After a long drive from Pinnacles National Park to the Sequoia and Kings Canyon area, we ended up at Grant Grove Restaurant because it was one of the only nearby places to eat close to Stony Creek Lodge. By that point, honestly, we would probably have eaten tree bark with ketchup if someone had served it with confidence. The food itself was decent, though nothing especially memorable. We had a salad, a bowl of chili, and a chocolate cake. The chili was probably the standout of the meal, comforting after a long day on the road. Everything else was fine, solid, and exactly what you would expect from a national park restaurant just waking up for the season. What stood out much more than the food was the effort of the staff. The restaurant had only recently reopened and was clearly not fully prepared for the season crowds yet. There seemed to be only one host, one overwhelmed server, and a couple of busboys trying to hold the entire operation together with determination and caffeine fumes. Service was slow, but honestly, it was not because anyone did not care. Quite the opposite. The staff was genuinely kind, patient, and trying their absolute best under pretty chaotic circumstances. You could clearly see there was not enough training, not enough systems in place, and simply not enough people. Still, they stayed friendly and professional throughout, and we genuinely appreciated that. The real magic of the experience was eating outside on the patio surrounded by the woods. The views and atmosphere completely carried the evening. There is something special about sitting among the trees, breathing mountain air, and finally relaxing after hours of winding roads through the parks. Overall, come here more for the setting and the experience than for gourmet dining. The food may not change your life, but the scenery just might. read more

