How hard is it to make tomato soup that doesn't taste or look like paste . Beautiful space, food was decent, service was terrible. After a too-long wait, Christina approached and said "what can I get you". No greeting, no initial offer for beverages. During the rest of our visit, she was curt, border-line rude. Never offered other beverages, we had to ask for bread. Never refillled our glasses. We watched other guests have to ask for silverware, etc, etc. At the end, she said, "I'll be your cashier so you don't have to wait" - in other words, get out. Food was solid, if average. The menu is limited, the ingredients are of mediocre quality, the kitchen is unable to make substitutions or menu alterations for allergies, and it's got tourist prices. But it's the only place around, and it's food. The best part of the meal was generally the rice and vegetables, because they were doused in butter, but portion sizes are tiny and totally insufficient for someone coming down off a long hike. I was hungry after every meal, even with appetizers. The eggplant sandwich had literally two small slices of eggplant hidden between the buns. The milkshakes were OK. For breakfast, the eggs are sloppily cooked and the hashbrowns are a small, thin patch of hard potatoes fried into a crust, but the coffee is strong. Today, I had lunch at the Grant Grove Restaurant and was very disappointed. I was seated quickly in a half full dining room. I ordered the bacon cheese burger with a side salad. The hamburger meat was good, but the bun was rock hard, which was hard to cut with a knife and even harder to bite and chew. The portion size was too small for a $14 price with a very small wilted lettuce salad. I had to ask for refill on my drink, was never asked if my food was good and was given the overpriced check before I had eaten half of the burger. My money was taken and when I said keep the change, the waitress acted like a 20% tip for poor service was not enough. I was very disappointed. read more

After reading the Yelp reviews, our group of 12 was hesitant to dine at the Grant Grove Restaurant. However, being that our stay at the John Muir Lodge was for an entire weekend, we knew we'd have to grub there at least once. We made reservations for Saturday night and were immediately nervous that we'd arrive for our reservation and that the staff would be scurrying to put tables together while our 6 children's patience ran thin. We figured the food would be barely passable as edible and the service would be rude, we'd pay a several hundred dollar tab, and be on our way. When we arrived at 6:30 Saturday evening after a long day in the snow, our tables (we requested a kids table and an adult table) were awaiting us near a window at the back of the restaurant. It would be a nice view if it wasn't already dark. Water was immediately brought to our tables upon our arrival. Our server was attentive and helpful. We brought our own wine to have corked and he opened our bottles for us (however, didn't pour, which I found odd). We ordered right away so the kids wouldn't get squirmy. We ordered appetizers: the waffle garlic fries for adults (uh-may-zing!!!), regular fries for kids (just as standard as fries come; the kids gobbled them up), and the hoisin-barbecue wings (to die for!). Due to the terrible Yelp reviews, we wanted to make our large order easy for the small staff so we decided to just order several pizzas. We requested one of each kind: cheese (for the kiddos, never tried this one but they ate it!), pepperoni (for the veggie hating adults, heard it was great), the Namaste (spinach, artichoke, etc...this was so yummy with white sauce!), and the Buffalo Chicken pizza, which was everyone's favorite! As we ate we couldn't believe this was the same place that had such terrible reviews. We were so pleasantly surprised with the service and food at Grant Grove Restaurant and will definitely return during our next trip to the park. Honestly, our good experience made our trip because since we were happy, the kids were happy, and we were able to enjoy the rest of our evening playing games in the lodge because we had full bellies (and a little buzz). My whole family was very disappointed with this place and the service. We had to eat here twice on our trip this past week for lunch and both times they left things out of our orders. The waitress even backtalked when we told her she forgot something. Burgers are your best bet here but the pickles on them aren't real and are just weird soft cucumbers. Mac and cheese here is the WORST. No taste of cheese whatsoever and it's suppose to come with bacon which mine didn't and I had to ask them to heat it up because they served it cold. Pizza is horrible but ok for kids. Flatbread tasted off. Chicken wrap was decent at best. Quesadillas are good. It comes with sauce so just a warning if you're not into that beacause it's not listed on the menu. We ordered 2 chillis. One came with cheese sour cream and onion and the other didn't. It's not just slow service it's "we don't care because we don't have to" service. It's not that the wait staff is rude they are just all doing their own thg and completely disconnected. This is combined with food that is amazingly mediocre and just when you think it's going to be great your food is served raw or missing main ingredients like cheese in your omelet. Very nice food and very nice people who serve there. We went there on a Christmas weekend and the place was quite crowded. When it's crowded, it's better to book a table in advance. It's very close to the Grant tree and the place also has hotel rooms above it, so it's pretty good choice for people who stay there. read more

I was surprised at how kid friendly this restaurant was. One son got a cheese burger and the other got mac n cheese. Both were high quality. But better was the fresh fruit and kettle chips. I read the prior reviews and should have known better, but stopped here as it was a long way from anything else. Staff was friendly, but service was slow.... the tender filet was nothing more than a pre-cooked and warmed steak that had been sitting in a warming bin for a while. As much as this steak costs, I would have expected a better grade of meat than that which was served. They were out of the baked chicken.... out of the cobbler... do yourself a favor and drive the extra 8 miles to a better restaurant - or the canteen at lodgepole. Delaware North has a good reputation for food service, but they are doing the National Park Service a disservice with this restaurant. Do better. read more

