but a smaller selection. And the newsrack of free local papers to read with your coffee is gone. This was not a change that turned out well. My old reasons for stopping at Granny's have ended up in the trashpile. If I am going to eat donuts in a modern sterile environment, there are other spots more convenient. Too bad. read more

Pretty decent selection, usually very fresh and they're open 24 hours with an outside table if you need a quick smoke with your coffee and donut. They also make other baked items, breakfast stuff and more... The always-open hours are very convenient! Always friendly, too. Maybe one star off for one not-so-good zip bag of donut holes so just avoid those. That, and the drinks aren't super cold at night, they probably turn down their cooler. read more

I came here because the yelp ratings were good and was craving donuts. I got sprinkled donut holes, bear claw, cinnamon roll, a churro, the original non glazed donut, and the glazed blueberry donut. When I got home, the first thing I tried were the donut holes. Nothing special. As a matter of fact, everything tasted the same as any other donut shop. Oh and not to mention, the churro and cinnamon roll were stale and had to throw them away. I don't see how this place can get a rating of more than 3 stars. read more

Stopped by here on a Sunday about a month ago, and probably won't go back. Rather than donuts, I got a couple of their breakfast sandwiches (one on bagel, one carb-less) and both were forgettable. The carb-less version used egg whites as the 'bread' but the eggs were so wet that it was the messiest (and rather unappetizing) meal I'd bought my hub in quite a while (sorry hub!). I don't even remember what I got. The main reason for my 2 star review is that the service was rude and pushy. Two women and one man working the counter and I was only one of two patrons at the time, and the woman helping me was so impatient! It was my first time there and I was having trouble deciding and she just kept asking me 'are you ready?' 'decided?' 'still deciding?' I ordered under the gun for sure. The coffee is bleh, Famers Bros. Part of the shop looks like a liquor store (totally random candy, stuff, and lotto tickets cover one wall). I'd give Granny's 5 stars but the fact they messed up my order when I vehemently informed them to make a substitution knocks it down. I'd say the prices are very fair and reasonable, the atmosphere adequate, parking manageable, and the fact that it's 24 hours is a nice bonus. In this day and age, making it a "cash only" establishment can be a bit inconvenient. I ordered a ham, egg, and cheese croissant sandwich but asked them to replace the ham with bacon since my pregnant wife cannot eat cold cuts. The clerk charged me an extra $0.25 for the substitution, which is fine. However, once we got to our destination and opened up the wrapper, there was ham inside! Drive by this place a lot and stop in not as much. It's almost always packed and seems beloved by the folks in Pedro. I always get the apple fritter because it has fruit in it, so it's gotta be healthy ;) The fritter is usually tasty, but sometimes they've been a little doughy in the center. I also like that they're not mega sized. We've also ordered the assorted dozen and generally, they tasted like your typical cakey, sweet donut. The parking situation really discourages you from just "stopping" in when you get a hankering for a donut, which probably isn't such a bad thing for your health. The owners are friendly. They offer sandwiches, boba, and smoothies in addition to the donuts since the remodel. Also, this place is cash only. read more

Delicious doughnuts. Good coffee station. Too bad I had a couple insensitive moments there. Yesterday, I walked in with my husband (a Black man) and the lady at the counter asked me 3 times if he was with me. I said yes the 1st time; why do you have to ask me 2 more times? On a regular basis, I see the same crew looking down on Latino people feeding their children doughnuts for breakfast. 1) Your cultural sensitivity/awareness needs improvement. 2) Do you really need to look down on your customers? BTW, I understand that stereotypes are difficult to surpass. However, the don't even try to make attempts to be aware of their prejudice. Also, I am aware of the unhealthy choice the families are making for breakfast and guess what they probably know too. Granny's Donuts is a good sized donut shop at the southwest corner of Western and Summerland. The parking lot is generally PACKED on Saturday because the nail shop in the center is jammed, so I recommend trying to grab a street spot. They have huge cases of donuts, which were very full at 11AM on a Saturday. There are a couple of tables inside and there are a few tables out front on the "patio." I stopped in for a donut, because I was running errands in the area and was in dire need of something fast (shouldn't go shopping without snacks when you are 8.5 months pregnant and have a 2 year old). I ran in and ordered my "go-to" apple fritter. For $1.25 (cash only), I was in and out for a bargain. The fritter was delicious. They are thin (about 1" thick) and about the size of a compact disc (remember those kids?), which means that you have LOTS of crisp nooks and crannies and no doughy spots with no texture. There is not a ton of apple in it, but it definitely has the flavor and I saw a couple of little chunks. The glaze is generous and good. It was a little chewy in parts, and I can't say that it is the best fritter that I have ever had (those have to be hot out of the fryer with no chewiness), but I am DEFINITELY a fan and would come back in a heartbeat. I am a big fan of what I deem the "ghetto doughnut shop". You know, usually found in a run down strip mall next to a check cashing place and a cheapo nail salon. This place closed for a few months for refurbishment, and I'm so glad it's back. The pastries are tasty, the prices cheap, the coffee is fresh and the service is speedy. It's open 24 hours a day, and the clientele can be colorful. On a recent morning a woman came in to order coffee and (her words) the cheapest cigarettes they had. I knew this was my kind of place! They also have a cooler with water and sodas, which is handy when I want to grab some drinks for work. No credit or ATM cards taken here, but the shop has an ATM. You can also buy lotto tickets here. Coffee, doughnuts, cigs and lotto - classy! But I love it. Throw a litlte something in the tip jar - these girls hustle their asses! read more

Ok, never been to this place before but thought I would stop by and pick up a dozen for my crew. Today being as how it is National Donut Day. Terrible is the only way to describe their donuts. Undersized with a minimal amount of toppings and bad taste all the way around. You would have thought one out of the dozen would be decent but not so here. Definitely will never go back and highly recommend nobody else waste your money there. If you want a truly good donut I would highly recommend Moon Donuts on prospect and Torrance blvd in Redondo Beach. Hands down the Best around. read more

Well, it is a good place to stop when it is convenient... Which isn't often seeing all the traffic on Western during any given hour of the day. When it was the old donut shop - I went often enough. Even tho it had a "B" rating. (I actually quit patronizing for about a year once - cuz there was a fly buzzing around in the display case)... But, the donuts called me back.. after a time.... and no more buzz buzz... I was reasonable comfortable there again. Then there is this big remodel - new places, bigger place...