We ordered takeout dinner and sit down breakfast on April 27 and 28th 2026. I had rather low expectations but was pleasantly surprised with both meals. Our dinner takeout consisted of cheeseburger, chicken sandwich and chicken salad sandwich wrap. All items came with one side and we ordered the pesto pasta salad which was really quite excellent. The cheeseburger and all the ingredients they put on it including their special sauce really hit the spot and my son said the chicken sandwich was tasty and delicious. The chicken salad wrap was a different version consisting of grilled chicken pieces along with variety of vegetables. For breakfast the three of us ordered the hikers breakfast which consisted of two scrambled eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and your choice of either pancakes or French toast. The breakfast really hit the spot and everything was done just right. I especially appreciated the Bacon which had been degreased. The two pancakes were huge and we were not able to finish them but they had a really nice flavor to them. The hashbrowns were the only thing that could've been improved upon and that would have been by having them been more crispy. The one thing I wasn't particularly pleased with was the ordering system where they use the kiosk system as you would find at McDonald's. You notify them whether you're going to be takeout or eat in and you designate which table you're sitting at and they bring the food to you once prepared. This system clearly cuts down on manpower and can be very efficient based on the skill of the user. Unfortunately had the worst coffee I've tried in a while here. Ordered a brown sugar specialty iced coffee which took so long to make. Someone handed it to us and immediately disappeared back into the kitchen immediately. It tasted like I ordered an iced latte 2 hrs ago and it all melted. I think they just poured boiling coffee over ice and added the syrup. After waiting for 15 min we finally found a staff member and asked for a remake. They were really nice and did remake it but it was somehow worse. So we just asked for a cup of black coffee to mix it with and that was a slight improvement. I'm rating for what it is--a seasonal mountain restaurant. Might give 3 stars if in town. Orders are taken at the host desk, so you do need to know your full order before being seated. Our experience with service was better than some of the other reviewers--wait at desk wasn't too long and food came reasonably quickly. (I suspect one reviewer with a terrible experience in late May might have been there soon after the summer season started, when staff was still learning the ropes.) However, we were there at about 11:30 am on a Wednesday. The line had grown by the time we left, and I can only imagine it's slammed on weekends. They could alleviate this by adding kiosk ordering. We failed to note the name of my husband's sandwich, and oddly it's not on the menu at the restaurant's own website (only hours after we were there). It was pulled meat with green peppers, bacon, and mushrooms on a hoagie roll, and he liked it a lot. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and was less impressed--the sandwich itself was fine, but the chicken was overcooked and dry. Pesto pasta salad and vegetarian soup as our sides were pretty good. The servers were efficient and polite, but I couldn't find one when I wanted a to go cup and the host line was busy, so I gave up. Water is self service. Inside is a little on the dark side, but with a nice mountain feel. The outside deck (partly in sun) is nice, but the back deck is shaded and great. We had a beautiful view of a meadow, a lovely breeze, and there aren't too many tables out there. There aren't a lot of options in this part of the park, so this is a nice one to have, along with the store, gift shop, and visitor center. If in the area and you don't want to come here, the short drive up to Hume Lake provides more options, especially during the summer when the Christian camps are running and they're fully staffed with everything open. I got no receipt and literally had to open the door to the kitchen to verify that they had received my order. I am ok with kiosks, but the elderly people behind us were not. They do serve you quick though and depending on what you order, it could literally meet you at your table while you're sitting down. My wife and I came and ate food here 3 times during our trip to Kings Canyon National Park. We overall had a great experience and it proved to be convenient and affordable compared to some of the other restaurants we went to outside of the parks. Grant Grove has a nice space, a cabin-lodge feel with plenty of seating inside and outside. In our first visit (which I would have given 3 stars) I ordered a chicken salad wrap--unfortunately the wrap was 70% lettuce with only what felt like a spoonful of chicken salad--I was pretty disappointed (feel free to look at the pics attached for reference). Came with a bag of chips on the side. In our 2nd visit we came in the early morning, around 7:15 AM for breakfast. (5 stars) I ordered the "Hikers Breakfast"--scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon and a couple of pancakes. I was super impressed, the breakfast was hearty and got us super full, ready for a long day of hiking. The hash browns were crisp and the pancakes were nice and fluffy. Was a great start to our day!! I had an iced coffee with vanilla syrup to down it all (also so good). In our last visit to Grant Grove I ate the Caprese Panini with a side of fruit (5 stars). The pesto was delicious and the sandwich's warmth and the melted mozzarella made me want more. Fruit was.....just fruit! Decided to go a "healthier route," and it was overall a good meal. Food from national parks is usually nothing to write home about, but unfortunately this was worse than usual. Ordering is very confusing/doesn't work as they have electronic kiosks that intermittently work. Food prices aren't horrible, but still high for what you get. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and it was beyond overcooked and dry that even ketchup didn't help. It's really the only option besides packing in your own food, which we had already done for our other meals. We placed our order w/ her but the machine was down so luckily we had cash. The restaurant is large and there's an outdoor deck that overlooks the forest. The WORST "restaurant" experience of my life. Avoid at all costs! Let me paint you a picture. You've just spent the day hiking through the breathtaking Sequoias, you're sunburned, exhausted, and dreaming of a decent meal. You stumble into Grant Grove Restaurant, hoping for some relief. Instead, you walk straight into a Dante's Inferno of incompetence. First red flag: no staff in sight. Seriously. No greeter, no server, no human presence anywhere, just the occasional glimpse of someone ducking into the back kitchen behind a door marked "NO ENTRY." God forbid they accidentally help someone. You order food through a buggy kiosk system that freezes, glitches, and creates a backup of hangry, confused customers forming a sad little conga line of misery. And when your food finally arrives, after an eternity, it's not only served without plates or napkins, but you get to discover a little extra topping: a HAIR in your meal. Bon appétit! I paid $18 for a pizza with FOUR slices. Yes, four. This overpriced, underwhelming cardboard excuse for a meal wouldn't fill a toddler. And when you go to get ice water? The self-serve tank is bone dry. You politely ask for a refill. What do they say? "Go fill your cup by the bathroom sink." I am not joking. Apparently, basic hydration is a DIY project at Grant Grove. The staff, when they do emerge from their cryptic hiding spots, are completely clueless and unwilling to help. Every request is met with blank stares and shrugs like you're speaking a foreign language. This place is a catastrophic joke. Do yourself a favor: eat literally anywhere else. Eat bark. For as beautiful as the national park is, this restaurant is absolutely lousy. It's self service at a kiosk when you walk in but no greeter in case you need help. And you can't make any modifications. Our meal for three was $75 for dinner. The food took an hour to come to our table. It was the right order but waiting an hour was crazy for a salad, a hot dog, and a sandwich. The food was completely lack luster. And several of the tables around us also were waiting long times and/or incorrect food order received. Our food specifically was soggy and not good at all. Beggers and such Look, let's be real- this one of only a couple restaurants in all of Kings Canyon Park. And most of the others are closed half the year. Being that the selection of other places is incredibly limited, I was actually very happy with what I got here. The food is good. Solid quick serve items, made to order, and served fast enough. Our group bought a wide range of items and not one complaint or miss. Everything was good. I was happy with my burger. I've had worse burgers at fancier places. This place has changed quite dramatically over the past several years. The pictures from 10 years ago are not representative of how it looks or operates now. You order from a kiosk and then pick up your food from a window. You can eat inside or out. The menu is limited compared to a full restaurant, but there are still plenty of options. Sure, it's a little pricey but considering its the only game in town, I would have been willing to pay even more for some decent hot food I didn't need to make myself. I truly enjoyed my time eating at the Grant Grove Restaurant located in King's Canyon National Park....right on the border with Sequoia NP as well. I was actually spending 2 evenings here on the grounds of Grant Grove Village in a cozy little tent cabin. So for convenience....this Grant Grove Restaurant was ideally situated within a 5 minute walking distance from my cabin. Besides the fact that there were very few restaurants and dining options inside Sequoia and King's Canyon NP's....but after eating at Grant Grove Restaurant my 1st night here....I was satisfied enough to be excited to return for night 2....especially after running around and exploring the wonderful sights that Sequoia and King's Canyon Parks offered. For myself, most importantly what I appreciated about this place stopping in over the summer time.....I was able to come here, sit down, relax and enjoy a nice home cooked meal. During my visit....it was just a good, plain, simple ending to both my days. I didn't have to travel at all to find dining....I basically went back to my tent cabin, showered up and leisurely strolled over here. I highly appreciated the overall setting Grant Grove Restaurant had. It was quite similar to a rustic, mountain lodge vibe and feel. When I entered, I got seated right away with no waiting (surprising especially during dinner time in peak travel season). The restaurant was quiet and spacious, with clean carpeting, wooden tables and chairs...all set upon a comforting/homely ambiance. This place was pleasant. The menu consisted of interesting options.....enough for virtually anyone to pick out something. I'm not picky whatsoever so I was content with what choices were featured. The menu had....appetizers, soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches, grilled cheese, wraps, pizzas, and unique entrees like....salmon, lasagna, steak, skewers, chicken breast, rib-eye steak, pork milanese, roasted half chicken, and almond crusted trout. What actually caught my eye, and what I ordered on my 1st evening was the Grant Grove Special - Mary's Chicken Pot Pie - which included a small house field greens salad....all for $11.95. I thought....what a deal! Here's the good and the bad....the pot pie and salad were delicious....unfortunately the portion size was way too small. I wasn't satisfied afterwards. It was okay though. When I left, I walked over to the Grant Grove Market and picked up ice cream. When I returned the 2nd evening, I knew to order something heartier. Still, when I came again.....no wait, I sat right down, ordered quickly, no problems....the way I like it. The ambiance and setting won me over again. It was humbling to sit down for dinner...reflecting on my activities I accomplished during the day while taking it easy for the remainder of the night. This time I got a colorful salad I'd certainly recommend. The Summer Berry Salad - organic greens, strawberries, candied walnuts, feta cheese, and a tasty fig balsamic dressing all for $12.25. The salad was huge....and much more filling than the tiny pot pie I had the night before. To be cautious that I was receiving enough food, I added a basket of sourdough bread - for only $2.95 more. The bread was warm and crispy....a perfect compliment to my salad. It was certainly far more substantial that I actually carried the remainder of my salad in a to-go box. So yeah, the 2nd night I came here definitely was the better of my two visits. As I reflect on coming to Grant Grove Restaurant and eating dinner here, I have fond memories of how content I was. If anyone is staying on the grounds of Grant Grove Village or next door at John Muir Lodge, I think it'd be great to check this place out. If you're passing through Sequoia and King's Canyon also, this restaurant is also more than adequate. Finally, being nestled in the heart of two glorious national parks where choices for meals are limited, the all-American food and charming setting here at this Grant Grove Restaurant made for a winning dining option. read more