I don't understand the negative reviews. No, this isn't a fine dining restaurant so don't come in with those expectation. Instead you will find tasty food, sure to hit the spot after a day in the beautiful outdoors, served with a smile. Andrew happily served my girlfriend and I dinner with a smile despite the fact that he was slammed with about 4 families as soon as the restaurant opened. He was the only server on the floor at opening, and still managed to be happy and efficient at serving all of us. The food was delicious and filling, great attitude from the staff, all at a decent price. Overall great experience! I had the 1/2 burger and my boyfriend originally ordered the turkey wrap. We both ordered a salad. His salad was ok. My salad was supposed to be Caesar but the dressing didn't taste like Caesar but more Italian. The burger was so dry. The meat tasted precooked and reheated. There was not enough garlic aioli. The turkey wrap was so dry that my boyfriend requested a new dish. He ordered the 1/4 lbs burger and had the same complaint as I about the meat. The service was ok. This was one of the worst dining experiences I have had in the US. Where to start? Terrible food, worse service, and the busboy was using a disgusting dirty rag to clean the table next to us. The burgers were dry and sour. The waitress was annoyed when we asked where the pickle spears were. Had to ask for condiments multiple times. Ended up just grabbing the water pitcher and filling our own glasses after asking multiple times. All the while multiple staff stood around doing nothing. Service wasn't spectacular - one waitress for the entire restaurant. Granted - we went off season but the restaurant was about 75% full. We weren't sure if we should wait to be seated or of it was a seat yourself. After a few minutes or waiting and no sign or indication, we grabbed menus and sat ourself. (A few groups after us did the same so I'm still not sure if we were supposed too....) My group got the burger and salmon cakes. Salmon cakes were small ($10 appetizer) but delicious. The corn remuloaude was fantastic!! Had a taste of the burger - was ok not great, but my table mate had taken the sautéed mushrooms off. (I ate them all- they were pretty tasty). Overall -pleasantly surprised with decent food but slightly pricey. However, what do you expect with limited options and having to drive food in!! Unfortunately the single waitress (not her fault) was definitely not enough staff at dinner. Other reviews make me believe that it is a common problem. read more

The menu looked appetizing, the pictures of the newly opened (6 days) dining facility looked nice so we decided to go up the hill for dinner. We ordered the brisket dinner and a hamburger. The collection of ingredients would have worked had the burger not been charred beyond well, well done. The brisket was placed over garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli. The veggies were fine, the potatoes instant and slightly lacking on the garlic part. The brisket may have been good at one time but was served dry and slightly over well done. The service was slow for the volume of patrons during our visit. Drinks were only refilled by request. After all this it was still an improvement over my last experience here a couple years back. read more

Dining choices are limited in the park - mainly fast food selections at Cedar Grove, Hume and Lodgepole. That said, this restaurant is greatly improved since the remodel of 2017. I had a ribeye, cooked exactly as ordered, served with herbed butter, vegetable medley and mashed potatoes, which were made from scratch. It was good, and actually better than I expected. My husband had the trout, and enjoyed every bite. They take reservations, so make them early, if you are able. We waited 30 minutes on standby, which was fine, as there is WiFi available on site, and a very nice seating area outside. We shared a warm apple cobbler for dessert (though I would describe it as more of a tartlet or pie), also good - crisp apples and a flaky crust. I only gave 4 stars because they were out of the first three beers I wanted to order. Our waitress suggested some others, which were good substitutes. My review is colored by the fact that, after two weeks of camping, I didn't have to lift a finger to cook, serve or clean a thing! Will definitely return on our annual visit to the park. read more

There is nothing exciting about the restaurant, but I didn't expect it to be some four-star dining establishment. Besides, it was our only choice since we didn't bring our own camp food :) Prices are inflated because they know they're the only sit down establishment for non campers to get some grub. I ate three meals here but breakfast was probably the best. It usually is, in my opinion... it's kind of hard to mess it up. Breakfast hours are 7 am - 10:30 am. There are daily specials, but I ordered off of the regular menu. Pancakes were okay, eggs were fine, but the toast could have used more time getting toasty, and the bacon was a thick cut. My friend's biscuit was apparently delicious. I didn't try it myself. Lunch hours are 11 am - 2 pm, and there are daily specials for the lunch hour as well. I had their special for the roast beef BBQ sandwich, which was quite tasty, and messy. I threw in some onion rings to make it decadent and was quite content. There was nothing special about it, and I wouldn't crave it again. Dinner hours are 5 pm - 9 pm. I ordered the grilled chicken with veggies. The sides were fine, but the chicken was a bit overcooked. It did have a good flavor, though. Beer and wine is available for purchase if you wish to get your drink on. The triple chocolate cake (hey, it was my birthday!) is quite rich and very fudgy. Everything a girl needs in a chocolate cake. I'm 99.9% it was store bought, but at least it wasn't Costco cake. This is going to sound silly, but I honestly think the best thing at the restaurant was the water - not from the bottle! I'm a city girl through and through, and I've had some horrible tasting tap water in my life. Even my friend commented on how good the water was... it tastes how you think water should taste! Not murky, muddy or chlorinated - just fresh and pure. Service was pretty good, though the best server we had was Angie, for our breakfast. She was very personable, attentive and quite efficient considering how many tables she was juggling. I was there in the off season, but I can see how it can easily back up during the busy season. There's probably only one or two cooks in the back cooking for the entire floor, and their tools are probably just as dated as the front of the house. read more

The best things are the trout almondine, the cobb salad with chicken (which is massive), and the grilled eggplant with onions. And, you're inside the park, so the prices and quality are about what you'd expect. However, it seems like this restaurant doesn't have a manager, as it is understaffed with waitresses that take a very long time to come around to your table and if you don't go early, you'll have to wait (and there's really not a good system to handle waiting people). read more

For years I have been to this Restaurant, many people have a very low review on this place. When I was young it was really good always full and wow the service very attentive and the service no complaints... as the years went by the food and the service started to decline but the prices kept going higher and higher. Oh well huh ? things changes , the food is ok, just got to get lucky who's serving you and the time you get there. There are dishes that are pretty good , you'll be the judge of that.