This was out first time camping, and so, we didn't really prep to have hotdogs and smores for dinner and so having a restaurant close to the campground is awesome! With that said.... For restaurant management (who is NOWHERE to be seen): 1) You are virtually stealing from us. Your prices are utterly outrageous. They are way higher even than airport prices. 2) You are providing almost no service whatsoever. Order through a machine (which only works intermittently). Get your food from someone who yells out a number, hands it off, and runs away before you find out it is wrong. 3) Food came out differently each lunch over three days - and each in the category of shortchanging the customer, leaving off important (to the customer) elements of the food. Example - for quesadillas: day 1) guacamole omitted. Day 2) extra sour cream bought/paid for omitted. Day 3 - half-servings of sour cream and salsa, provided together in the same container (that is, full serving, which is supposedly included, omitted)! And I've never in all my years seen a restaurant combine sour cream and salsa in the same little container! We pay to get into this park. We also support the park through our federal taxes. We are certainly happy to pay for the food too. But not at transparently exploitive prices, $#!+ service, and childlike attempts to further fleece the customer with "nickel and dime" shortcuts. Park attendees: You should do what WE will do in the future - Pack in your own food. Boycott the in-park food dispensaries. They are utterly undeserving of the term, "restaurants." If you DO eat there - let it be widely known that you CAN get free refills on soda - a fact they clearly don't want you to know. read more

We did not go into the restaurant and ordered via the take out window. QR codes are all over the place to order food but there is not phone reception at the park. Restaurant offers wifi but we found it extremely slow so we ordered using the one kiosk they had. We got there at a good time as the line was short but the line got extremely long extremely fast. We just ordered a sandwich and a wrap. The food was ready to be picked up pretty quickly, was good and at a decent portion as well. We sat outside and there was ample seating for a Monday at lunch time. It could imagine it being busier on a weekend. read more

Grant Grove gets 4 stars due to my family having eaten at the Peaks restaurant in Sequoia NP the previous day. Grant Grove is a step up from the Peaks. The dining room is smaller, but nicer and has a few outside tables. The menu and service is also a step up. There are a number of vegetarian options, a couple of vegan, and a full steak so there is something for everyone from carnivore to veggie. I had the quinoa burger which was pretty good despite being hard to keep together (typical of veggie burgers, esp. house-made). The veggie soup as a side was also good after a healthy dose of salt and pepper. For a drink, I was in need of a caffeine shot so I got their brewed coffee. It was surprisingly not weak/old despite it being 1:30 in the afternoon. Overall, would be my choice of the two restaurants within the SEKI national parks. read more

The reason why I am not giving the Grant Grove Restaurant a five-star review is because of the way the food is ordered. It is convoluted. Because, for the most part, we're not at the height of a pandemic anymore, the ONE kiosk that is used to input the food order is certainly time-consuming and slow for those who are confused by this ordering process. Most people take too long when they're in front of it -- when there's a paper copy of the menu posted nearby. This is not efficient. When there's a line of people waiting, it's even more annoying that there isn't a live person to alleviate the wait. Not good! So now that I complained about the way the food order is taken, maybe somebody will fix this problem quickly. Other than that, the food was delicious. The chicken sandwich which I ordered was flavorful. The pesto spread was very delicious. I ordered food online and by the time I walked to pick up the food it was ready. Ordered chicken sandwich, club sandwich, Grant burger, and kids Mac & cheese. Wasn't expecting anything but Burger and sandwiches were excellent which is why the 5 stars. Everything on those sandwiches and burgers went really well together. Big but gobbled it up. Mac & cheese is just what it is. Kid liked it though. As sides we got vege soup, pasta salad and chili. Sides were just ok. Mixed pasta salad with chili and it tasted better. Definitely will visit here again on next visit and order same thing and maybe try trout sandwich. read more

Full disclosure, we went on the 4th of July weekend so maybe that's why everything was... far from good. We were in a hurry so we thought this would be the quickest option but we were wrong. There are two outdoor machines where you order you food; you can not order inside or at the window. We ordered a cheeseburger with bacon and that was it; we thought a small order should be out in 15 - 20 minutes. It took 45 minutes, the Burgers were cold, and the bacon looked like my dog's bacon treats. Very disappointing. While we waited we also saw a woman complain about her fish that wasn't fully cooked. They refused to make her a new batch and said it would be 3-5 days for her money to be returned to her card. read more

It was difficult finding a place in the Sequoia National Park that served legit food so we were very thankful for this place. Before we found it we went to a lodge that only had overpriced frozen pizza. I ordered the wings from here and they were great! The burgers and salad were also good according to my family. They have a spacious outdoor eating area and the ordering and picking up is no contact which is nice. The bathrooms were also appreciated considering the majority of bathrooms in the park are outhouses. It was a nice location that I would definitely go to when I visit the park again! read more

Was met with a closed restaurant and a couple kiosks to order hardly edible fast food delivered from a window. What happened? It seems to be the case in both Sequoia and Kings Canyon parks. Good place for healthy lunch options in the National park. The soup is incredible and the burgers were good as well. It's a little pricey but understand since there aren't many options. Still well prepped and healthy and quick. read more
